US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence. Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. Continue... According to AFP, President Obama suggested that affected African countries should focus more on building strong public infrastructures. "I think we have to let the scientist guide us. And I don’t think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful". On whether he would help fast track the approval of the drug should medical experts conclude that the drug is effective, President Obama said; "I think it’s premature for me to say that because I don’t have enough information. I don’t have enough data right now to offer an opinion on that.” While stressing that the deadly virus is not airborne, Obama said "the countries affected are the first to admit that what’s happened here is the public health systems have been overwhelmed. They weren’t able to identify and then isolate cases quickly enough. As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred previously." He said the US is currently working with their European partners as well as the World Health Organization to provide resources to contain the virus. Ebola is becoming a global issue...Lagos is officially a NO GO AREA!!! |
A Saudi man who was being treated for Ebola- like symptoms has died at a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's health ministry says. If confirmed, this would be the first Ebola-related death outside Africa in an outbreak that has killed more than 900 people this year. The man recently visited Sierra Leone, one of four countries in the outbreak. World Health Organization (WHO) experts are meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss a response to the outbreak. The two-day meeting will decide whether to declare a global health emergency. Ebola, a viral haemorrhagic fever, is one of the deadliest diseases known to humans, with a fatality rate of up to 90%. A WHO statement on Wednesday said 932 patients had died of the disease in West Africa so far, with most of the latest fatalities reported in Liberia. Concern has also been growing over a number of new cases in Nigeria, the region's most populous nation. On Wednesday, a nurse who treated an Ebola patient became the second person to die of the disease there. Nigeria's Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu described the outbreak as a national emergency, adding that "everyone in the world is at risk" because of air travel. The Saudi man who was suspected of contracting the disease died of cardiac arrest, according to the website of the country's health ministry. The 40-year-old is said to have returned from a recent business trip to Sierra Leone. The ministry's website said he was being tested for Ebola, but did not say if the tests had concluded that he had the disease. The website said the man had been treated in an isolation ward and would be buried according to Islamic tradition, while following precautions set out by world health authorities. Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia stopped issuing visas to Muslims from several West African countries, amid concerns that visiting pilgrims could spread the disease. Please help raise this alarmThe Lagos State Government has decided to bring Ebola confirmed cases to a surgical ward in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja. Ebola, a viral disease known to be violent in symptoms and spread which should under normal circumstances be quarantined in a place far away from the residential area is to be brought to Lasuth also known as Ikeja General Hospital today 4/8/2014. The Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) which is meant for isolation and barrier-nursing of highly contagious diseases is left there and these infected patients are being brought to Lasuth today just because some of them are VIPs. Meanwhile, the state Govt has been feeding us with lies that none has been confirmed while quite a number of the isolated cases have manifested these grave symptoms. As at 12midnite, artisans were seeing still working on that particular ward which is at a very close proximity to other surgical and medical wards and which is directly beside the Critical care unit.Lives are at stake because despite the strike action of the Nigerian Medical Association, some patients like me are still in the hospital and relatives, other patients, caregivers and whosoever they come in contact with will be at high risk.People of Lagos State, pls let us pass this on until it gets to the people who can change this decision because this is very serious as every life in Lagos state is at risk. |

Some yet-to-be identified gunmen have abducted 86-year-old Benson Adigio-Eseni, an uncle of former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva. The abduction of the octogenarian was said to have further heightened the challenges of insecurity in the state. It was learnt that Adigio-Eseni was abducted at about 2am on Sunday from his residence in Okpoama in the Brass Local Government Area of the state. His abduction came barely about 10 days after two persons, Bukuromo Odidikuma and Awotimigha Iyabi, an aide to Sylva’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Nathan Egba, were killed by gunmen suspected to be sea pirates operating on the Nembe-Brass River. In that incident, a contender for the state House of Assembly in the 2015 general elections, Alfred Belemote, a mobile police escort and the driver of the boat in which they were travelling, were also shot, but survived with bullet wounds. Sources said Adigio-Eseni’s assailants, who operated in a speed boat, shot sporadically into the air before dragging him away into the creeks. A relation of the victim, Austin Adigio, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday. “It’s true, he (Adigio-Eseni) was kidnapped this morning about 2am,” he said. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Alex Akhigbe, however, claimed the police had yet to receive signals on the kidnap of Adigio-Eseni. source:http://primechronicle.com/?p=9430 |
Everyday...a new story on BH Boys! God help us!!! |
Suspected members of Boko Haram have carried out an attack on Garkida, a village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing four soldiers, three civilians and left many people injured. The Punch learnt that the insurgents stormed the town in their numbers around 6.30pm on Sunday night firing sporadically and razed down a police station, an Army camp as well as several houses. It was further gathered that residents of the area ran to take refuge in nearby mountains when it became obvious that they had no response to the firepower of the invaders. In an interview with our correspondent, a resident of the area, Dauda Bukar, said, “Around 6.30pm, we heard gun shots from different directions and we fled to the mountains and remained there until around 12am when they left the town. Actually, some of us spent the night on the mountains.” Read more>>>http://primechronicle.com/?p=9425 |
Fresh fact emerged on Monday that the senate leadership may not provide any platform for the consideration of the investigation conducted by its Committee on Interior over the ill-fated recruitment into the Nigerian Immigration Service, on March 15, this year. Our correspondent noted that the report, which was submitted by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, over two months ago, was not listed for consideration until the red chamber proceeded on its annual recess, which will end in September. The development, according to further investigations, is currently fueling suspicion and fears among the general public that the report may eventually be thrown into the dust bin. It will be recalled that the Senate had on March 18, this year, directed its Committee on Interior, to carry out a comprehensive probe into the circumstances that led to the recruitment tragedy which claimed 18 lives of job seekers at various recruitment centres and left several others injured. The report of the Bagudu-led committee was submitted to the Senate some weeks behind schedule in May. Further investigations carried out by our correspondent on the cause of the delay in the consideration of the report revealed that the report might not be considered at all because it was a verbatim report without the executive summary which should have contained recommendations. It was also gathered that the committee allegedly took into consideration, the fact that the Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, who spearheaded the tragic exercise, is believed to be the political godson of the Senate President, David Mark. Despite the assurance by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, two weeks ago that all outstanding reports before the upper chamber would be considered before the expiration of the Seventh Senate, some of his colleagues doubted the possibility of his claim. A senator, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, argued that the report might not be considered by the Senate in September, because of the alleged closeness of the minister to the Senate President. The senator maintained that such report would not be considered because it was likely to have implicated Moro based on the media report on the public hearing conducted by the committee that indicted the minister. He said, “The Senate President who many believed influenced the appointment of Abba Moro as a minister in 2011, cannot do anything to hurt his political godson. Nothing can come out of the report because the minister involved is widely known to be like a political son to the Senate President apart from the fact that the duo are from the same ethnic group in Benue State.” The senator added that based on information at his disposal, some of the committee members did not see the report before it was submitted to the Senate. A member of the committee, who also pleaded anonymity, corroborated the claim of the senator. However, the Chairman of the Committee, Bagudu, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday, said no member of the committee could claim that he didn’t see the report before it was submitted to the Senate. He said, “As far as I am concerned, every member of the committee made inputs into the report at the compilation stage as regards findings made about the recruitment tragedy and even contributed to the recommendations arrived at, at the end of the day.” He added that since his committee had done its job, it was left for the appropriate committee to present it on the floor of the Senate for consideration and approval. It will be recalled that the immigration recruitment tragedy of March this year occurred when the Ministry of Interior attempted to recruit about 5,000 young Nigerians into the NIS. The Comptroller General of the NIS, David Paradang, had told the committee members during the public hearing that Moro did not carry him along in the ill- fated exercise. http://www.punchng.com/news/senate-dumps-nis- tragedy-probe-report/ |

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes signing Luke Shaw this summer would have "killed" the club's financial stability and led to problems in the dressing room. Shaw signed for United at the end of last month, joining the Red Devils from Southampton in a £30million deal after agreeing a four-year contract. The move saw the 19-year-old become the fourth most expensive defender ever, and Mourinho believes the wages United have offered to the teenager - believed to be well in excess of £100,000 a week - would have angered other squad members at Stamford Bridge if the Blues had offered a similar package. "To pay a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, for Luke Shaw, we are dead," he told reporters "We would have killed our stability with financial fair play, and killed the stability in our dressing room. "Because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid - a good player, fantastic player - but when you pay that amount of money, the next day we would have had players knocking on our door. "They would have been saying 'How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?' "It would have killed immediately our balance, and we couldn't allow that." Mourinho has in recent days swooped for Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £16m. "I don't criticise another club for paying it. They can pay what they want. I don't have any comment about it," he continued. "But for my club we can say it would be very negative for us, especially when we can say Felipe is much less expensive. "Filipe played for Brazil, won titles in Spain, won European competitions, played in the Champions League final. Yet this guy is much cheaper than an English young lad. "And is he good for our average wages? Yes he is. Sometimes you have to make decisions."
