Nairaland GeneralRe: Name One Mistake You've Made In Life So Someone Else Doesn’t Make It by ChiefS(m): 3:00pm On May 31, 2025
franchasng:
Not leaving Nigeria very early in life. I should have been talking about retiring from anything work or business if I had left Nigeria at say 23 years of age.

Not digging gold when I got married. If I had married the politician daughter they recommended and linked me to, I would have been at least a House of Reps member today. But I felt I didn't want to marry someone whose father would be influencing my marriage, that was a huge mistake. If you see such opportunity as a single young man reading this, please grab it fast, all those rubbish mentality I had then was a huge mistake jareh, their influence will not last forever, at most 10 years.

To all single guys reading, whenever you want to marry, please if you see gold dig it very well. Love is a fallacy, don't marry just because of love or physical beauty or any other nonsense reason like big nyash, sex, etc. The girl's parents and family status matters a lot, if you think you dont need it now, you will need it tomorrow. Look at Ebuka Obi, he dug his gold perfectly by going for Young Shall Grow Motor's owner daughter. Even if Ebuka likes today he can squander all his wealth, his father-in-law's wealth will still keep his children wealthy for life because Young Shall Grow will definitely will a lot of assets to his daughter, Ebuka's wife and even her kids, I will do same for my daughter and her kids.

And to the young graduates still claiming Nigeria will favor me, continue deceiving yourself, your parents said the same thing, all the wealthiest Nigerians you see today once migrated abroad or lived abroad, majority of them, so if you see any opportunity to leave Nigeria, do so fast, the earlier the better for you. Leave fast, work, save, invest back in Nigeria via real estate, hotels, nightclubs, lounges, gym centers, avoid rentage building investment.

Also look for a trusted relative or friend, there is always one or two trusted relative or friend that wont rip you off, work with him or her, leverage on the two locations you know; the developed country you live and Nigeria by buying used things there, load in a container, add some tokunbo cars and send to Nigeria to resell....over time hire or rent or build a warehouse in a good city location, so you will be known for that and you will be sending these used items with container on regular basis and you have carved out a business niche for yourself to keep you busy when you decide to retire back in Nigeria.
Very frank truth which may be difficult to comprehend if the reader is less than 50 years. When you are young you think the opportunities will always be there. As one gets older you realize that the opportunities get thinner. This life, the more you look the less you see. Only extremely few people have genuine love for you. So when you marry, open your eyes very well!!!!
FamilyRe: As A Married Man How Much Do You Spend On Your Family Every Month? by ChiefS(m): 3:32pm On May 26, 2025
Juliearth:
We are truly in hard times. Sir, if you can squeeze out a budget of 1 million and buy all the dry ingredients in bulk. Thus, monthly, you would spend less than 50k on perishables.

You could buy Rice in bags, meats in bulk (half cow, full goat, etc)
Bulk shopping for 6 months saves cost.
If you have dependent in-laws they will finish it for you in one month.

Need I also say that a scale of preference needs to be drafted out and implemented. If I had a family, we would go minimal on cereals because those are actually poisonous to our bodies. That can be replaced with healthier alternatives.
RomanceRe: I'm Dating An 18 Year Old Girl And I'm 33. Is The Age Gap Too Much? by ChiefS(m):
pansophist:
The age gap is not the issue, its the maturity.

For example, a man of 45 years can marry a woman of 30 years old and no one with see it as abnormal.

So the difference between an 18 years old girl and a 33 years old man is her maturity, and the consent of those who loves her, such as her guardians.

This is the kind of situation where arranged marriage is very important, because the responsibilities of vetting you properly is not something the 18 years old girl is matured or experienced enough to do herself.

With such maturity gap, there is a risk that an irresponsible man will find it easy to manipulate and marry a naive girl who lack the life experience to hold him accountable on anything, especially when it comes to providing and treating her good.

So if you must marry her, make sure it includes traditional marriage, which will involves all her family members, and their participation is an evidence to the approval of your union.

So not just court marriage that involves few people which you can recruit yourself.
There is a strong relationship between age and maturity. While there can be exceptions to the rule, it is expected that the man should have a high level of tolerance and maturity to manage the age gap if he truly wants to enjoy the marriage. Teenagers will be teenagers!!!! You can't expect them to have the same level of maturity as 30-year-olds.

The woman now looks fat older than the man. That man can get an 18years old girl if he wishes.

The point is, women age faster than men. those oloshos and hookup girls waiting to reap where they did not sow will understand what life is when they've passed their prime
Not in all cases do women look older than the man. These days some women no longer look older oooo.

Nigerians at that time were not materialistic .not desperate to drive flashy cars because they were satisfied with what they have.. mobile phones did not come out at that time .. even if people did not have money to buy milk drinking tea without milk.. people were still happy with that and contended and not complaining...if it's now many people will prefer to go and steal.milk.or money inorder to buy milk for the tea..
But those days people will.not steal.money to buy milk inorder to drink tea

The idea that after marriage you delay child birth is risky as the kids may never come when you now want them. Marriage cannot stop success. The early stages of marriage may slow down somethings but with the right focus and determination, you will get there.

Am not in support of his retirement and because am an insider in the ministry, I cannot not tell you the full details for the action , both Oyedepo and Abioye know me by my name and I love them, but God who call Abraham at 75 years and call Moses at 80 years and both men still became very successful, I pray same God will make Abioye very successful and if he open his ministry branch in Lagos or Canada am going to be one of the first members
Abraham lived for 175 years so he still lived another 100 years after receiving his call at 75 years. Who lives for that long in our dispensation? I know Bishop Abioye is made and will succeed in whatever he begins now but you know the limitations of age.
Christianity EtcRe: Bishop Abioye's Absence At This Year Shiloh Is Deeply Felt By Me. by ChiefS(m): 5:18pm On Dec 11, 2024
Arrowhead71:
you don’t know anything, Oyedepo raised so many pastors as fire brand ,who later left for another ministry, Abioye is also good, but to say he is the only one who gave winners positive outlook is overstated, the Anointing flow from the head to the garment, without Oyedepo there is no way you would have met Abioye and that is how the story and history will be remembered, do you know pastor Simeon Afolabi, he pioneered Lagos branch 1991, when he is preaching both Oyedepo and Abioye sat and took notes because of the depth of his insight but that does not make him the positive image or whatever you called it , and when Simeon Afolabi left in 1994 despite all persuasions against it , it hurt Oyedepo, but the church still exploded into world biggest and prosperous, as long as the visionary is alive in God , who left or stay does not change God promise to the ministry
The reason people are complaining is that Bishop Abioye served winners almost all his adult life. At 63 years where do you want him to start from. 63 years is still young in ministry to retire but almost late to start afresh
PoliticsRe: Fire At Broadcasting House, Ikoyi by ChiefS(m): 6:06am On Nov 28, 2024
naptu2:
Broadcasting House, Ikoyi is a historically significant complex on Ikoyi Road in Old Ikoyi. It is called Broadcasting House, but it is actually a complex of many buildings.

Broadcasting House, Ikoyi was established in 1950 when the Radio Redifusion Service became the Nigerian Broadcasting Service (NBS), later known as the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).

Professor Wole Soyinka, Professor Chinua Achebe, Cyprian Ekwensi, Uche Chukwumerije and other famous personalities worked here in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Wole Soyinka said that he hated the Lagos traffic, so he used to drive to Unilag and then take a canoe to Broadcasting House and then a canoe back to Unilag when he had finished for the day.

This complex became a heavily militarised complex from the 1970s till 1999. I saw main battle tanks and armoured fighting vehicles in the compound. There was a machine gun nest beside the gate (there was a square hole in the wall of the gatehouse and it was surrounded by bags of sand and covered with camouflage nets. There was a general purpose machine gun in the hole). The soldiers used to maltreat Radio Nigeria workers.

The coupists placed soldiers in this complex during the January 1966 coup, but Ironsi later appeared at the complex and changed the soldiers.

Joseph Garba made his coup speech from this complex in 1975 and one of the soldiers told him that he was worried because there weren't enough soldiers at the complex. He needn't have been worried. Broadcasting House is opposite State House, Dodan Barracks and Ibrahim Babangida had surrounded Dodan Barracks with tanks.

General Murtala Muhammed was killed near this complex and Dimka walked to the complex on foot to make his coup speech. General T.Y. Danjuma sent Ibrahim Babangida to remove Dimka from Broadcasting House and he was angry that Babangida said that he had spoken to Dimka. He ordered Babangida to blow down the radio station if necessary, but he must stop Dimka's speech from being broadcast on the airwaves (Babangida did not want to harm the staff of the radio station, that's why he chose to talk to Dimka, rather than attack the complex). Dimka was eventually flushed out after a firefight.

Sani Abacha and Joshua Dogonyaro also made their coup speeches from here in 1983 and 1985.

Broadcasting House is not too far from my former house and I was woken in the middle of the night by loud explosions on April 22nd, 1990. Coupists had used the armoured vehicles at Broadcasting House to attack Dodan Barracks. It was from this complex that Gideon Orkar made his coup speech and Sani Abacha made his counter speech (after Brigadier Ishaya Bamaiyi had recaptured the complex).

A nightly curfew was declared on Ikoyi Road after that coup. Soldiers would seal off the road from 6pm till 6am. Some people that I know refused to heed my warning that they should go home early back in 1997. They got Okada riders to take them to Obalende around 6pm. They were able to get onto Ikoyi Road, but soldiers at the Obalende end stopped them and told them to walk back to Ikoyi on their knees.

Broadcasting House, Ikoyi was the headquarters of the NBC, later FRCN from 1950 till the mid 1990s when the headquarters moved to Abuja.

President Obasanjo appointed Dr Eddie Iroh as the director general of the Federal Radio Corporation (FRCN) in 1999 and he said that he got his greatest pleasure by ordering the soldiers to pack their equipment and leave the complex.

Broadcasting House, Ikoyi was the home of Radio Nigeria 1 (now Radio One). Radio Nigeria 2 (now Metro FM) was started here in 1979, but it moved to Martins Street shortly afterwards. It moved back to this place after the Martims Street station burnt down in the 1990s. Radio Nigeria 3 (now Bond FM) was started here in 1989.

Yes, this is the same complex from which legends like:

Dr Christopher Kolade
Ikenna Ndaguba
Princess Banke Ademola

Sonny Irabor, Joseph Akinyemi Johnson (J.A.J), Boniface Onogwu, Vin-Martin Ilo, Momoh Kubanje, Willy Egbe, Ohi Alegbe, Jones Usen, Ihria Enakhimio, Aloma Nwogbe, Godwin Asuquo, Ndidi Osaka, Femi Sowoolu, Phil Ushie, Jim Lawson Maduike, Ohi Alegbe, Femi Sowoolu, Ihria Enakhimio, Zachary Mohamed (Captain ZM), Manny Onumonu, Evelyn Russell, Veronica Osawere, John Chukwu, Emeka Odikpo, Ernest Okonkwo, etc. spoke to Nigeria.

In fact, Dr Kolade was trapped in Broadcasting House during Dimka’s coup.
Thanks for this rich historical perspective. I remember those broadcast legends as a child.

RomanceRe: Before You Marry A Man 20 Years Older... by ChiefS(m): 4:00pm On Nov 07, 2024
bestman09:
Marriage is complex. I know someone who married his age mate and they are living happily while another buddy is always fighting with his wife because she doesn't respect him because they are the same age. However, it is always better for the man to be older than the wife with 5-10 years as the wife will give him more respect, all things being equal!

Just make sure you have lots of money as a man in NIGERIA and the wife will always respect you, no matter the age difference!
Which one be more respect? If a woman respects you she respects you. Being older by 5 or 10 years won't increase the respect. I know women who disrespect their husbands despite the 5 - 10 years age gap.
