Aha! Old Bendelites... Those were the Governor Ambrose Folorunso Alli of Bendel State years and more.

Indeed, aside from Crush, Maltina and other malt drinks that I liked to drink, chilled green bottles or cans of Green Sands Shandy NO get part 2. It's pretty clear to me now that the spread of Green Sands Shandy was all over the then 19 States. In addition to Lagos, I took Green Sands Shandy in the North of Nigeria as well back then.

As an OG in the game, I have a pleasant surprise for you though, since we are both celebrating nostalgic times. So, just a little over six hours ago, I found a link on how some types of shandy are made. So, head on and experiment with the tips here.

Whether it comes close to the actual taste of the original Green Sands Shandy brand of the 1980s is another thing entirely, but I'll also give it a try within the week. Heineken and Sprite will "suffer" in my hands from here on out.

Indeed, you hit the spot... I like some of the adjectives you used to qualify Green Sands Shandy here.

It was in the very early 1980s that I first drank it and it's taste OR recipe hasn't been replicated anywhere that I know of. It had a kind of "Ginger Ale" effect... But much deeper.
TRUE that! With a much larger population worldwide now, any company that relaunches Green Sands Shandy will make billions in profits for investors tbh.

The monochrome green label on the brown bottle was also irresistible. The monochrome green color of NL too is also one of the things that subconciously attracted me to this discussion forum since 2005...

I'm curious though, what state were you based in when you had that drink?... I was wondering whether Green Sands Shandy was widely available in all the then 19 states of Nigeria or it was it only limited to Lagos and a few states of Nigeria back in the 1980s.

It's general. I did 1.5 they gave me 6.7 instead of the usual 18 or so. When you factor in the repayment deduction you will see why yours is like that.

When I will have a problem with this outrageous fees is when they also fail to acknowledge quality by paying their staff a minimum of #1m per month.

When it comes to school fees dem go use quality as excuse to charge outrageously, but to also pay staff outrageously na problem.

What's wrong with that? Enyimba will make money from player transfer and even sell-on clause inserted into the contracts. The funds will be used to develop the club and the technical collaboration between both clubs will also benefit players and club. Win win. Kanu is smart. I like.

The difference between cassava flour and garri is in the processing. It's texture are different.

Garri is Coarse.

Cassava flour is smooth.


When processing cassava flour, your cassava is grated twice, pressed, sun-dried or use a dryer and it's filtered.

Some people dry the cassava before grating it, you need good sun to do this or your cassava will rot.
So I prefer grating before drying.

When processing garri, your cassava is grated once, pressed, filtered, then dried using fire and a pot or pan.



I experimented on frying garri, it tasted horrible.

There's this cassava meal they make in my place, you eat it together with beans. I'll look for the photo.
They call it "Cassava Akara", you make your cassava akara, the very day the cassava is grated.
Just like beans akara, you can't grate your cassava today and make your akara tomorrow.
It tastes really good.

If this your cassava akara is what I'm thinking it is, then it goes well with coconut. Am I right?
