PoliticsCourt Didn't Declare Sheriff PDP Chairman Or Makarfi Committee Illegal: PDP by chie8(op): 5:51pm On Jul 29, 2016
LET’S SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT BEING THE CONTENT OF PRESS CONFERENCE BY PRINCE ADEDAYO ADEYEYE MEMBER OF THE PDP NATIONAL CARETAKER COMMITTEE ON 29TH JULY, 2016

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press:

As you are aware yesterday 28th day of July, 2016, the case filed by Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff and 8 other Plaintiffs against the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission i.e. Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/464/2016 came up before Hon. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division.

The Plaintiffs filed an application to stop the National Convention slated for 17th August, 2016 at Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

When this matter came for hearing yesterday 28th July, 2016, Learned Senior Counsel Ferdinand Orbih, SAN who was briefed to represent the 2nd defendant, the Peoples Democratic Party announced appearance for the said 2nd Defendant PDP.

O.O. Fakunle, SAN also announced appearance for the PDP claiming to have been briefed by one Barr. Bashir Maidugu who is the 5th Plaintiff in the matter.

In addition, members of the National Caretaker Committee applied to be joined as Parties to the case. The application for joinder was filed by Yunus Ustaz Usman, SAN and Mr. Raji Ahmed, SAN.

That was the only application that was argued yesterday 28th July, 2016, and adjourned to 15th August, 2016 for ruling.

Now on the widely reported “ORDERS” purported to have been made by Hon. Justice Okon Abang, it is important to note the following:

a. The motion seeking to restrain the PDP from conducting the proposed 17th August, 2016 National Convention has not been heard by the Court and no date has been fixed for the hearing of same.

b. What was before the Court yesterday was the issue of who is the authentic legal Counsel for the PDP as between Ferdinand Orbih, SAN and O.O. Fakunle, SAN.

The Court in determining the question of Legal representation held that the appointment of O.O. Fakunle, SAN by Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff was acceptable to the Court.

It must be emphasized that at no stage did the Hon. Judge set aside the judgment of Justice A.M. Liman of the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court, which could have led to the dissolution of the National Caretaker Committee.
An Order validating Sheriff as National Chairman could not have arisen from the issue of proper legal representation.

For the avoidance of doubt, the portion of the ruling relating to this is herein- under reproduced:
“Though I have powers to nullify the decision of the Port Harcourt Division that recognized Makarfi Leadership, I will not do so because there is no application to that effect before me. I will, however allow the Court of Appeal to do justice to that”

This is necessary because proceedings of Courts of Law should not be subject of subjective manipulation. We are a law abiding Committee and will always continue to operate within the ambit of the law.

It is not possible in Law that a Judge of a Court of record will acknowledge the existence of a valid judgment and proceed to make the kind of Orders purportedly attributed to him.

Ladies and Gentlemen; it should be very clear to you now that the ruling of yesterday did not at any point hand over the Leadership of PDP to Sen. Ali Modu sheriff, it did not declare the Sen. Makarfi led Caretaker Committee illegal and did not stop the proposed 17th August, 2016 National Convention.

PoliticsMakarfi PDP Unveil Zoning 4 August Convention(See Positions Zone 2 North+South by chie8(op): 5:16am On Jul 27, 2016
REPORT OF THE 2016 PDP NATIONAL ZONING COMMITTEE

PRESENTED TO THE NATIONAL CARETAKER COMMITTEE ON TUESDAY JULY 26, 2016

Introduction

Pursuant to Section 2 (d) and (e) on the Preamble of the PDP Constitution (As Amended in 2012) regarding equitable distribution of offices across the wards, local government areas, states and zones of the Federation, the Expanded National Caucus of the Party held on the 14th of July, 2016 at Yar'Adua Center, Abuja, mandated the National Caretaker Committee led by H.E. Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON to constitute a zoning committee to zone the positions ahead of the forthcoming National Convention slated for Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; bearing in mind that the last National Convention approved the Zoning of Presidency in 2019 to the North.

In compliance with the directive, an 88-member National Zoning Committee was constituted and Inaugurated on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Yar'Adua Center, Abuja having H.E. Engr. David Umahi Nweze, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State as the Chairman, H. E. Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo, the Executive Governor of Gombe State as Co-Chairman and the former Governor of Benue State, H. E. Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam as Secretary, respectively. At the Inauguration, both Chairman and Co-Chairman were ably represented by their Deputies. The Committee was given one week to deliver its report.

After the Inauguration, the Committee met briefly at the Venue and agreed to reconvene on Monday July 25, 2016 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja by 6:00 Pm.

The Meeting

The Meeting which began at 6:58 PM with a Muslim Prayer said by the former Governor of Katsina State, H.E. Ibrahim Shehu Shema was presided over by the Chairman, H. E. Engr. David Umahi Nweze with the Co-Chairman, H. E. Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, and the Secretary of the Committee, H. E. Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam present. Also present were: Senator Ibrahim Mantu, former Deputy Senate President, Professor Jerry Gana, Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President, former Governors and other members of the Committee.

The Chairman while making his opening remarks charged members on the need to approach the assignment with an open mind considering its importance to the progress of the Party.

As a guide, the Committee considered earlier zoning arrangements in the Party since its inception to date, and equally examined previous happenings in the Party in respect of restrictions to equal participation of members. Consequently, it desired a paradigm shift from the unsatisfactory practices within the Party operations. After robust deliberations on proposals presented by members, the Committee proposed as follows:

1. That all positions should be keenly contested for among the major zones they are zoned to in order to open the space and allow for full participation of members;
2. That the Chairmanship of the Party be Zoned to the Southern zones bearing in mind that the Presidential Ticket of the Party for 2019 was zoned to the Northern zones as approved by the National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday, May 21, 2016;

3. That the positions of Deputy National Chairman be returned to 1 & 11.

4. That the Six (6) National Vice Chairmen be included as members of the National Working Committee (NWC);

5. The Committee encouraged the Party to adopt a pattern of zoning by switching positions from North to South and accordingly, we have recommended as follows for 2016 Party elective positions:

6. Positions Zoned to Northern Zones
a. Deputy National Chairman 2
b. National Secretary
c. National Financial Secretary
d. National Publicity Secretary
e. National Auditor
f. National Woman Leader
g. Deputy National Treasurer
h. Deputy National Organizing Secretary
i. Deputy National Youth Leader
j. Deputy National Legal Adviser and

c. National Treasurer
d. National Legal Adviser
e. National Youth Leader
f. National Organizing Secretary
g. Deputy National Publicity Secretary
h. Deputy National Woman Leader

The Old Market in Sokoto, Sokoto State has been razed by fire.Although Trezzy Blog could not ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak as at press time, it was gathered that Governor Aminu Tambuwal raced to the scene of the incident to join in the efforts to put out the fire.

It could not be confirmed the extent of the damage the outbreak had caused, it was said however that millions of naira worth of goods must have been affected judging by the intensity of the inferno.

All efforts to speak with the spokesman to the Governor of Sokoto, Mallam Imam Imam, proved abortive as his telephone line was switched off.
