PoliticsIke Ekweremadu Commissions Rumueprikom-Rumuolumeni Road In Rivers State(pics) by chie8(op): 7:03pm On May 27, 2016
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has praised Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for bringing back faith in government through his superlative projects delivery at a time people are losing faith in government.

He spoke in Port Harcourt on Friday in continuation of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike's eventful one year in office, when he commissioned the
Rumueprikom-Rumuolumeni road leading to key economic outlets , the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and Naval Warship NNS Pathfinder.

The Deputy Senate President declared that contrary to the false reports being circulated by the media, Rivers State is peaceful, with Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike delivering on projects and transforming the state.
He said: "I can see people working together, I can see a state government in action. I can see a governor committed to the transformation of the state and a governor determined to use the opportunity given to him by the people of the state to the benefit of the people.

"I am happy to see that the governor has brought faith to government when people are losing faith in government. "
He urged the people to always support Governor Wike to deliver on quality projects and programmes for the development of the state.

The Deputy Senate President also commissioned the Elioparanwo Road in Ward 9 of Obio/Akpor Local Government Government Area. Both roads were awarded by the immediate past administration , but abandoned at less than 40 percent completion.

He also flagged off the construction of the Tam-David West Boulevard (Obiri-Ikwerre road) , an alternative route to the Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike explained that the Rumueprikom-Rumuolumeni remains critical to the economy of the state because of the presence of several international companies along the route.

He said: "This road is critical to the growth of the state's economy. We have several companies on this road and it cuts across a densely populated community.
"This road also leads to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and the Naval Warship NNS Pathfinder. Therefore, we were under obligation to fulfil our promise to the people and also take actions to expand the economy of the state".

Commenting at the commissioning of the Elioparanwo Road, Governor Wike said that the road is relevant to one of the most populous communities in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area which determines the direction of election results.

The governor stated that the decision to construct the Obiri-Ikwerre road was taken during the Holy Ghost Rally in Port Harcourt hosted by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

He said that the road will engender economic growth in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas communities along the route, pointing out that the road will be completed in nine to ten months.
The governor urged the people to support the contractor to deliver the project without molestation.

Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu stated that the two road projects were abandoned, but completed in record time by the Governor Wike administration.
Day 3 of the celebration of New Rivers State was witnessed by National Assembly members, Former Governor Celestine Omehia, former Ministers and State Lawmakers.

Simeon Nwakaudu,
Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media.

BusinessBillionaire Aliko Dangote Empowers Lagos Women With N400 Million(photos) by chie8(op): 3:09pm On May 27, 2016
In line with Aliko Dangote’s tradition of helping the less privileged, 40, 000 indigent women in all the local governments in Lagos state were given N400 million. The disbursement was held at the Conference Hall of Lagos House in Ikeja.

The foundation which was set up in 1993 is meant to alleviate poverty. So far, 256,500 women in Kano, Jigawa,Kogi, Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe have benefited from the scheme that is expected to move round all the 774 local government areas across the nation. For the first time since the programme started, beneficiaries will receive the money in their account and also get mobile phones.

Speaking at the event,Governor Ambode said......

'The real essence of wealth is to improve the standard of living of people around us. True wealth is measured not by the property one acquires but by the ability to positively affect the society and lift up less privileged people.

The decision of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to share his wealth with the people of Lagos State, is a strong indication of love and support for the well-being of our people. This gesture shows a depth of character and compassion that should be emulated by other people who are equally endowed.

I am delighted that Alhaji Aliko Dangote has decided to support our social regeneration programme in Lagos State by collaborating with the State’s Ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation through this micro-grant programme.

The Micro-Grant Programme is designed to enhance the income generating capacity of beneficiaries through seed grants of N 10,000 and other accessories. This programme will reach beneficiaries across the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the State.

We shall ensure that the micro-grant is administered to benefit the targeted disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community, especially the widows and other special interest persons.

I urge members of the Micro-Grants Beneficiary Selection Committee to ensure transparency in the nomination process from the Ward level. Nobody must be denied access to this facility on the basis of gender, political, ethnic or religious affiliation.

Let me also use this opportunity to appeal to the first set of beneficiaries not to abuse the opportunity afforded them by the Micro-Grant Programme. The seed grants you will receive have been provided to enable you engage in petty commercial activities and cottage business that would put food on the table for your family and not a largesse that should be spent frivolously.

I assure Lagosians that we shall be consistent in providing a conducive environment that would ensure continuous development and economic empowerment for residents and investors. I also urge other well meaning, public spirited individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the kind gesture of the Dangote Foundation and collaborate with Lagos State Government to provide socio-economic palliatives and other poverty alleviation initiatives to enhance the quality of life for our people.

On behalf of the Lagos State Government and beneficiaries of this Micro-Grant programme, I express our deep gratitude to Mr. Aliko Dangote and the Dangote Foundation for this symbolic gesture.

I now formally launch the Dangote Foundation Micro Grant to the benefit of our women'.

PoliticsHouse Of Representatives Passes 19 Critical Bills In One Sitting by chie8(op): 5:04am On May 27, 2016
In continuation of its resolve to improve on the quality of and reduce the time frame within which bills are passed, the House of Representatives on Thursday passed 19 bills.

The bills, which, however, require concurrence of the senate and presidential assent to be made laws, cover serious areas of concentration of the present administration including anti-corruption, national minimum wage, strengthening of small and medium businesses, manufacturing sector, among others.

It will be recalled that the House only recently passed 130 bills through first reading on the same day. Many of those bills, it will be noted, have scaled through further legislative processes.

Some of the bills that were passed yesterday include the bill for an Act to amend the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences act, a bill for an Act to Amend the Dangerous Drugs Act, a Bill for an Act to amend the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund Act and a bill for an Act to amend the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act to modify the definition of Bank and Money Instrument, review the composition of the commission and harmonise the tenure of offices of members.

Also passed were a bill for an Act to Establish the National Child Protection and Enforcement Agency, a bill to Amend the provisions of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency Act and a bill for an Act to Amend the Value Added Tax Act to review upwards the fines and penalties specified for offences under Act.

Another very relevant bill that was passed by the House is that of an Act to Regulate the Rights and Obligations under Tenancy Agreements and the relationship between the landlord and the tenant, including the procedure for recovery of premises in the Federal Capital Territory and other related matters.

PoliticsWe Must Work Towards Self-sufficiency In Production Of Items We Import:Buhari by chie8(op): 8:54pm On May 25, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari reaffirmed Wednesday in Abuja that his administration is fully committed and determined to do all within its powers to achieve the rapid diversification of Nigeria's economy in the shortest possible time.

Speaking at a farewell audience with the outgoing Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Saeed Koozechi, President Buhari said he was convinced that with greater diligence, hard work and patriotic determination to achieve self-sufficiency, Nigeria can produce most of the items currently on its import list.

"We made a terrible mistake by becoming a mono-product economy hinged on oil and we are now in a volatile situation, due to the crash in oil prices. We have seen the benefits of diversification which helped Iran to survive many years of sanctions and still come out strong.

"We are now fully committed to economic diversification. Most of the things on our import bills can be produced here. And we are determined to achieve that self-dependency," President Buhari told the outgoing envoy.

At a separate audience with the outgoing Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Gu Xiaojie, President Buhari gave an assurance that the Federal Government will continue to do its best to meet its obligations under bilateral agreements with China for the development of critical infrastructure in Nigeria.

The President said that because of their importance to Nigeria, his administration will uphold contractual agreements with Chinese companies for the development of essential infrastructure which it inherited from past administrations, and work to ensure that the projects are speedily completed.

The President reiterated his particular commitment to the completion of the Mambilla Power Project which, he said, was of great strategic importance to his government's efforts to ensure that Nigeria does not become over-reliant on gas-powered electricity generation.

President Buhari commended the outgoing ambassadors for their efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and their countries during their tenure in Abuja. He wished them well in their future endeavours.

PoliticsPDP Blasts Buhari: You're Like Hitler, Tyrants Cover Up With Fighting Corruption by chie8(op): 10:45am On May 19, 2016

The opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has in series of tweets claimed that Nigerian government is not only adopting the method of Adolf Hitler, but also its leader has become a tyrant. This is coming just as the party claimed that the Federal Government is crushing the opposition, Labour Unions, Civil Societies and the Press. Continue reading…

Those who support the crushing of the opposition, Labour Unions and intimidation of the press will one day need these institutions. All tyrants will always say they are fighting corruption or in justice in the system in order to enthrone their tyranny.

"I am not a tyrant". -Adolf Hitler. No tyrant will ever accept that he is a tyrant. Hitler did it, we are seeing a repetition in Nigeria. There is a deliberate attempt to crush all forms of opposition to this government.

Those who support the harassment & intimidation of the judiciary by this tyrant will one day need the judiciary to save them from the tyrant. Those who support the intimidation and harassment of the National Assembly by the tyrant will one day need that institution to save them.

The tyrant sanctioned killings of unarmed protesters, you hailed him. He gets emboldened by disobeying Court Orders. Then he begins to crush the opposition, you hailed him. Now, he is crushing Labour Unions, Civil Society Groups & intimidating the press. Next, he will come for you and there will be no one to save you.
