6. Not buying Bitcoin when it was the price of suya.

Their plan is simple- acquire massive lands legally; bring their people in tiny bits, and let them marry and reproduce; overpopulate the acquired lands by massive births; covertly begin to ask for basic rights like schools, hospitals, markets, rights to vote, etc; become major political players in the said area where they have taken root, like deciding who becomes the chairman of a local government chairman or even governor. Strike a deal with a desperate politician to advance their course; get an opportunity to put their person in power... Take over the state and never relinquish their acquired power... Captain Traoré reportedly said if the doctor has all the answers, then he should be allowed to contribute directly. This may sound awesome but shows the general problem that African leaders have intolerance to criticism and self opinion. |

SmartEnergyng: Thank you sincerely for your**civil tone and willingness to engage thoughtfully**—this is exactly the kind of exchange we need more of in our national conversations.
You're absolutely right about the need to **cut down on the cost of governance**. I’ve made this same point repeatedly—even in my response to others who pretend that defending economic reform means excusing wasteful spending. **It doesn’t.** Reform must be *wholesome*, not selective. If the people are tightening their belts, then government must be seen tightening its agbada too.
On**reinvesting in critical sectors**—yes, again, spot on. Healthcare, agriculture, and industry are the engines of long-term national value. Without real investment in **production and productivity**, even the most carefully managed naira will remain under pressure.
Now, on the issue of **minimum wage and corpers’ allowance**—you make a valid observation about purchasing power erosion. ₦70,000 today does not carry the same weight ₦33,000 had years ago. But here’s the delicate balance: **raising wages without fixing productivity, inflation, and revenue sources just prints more money and fuels inflation further.**
What we need is **a wage increase tied to value creation**—both in the private and public sector. Otherwise, we’ll just end up giving people more naira that buys them even less.
As for the **Sierra Leone comparison**, I’d caution that cross-country salary comparisons can be tricky. Yes, some professionals may earn more on paper, but we must factor in taxation, cost of living, inflation, and currency stability. Still, your sentiment is valid—it’s frustrating that **Nigerian professionals aren’t rewarded enough**, considering their talent and workload.
But we fix that not just by paying more, but by **rebuilding the economy that pays them**—through better tax policy, export earnings, and service-sector growth.
In short, we’re not far apart. We all want a Nigeria that works—for everyone. I just believe **we have to build internal value before external rewards can be sustained.**
Let’s keep talking—and thank you again for keeping the tone respectful and the ideas flowing. Thank you Kind Human |

Veiniously: In a country where NYSC khaki has barely dried from sun and sweat after one year of national service, a new storm is brewing. The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has reportedly proposed extending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program to two years.
Yes you read that right. Two full years. One for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training, and the other for national service.
The proposal: skills first, service later According to reports, the new structure would dedicate the first year to skills and entrepreneurship development, followed by the second year of regular NYSC postings and service to the nation.
Supporters say it could help bridge the unemployment gap, providing youth with tools to become self-reliant or be absorbed into security agencies like the police or army.
https://xwahala.com.ng/two-years-of-nysc-nigerians-react-as-minister-proposes-bold-new-plan/ So as a doctor who has acquired professional skill, why should I pass through 1 year to acquire skills and entrepreneur skills if my government is managing the economy appropriately. Misplaced priorities to even pay youth corper 77k was a huge challenge. |
Politics › Re: $1 Buys A Meal In Nigeria, But $10 Won’t Fix The Economy: A Reality Check by Chibuezem(m): 8:08am On Apr 07, 2025 |
SmartEnergyng: A Different Lens on Economic Strength Let’s be clear: yes, the naira has weakened considerably, and inflation is a real threat. Nigerians are not living in economic luxury. But the way forward is not to frame our reality solely in the language of exchange rates. That’s like judging a yam’s worth by the size of a potato in another man’s farm.
What Nigeria must do—what Dr. Fasua is advocating—is to start developing an internal sense of value. Not one dependent on the dollar, but one built on local productivity, pricing, and practical standards of living.
The obsession with how our money performs abroad has blinded us to how it can be made to work better at home. I agree with you on the part of developing internal value but first let's cut down on government spending and reinvest it in sectors such as Healthcare, Agriculture, Industry etc. Also increase of minimum wage which can sustain the needs of the common man. 70,000 naira cannot sustain one at all. Even the 77k being paid to youth corper is less than the value of 33k paid 5 years ago. It's sad that a doctor in Sierra lonne earns more than a Nigerian doctor. |

Health › Re: Nigeria’s Health Sector Is A Disaster—an Audit Could Save It! by Chibuezem(m): 7:12am On Mar 06, 2025 |
Dpharmacist: Nigeria’s health system is a train wreck.
Nigeria’s health sector is in dire need of a comprehensive, industry-wide audit. For years, the system has struggled with poor infrastructure, inadequate funding, corruption, brain drain, and inefficiencies that have left millions without access to quality healthcare. Conducting a thorough audit would expose hidden challenges, corruption, highlight opportunities for improvement, and drive evidence-based policymaking to ensure a healthier future for Nigerians.
But beyond the health sector, every other industry in Nigeria—education, power, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, and more—could benefit from similar audits. Transparency, accountability, and proper resource allocation are essential for sustainable development, and without data-driven insights, reforms remain disjointed and ineffective.
The Case for a Health Sector Audit
Nigeria's healthcare system has been plagued by mismanagement, inadequate funding, and a lack of oversight. A comprehensive audit would provide valuable insights that could transform the sector in several ways:
1. Exposing Corruption and Mismanagement
The health sector, like many others, suffers from misallocation of funds, ghost workers, and procurement fraud. Billions are budgeted yearly, yet hospitals remain under-equipped, and basic medical supplies are often unavailable. An audit would reveal where the money truly goes and ensure resources reach the right places.
2. Addressing the Brain Drain Crisis
Nigeria is losing its best doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to countries like the UK, US, Canada, and Saudi Arabia due to low wages, poor working conditions, and lack of career advancement opportunities. An audit would help policymakers understand:
Why professionals are leaving
How salary structures compare globally
What policy changes could retain talent
3. Improving Infrastructure and Equipment
Many public hospitals lack functioning diagnostic machines, operating theaters, and even basic supplies like gloves and syringes. An audit would assess the current state of infrastructure and provide a roadmap for improvement.
4. Enhancing Drug Distribution and Availability
The issue of fake and substandard drugs has long plagued Nigeria, leading to treatment failures and drug resistance. A proper audit would trace drug supply chains, expose inefficiencies, and improve regulatory oversight to ensure Nigerians get quality medications.
5. Strengthening Primary Healthcare Systems
Despite being the first point of contact for many Nigerians, primary healthcare centers (PHCs) remain grossly underfunded and understaffed. An audit would:
Assess the number and conditions of PHCs
Identify gaps in staffing and funding
Help design interventions that improve access to healthcare in rural areas
Primary Health Clinics are supposed go to be the first point of contact for patients but well —PHCs are empty shells.
Life expectancy’s stuck at 54 while billions vanish into thin air.
A full-on audit could fix this—dig up the dirt, show where the cash is going, and force some damn accountability.
Imagine knowing exactly why rural clinics have no drugs or how much gets looted from budgets. It’d push real fixes, not just talk. Every sector—health, education, power—needs this wake-up call.
Why aren’t we demanding it? Thoughts? Who’s got the guts to make it happen?
PS. The first 2 images is that of an example of the state of some primary health care centre's in Nigeria. lol in the next 2 years it will get worse. |
