To be among the top 5% of web developers in Nigeria, one needs to be ready to read, read, and read. If a person is to specialize in PHP, then he/she must be ready to learn ZEND (google it) and even get certified in it. Nigerian website designers charge as little as 10,000 Naira for a job. When one checks the completed website, you realize that it isn't worth that much as a result of the poor design. No wonder other 'okay' designers cannot charge reasonably. The moment a person learns HTML and some PHP, he calls himself a web design/development professional. He/she doesn't care about important principles such as SEO, usability, color-choice, and others. The problem the website design/development sector of IT is facing is that people do not want to go the extra mile to learn stuff. The general idea now is that Nigeria doesn't have world-class designers and developers. Whether this is true or not, the fact still remains that we need to sit down and learn more so we can be comparable to designers/developers in other countries. Let us buy or download books that will make us better designers/developers. I believe that if we do this, with our passion for IT, there's no stopping us. |
A good website. I especially like the fact that it has content. Here are my suggestions: 1. I think the homepage is too stuffy. A good practice is to use a lot of white space in your designs. Let there be 'breathing' space. 2. The 'services' drop-down menu should be a link also. I mean the word 'services' itself. 3. The links at the left-hand-side should be moved upwards (home page). Generally, let it be easy to understand the 'flow' of the website. 4. for the ''forgot password' and 'Register' links in the log-in portion, Let there be a hover effect such as change-in-color or underlining to emphasize that they are click-able. 5. the rotating image should be a link to the home(index) page. Yah, that's about it. Good work, Good luck. |
