According to Henry Omoregie he was part of the NLNG construction history from the scratch including piping, electrical and safety supervision. He said NLNG was built (first 2 trains) for 3.8 billion USD. With an additional train, it shot up to 4.2 billion USD with plans to expand to about 7 trains on hold, it should (construction-ly speaking) worth about 10 - 15 billion USD or so. That is less than the billions of dollars figures the APC-led Nigeria has been bandying about, as recovered loot.

The JV agreement is shared 49% for Nigeria (NNPC) and the rest 51% by Shell, (biggest share of the other 3 at about 25%) Agip (ENI Group) and Total (then TotalFinaElf).

He said he understands during his sojourn in Bonny Island, that the plant would be wholly NNPC's after 22 years (counting from 1999 or just before). That means in 2021, 51% becomes an addition to the 49% = 100% Naija-owned.He also said the most expensive single ''asset'' in Nigeria and Africa today is the NLNG Plant in Bonny Island, Rivers State Nigeria.

PoliticsBuhari Signs Paris Agreement;Says 9ja Will Reverse Effects Of Climate Change(Pix by chie8(op): 9:56pm On Sep 22, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change has demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to a global effort to reverse the effects of the negative trend.
The President said this while addressing the opening of the meeting on Taking Climate Action for Sustainable Development in New York, co-hosted by Nigeria and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as one of the Side Events of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA71).
President Buhari, had shortly before this event, signed the Paris Agreement, where he committed Nigeria to reducing “Green House Gas Emissions unconditionally by 20 per cent and conditionally by 45 per cent” in line with Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions.” Describing the signing as historic, he had also expressed confidence that with support from development partners, Nigeria will meet the above targets.
The President also promised to ensure the ratification of the Paris Agreement before the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Marrakesh, Morocco in November 2016.
He stressed that it was to demonstrate his personal dedication to the process of implementing the Agreement that he was hosting the side event on Taking Climate Action Towards Sustainable Development.
President Buhari, who said he was privileged to have been part of the Paris Agreement, expressed appreciation to what he called “the genuine efforts by President Francois Hollande of France in drawing global attention to reviving the Lake Chad Basin,” and for galvanizing the political will that led to the global consensus in reaching the Paris Agreement.
The Nigerian President said his country’s commitment to the Paris Agreement is articulated through its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) “that strive to build a climate resilient society across the diverse terrain of Nigeria. We have instituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change to govern implementation of my country’s NDCs, thereby ensuring a strong cross-sectoral approach, coherence and synergy for Climate Action.”
President Buhari, while admitting that implementing the Roadmap will not be easy in the face of dwindling national revenues, however, indicated that both internal and external resources would be mobilized to meet Nigeria’s targets, adding that the 2017 Budget will reflect Nigeria’s efforts to accord priority to realizing its NDCs.
“In addition, we are set to launch our first ever Green Bonds in the first quarter of 2017 to fund a pipeline of projects all targeted at reducing emissions towards a greener economy,” he said.
While urging global support to transit to a low-carbon climate resilient economy, the President specifically reminded industrialized nations “to play their role and deliver on their commitments on access to climate finance and technology transfer and help with capacity-building,” adding that, “Expectations are high for their leaders to deliver US$100 billion per year by 2020 in support of developing countries to take climate action, thus keeping the promise to billions of people.”
President Buhari, who thanked the Presidents of Chad, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger for attending the event, also called on the international community to “give special recognition to the plight of Lake Chad and support our effort to resuscitate the livelihoods of over 5 million people in the region. This will reinforce our efforts to reintegrate the thousands of Boko Haram victims and returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).”
The President noted that the Niger Delta region is a unique biodiversity rich in coastal environment that is highly prone to adverse environmental changes occasioned by climate change, such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, exacerbated by poverty and many decades of oil pollution leading to loss of livelihoods and ecosystems.
He added however, that “through an integrated approach, implementation of the NDCs, and our efforts to clean up Ogoniland, we will improve livelihoods, protect the environment and take climate action, and ensure the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

BusinessTony Elumelu Wins Africa Investor ‘Person Of The Year’ Award In New York(photos) by chie8(op): 7:03am On Sep 21, 2016
September 20

Yesterday, I was honoured to receive the ‘Person of the Year’ award at the Africa Investor CEO Institutional Investment Summit hosted alongside the UN General Assembly in New York.

I dedicated my award to all Transcorp Power staff who remain committed to realizing our dream of improving access to electricity in Nigeria and making our vision of a well-lit, fully powered Nigeria come true. Because of their hard work and diligence, Transcorp Power is now the biggest producer of thermal energy in Nigeria, providing about 18% of national output: As many of you know, Transcorp Power has also supported U.S. President Obama’s Power Africa initiative with a $2.5billion commitment.

I also dedicated my award to all stakeholders working hard to improve access to power in Africa. I strongly urge local and global institutional investors to consider long-term opportunities on the continent to join us in this journey to powering Africa out of poverty. This call to the investment community is critical as the economies of African regional powerhouses like Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Uganda, Nigeria and Angola struggle due to excessive exposure to commodities’ prices caused by limited diversification. We need a sustainable solution to reduce our historical external vulnerability. Africa has been faced with this same challenge, in my view, for far too long.

I choose to look at the recent episodes of economic contraction across the continent as opportunities to diversify our economies and invest in building critical infrastructure, especially in power, to reduce our susceptibility to commodity shocks and break out of the perpetual boom-bust cycles.

To ensure a different type of growth trajectory for Africa – one that does not rely exclusively on the export of primary commodities –  there must be reliable, accessible, affordable electricity, to support industrialization on a massive scale to power us out of chronic dependency on commodities. We must power Africa’s next phase of development, by targeting and prioritizing growth of our manufacturing, industries and services.

While there is an abundance of private capital available, at the local and global levels, to be deployed to develop the African power sector, government must play its part in attracting these investments. As we know, private capital goes to where it is most welcome. Our African governments should ensure that they create a conducive environment that will attract and retain these investments in our continent. Foreign investors can also overcome most environmental challenges by entering partnerships with qualified local partners who possess the right knowledge, requisite capital and technical know how.

It is critical for the public and private sectors to work together in “SHARED PURPOSE”, which is a key tenet of Africapitalism -  the economic philosophy I espouse, which calls for the private sector to play a key role in Africa’s social and economic development by investing in strategic sectors for both economic profit and social prosperity.

In conclusion, I stressed the critical role of power in creating opportunities for Africa’s jobless youth. In the 21st century, the level of poverty we have in Africa and the dire youth unemployment, to a large extent, can be solved by improving access to power, and by extension other infrastructure deficiencies and deficits. The African Energy Leaders Group (AELG), a community of African energy leaders including Presidents and leading corporates which I co-chair, and other positively like-minded coalitions are making progress, but there is still a lot to be done. We need faster progress.

CrimeOperatives Of Rapid Response Squad Nab Inter-state 'Okada" Thief In Lagos(pic) by chie8(op): 12:22pm On Sep 14, 2016
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, over the weekend, arrested one Jamiu Bello, 26, who specializes in motorcycle theft, popularly known as ‘okada’ in virtually all the states in the South West. The suspect was arrested by the RRS operatives while trying to steal a motorcycle with the registration number, KTU 388 QG, belonging to Israel Ikyav, a commercial rider at Ijora Olopa, Lagos.

According to the victim, "I parked my okada beside a canteen around Ijora. As I entered the canteen to eat, I noticed people outside were chasing one guy…. One of my colleagues rushed inside the canteen to call me that my okada had been stolen by one guy. I left the full plate of food I ordered for and joined them in chasing him…. if not for RRS operatives' riders, the suspect would have made away with my bike. We knew that we could not catch up with him because he was far ahead of us with the bike already…. I quickly alerted the RRS riders, who were patrolling the area about the incident. And, immediately, they chased the suspect with their bikes…. After so much effort, they double - crossed him with their bikes…. at this point, the thief abandoned the bike and he tried to escape on foot and then with another motor cyclist before he was arrested."

The suspect, a father of three children, gave account on how he has been stealing bikes in states across the South-West: "I started this crime about two years ago. There were two of us and we operated in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo States…. my accomplice whose name is Ibijuwon is currently serving a jail term in Kirikiri Prison…. The day we went for an operation where he was arrested, it was around Lagos Island, I managed to escape with a stolen bike while he was arrested and subsequently taken to the court where he was eventually sentenced to jail."

He further explained, "on this fateful day, I left Epe to Yaba area. On getting to Yaba, I looked around to know how to start the day's job there but I couldn’t find any motorcycle to steal around the area…. Then, I decided to move to Ijora-Olopa with the hope of stealing any bike on sight. I contracted a commercial motorcycle from Yaba to Ijora…. at Ijora, I saw this man (his victim) when he parked his bike outside and entered the canteen. I noticed that he had locked its steering. So, I quickly asked the rider who took me from Yaba that I wanted to alight to see my brother briefly in that area, unknown to him that I had a sinister motive".

The suspect added "I moved closer to the bike and broke its locked steering. Then I mounted it and zoomed off…. Meanwhile, I had abandoned the commercial rider who brought me to the area. When I was on the bike, I thought I had escaped. Suddenly, I saw two RRS motorcycles pursuing me. I sped off but I was so unlucky they caught up with me despite the fact that I over sped…. I attempted to escape by joining another motorcyclist, yet I was caught again, that was how I gave up."

While confessing to the crime at the RRS's Headquarters, the suspect revealed that his two receivers of stolen motorcycles are based in Lagos. He explained, "I have stolen no fewer than 20 motorcycles across South West. If I go to other states apart from Lagos to operate, I will ride the bike down to Lagos to sell here…. I have two receivers of these stolen bikes. One of them lives at Alamutu in Mushin while the other is in Ijora…. I sold one motorcycle for N40,000 depending on how clean they looked."

The suspect whose body was filled with scars noted that they were as a result of the injuries from his past criminal activities. "All these scars on my body were healed injuries inflicted on me by mob actions anytime I was caught stealing motorcycles. I am just an unrepentant thief because I was supposed to have changed my way of life," he said.

The State's Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the incidence, said that efforts are ongoing to arrest the receivers of the stolen motorcycles. She said that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
