Don’t blame Buhari for security crisis –Ado-Doguwa Kindly share this story: The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), should not be blamed for the security crisis in Nigeria, stating that security is the responsibility of the government and the people. Ado-Doguwa, in a statement issued on Sunday, was quoted to have said this when the Kano State Government honoured some persons from the state who have been appointed to various positions in the Federal Government. In the statement titled ‘Kano State Government Honours Ado-Doguwa, ministers, others,’ the lawmaker, who is representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano at the House, pointed out that it is the responsibility of all Nigerians to join the government in the effort to address the security issues in the country. The Majority Leader said, “The security situation that we face in our country today should be a collective responsibility. There is no issue of blames trading – trading of blames. It is not Buhari. It is our own country. We have every entitlement to claim the indigeneship of this country and we are proud Nigerians. Only if everyone can bring their hands on deck; and until everyone will be on the same page with the security apparatus and architecture of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, then we will continue to have problems. “It is on this note that I want to say that the Federal Government under Muhammadu Buhari has, of course, been doing the best it could in terms of security the lives and property of the people. The budgets we attend to at every point in time, nobody there gets close to the appropriation of our security institutions. We call those areas no-go areas – don’t touch them. We have given sufficient funding to all security agencies. Mr President is always concerned, holding meetings, giving directives, giving instructions left right and centre, all in the effort and commitment to keeping our homes safe to sleep in. “So, we can only get it right if our governors will continue the kind of good things and unprecedented security initiatives like that of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State. The Ulamas are doing their best. The traditional institutions, I agree with you; you are also doing your best in your own direction. But I want to say that the business of security is everybody’s business. If the security of this country fails as a state, it is the collective failure of every one of us, including the citizenry. They have a role to play. I do not mean that the citizenry will just go out, pick guns and fight the bandits in the forests. You have something to offer – praying for the country, praying for the leaders, praying for Mr President.” As part of his constituency projects, Ado-Doguwa had distributed about 12 Toyota Hilux to Doguwa and Tudun Wada Police Divisions as well as the military base at Falgore Game Reserve, Kano Police Command, 3 Brigade Kano and Karota, among others. According to the statement, the Kano State Citizens’ Forum, a non-partisan organisation, also honoured Ado-Doguwa with the award of Best Federal Legislator in the area of security support to the state’s security agencies. Other personalities that were honoured, according to the statement, include the immediate Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Mamman; and the immediate past Commander 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano, Brigadier General Sinyinah Nicodemus. At the event were the new Minster of State for Works, Hon Umar El-Yakub; and Hon. Nasiru Baballe Illa as new Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Reps), the statement said.

Okunbo ‘returns back to life’ at memorial lecture The late billionaire businessman, Hosa Okunbo, was literally brought back to life at a lecture held in his memory at the Wells Carlton Hotels and Apartment, Asokoro, Abuja. The event was attended by several top personalities, including a former President, Goodluck Jonathan, and his wife, Patience; the Olu of Warri and son-in-law to the late Okunbo; Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Olori Ivie; a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomole; as well as a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili. Jonathan, who was the keynote speaker at the lecture, spoke on the ‘Lasting Legacy: The key to Nigeria’s Development Issues’. He advised that citizens should not give up despite the many challenges the country was facing. According to him, they should rather seize the opportunity provided by the current political dynamics to take decisions that would renew hope, and rebuild the country. He noted that the essence of leadership was to drive initiatives that build sustainable societies and make the lives of the people better. He added, “Every political leader should, in a moment of introspection, spare a thought for the legacy they would leave behind. “Captain (Okunbo) lived a life of philanthropy. Although he achieved so much as a businessman and invested in big enterprises, he will perhaps be remembered more for his large heart, a spirit of philanthropy, and love for the underprivileged.” Many of the attendees also spoke about how the late pilot touched their lives in different ways, evoking memories of him at the event. Also featured on the discussion panel were the co-founder of Sahara Group, Tonye Cole; Slum to School initiator, Otta Orondaam; and President of Benson Idahosa University, Bishop Feb Idahosa, while it was anchored by a founder and Managing Partner of Message Capital, Adesuwa Okunbo-Rhodes.

BREAKING: Usyk beats Joshua, retains heavyweight titles Ukrainian Aleksander Usyk on Sunday defeated British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, by a split decision to win the heavyweight title rematch. Usyk lands more solid jabs on Joshua in the final round and the former champion tries to counter with punches of his own. Usyk retained the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles on a split decision. The first judge had 115-113 in favour of Joshua while the second 115-113 to Usyk and the third 116-112 to Usyk. Usyk, 35, had last year defeated the defending champion in London. The Ukrainian victory may set up a potential unification bout with Britain’s Tyson Fury. Addressing the crowd after the fight, Joshua said he had an elite prospect from youth. “If you knew my story you would understand the passion. I ain’t no amateur boxer from five years old that was an elite prospect from youth. I was going to jail, I got bail and I started training my arse off, I wanted to be able to fight. “I’m stealing this Usyk I’m sorry, but it’s because of the passion we put into this. This guy to beat me tonight, maybe I could have done better, but it shows the level of hard work I put in so please give him a round of applause as our heavyweight champion of the world.” He added, “I’m not a 12-round fighter, look at me, I’m a new breed of heavyweights, Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston, Jack Dempsey, ‘you don’t throw combinations like Rocky Marciano’, I’m 18 stone, I’m heavy, it’s hard work. This guy here is a phenomenal talent, we’re going to cheer for him three times.”

Why we suspended strike – SSANU president The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Muhammed Ibrahim, on Saturday, disclosed that the union decided to suspend its strike to give the government a window of opportunity to fulfill its promises. The PUNCH reports that SSANU and its sister union, Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions, announced a suspension of the ongoing strike. Our correspondent also gathered that the decision was taken at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, at the minister’s office in Abuja. It was gathered that the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, was also in attendance. Speaking to our correspondent in Abuja, Ibrahim said, “We suspended the strike for a period of two months. This is to give the government a window of opportunity to meet all the demands. After the two months we will meet again and have a review.” The unions embarked on a strike in March 2022 shortly after the commencement of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The unions had called for the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement; payment of earned allowances; end to usurpation of non-academic career positions by Vice Chancellors; inclusion of university staff schools into the university community; non-payment of minimum wage arrears and deployment of the Universities Peculiar Personnel Payroll System for payment of salaries and allowances.

Obi group hails Ozigbo, woos other politicians The Peter Obi Support Network has hailed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, for joining “Obidient Movement”, describing the development as long overdue. In a statement on Saturday, Director of Strategic Communication of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Onwuasoanya Jones, said Ozigbo’s formal endorsement of the Peter Obi’s candidacy showed that he was a progressive patriot with passion for a better and working Nigeria. Jones said the group was not surprised by the move. He urged other patriots to take a cue from Ozigbo and join the “Obidient” campaign in order to steer the country away from imminent disaster. The statement read, “He is a patriotic Nigerian who is passionate about building a working, progressive and a united nation, and it is not in any way a surprise that he has made his declaration to join the most popular and most promising people’s movement in the history of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic politics. “We have always known that his heart has been with this movement and we welcome him with joy and assure him of our absolute cooperation in ensuring that this movement is piloted to success for the benefit of all Nigerians. “This is not the time to sit on the fence, this is a time for every true Nigerian and lover of progress to take a stand with the people and participate actively in salvaging the fate of our dear nation. “Like Chief Valentine Ozigbo, many other Nigerian patriots have put Nigeria’s interest above their personal political and pecuniary interests, by aligning with the best presidential candidate in this election, and it is our hope as an organisation that more political leaders and statesmen will break off the shackles of partisanship and join in the mission to save our nation.”

visijo:The dead has no share in this Earth, they can't help us, they can't do nothing, that's just the handwork of Satan to prove God a lair .... Ecclesiastes 9:5-10 5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun. 7 Go, eat your food with rejoicing, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for already the true God has found pleasure in your works. 8 May your clothing always be white, and do not fail to put oil on your head. 9 Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of your futile life, which He has given you under the sun, all the days of your futility, for that is your lot in life and in your hard work at which you toil under the sun. 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.. |
