It's important we all stay safe.....But the way covid 19 avoids poor people needs to be investigated

Poor people rarely go to hospital and often die of unknown causes. In the past 6 months close I know more than 5 people have died in my street. Some died while being rushed to hospital. Poor man's death is no news.

The actual figures are far above that. Our saving grace is that more than 90% of people infected recover with minimal medical intervention. It's the unfortunate few that are severe are the ones mostly captured. Except the big men who go for testing frequently most of the masses don't go until their case gets severe.

One question that is still begging for answer is, does it mean the the PTF on covid-19 don't run test in Kogi State. Because i find it difficult to believe that Kogi State is with lesser cases.

The state government has refused to test. Infected cases can only be found by testing and not by assumptions.

If you know the number of businesses that has gone down, the number of secondary death from the lockdown, you won’t be saying this.

Simple preventive measures like hand washing will not only prevent infection from COVID-19, but also other diseases. It is a refusal of most people to observe these guidelines that will lead to widespread infection and eventual lockdown. Simple compliance to Covid-19 protocols does not lead to closure of businesses. Many people shouting scam have lost relations to Covid-19 without knowing it. It costs little to observe these guidelines. Prevention is always better than cure. The Government gains nothing when you wash your hands or wear face mask.

The army general that died from COVID-19 complications died less than 2 weeks after burying the mother in Kogi. The simple reason is that they have refused to test and when people die, they accept it as an act of God.

The last time I checked, Nigeria's first lady Aisha Buhari and her children have been out of Nigeria for over 5 months now.

Tinubu's children mostly live abroad and only come back to Nigeria to milk the cow their father kept in the name of Lagos state.


Saraki children all live abroad.


Osinbajo's children are abroad.


Atiku Abubakar's children are abroad.


Almost all Nigerian senators, Governors and Ministers' children are all living abroad including popular Lagos agbero MC Oluomo's children, you can imagine that yet some fools keep telling unemployed, jobless Nigerians in Nigeria not to relocate but wait and die hungry, dejected in Nigeria, na Amadioha joined with Sango go fire all of una for there!




Please dear Nigerian youths, if you are not earning up to 250,000naira monthly income as a single person or 400,000naira as a married person, please if you see any legal opportunity to leave Nigeria to a better nation like Canada, US, UK, Australia, Germany, France, Korea, etc, please leave asap!!!


Nigeria and all West African or black nations can only get worst by the day, it is their destiny.

His professional colleagues who remained are the Big boys and TV owners in the media. So everyone's destiny is not the same. I totally agree with you.

Overcomer has a positive connotation. It means same thing as victor. Such names are often given from challenges the parents went through during pregnancy and delivery. Although, some parents go to the extreme to give terrible names

It’s well! No panic, 90K since Covid started for Naija while UK had ~55K for today only. The only issue is that Naija cases have no trend, NCDC just de dish out numbers as they wish.

The reason Naija cases have no trend is that many of the states are not testing apart from Lagos, Abuja and 2 or 3 other states. Many other states occasionally test few samples which will not show a trend. If you need a trend, isolate Lagos and Abuja and study the trend.

As I have always maintained only a minute fraction of those infected eventually die from the disease in Nigeria (< 5%). Worse still cause of most deaths in Nigeria is unknown due to various reasons. While I may not be in a position to verify the authenticity the story, we can't just discredit the post. We should avoid being overly subjective in our reasoning or living in denial when such issues are raised.

Covid-19 Lockdown: Kogi Overtakes Lagos in Investments, NIPC

Do you remember when Governor Yahaya Bello said this in May 2020?

"If basic livelihoods cannot be sustained, poor people will prefer the loitery of infections over the certainty of starvation"

Do you also remember when Governor Yahaya Bello said this in June 2020?

"Why lockdown our economy over a disease that has 99.9% recovery rate? The effects of lockdown on the country far supersedes the gain".

Fast forward to this day, December 2020, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) has just reported that Kogi state has overtaken all states in the Federation including Lagos, to become Nigeria's top Investments destination for the third quarter of year 2020.

Recall that earlier this year, all states in Nigeria locked down their economies and closed businesses causing a drastic fall in IGR, unemployment and total economic shut down, with the 2nd recession in 5years and worst in over 30years.

Kogi State was the only state that didn't experience Lockdown.

What is the story today?
Kogi has moved from a middle position to become first amongst all states in Nigeria as the number one investment hub.

The drop in Investments across other states has been attributed to the impact of COVID-19 and its global economic impact.

So, Yahaya Bello allowed Kogi's economy to continue to flow and refused to lockdown. But other states allowed lockdown and Kogi has overtaken everybody in investments

The Commission publishes NIPC Intelligence Newsletter 6 days a week, and through it, a total of 13 projects across 8 states were tracked. 3 of the investment announcements were start-up enterprises in health care delivery, and information and communication technology (software development).

Kogi State received the largest share of the investments announced with US$1 billion, followed by Lagos State with US$239 million, Ogun State with US$75 million and Cross Rivers State with US$15 million.

On a sector basis, the top destinations were the transportation sector which received (66%), manufacturing (27%) while information and communication, and mining and quarrying received 3% and 2% respectively. Other sectors, agriculture, and human health and social services collectively accounted for the remaining 2%.

NIPC’s Intelligence Newsletter publishes Nigerian investment-related news culled, from various sources. It is also reported that there is a 57% fall in these Investments across the country compared with the 2019 report.
While for Kogi, it is an incredibly increase in Investments.

Gov. Yahaya Bello predicted the downfall of our economy with the lockdown imposed, now it's obvious what he warned Nigerians about.

The Report gives a sense of investors’ interest in the Nigerian economy. NIPC did not independently verify the authenticity of the investment announcements but is working on tracking the announcements as they progress to actual investments.

Half-truth. While I agree that we have some terribly poor graduates, many are not as bad as he has painted. Primary and Secondary school education are the most important and critical levels of education. Because the foundations at these levels are very faulty, there's little that can be corrected at the University level. Especially with the level of examinations malpractices that go on in WAEC, NECO and JAMB exams, there's little the Universities can do. University education anywhere in the world is hinged on independent study with the lecturers being facilitators of knowledge. It is not the duty of an Engineering Thermodynamics lecturer to teach his students how to write letters. The truth is that Universities are not meant for everyone. That's why we have technical colleges, Polytechnics and Colleges of education. But in Nigeria everyone wants to be called a university graduate. A 300 level student wrote a formal letter and didn't even know where to sign.
Various stakeholders in the education sector share their own part of the blame. We need to de-emphasize on certificates and focus more on capacity.

The coaches are complicit. They should be able to identify those above 17 before MRI screening with minimal error. The quest to succeed by all means is killing football development. They should go to secondary schools round the country and get players within the age limits and stop deceiving themselves. How can an NPFL player be under-17?

There Is A Simple Solution To Coronavirus.

The virus no dey show for face. The symptoms are similar to malaria. Quite a number of people have been infected and recovered without knowing. Even the severe cases may have been misdiagnosed as malaria. IT also acts as a catalyst leading to death of those with underlying conditions with the underlying conditions considered to be the cause of death.

When there's no thorough screening at the airports what do you expect? When less that 2% of the population wear facemasks and adhere to non-pharmaceutical guidelines what do you expect? The truth is that as far as we are not screening travellers thoroughly they will bring the virus into the country. Those infected by travellers will also spread the virus due to the general complacency of the entire population. This is both science and common sense. Since most infected persons are asymptomatic, we feel the virus is not here. The unfortunate less than 1% of the population that eventually dies from the disease makes it difficult for the population to believe the virus truly exists in the country. The reason for all these conspiracy theories.

When government has not fulfilled its own part of the agreements? This government lacks credibility. What's the essence of telling lies that everyone would discover to be untrue?

Half-truth. While some companies don't give 2.2 graduates a chance, many others still employ 2.2 graduates. The graduate should apply to companies or institutions that employ 2.2 graduates and also upgrade with professional qualifications, relevant skills and postgraduate programs. A young graduate should not despise the days of small beginnings. With perseverance, focus, and God's grace he will eventually succeed. The beginning may truly be tough. Weeping endures for a night but joy comes in the morning.

I am aware of the ASUU's stance on university autonomy, which is great. But, changing the platform of payment of salaries (which is what FG is proposing) does not stop that. It is like an employer stating that he will now pay using Oracle backed platform rather than Microsoft. Now, imagine the employee getting angry because of that.

Yes, lecturers have peculiarities (research allowance, sabbatical, visiting, earned allowance etc) and they are entitled to it. However, it has been shown that IPPIS can cater for those as well. I do not want to disclose where I work or what I do. But, I know quite well that lecturers who registered on IPPIS are being paid these allowances without any issues.
Also, health workers have peculiarities, all of which are captured o. This same IPPIS. They go on sabbatical, visiting, collect call duty allows, are members of co-op societies etc.

Bro. I am a well published researcher, and I know what the costs are like. You were even conservative to an extent for the high impact foreign journals.
As I wrote earlier, they deserve the allowances they get and more. The issue I raised is that these allowances can be catered for on IPPIS as it is being done for other workers with such peculiarities.

As per visiting scholars from foreign universities etc. It can be taken care of.
Healthworkers , particularly doctors go to other hospitals for these things and are captured. Same way, people come from abroad and are taken care of.

IPPIS is a platform, just like UTAS is a platform. Both can be adjusted to fit what you want. After all, they were both made by humans and as the saying goes (na the person wet make pencil also make the eraser).

I had really thought that ASUU will use this opportunity to ask for salary increment and other allowances, rather than fighting over the platform of payment.

As per people taking up visiting. I wish it was only 1 or 2 visits that people take up per month. There are people who visit 4-5 places. I am aware of a department with 6 academic staffs on paper, but only 2 are on ground, all others visit from another place. Meanwhile, this same department has post-grad people looking for jobs. Those 4 people are occupying their spaces.

Thanks for your intelligent response as well. The relationship between ASUU and Government has not been smooth because of the inability of government to honour several agreements in the past. The truth is that Nigerians generally not just ASUU take government's promise with a grain of salt. The last endSARS protest is a typical example. University Autonomy recognises the Governing Council as the employer and each university is supposed to have its own council. If the government is truly sincere, they should modify the platform for the few lecturers that enrolled in IPPIS to capture these peculiarities. The payslip of lecturers on IPPIS does not reflect any modifications to capture these peculiarities. Some lecturers who have been on IPPIS for almost a year are seriously regretting it as everything is muddled up and these allowances are taxed heavily. If the government is not interested in UTAS, why did they give ASUU the go-ahead to develop the software if they knew they had no plans to accept it. Consider the time and resources spent.
The bureaucracy in the civil service can actually kill academics. Due to regulations on TSA, it took me 1 year to buy a software through the Central Bank from abroad for a research work whose timeline was one year. A lecturer was supposed to receive a travel grant sponsored by a foreign government. The money routed through CBN because of TSA the money never came throughout the period of the training abroad between May and July last year. This frustrated the purpose of the training. As I type, he has not received the balance as he was told they had to reprocess the documents due to the inferno at CBN during the lockdown. These are some of the terrible experiences of many lecturers.

While I can't defend lecturers that take up too many visiting positions, the blame lies with the government. ASUU has advised the government to stop the proliferation of universities. We do not have the manpower to support this flagrant proliferation. The present government while in opposition criticised the Jonathan administration for establishing 8 new Federal Universities. Now they have done worse establishing transport university, army university, etc for political reasons instead of expanding facilities in current university. So where will the manpower come from? Some of the new universities especially some private universities are purely glorified secondary schools. Hope things will not get so bad very soon like in one of our neighbouring countries where they have universities that have only one building with Vice chancellors without a PhD.

I also think the salaries should be increased. The salaries of lecturers are extremely poor and not competitive with other African countries.

Even Nebuchadnezzar in ancient times knew how to take care of scholars while in the 21st century we have a government that neither cares for education nor the welfare of scholars.
