So I have received a lot of responses to my original comment on this issue and would like to make some general replies. First I commend most of the responders for keeping it civil. We don't have to throw insults because we just want a better country, so kudos to you guys. I also admit that you made some valid points although I can deduce that your fears are borne out of what could happen if we have a monopoly in oil refining with the Dangote refinery. However, let's consider the following points:
1. Dangote refinery is NOT a monopoly. There are several other private refineries both working and those in progress including BUA's 200,000 bpd refinery (although I cannot confirm its current status) 2. Dangote is NOT SEEKING for a monopoly in refining petroleum products. Like I said earlier, there are other local refineries and the PIA act provides for continued issuance of permission to new investors once they meet the criteria for refinery license. 3. Local refiners CANNOT compete with importers. These importers are a cartel that have accumulated vast wealth through the fraudulent subsidy scheme over the decades. They can afford to slash their profits just to undercut and kill the local refiners; and then we will be at their mercy, believe me they won't be kind to us after they have gotten rid of local refiners. If they are so benevolent then why have NONE of these same billionaire importers invested in a local refinery all these years they have sapped our subsidy money fraudulently? 4. Allowing further importation of petroleum product will kill incentive for new investors into local refining. Shall we continue to import forever? Where has importation which we have done for over 3 decades gotten us to? No sane investor will build a refinery only to compete with importers. This simply defeats the essence of the new PIA act which seeks to encourage local investment in the petroleum industry. 5. NNPC is responsible for all this mess. It is a monumental disgrace that the NNPC cannot maintain ANY of their FOUR refineries. It is unconscionable. They are simply interested in issuing imported licenses and collecting kickbacks from fraudulent importers. 6. For those afraid of Dangote being a monopolist in this sector I think the emphasis should be on the regulator to ensure that no undue advantage is granted to any local player over the others.
Conclusively, this suit is to test the new PIA act in the law court. If indeed granting more import licenses is against the law, then Dangote, and indeed any local refiner reserves the right to test this assertion in court. Remember, if Dangote wins this war, more investors will invest in local refining. God bless everyone. |

millionboi2: shame on u and dangote for being afraid of competition,it means u know u are not good enough. Keep it civil. You can't compete with importers. They will undercut and kill local refiners and then we will be at their mercy. Now tell me which investor in his right mind will build a refinery when he can simply import and make fast money? If these importers are so patriotic why haven't they built refineries all these years they have been chopping subsidy money? |
Politics › Re: Ban NNPCL, Matrix, Others From Importing Refined Products - Dangote tells Court by chicfarmer: 7:19pm On Oct 21, 2024 |
Kobojunkie: Fighting for his business is by requiring an all-out ban on imports— kill the competition by way of banning imports. I don't agree at all! Dangote should instead woo buyers so they can come buy from him rather than consume imported PMS. This is like replacing one monster with another monster. E be like say this man's no understand any other language other than monopoly. I get your point, but read my response to @ Emeenaka to see why I support this action by Dangote. These guys are not importing because they love Nigeria so much. |
Politics › Re: Ban NNPCL, Matrix, Others From Importing Refined Products - Dangote tells Court by chicfarmer: 7:15pm On Oct 21, 2024 |
EmeeNaka: He want to strangle Nigeria using the court. Doesn't he want competition at all? I agree with you that there should be competition but certainly not with these selfish importers. Their aim is to undercut and kill that refinery and then turn around to deal with Nigerians. If they love their country so much why haven't these importers who have been fleecing us through subsidy all these years not been able to pool their resources to build a refinery? Besides, Dangote has a right to go to court if he feels that NMDPRA has violated the PIA act by issuing licenses to these importers. |
Politics › Re: Ban NNPCL, Matrix, Others From Importing Refined Products - Dangote tells Court by chicfarmer: 7:04pm On Oct 21, 2024 |
Dangote has a valid claim if indeed NMDPRA is in violation of the new PIA act by issuing those licenses. Why must we continue to import just to enrich a few fat cats to the detriment of Nigerians? The man needs to fight for his business before they cripple him. Let the Court decide. |

Now that DAN is left to ruin. Some alternatives Landers for low $xyz sales . I'll be updating the thread:
1. Efty
2. Namepros
3. DomainEasy: looks like DAN with zero commission.
4. Daaz: 5% commission. Low budget DAN. But works well. Like you can even hire a broker to help you follow up a lead.
5. Sawsells: 15% commission. Looks very promising. Clean UI. The only problem on checkout buyers have to pay 3% commission if they use credit card on the amount of domain purchases. That is if buyer buys a domain of $3K plus will pay additional $75 if they use credit card.
6. AfterMarket: Looks promising as hell. They acquired domain/Io and they will offer all those features in domain/io for free. Their commission rate seems to be 10%. UI looks clean as well.
7. Atom: 7% commission. Innovative & comes with several options.
Open to corrections, additions and further inputs. Great insight. Just to update that Daaz jerked up commission to 9% effective July this year. |

Learner47: that's d work I just did today, moved about 77 Geos to Daaz the remaining 30 something to Afternic & 1 to Atom.
Make I dey do experiments and tinker before choosing one.
Daaz is the closest to DAN. Fast & simplistic. The only wahala I see it's the UI doesn't look Trust worthy enough. But I think would be a good one for those end users that find it difficult to pay 100. Have had several end users try to negotiate for just 10 dollar difference. Can see how meticulous they are. Imagine them going over Afternic and Afternic takes them to GoDaddy checkout & theyr slammed about 20+ ontop their BIN. Great. Please keep us posted on enduser response to Daaz. I think I'll also jump on this bandwagon. I did a couple of $50 deals with them in the past and their services are just like Dan's. Thanks for your perspective. |
