Politics / We’ll Ensure Massive Empowerment Of Girls, Women, Youth – Tinubu by ChelseaArmy(m): 7:58am On Apr 25
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Wednesday reiterated his
administration’s commitment to improving the lives of girls, women
and young people in the country.
Speaking at the unveiling of the United Nations Fund for Population
Activities’ (UNFPA) State of the World Population 2024 Report
Wednesday, the President stated the need to tackle the challenges
facing vulnerable demographics in the country.
He said his administration was committed to improving the living
standards of girls, women and young people’s lives by fulfilling
promises to speed up actions in Nigeria.
He said the aim is to prevent maternal deaths and ensure girls’
access to quality education and healthcare.
The president, who was represented by the Coordinating Minster of
Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, stated the importance
of girls’ education and avoiding early motherhood, quality healthcare
access, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices like
early/forced marriages and female genital mutilation.
He said with a focus on strengthening the four D Principles –
Development, Democracy, Demography and Diaspora – the
government aims to integrate modern solutions into policies and
programmes that benefit this demographic.
“The Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, launched in
December 2023, is a testament to the administration’s commitment
to the health and well-being of girls, women, and young people.
“This initiative aims to improve access to quality healthcare services,
including reproductive health and family planning, and address the
unique challenges facing this demographic.
“Meeting the aspirations of the population affected by these inter-
woven threads, who are mostly women, girls and young people,
places a great demand and a sense of duty on us all to keep that
hope alive. We must fulfil the promises to accelerate actions in
Nigeria and ensure no woman dies giving birth.
“We must ensure that girls stay in school instead of becoming
mothers at tender ages, provide access to quality health care and
services everywhere, including accelerated access to family planning as fundamental for managing our population.”

Politics / Tinubu Approves Routing Of 20% Palliatives Through Religious, traditionalleaders by ChelseaArmy(m): 7:43pm On Apr 24
President Bola Tinubu has approved a new initiative to
route 20% of palliatives, including food interventions,
through religious organisations and traditional institutions
in the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who announced this on
Tuesday while speaking at a high-level dialogue on nutrition
at the State House in Abuja, also unveiled an ambitious
plan to improve nutrition across Nigeria with a rallying call
to faith and traditional leaders to champion the effort in
their communities.
The one-day dialogue with the theme: “Faith leaders as
catalysts for enhanced human capital through nutrition,”
was organized by the National Council on Nutrition and the
World Bank-assisted Accelerating Nutrition Results in
Nigeria [ANRiN] Project.
Speaking about the approval given on the palliatives
distribution, Shettima said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
is conscious of his obligations to the Nigerian people. He’s
very much alive to the fact that the very essence of
government is to provide support services and security to
the lives of the citizenry”.
The vice president was responding to concerns raised by
the Imam of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) about the
exclusion of traditional and religious leaders from the
distribution of palliatives.
He said: “The President has approved that 20% of the
palliatives, in terms of food intervention, be routed through
our religious organisations and the traditional institutions.
The Tsangaya schools, the mission schools will be
specially targeted for such interventions.”
Shettima also announced that 20% of the funds released
for the School Feeding Programme will be channeled
through the office of the Minister of Budget and Economic
Planning to religious bodies.
According to him: “We have already commenced the
engagement, we are working out the modalities so that we
can have a hitch-free disbursement, a very transparent
disbursement, taking into cognizance all the tendencies in
our system”.
Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad
Abubakar III, and President of the Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN), the Most Rev. Daniel Okoh, pledged the
commitment of their communities and congregations to the
efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition in the country,
stating that their presence at the event underscored their
loyalty to the campaign.

Business / Chinese Chamber Of Commerce In Nigeria Breaks Silence On Abuja Supermarket by ChelseaArmy(m): 8:45am On Apr 23
The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria has reacted to the allegations that the Chinese supermarket within the premises of the Royal Choice Estate, Airport Road, Abuja, barred Nigerians from entering.

A video hit social media on Sunday revealing that the Chinese supermarket officials denied access to Nigerians seeking to purchase groceries, generating a public outrage.

Reacting to the incident, in an official statement on Monday, the Chamber explained that the Royal Choice Estate is not a supermarket as widely reported, but rather comprises an office complex and residential apartments.

The China Chamber of Commerce is one of several enterprises using the facility, and the supermarket in question is located in the residential area of the estate, which is unrelated to the China Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the residential area of the estate has privately occupied residents who comply with security protocols in granting access to external visitors.

It added that no individual was subjected to discrimination or denied access to the estate or supermarket to purchase groceries as widely believed.

However, the statement expressed regret over the altercation at the estate’s entrance gate between the security personnel and a customer, stressing that it does not reflect the official position of the estate management or the chamber of commerce.

The China General Chamber of Commerce emphasised its commitment to equality and inclusiveness and welcomed first-hand visits to witness the truth.

Our principles are to enhance friendship between the people of both countries and promote economic development,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the officials of the Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) have sealed off the supermarket.

The FCCPC officials invaded the premises, interrogated the Nigerians working at the supermarket, and shut it thereafter.

Nigerians have hailed the agency over the move, wondering why such controversy could arise on the country’s soil.

Politics / Reactions As FG Shuts Down Chinese Supermarket Discriminating Against Nigerians by ChelseaArmy(m): 8:33am On Apr 23
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection
Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off an Abuja-based
Chinese supermarket.
The supermarket is situated at the China General Chamber
of Commerce, along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road in the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Nigerians, particularly on X, had called out the
supermarket’s management over alleged discriminatory
policy against citizens of the country.
In a viral video, a security guard at the supermarket was
heard explaining that Nigerians were not allowed to shop at
the facility.
He said the policy was given by their employer to all the
employees from January 2024.
“Nigerians were stopped from entering this supermarket in
January,” the security guard said.
One of the unidentified Nigerians who were denied entrance
to the store said in the video that,
“We are not allowed to enter the Chinese supermarket. It is
not a joke. We have been trying to enter the place but we
heard that most of the workers there are Nigerians. If we
go in forcefully, they might lose their jobs.”
This discovery generated a lot of bad feelings among
Nigerians who described the supermarket’s policy as
discriminatory. They called on the government to intervene.
On Monday evening, officials of the FCCPC shut the
supermarket when they stormed the premises.
The development comes days after the commission closed
all branches of 4U Supermarket in Abuja following the
discovery of bags of rice filled with weevils.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on X have reacted to the closure of
the Chinese supermarket.
@Iykeibrahim said: “Am beginning to have some trust in
the Jagaban government.”
@Awelu9ce: “The place doesn’t even look like a
supermarket… What must be going on in there? May God
save us o”
@trevcap3lla982: “Racism inside our own country… This
speaks a lot about the Chinese people… It’s so pathetic.”
@uqochukwu: “The power of social media.”
@TindeTresh: “This is the best news today.”
@Oladapomikky1: “Imagine foreigners giving sons
daughters of the soil boundaries.”
@AdventurousAles: “I congratulate the FCCPC for this, it’s
insanity, when you don’t allow Nigerians into the restaurant
in our own land, c’mon! The height of discrimination must
end, you can do that in China not in our capital territory.”
@JustOneDebbie: “Oh wow, I mean. Normally, why would
you establish a company in a country and u banned the
citizens of the same country from entering the company.”
@SimpleTee: “This made me so happy, the only thing the
authorities have done this year that I’m proud of , them
suppose deport the owner of the supermarket too.”
@ndubisi_omeke: “That’s nice. Why would a foreign
restaurant established in Nigeria refuse to accept
Nigerians? Who does that!”
@EmmyIfeoluwa13: “I knew that this would happen. How
will u come into another persons country and restrict its
citizens from patronizing ur mall. That makes no sense.”
@ItzBarbieAlmie: “This is how it should be done !! They
can’t make us foreigners in our own country.”

Politics / Ministerial List: New Ministries May Be Created – Gbajabiamila by ChelseaArmy(m): 8:54am On Jul 28, 2023
The President Bola Tinubu administration may create
new ministries from the existing ones, Femi
Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the president, said on
Thursday in Abuja.
The ministerial list containing 28 nominees was
submitted to the National Assembly today by Mr
Gbajabiamila on behalf of the president and was
read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
‘’Mr President intends to separate portfolios or
restructure the ministries in such a way you might be
hearing of new ministries that were not standalone
ministries before. So the process continues.’’
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu [PHOTO: Presidency]
The 28 minister-nominees include Abubakar Momoh,
Yusuf Tuggar, Ahmed Dangiwa, Hannatu Musawa,
Uche Nnaji, Betta Edu, Doris Aniche Uzoka, David
Umahi, and Nyesom Wike.
Others are Badaru Abubakar, Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai,
Ekperipe Ekpo, Nkeiruka Onyejocha, Olubunmi Tunji
Ojo, Stella Okotette, Uju Kennedy Ohaneye, Bello
Goronyo, Dele Alake, and Lateef Fagbemi.
The rest include Muhammad Idris, Olawale Edun,
Waheed Adebayo Adelabu, Iman Suleiman Ibrahim,.
Ali Pate, Joseph Utsev, Abubakar Kyari, John Enoh,
and Sani Abubakar Danladi.
Mr Gbajabiamila said the nominees were chosen after
undergoing strict personal screening by the President.
Second batch of ministers coming
He said a second part comprising 13 names would be
sent to the assembly, adding that this was part of the
process of having a cabinet for the administration.
‘’As you know, he had 60 days from the time of
inauguration, as stipulated in the constitution. He has
fulfilled that requirement of the constitution by
submitting 28 names today.
‘’As his letter stated and was read on the floor of the
Senate, the remaining names, not sure how many,
probably about 12, maybe 13, will be forwarded to
the Senate in the coming days.
‘’As far as the nominees themselves are concerned,
and like I said, Mr President took his time to sift
through those names,’’ he said.
Absence of portfolios
The CoS said the president decided to toe the line of
tradition by not attaching the portfolio of the
nominees in the letter to the Senate to give room for
reviews.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has described one of the lawyers of Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as a counsel of the outlawed indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a tweet on Tuesday, the secret police accused Maxwell Okpara, Emefiele’s counsel of working for the outlawed group. Okpara and some lawyers had called for action against DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, over the detention of Emefiele. Politics / Tinubu Sympathises With Parents Of Ivan Omhonrina Killed By Stray Bullet by ChelseaArmy(m): 10:31pm On Jul 18, 2023
President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of two-year-old Ivan Omhonrina, killed by a stray bullet during an operation by officers of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

“I mourn the death of little Ivan Omhonrina and sympathise with his parents for the painful experience of losing an innocent child in a most tragic manner.

“Ivan did not deserve to die that way. We must ensure the incident did not end like that and that what happened to Ivan does not happen to any other person again.

“I also pray for the quick recovery of Eronmonsele, who was reportedly injured in that unfortunate event.

“That incident is unacceptable. We must unravel those who foisted agony on the Omhonrinas and ensure they are brought to justice,” President Tinubu said.

Meanwhile, the president has directed the NDLEA management to speedily and thoroughly investigate the incident with a view to punishing those found culpable.

The president charged security agents to be more professional and careful when conducting their operations to avoid risking the lives of innocent Nigerians.

Business / Transactions Suffer As Federal Govt Restricts Mdas’ Accounts by ChelseaArmy(m): 10:49pm On Jun 09, 2023
The federal government online financial transactions have been put on hold as Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government grapple with financial crisis following a presidential directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to place embargo on their accounts.
LEADERSHIP exclusively gathered that all the MDAs have been stifled of funds to conduct normal or regular transactions with their vendors. It was learnt that contractors and suppliers of the agencies have not been paid their fees from May ending to date.
Multiple sources in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, CBN and Office of the Accountant-general of the Federation confirmed the presidential embargo on the accounts of the MDAs to LEADERSHIP.
A director in the finance ministry who asked not to be named said the directive was given by the new administration to prevent civil servants, especially interim heads of the MDAs from engaging in sharp practices before substantive ministers are appointed. “It is a presidential directive that was given by the new government. The idea is to enable the president know what he met on ground and to be able to know where he is taking off from,” the director who should know said.
It was also learnt that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the directive to conduct background checks into the books of the various agencies for proper accountability.
A very reliable source at Centre for Management Development (CMD) told our correspondent that when some staff of the agency went to enquire from CBN on why their authorised payments have not been paid, “we were simply told no reason. We are not paying those kind of transactions for now,” he said

Sports / Ronaldo Struggling To Hire Private Chef For £17m For His Mansion In Portugal by ChelseaArmy(m): 9:22pm On Jan 19, 2023
Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez are struggling
to recruit a private chef for their £17 million mansion in Portugal
due to the couple’s exorbitant demands, MailOnline has reported.
Ronaldo is currently building a lavish mansion in Quinta da Marinha,
Portugal. The construction of the mansion, which is being dubbed
his retirement sanctuary, is set to be completed in June 2023.
It has been reported that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is
spending an eye-popping £17 million to build the perfect home for
his family. However, despite the huge budget, things have not been
flowing as smoothly as anticipated.

According to MailOnline, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have found it
difficult to hire the perfect chef. It has been reported that Ronaldo
is offering £4,500 per month for the job, but there have been no
takers as of yet.
Reports in Portugal have claimed that the hunt has been dragging
on due to Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez’s demands. The couple
is looking for a chef who is not only adept in preparing traditional
Portuguese dishes but can also expertly prepare international
cuisines, such as sushi. It has been reported that Ronaldo’s under-
construction mansion will have a designated area to prepare
Japanese dishes.
Given their particular requirements, it will not be easy for a chef to
cater to their needs. It will be interesting to see how long Ronaldo
and Georgina have to wait to get their dream cook.
