No confirmation is needed. The February payment is expected to arrive between now and next Friday. Time will tell if this is accurate, and the payment itself will ultimately confirm or deny it.

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a Christmas bonus of ₦150,000 for each state worker, marking a significant increase from last year’s ₦100,000 bonus.
This announcement was confirmed in a Facebook post on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor.

“Every worker in Ebonyi State service will receive ₦150,000 as a Christmas Bonus before 1pm on Tuesday… Gov. Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru,” the post read.

The bonus demonstrates Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare, particularly during the festive season.

The announcement comes amid the state’s implementation of the new minimum wage act, which exceeds the federal benchmark of ₦70,000 with an additional ₦5,000 for Ebonyi workers.

Federal government has previously increased their workers' salaries by some percentages, which Rivers state did not increase. Hope our governor will pay based on federal government's new template, which will be addition to previous increment. That is based on the current amount our counterparts from federal ministry are receiving when added to the new minimum wage.

The release of the template might be real. The PPSB representatives were at our school on resumption day. According to them,
1. The long awaited promotional letters are now available, and will soon be dispatched.
2. There will be follow-up promotional exercise for those wrongly placed, to make sure that all get their due promotion.
3. That minimum wage payment will be reflected in our payments this month or latest next month.

Governor Fubara: RSG Pays N2bn Monthly To Clear Pension, Gratuity Backlog

...Promises To Implement New Minimum Wage

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that the Rivers State Government now pays ₦2bn monthly to offset the backlog of pension and gratuity to retired civil servants.

Speaking during the 2024 Rivers State Civil Service Week, themed: ‘Building Resilient Education for Increased Access to inclusive Lifelong Quality and Relevant Learning in the Rivers State Civil Service’, at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Fubara explained that, he decided to increase the payment from one billion monthly to two billion to clear the backlog as well as ensure effective implementation of payment of gratuities and pensions to retired civil servants.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Governor Fubara further disclosed that Rivers will be amongst the first states to adopt Federal Government approved new minimum wage immediately it is implemented.

According to him, “As soon as the implementation modalities for the new minimum wage are released by the Federal Government, I re-assure you that Rivers State will be one of the first states in the country to implement it.

“We recognize that the civil service is the institutional memory of government. No government can stand without its support..., you are the health professionals that care for our health, the teacher that train our children, judicial officers who ensure that there is justice, virtually every spectrum of life and governance, you are the people", he said.

The Governor acknowledged that because growing and developing the state is an important task that must be accomplished, his administration has reintroduced the training of resident doctors and recruitment of new medical doctors, recruitment of tutorial and non-tutorial staff for Universal Basic Education nd Ignatius Ajuru University of Education; approved the certification of ICT staff in various digital certifications, instituted the state health insurance scheme, appointed new permanent secretaries with new vehicle to enhance performance and promised that his administration will do all within it's means to ensure the improved lives of civil servants.

“In realizing this, I want you to note that to whom much is given, much is expected. I therefore charge you to live up to your call to duty.

“I enjoin you to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance your productivity and improve the overall efficiency of the State Civil Service," he stressed.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo congratulated the civil servants on their week as he called on all to remain committed to building a resilient and inclusive civil service that places education and continuous learning at its fore.

The Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke thanked Governor Fubara for his continuous devotion to ensure an improved and efficient civil service.

“I commend His Excellency, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for his unwavering support and visionary leadership in promoting the growth and strengthening of our civil service. His dedication to enhancing our capabilities and resources is a testament to his great love for our state and its people.

“The theme of this year's celebration, Building Resilient Education for Increased Access to Inclusive Lifelong Quality and Relevant Learning in the Rivers State Civil Service, is not only apt but also timely. It underscores our dedication to fostering a civil service that supports continuous growth and adaptation in an ever-evolving world," he stated.

Prof. Godwin Okon delivered the keynote address on the theme for the Rivers State Civil Service Week.

I think Edo state that first implemented N70,000 uses the net. Level 7 received N127,000 above as heard.

Soon, the minimum wage will be reflected on our salary, probably before the end of the year.
To consider:
(1) 133.3333334 percent of N30,000 is N40,000
(2) 133.3333334 percent of N124,000 is N165,333.333
(3) 165,333.333 + N124,000 = N289,333.333
N24,286.49 was our basic salary at N70,721.31, which take home was N65,244.31.
For now, I don't know our basic salary, since I have not seen our payslip. But assuming that our basic is N70,000
Calculating with the basic salary, it should be 133.3333334% of N70,000, which is N93,333.3334 , therefore N124,000 + N93,333.3334 = N217, 333.3334
Calculating with the net, it should be 133.3333334 percent of N124,000, which is N165,333.333, therefore, 165,333.333 + N124,000 = N289,333.333
At worst it should be N124,000 + added N40,000 = N164,000.

To determine the new net salary, we need to calculate the percentage increase in the minimum wage and apply it to the civil servant's current net salary.

Current minimum wage: 30,000 naira
New minimum wage: 70,000 naira

Percentage increase: ((70,000 - 30,000) / 30,000) x 100% = 133.33% increase

Current net salary: 124,000 naira

New net salary = Current net salary x (1 + Percentage increase)
= 124,000 x (1 + 1.3333)
= 124,000 x 2.3333
= 289,999.20 naira

So, the civil servant's new net salary would be approximately 290,000 naira.

My colleague told us that level 13 officer in Edo state under their current minimum wage of N70,000 received N400,000 plus.

Your calculation will not be far from reality.

Can rivers state pay staffs 100k minimum wage?

Minimum wage will be around #65,000 to #70,000 at the end of the ongoing negotiation. The equivalent of old minimum wage suppose to be #90,000, ie times 3, as dollar, and fuel moved to times 3 and above.
Federal government will place the new minimum wage at #70,000, thereby reducing the masses purchasing power by #20,000. Bringing more poverty to the nation, as their political tools to win election.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has emphasised the need for the government and organised labour to come up with a sustainable minimum wage in the ongoing negotiations.

The governors made the call in a communique issued at the end of its virtual meeting and signed by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. They assured labour of governors’ commitment to pay the workers an improved wage.

In response, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress warned the state governors against defaulting on the new minimum wage that would be approved during the ongoing negotiations. They insist that the proposed N615,000 minimum wage is realistic, dismissing claims that some states cannot pay such an amount if approved.

To be realistic, comparing with dollar new minimum wage should be between #70,000 to #90,000. Labour should forget about N615,000. If federal government pay that amount dollar will rise to #10,000 per a dollar.

Dollar was #460 per dollar in May 2023, before President Tinubu took over.
If dollar stands at #1,380 per a dollar (i.e. X3) minimum wage should be #90,000
If dollar stands at #1,150 per a dollar (i.e. X2.5) minimum wage should be #75,000
If dollar stands at #960 per a dollar (i.e. X2) minimum wage should be #60,000
Then there will be an agreement that dollar should be regulated to stand at a particular point in which minimum wage will be fixed.

President Tinubu approves whatever you ask him to approve, but will not implement it. It is better they agreed on what he can implement after approval, and should make sure that the state governors agreed on the said new minimum wage, very important before signing into law.

Tomorrow is May 1st hopefully our their lovely Governor will say something positively, because our take home is not taking us home, the promotion and its increment was done when economic was somehow better. The downturn of the economy has cause a lot of damages.

Governor in the spirit of love, should approve and start the payment of N35,000 wage awards or push minimum wage to #70,000 pending when the federal government will come up with new minimum wage.
