Hon. Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe's mother, late Ma Elizabeth Egbi Ogbe was laid to rest in far away Efugo-Otukpa in Ogbadibo local government area of Benue state.

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, his deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu lead other top Nigerian personalities, among them were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (iAPC), Chief John Oyegun, Dr Chris Ngige,Peter Obi,other serving and past ministers, former governors, military officers, the CBN governor , national Assembly members and other leading politicians were there.

She died last month and she was 96 years.See photos from the burial above

Cameroon international football player, Patrick Ekeng, was buried in his hometwon in Yaounde, Cameroon on May 14 - two weeks after he collapsed on the pitch during a league match in Romania on May 6 and died of suspected heart attack. He was aged 26.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has sent letters to various government agencies directing them to embark on a nationwide indefinite strike from Wednesday 18th May, 2016 should the Federal Government fail to revert the new fuel price regime.

According to the letter, the nationwide mass protest will continue till further notice.

Dufuna Canoe is a canoe discovered in 1987 by a Fulani cattle herdsman a few kilometers from the village of Dufuna in the Fune Local Government Area, not far from the Komadugu Gana River, in Yobe State Nigeria. Radiocarbon dating of a sample of charcoal found near the site dates the canoe at 8500 to 8000 years old, linking the site to Lake Mega Chad.
It is the oldest boat to be discovered in Africa, and the second oldest known worldwide.The canoe is currently in Damaturu the state capital

Sesugh Uhaa, an American professional wrestler of Nigerian descent (Benue State) was officially announced as part of a new class of NXT recruits in a press conference on April last year. NXT is a name given to the periodic specials produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)

Uhaa who goes by the stage name Apollo Crews started his career in 2009, originally working under the ring name Uhaa Nation, and made his breakthrough in 2011, when he was signed by the Dragon Gate USA promotion. In 2015, Uhaa signed with WWE and was assigned to its developmental brand NXT, where he was given the ring name Apollo Crews.

 

On April 4, 2016 he was promoted to WWE’s main roaster on Raw, in a victory over Tyler Breeze. Crews then entered a feud with The Social Outcasts, defeating each member of the stable.

The 28-year-old  from Sacramento, California, made his first televised appearance on the May 6 episode of NXT.

The troops of 21 Brigade, 7 Division, have continued their offensive operations against the Boko Haram terrorists still hiding in the Sambisa forest.

On Sunday 8th May 2016, the troops have cleared 4 villages in the terrorists enclave which include Bala Karege, Goske, Harda and the famous Markas 3. There was no encounter with the terrorists in all the villages as the Boko Haram terrorists have abandoned their huts and ran away.

Unfortunately, the troops ran into an ambush at Harda village, while advancing. The resilient troops successfully cleared the ambush without any casualty and proceeded with the operations.

The formation recovered suicide vests and quite a number of high calibre weapons which include; 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Bomb, 18 rounds of 23mm Shilka ammunition, 1 Barrel of AK-47 rifle, 1 Extra-barrel of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 3 AK-47 rifle magazines, metal link of 12.7mm ammunition and a heavy-duty solar panel battery.

The troops also recovered 10 vehicles and 50 motorcycles belonging to the fleeing terrorists.

In a related development, Boko Haram terrorists from another part of Sambisa forest, were reported to have taken advantage of the heavy downpour that occurred to move closer to the troops.

However, the troops were very vigilant as they decisively and successfully dealt with the intruders. So far, 2 vehicles were recovered from Boko Haram terrorists and over 8 Boko Haram terrorists bodies were counted before nightfall.

There is possibility of recovering more by day break. We shall get you more details as the operation progresses.

President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday his administration has prioritised the repair and construction of roads within the country, unlike his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, who earmarked very little for infrastructure.Buhari said this in a speech before signing the 2016 budget into law.

He said.......

“To illustrate our renewed commitment to infrastructural development, the 2016 budget allocates over N200 billion to road construction as against a paltry N18 billion allocated for same purpose in the 2015 budget,”.

Her Finance Minister had earlier said in 2015 that N90 billion was spent on roads.This has caused a serious social media debate on whether President Buhari is being honest to Nigerians since the report he gave is different from what his Minister said about Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

Barakat, 16, and her 11-year-old twin siblings went missing six weeks ago. Their father, Musiliu Adetoro, a commercial driver in Lagos state, has now appealed to the state government and the police to help find them, Guardian reports.
Musiliu, a commercial motorcyclist who lives at Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos, had on Saturday, March 19th sent his daughter Barakat on an errand and she was accompanied by her twin brothers to Olainukan Bus Stop.
He said that was the last time he saw them, adding that he has been taking care of them alone after he separated from their mother, 11 years ago. A call to their mother revealed that they are not with her.

In fulfillment of the promise by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to deliver more accessible inner roads in the State, the rehabilitation of the popular Brown Street in Oshodi Local Government Area has been completed.


Governor Ambode had visited the street on August 19, 2015, where he expressed dismay at the state of the road. He immediately directed the State Public Works Corporation to commence rehabilitation work on the road. The road was completed last month.


The road provides a viable alternative for motorists to link Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, from Agege Motor Road in few minutes.

Yesterday, news of the sad incident involving singer Ketchup who was said to have gone into a coma following a jet ski accident in Dubai went viral. According to earlier reports, the ‘Pam Pam’ singer was with friends when the sad incident occurred, and reports claimed he was in a critical condition.

Now, the first photo of him confined to a hospital bed has surfaced on social media. The singer is seen lying in bed his eyes open, an indication of a minimally conscious state following severe brain injury, not coma as earlier reported.




Reports state that about 60% of people who go into this state survive it. So hopefully, he’ll pull through.

Ketchup had gone to Dubai to celebrate his birthday with friends, and from his last updates on Instagram, he threw an all-white affair bash, after which he showed off the presents he received from American rapper, Rick Ross.

Anambra State Government has flagged off the commencement of tractor services to Small Holders Farmers across the state for the 2016 planting season.The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr Afam Mbanefo performed the Flag-off at the State's Tractor Base at Awkuzu, in Oyi Council Area.







The Project which is run by the State Government in partnership with E-Force Agro Development will see the zoning of the Tractors to farmers across the state at a highly subsidized rate for aggressive mechanization of farms in the state. The initiative aims to achieve mechanized farming on the twenty thousand hectares of land targeted by the State Government for this planting season within three months.
Performing the Flag-off, Mr. Mbanefo said the Present Administration is sparing no effort in providing the necessary farm implements that will support farmers improve their practice in its bid to revolutionize the State's Agricultural Sector.



Mr. Mbanefo revealed that with the collaboration of Farmers' Associations and other Agric Programmes, the Ministry has been able to develop a comprehensive database on individual farmers and Cooperatives in the state with Identification numbers assigned to them, noting that this has helped Government identify and deal directly with the real farmers.

According to him, the tractor service initiative was designed in a way that as the farms are being mechanized, the owners also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Off takers to ensure that there is a market for every produce and that farmers get maximum profit for their ventures. The Agric Commissioner appealed to farmers in the state to continue to identify with the Ministry and support the Obiano administration for sustained interventions in the Sector.







The Executive Director, E-Force Agro-Development, Mr. Thaddeus Bodam explained that they were encouraged to work with the State Government on the project because of its clear blueprint for Agric Revolution in the state and assured that they are committed to sustaining the partnership to ensure the full mechanization of all farms in the state.

In their separate remarks, some farmers including Chief Peter Anaekwe from Omor in Ayamelum and Mr Charles Erokwu from Onitsha thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his genuine commitment towards the development of agriculture, noting that with his support, the state is on course towards achieving food sufficiency and generating surplus for export.Test-run of the tractor by the Commissioner and solidarity chants by the farmers formed the highpoint of the event.
