He married and had children there who were probably supposed to be helping in that search perhaps, in some way. Onan's action showed he considered Joseph dead or irredeemable. I hope he did not have a hand in Joseph's perils in Egypt, because after that, we are told of Potiphar's wife's attempt to kill Joseph through a false accusation.


In essence, Onan was attempting to end his brother's, if not his father's line which perhaps he did not identify with.
