A large explosion rocked a bus station Wednesday in a north Nigeria area previously targeted by Boko Haram, witnesses said, in what appeared to be the latest crack in the government’s purported ceasefire with the Islamists. “We had a huge blast at exactly 9:45 pm (2045 GMT)… We realised it had come from the bus station,” said Musa Babale, a resident of the town of Azare in Bauchi state where the blast occurred. “The whole place was a mess,” he said. The police and military did not answer calls seeking comment but another resident of the affected area near the Kano road said the security forces had surrounded the site. “We found the place cordoned off by soldiers and police,” said witness Mauzu Ibrahim. “From where I stood I saw bodies being put in a van.” Other witnesses also reported seeing casualties but it was not immediately possible to estimate the number and emergency workers were not available to comment. While the cause of the blast remained unclear, Bauchi has been one of the hardest hit areas in Boko Haram’s five-year uprising against the Nigerian state. The insurgents also claimed twin car bombings at a bus station on the outskirts of the capital Abuja earlier this year. Any indication that the explosion was tied to Boko Haram will further undermine the government’s claim to have negotiated a ceasefire with the extremist group. The surprise deal was announced by the presidency and military on Friday but there are already strong signs that the pact was hollow. Violence raged through the weekend in the embattled northeast and the credibility of the so-called Boko Haram negotiator has been widely questioned. Bauchi borders Nigeria’s northeastern region which has been under a state of emergency since May of last year because of the unrest. Azare is roughly 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the state capital Bauchi city. Source: www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/blast-rocks-bus-station-bauchi/#sthash.6xLiz5ES.dpuf

THE Police in Bauchi State, on Monday, disclosed that they arrested a 20-year-old man in Ningi, the headquarters of Ningi Local Government Area of the state for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 16-month-old baby. The arrest, according to a statement made available to journalists by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, was made on Sunday. According to him, the suspected rapist, one, Anna’s Adamu was nabbed by police detectives from the Ningi Area Command at about 6.00 a.m. “On Sunday, October 19, at about 6.00 a.m., police detectives attached to Ningi Area Command arrested one, Annas Adamu, male and 20-year-old of Stadium road, Ningi Local Government Area. “The suspect had unlawful carnal knowledge of his neighbour’s daughter, a 16-month-old baby, inside his matrimonial bedroom,” the PPRO said in the statement. He added that the scene of the crime was visited by the detectives, who rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Ningi, for medical examination, where penetration was confirmed. He, however, said that the police were investigating the matter. In another development, the PPRO informed that about 10 suspected ritualists, wielding offensive weapons, last Saturday stormed the house of one Yakubu Ubandoma, located on his farm about 10 kilometres away from Rimin Zayan village in Toro Local Government Area and stabbed him on the neck. The suspected ritualists, according to the police spokesman, also amputated Ubandoma’s arms and plucked out the eyes of his 20-year-old son, Ishaya Yakubu, who later died while on admission. “One Yakubu Alhamdu, male, 14-year-old also sustained a machete cut on his head,” DSP Mohammed added. He stated that the scene of the crime was visited by police detectives from Toro division and rushed the victims to the Toro General Hospital for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary for post-mortem examination. The PPRO, however, assured that the police were intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, in reaction to his sack on Wednesday night by the newly elected Nigeria Football Federation’s board, has said it is time for him to move on. Keshi seemed to be in good spirits while speaking with PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday morning, shortly after his dismissal. “It is about time for me to move on, my dear. This is not the end of the world for me,” he said. During Nigeria’s Wednesday encounter with Sudan in Brazil, a match which ended 3-1 in favour of the Super Eagles, Nigerian fans at the packed stadium started chanting as Keshi stepped onto the pitch: “You must go.” The coach, who took the Super Eagles job four years ago, won the 2013 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, in South Africa and led the team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2014 Confederations Cup, both in Brazil. However, he has been struggling to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 Afcon, and has so far recorded a home and away defeat in Calabar and South Africa respectively. Following the 2013 Afcon, Keshi failed to stick with the winning team of players and has been inconsistent in his choice of players for other competitions. He was criticised for the calibre of players he selected to play at the World Cup, a run that ended at the round of 16. Meanwhile, in spite of the sack, he and his former assistants, Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorounmu, are expected to proceed for a coaching course, fully funded by the NFF in any country of their choice. Thank God he's been sacked!!! As it stands now, Amodu isn't better than Keshi but he can deliver the maroc 2015 ticket for us. During his past reign, he qualified us for two World cups and got sacked. So Having Amodu as a coach on an Interim level ahead of the Arrogant and Clueless Keshi is good for me. |
Good for Musa...wishing him many happy returns Meanwhile Keshi should be the happiest man on planet earth! NFF for sack am wella! |
If you had a chance to talk to President Goodluck Jonathan, what would you say to him? Which questions would you like President Jonathan to answer, and why?
|
I won't even bother watching this game... If they like make dem loose... Once Oga Keshi aka Wenger is still in charge, my confidence on the team is on a Zero level. The match at Sudan was officially my last time of watching any game of the Super Eagles (Under Keshi) Abeg, Am too young to die of High BP! #CFC All the Way!!!! |
