Naija must move forward THE 81 CMPAIGN PROMISES OF PMB: HEALTH SECTOR AS A CASE STUDY A critical look at the APC campaign promises OF PMB shows that 13.6% of these (3, 27, 50-56, 70 and 73) directly affects the health of Nigerians, which is to say the least, OK. By the way these promises are configured, and if put to reality, Nigeria will be a global power to beat as far as medical care is concerned, and I think PMB has a plan! Among all these promises, those that have direct effect on health could be categorized into three groups: Enhancement on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) MDG Number 4: To reduce child mortality (50, 70) MDG number 5: To improve maternal health (51, 70) MDG Number 6: To combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases (52) MDG Number 7: To ensure environmental sustainability (27, 73) Curbing medical tourism Ban on all government officials from seeking medical care abroad (3) Increasing the number of physicians from 19 per 1000 population to 50 per 1000 (54) Increasing national health expenditure per person per annum to about 50,000 (from less than 10,000 currently) (55) Increasing the quality of all federal government-owned hospitals to world class standard within five years (56) Improving life expectancy of Nigerians Improving life expectancy by additional 10 years on average (53) ENHANCEMENT ON MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDGS) 50: The APC promised to prioritize the reduction of infant mortality rate to 3% by 2019 This promise of the APC is in tandem with MDG number 4, which is: To reduce child mortality by 2/3 (66%) between 1999 and 2015. Infant mortality rate is the number of children dying before they reach one year of age, per 1000 live births in a given year. According to WHO report 2014, the infant mortality in Nigeria was 120 per 1000 live births in 1990 which has reduced over the years to 89/1000 in 2010, 79/1000 in 2011, 77/ 1000 and 74/1000 live births in 2012 and 2013/2014 respectively. This implies a reduction by 38.3% between 1990 and 2014. By this figure it implies that just a little above 50% of this MDG goal has so far been achieved. I want to believe that APC understood the implications of these promises or may be, they (the promises) were just made to win our votes and now campaigns are over it is time to get to work. By this promise of prioritizing the reduction of infant mortality to 3% (not by 3%) by 2019, it means that all efforts must be on top gear to prioritize this reduction from the current 74/1000 live births to approximately 2 per 1000 live births…. Hmmm!!… I don’t believe in impossibilities, yes! Nigeria can become a world power in health; but things must be done the right way. To achieve this, the PMB-led government must tackle the leading causes of infant mortality head-on which include but not limited to: malaria, diarrhoea, birth asphyxia, pneumonia, preterm (premature) birth complications, measles and malnutrition. Other contributing factors include: mother’s level of education, environmental conditions, and political and medical infrastructure. Improving sanitation and access to clean (potable) drinking water, immunization against child killer infectious diseases (such as tuberculosis, polio, hepatitis, pertusis, etc) will go a long way in improving on the infant mortality rate. Between 2000 and 2008 the national immunization coverage was between 10% and 50%. Some of the challenges attributed to this included: poor funding of the PHC system, low political will and commitment, poor Cold Chain system, shortage of vaccines, weak surveillance systems, missed opportunities, under-served and hard-to-reach communities and refusal to accept immunization. To improve immunization coverage in Nigeria, the government of PMB should as a matter of priority do the following: Provide adequate funding for the PHC system Strengthen the Cold Chain system by Providing transport logistics Provision of Solar refrigerators Disease surveillance Building institutional capacity Effective social and community mobilization Advocacy to political, traditional and religious leaders for ownership Bearing in mind other contributors of infant mortality in Nigeria, if PMB-led government can put action to her words with respect to promises number 8, 15, 17, 30, 48, and 81, a huge improvement would have been made by the time 2019 will come beckoning. All hands must be on deck. I wish him luck! ……………..to be continued! |

l b bak Sorry OP, Anal fissure simply means having a tear in the anal canal Anal fissure can be very paiful... l can understand how you feel It could be caused by passing large stool, conatipation (as you have), diarrheoa, even child birth or medical conditions like crohn's dosease...it can be a terrible experience Putting your finger in the an*s may increase the tear and worsen the pain for you. it can be treated at home or in the hospital depending on the acute nature. You can do the following at home to see if it canhelp: 1.. take plenty of water 2..take plenty of fruits and vegetables or vegetable supplements 3..do this.. get warm water in a wash hand basin and add plenty plenty of salt to it...add until the salt no longer dissolves...then remove your undies and sit inside the warm water (not HOT water oo) for about 20-30 minutes about three times daily..this is called sitz bath 4.. You can take stool softeners like anusol/dulcolax as some suggested 5..Never avoid going to toilet just because of the pain rather take your time to do it dont force it..if you avoid toilet it will worsenn the cobstipation and the cycle continues |

Hi newly registered on board....hoping to have the best of it all |
abiola708:Hi abiola708 ..U want to know id a HbSC client can go for scuba diving.... first of all scuba diving is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a self-contained breathing apparatus known as scuba to breathe underwater HbSC are also at risk of crises just like those with HbSS (sicklers) but unlike HbSS HbSC has less attacks and the same factors can precipitate the attack such as infections (e.g malaria), extremes of temperatures, STRESS, low oxygen tension, high presures etc.. Scuba diving is associated with exposures to very high presures under water and this is a form of stress on its own and capable of trigerring crisis... the injuries apart from just ordinary crises can be as dangerous as rupturing tge lungs. these injuries are known as barotraumas i.e trauma due to excessive pressure scuba divers arw also prone to a condition known as nitrogen narcosis i.e excess nitrogen in the blood and low oxygen releading to transient hallucination and alcohol-like disorientation while in depth below 20m.. but this reversed during ascent as the diver may not have even noticed what had happend. So my advise is if you are HvSC you can avoid scuba diving more so because a study done in Japn in 2000 showed that evry hour of diving is 36-62 times riskier than automobile driving..... or engage on them less frequently being mindful of your depth under water... Infoparlour:

OP thanks for this attempts at educating us on "toilet disaese/infection" ...but l have exceptions to some of the points you raised and would therefore want to make the following clarifications.....just be patient with me Firat of all there is nothing like "toilet disease or infection" it is a complete misnomer. However when people start having discharge from their private parts they term it "tiopet infection/disease). Vaginal discharge may be normal or abnormal depending on wether it has offensive odour or not, depending ob wether the woman is pregnant or not and depending on the time in her menstrual cycle normal discharge are like water and are not smelly seen during the ovulation period and during pregnancy but offensive discharges and thick or bloody discharges are not normal and could be due to infection...bacteria, fungal, viral or protozoal infections or even due to cancer of any of the female private parts You mentioned that women are more prone to toilet infection than men because they sit on the toioet seats.... the premise is true but the asertion is not because men also sit on them. the reason is because of the nature (anatomy) of the female private parts ..they have more surface area for the germs to "play" and multiply and then cause trouble for our ladies You also mentioned it is faeco-oral and the the use of the saliva to wipe the toilet seats. this is very very unhygeinic and should not be encouraged. Yes the saliva ontains some enzymes like ptyalin etc that.help in digesti.g food but this shoould not be likened to digesting bacteria otherwise typhoid fever will have no room in our body sincee the transmission is also faeco-oral VAGINAL LOTION AND ANTIBIOTICS CREAMS: Please this should not be.encouraged as posited by the Op. this will only cause more trouble for thise using them. The vag*na is naturally an acidic environment (not that acid that burns oo) and the germs including bacteria and fungi live there happily without causing any wahala.. when lotions are used (including soap, anticeptics, soda etc) they neutralise the environment resulting to a state of chaos and this leads to itching, rashes and abnormal vaginal discharge. Antibiotics abuse on the other hand will lead to killing of the normal bacteria giving room for dangerous ones to thrive and cause trouble...Pleasw avoid this for your own good. if you have any abnormal vaginal discharge please see a gynaecologist it could be an infection or cancer (especially if you are in your peri .or menopausal years) . Thanks and Op more power to your elbow and more ink to your pen....good job |
adamshuaib:SC exists... it is a variant of sickle cell disease just like sickle cell anaemia (SS) anx thalasaemias... people with SC are less prone to crises unlike SS genotype OP if your mum is AA dad AS they can only produce AA and AS in equall proportions (50%) and not SC (you). this can only happen if your dad were to be AC which is the most likely scenerio considering that fact that many labs cannot be trusted with such technical interpretation....my advice is go to a teaching hospital with your parents and end it there.....best of luck bro |
OP if your dad is AC and your mum AA they can only give birth to children with a 50% chance of being either AA or AC from the scientific point of view. From the medical point of view it is yet to be documented where such genetic combination as your parents will give rise to SC..... however NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN MEDICINE... this is because there are a lot of questions medicine has not been able to answer. Haven said tbis, l will suggest you go to a TEACHING HOSPITAL , see a doctor there with hour parents and repeat the tests... this will be the tie breaker.... if it turns out to be the same dont even mention it again in your life so that you and your family will live long because trying to find out will just end up giving you CARDIAC ARREST! Thus is my submission...best of luck... first day on Nairalandddddd!!!!!! |
