Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has felicitated with Nigerians in the New Year and urged them to look forward to 2019 with great optimism and positive possibilities.

Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement in Abuja, while welcoming Nigerians into the New Year and made available to Naija Politico

He said that President Muhammadu Buhari was poised to lead in establishing the Nigeria of “our dreams’’ in the year.

The APC spokesman further added that the party was committed to good governance and a participatory democracy which allows for peaceful, free, fair, credible and transparent elections.

He appealed to Nigerians to reflect on progress made by the APC-led administration in the last three and half years as they enter the new year.

“On this joyous occasion, let us reflect on the tremendous progress we have made as a nation in the last three and half years.

“The significant leap towards recovering our country from the abyss would become obvious when we look back at the precarious state our country was in 2015 due to the preceding 16 years of irresponsible leadership,”he sad.

Issa-Onilu added that it was heartwarming to note that Nigeria had now turned the corner, moving away from the years of waste towards a stable and prosperous future.

He stressed that as citizens, we must play our part by continuing to support ongoing efforts by the President Muhammad Buhari-led administration to rebuild the country.

He added that the 2019 forthcoming general elections provides us great opportunity to consolidate on the progress we had made together as a country under the APC administration.

He reiterated the party’s stand that candidates that should be elected at all levels must be those that could pass the integrity test.

He further said that party candidates for elective positions should also be adjudged to be above board in positions of responsibility they held in the past.

Issa-Onilu added that the APC NEXT LEVEL campaign provided a clear roadmap to further deliver on its promises and the change agenda which was largely harped on fighting corruption, improving the economy and tackling insecurity.

“As a nation, we urge all to kick against unpatriotic practices such as hate campaign, spurious and unsubstantiated allegations,”the APC spokesman said.

According to him, such deliberate inciting statements are directed at critical state institutions and public officials by the desperate leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He maintained that as a progressive party, the APC remains committed to deepening internal party democracy, unity and cohesion to provide a strong and united political platform.

This, he said, was critical to ensure the success of the party’s change agenda at the Federal, State and local levels.

“We must shun divisive elements in our private and public spaces who exploit sentiments to sell hate and intolerance amongst us in the name of religion, politics and other leanings.

“Despite our perceived differences, our strength remains in our diversity,” Issa-Onilu said.

The Zamfara Government has donated N8.5 million to families of five killed and some Nigerien soldiers injured by bandits during a joint operation with Nigerian troops.

The soldiers who were on a joint operation with their Nigerian counterpart were ambushed by bandits at Dumburum forest in Zurmi Local Government area of the state.

Naija Politico reports that the incident happened when the criminals laid ambush against the soldiers during which five of the Nigeriens were killed.

The items were presented to officials of the Government of Niger Republic by Gov. Abdul Azeez Yari on Monday when he visited Maradi to commiserate with the Nigerien government and families of the victims.

Yari was received by the Nigerien Minister of Defence, Alhaji Kalla Muktari, Governocr of Maradi State, Alhaji Zakiri Umar and other Niger Government officials.

Yari said the donation was to support their families.

Naija Politico further reports that each of the five families of the deceased soldiers would be given One million Naira; N500,000 would be presented to each of the five injured soldiers while N1 million would be given to the Commander of the soldiers who was also injured during the incident, ” he said.

He described the incident as unfortunate and prayed to Almighty Allah to give their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

He pledged to sustain the long and good relationship between Nigeria and Niger Republic, particularly between Zamfara and Maradi states.

He said the collaboration between Nigeria and Niger Republic, especially in tackling insecurity, was necessary and should be improved.

“We will cooperate and work together to ensure effective inter-border security to protect the lives and properties of our people, “he said.

Responding, the Governor of Maradi State, Alhaji Umaru Zakari, thanked the Zamfara Government for the visit and described it as timely and a welcome development.

He said Maradi had a long existing good relationship with Zamfara.

“We will continue and work with Zamfara State, particularly in the areas of security and border control,” he said.

Naija Politico also reports the governor and his entorage attended the funeral prayer for the Nigerien soldiers.

Dear compatriots,

It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country.

At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God.

We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

The dawn of a New Year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events.

2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders into various offices, at national and state levels.

As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible.

Elections need not be do or die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed to peace, and peace we shall have.

Those who continue to trumpet falsehood and negativity are on their own, fighting a losing battle. The greater number of Nigerians are trusting and believing that we shall deliver on our promises for a level playing field at the polls, and that is what we shall do.

Nigerians desire peace, security, prosperity, inclusiveness and infrastructural development, a nation they can be proud of, a country that can hold its own among the nations.

That is the journey we have embarked on since we came onboard in 2015, and we are not distracted as we move on. We are resolved to build a country in which the resources are utilized for the benefit of the largest number, and not appropriated by a privileged few in their never ending quest to satisfy their greed. We are on this mission together, and I assure you of a firm commitment to the ideals of a safe, secure, fair, just and prosperous country.

We have had our challenges: security, economic, political, social. But we are resolved to combat and overcome them all.

I appreciate your support and collaboration in previous years, and look forward to same in 2019, and beyond, as I hope you will renew the mandate you overwhelmingly gave us in 2015, for another term.

We are motivated by nothing other than service to motherland, and service without selfishness or personal interest.

I can assure you all that we are making steady and sustainable progress in all areas of national life. Those who are unbiased can see and appreciate the progress the country has made since 2015.

A New Year provides opportunity for renewal of commitment, and I invite you to rededicate yourselves to the vision of a Nigeria that works for all.

We are moving from potentials to actualization, and it’s a task to be accomplished by us all; man, woman, young, old, military, civilian, all Nigerians.

The APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is building on a new foundation for the youths and elderly people of Nigeria.

At the flag-off of President Muhammadu Buhari campaign in Uyo, he urged the Nigerians to vote for their future.

Tinubu explained that for 16 years, PDP built Nigeria on a foundation of corruption, underdevelopment and darkness.

He said that APC was re-directing Nigeria and committed to diversify the economy.

The former Lagos state governor said that APC came into power at the time Nigerians needed change from corruption, change from ineptitude, change from laziness.

Adams Oshiomhole, APC National Chairman, in his short speech reported that in the last 48 hours, the PDP has been trying smear the character of President Buhari but explained that Nigerians “know who Buhari is and know who PDP is’’.

“PDP’s Presidential candidate cannot speak in some parts of the world but Buhari will,’’ he said.

The disagreement between the cartels that are involved in illegal mining in Zamfara is responsible for the lingering crisis and killings in Zamfara State Naija Politico learnt.

Mr Dennis Amachree, a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), said: “ There are cartels there and most of the fighting you see there are fights between different cartels.”

He said that illegal mining of mineral resources was main cause of the violence in the state.

In Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, he said: “The disagreements between the cartels were taking a toll on the state, resulting in the death of innocent people.’’

“Many people don’t know; what we see is fighting, killing, and all the rest. But the undermining issue there is the illegal mining – illegal mining of minerals.

“It think we have a serious problem in Zamfara and I think it’s basically a lack of governance.

“I can tell you, the kind of money that is coming out of the illegal mining is more than what oil is giving us today.”

He regretted that despite the security reports forwarded to government authorities in the state by intelligence agencies, the situation was worsening.

According to him, the present issue of illegal mining in the state is escalating and it involves a lot of people, including some foreigners.

The security expert described the situation as “a big market” in which natural resources such as gold and diamond were carted out of the country illegally.

“I have personal experiences where minerals are being carted out of this country without any control,” Amachree said.

Scores of people – including residents, bandits, and security officials – have lost their lives this year as a result of the activities of the criminal elements.

The Delta Government has announced a N10 million fine for sponsors and guarantors of pilgrims in the state whose candidates abscond during pilgrimage.

The state Commissioner for the Bureau for Special Duties, Mr Ernest Ogwezzy, said this on Wednesday in Asaba while speaking with Naija Politico shortly after a one-day orientation workshop for the 2018 intending pilgrims to the Holy land.

Ogwezzy said that the N10 million fine was part of the stringent measures adopted by the state government to check incidences of absconment during pilgrimages.

He said such measures had become imperative following ugly experiences where some individuals under the guise of embarking on holy exercise end up absconding.

“The experience is gradually worsening the already battered image of the country abroad,’’ he said.

Ogwezzy also said that greater percentage of those who absconded in the state in the previous years were not indigenes of the state, “ but are part of the contingent of the state.’’

The commissioner had earlier congratulated those who were successful during the screening and urged them to uphold the sanctity of their Christian faith by remaining good ambassadors of the state and country at large.

Ogwezzy also advised them to avoid any occurrence that was capable of tarnishing the image of the state and country.

He urged them to use the opportunity to review their spiritual lives as well as pray for the peace and unity of the state and country.

The commissioner assured the pilgrims that the state government would continue to prioritise the sponsorship of pilgrimages in the state irrespective of the prevailing economic crunch.

A group of 40 American millennials has embarked on a trip to Nigeria to experience first-hand, the limitless opportunities of the country.

The Director of Discover Gidi, organisers of the annual trip to Nigeria, Mr Ugo Obilo, told Naija Politico in New York that the group would be in Nigeria from Thursday to Jan. 2. 2019.

According to him, Nigeria has limitless opportunities for the millennial, aiming to have a great time, adding the trip will increase the number of people that have been to Nigeria.

Obilo said: “We wanted to give them the opportunity to enjoy more of that in different ways with their friends, to see different things culturally.

“As we started promoting things, a lot of non-Nigerians wanted to come as well. We started out because a lot of young Nigerians are not excited to go back to Nigeria.

“So we wanted to give them the opportunity to go back with young crowd and enjoy and see Nigeria in a new way so that we can generate excitement about it again.

“This is because our generation needs to be the one that is giving back to the community, being able to fund the economy in different ways.

“But to our surprise, a lot of non-Nigerian millennials decided that they wanted to visit and travel there as well.”

According to him, when the 2017 group visited Nigeria, it was made up of half Nigerians and half non-Nigerians and they had a very good time and enjoyed themselves.

Obilo said in 2018, when the organisers started promoting the trip, it was overwhelming that a lot of non-Nigerians wanted to come and see and experience Nigerian culture first-hand.



“So we have about 40 people coming this year. Mostly, they are people that have never been to Nigeria, non-Nigerians themselves.

“We have a well-structured itinerary, a good balance being able to see the culture, enjoy Nigerian nightlife, being able to see a lot of the historical aspects of the country as well.

“We intend to go to the Badagry Slave Port, we’re going to have a cultural night at Terra Cotta, they are doing a Language Lesson, we have a day to go to the beach and enjoy.

“We’re going to Nike Art Gallery, we’re going to Lekki Conservation Centre, we’re going to different places on the Island to see the beaches in the Victoria Island, and a service day on the mainland.”

He said the participants would also have a naming ceremony where each of them would elect to receive a traditional Nigerian name.

According to him, the idea is an effort to afford people of all backgrounds and nationalities the opportunity to experience the beauty of the African Diaspora.

“Out of necessity, we wanted to change the conversation and eliminate reservations individuals have regarding travelling to Africa and African cities.

“As a Nigerian, I wanted to be at the forefront of a movement that would encourage my peers to not only travel to Nigeria, but also lead them to invest in Nigeria’s future,” he said.

Obilo said the annual trip was named ‘Discover Gidi’ as a literal ode to the pre-existing beauty of Nigeria and Lagos, adding, the mission is to allow others to discover the beauty that Nigeria has to offer.

According to him, the trip sets out to appeal specifically to Nigerian-Americans looking to travel home in a curated group-trip format.

HR said there had been an influx of non-Nigerians particularly, millennials of different backgrounds, who wanted to see and experience Nigeria for the first time.

The Nigerian Police Force(NPF) has described as fake news the story about 167 policemen absconding from duties on the Boko Haram frontline in Nigeria’s north east.

Naija Politico learnt that the police said all the 2000 Policemen deployed to the region have all reported and are on ground for combat operation in the region, fighting alongside the Military.

Contrary to the fake news report, the men are in high morale and high spirit in the operation.

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a story by Premium Times Online media, captioned “167 POLICE OFFICERS ABSCOND FROM DEPLOYMENT AGAINST BOKO HARAM (FULL LIST)”.

2. The Force wishes to categorically state that the story is untrue, absolute falsehood and a deliberate attempt to cast aspersions on the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.

3. The insinuation in some quarters and as reported in the story that 167 out the 2000 additional Police Officers recently deployed by the IGP absconded is not correct and should be disregarded by members of the public. These 2000 Police personnel are to complement the efforts of the Military to add new impetus to the fight against the decimated Boko Haram insurgency.

4. This story was investigated and it was found out not to be correct, there is no reason whatsoever that Police personnel deployed for the operations in the North East would abscond. The Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel have been engaged actively in the front line along with the Military in the fight against Boko Haram terrorist group since the inception of the insurgency.

5. These 2000 Police Officers recently deployed are in addition to several thousands of Police Personnel already engaged in the fight against insurgency with the Military in the North East. The list of 167 names attached to the story is fake as the Officers mentioned are on ground in the North East.

6. The 2000 police personnel deployed are in high morale and high spirit in the operation, the Force sees the story as a deliberate attempt to promote insurgency and dapple the morale of Officers and Men of the Police and other services who on daily basis lay down their lives to protect our dear Nation, Nigeria and ensure security of all citizenry.

7. Members of the public are hereby implored to disregard the story in its entirety as a pure misinformation and hearsay.

8. It is evidently clear that the writer of the story has never visited the venue of training or witness the deployment of the Police personnel in the operation but rely ignorantly on hearsay from misguided individuals who are being used to work against national interest and security.

The Nigeria Police Force will continue to hold the media in a very high regard as a veritable partner in ensuring adequate security and success of the fight against insurgency, however, the media are implored not allow their esteemed publication be used publish falsehood capable of misinforming and misleading the public.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has seized and destroyed more than 30 trailer loads of beer.

The board’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Adamu Yahaya, disclosed this in a statement in Kano on Tuesday which was made available to Naija Politico.

According to Mr Joseph Peter, a distributor in Abuja, a trailer load of beer costs between N5.2 million and N5.5 million. This bring the total worth of the beer destroyed to over N150 million.

Yahaya said that the cartons of beer were destroyed on Monday evening after interception at Kalebawa on Danbata Road in Dawakin Tofa area.

“The Kano State Law No. 4 of 2004 has banned the manufacture and use of intoxicants in the state.
“
Furthermore, an order was given by a magistrates’ court for us to go ahead with the exercise,” the public relations officer said.

Yahaya warned those selling beer to stay within their limits.

He appealed to members of the public to be of good conduct and be one another’s keeper.

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Tuesday announced the appointment of top civil servants as the Coordinating Directors for the 16 local government councils in the state.

Naija Politico learnt that the appointments came barely a week after the State House of Assembly suspended indefinitely placed all the elected council chairmen in the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode said the appointments took immediate effect.

He said that the elected council chairmen were suspended over allegations of maladministration and corruption.

According to him, the ‘Coordinating Directors’ are to oversee the affairs in the councils.

The Naija Politico (Naija Politico) reports that all the appointees were drawn from the services of the various local governments as well as the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).

President Muhammadu Buhari, who is due to open his re-election campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Friday, said it will focus on the scorecard of his administration in the key areas of security, economy and anti- corruption.

Buhari spoke today at a Christmas Homage by residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) led by the Minister, Mohammed Bello.

President Buhari said the three overarching issues were still as relevant to the country as it was before the 2015 polls that brought the APC-led government to power.

‘‘Very soon we will go to the geo-political zones to remind the people of our promises in 2015 on three fundamental things: security, economy and the fight against corruption.

‘‘Unless we secure the country, we cannot manage it properly… that is why shortly after I was elected, I went to Chad, Niger, Cameroon and the Republic of Benin to seek their support in the fight against the insurgency.

‘‘People in the North East know that we have recorded remarkable improvement in the fight against Boko Haram,’’ he said.

President Buhari also used the occasion to reassure Nigerians that his administration remains committed to tackling kidnapping and banditry in addition to finding a lasting solution to the conflict between herders and sedentary farmers.

President Buhari told the gathering, comprising religious, political and traditional leaders in the FCT that his administration has done more work with less resources in agriculture, infrastructure and social investments, considering the state of the economy it inherited from the previous administration.

On agriculture, President Buhari said he remained grateful to God for the bumper harvests experienced by farmers in different parts of the country in 2016, 2017 and 2018 despite devastating floods.

‘‘I am very happy that all the people who returned to agriculture have not regretted it,’’ he said.

On the fight against corruption, the President pledged that he will continue to do his best to recover what rightly belongs to Nigeria, guided by the rule of law and respect for constituted authority.

The President jocularly said people were calling him ‘‘Baba Go Slow’’ because he had jettisoned the military way of fighting corruption and opted for due process under a constitutional democracy.

‘‘When I was going fast I was arrested so why should I go fast again. It is not Baba that is slow it is the system. So whatever the case I will not stop pointing fingers at those who have illegally abused trust by taking [public] funds entrusted to them,’’ he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister while congratulating the President for an eventful year with remarkable achievements, said: ‘‘we in the FCT are your flock and we know you will continue to lead us to the Promised Land.’’

On his part, the Primate, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, who spoke on behalf of the Christian community, thanked God for sustaining the President with good health.

The Anglican Primate urged political and religious leaders in the country to take a cue from the FCT and replicate the religious harmony between Christians and Muslims.

The Buhari Presidency has warned political appointees, government officials and party men against influence peddling for corrupt pecuniary gains and other forms of extortion.

Naija Politico learnt that Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, told State House Correspondents Tuesday in Abuja that complaints of extortions of innocent people by what he called “self-serving name droppers and influence peddlers” is causing increasing embarrassment to the Presidency.

According to Shehu, “President Buhari had made it very clear since his inauguration that he won’t tolerate any form of impropriety by his appointees, aides, and government officials who abuse and misuse their offices for illegal financial advantages.”

The media aide explained that using one’s office or influence for private advantage or financial gains is corruption, warning that “the President would not tolerate any conduct by anybody to use his name to extort innocent people.”

He stressed that President Buhari’s commitment to the fight corruption at all fronts in his government remains unchanged, adding that “those who are not genuinely committed to this vision would be weeded out once caught and punished accordingly.”

The media aide advised Nigerians to report any government official or appointees using the President’s name or that of his aides and appointees to extort the public, adding that the current zero tolerance for corruption by the Buhari administration won’t condone this repugnant culture in government or public business.

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has urged Nigerians to seize the symbolic occasion of Christmas to extend acts of love and kindness to all especially to the less privileged.

Naija Politico learnt that Ambode made the appeal in his Christmas message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna.

He said the qualities that Jesus Christ represents, which include love, care, selflessness and compassion for persons, especially the weak, vulnerable and less-privileged was the real essence of the season.

He added that his message to everyone at this period was to put a smile on the faces of persons who cannot afford to return the favour.

“Christmas is a season that explains the depth of God’s love for mankind and exemplary sacrifice that we should emulate in our relationship with our neighbours irrespective of status and creed. This season is another opportunity to increase our acts of kindness and touch the less privileged in our society.

President Muhammadu Buhari, will on Friday, 28 December flag off his campaign for second term bid in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom.

Sen. Ita Enang, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) made the disclosure on Monday while briefing newsmen in Uyo.

Enang said that the President would be in the state with National Chairman of the party Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and national leaders of the party.

He said that the party would use the opportunity to formally present the party’s flag to APC gubernatorial candidates of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Delta respectively.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and 2019 Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress candidate will be in Akwa Ibom on December 28 to flag off the 2019 campaign of the APC.

“He will be coming with the National Chairman of the party and the National leaders of the party. The sitting governors of the party and other governorship candidate of the party

“He will be here to formally launch his campaign and flag off the 2019 Presidential election campaign, “Enang said.

According to him, the campaign will kick off in Akwa Ibom because the state has accepted the President fully and the state is ripe for harvest by the party.

The Presidential Aide also revealed that the party has requested from Akwa Ibom Government permission to use the Akpabio International Stadium.

The Akwa Ibom Government has approved the use of the stadium, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Monday Uko, has said.

Uko told newsmen in Uyo on Monday, adding that the approval became necessary following the decision by Julius Berger Plc. to recall its staff from their scheduled holiday.

“Following a decision by Julius Berger Plc to recall their staff from their scheduled holiday, the Akwa Ibom Government approved the use of the Nest of Champions Stadium, Uyo for President Muhammadu Buhari’s rally on December 28.

Uko added that all the terms stipulated by government for the use of the facility would be enforced.

Naija Politico (Naija Politico) recalls that the state government had on December 23 issued a statement that it would not approve the use of the stadium for the presidential rally due to the Nigeria Premier League matches billed to be played at the stadium, when the competition begins next year.

Said Enang: “It is public facility, a collective heritage of the Akwa Ibom people, Buhari is the President of Nigeria and nobody can restraint him from the use of certain facility anywhere in the country.

“The president has been fair and kind to Akwa Ibom people, ” he said.

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) linked with Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has formally adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its candidate in the 2019 election.

Naija Politico learnt that Amosun and the chairman of the party, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle were at Aso Rock on Monday to present a declaration formally adopting Buhari as the party’s candidate.

In Ogun state, Amosun’s ‘consensus’ candidates for the governorship election and state assembly elections are contesting under the banner of APM.

However, Amosun is contesting for the Ogun central senatorial seat as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) and 12 other political parties in Edo, have adopted Mr Patrick Obahiagbon and Mr Washington Osifo as their candidates for the 2019 National and State Assembly elections respectively.

Naija Politico learnt that the parties, under the auspices of Progressives Registered Political Parties (PRPP), announced the adoption of the two APC candidates at an enlarged meeting of the body in Benin on Monday.

Obahiagbon, former member, House of Representatives, is gunning for the Edo South Senatorial District seat while Osifo, former Commissioner of Education, is seeking to represent Uhunmwode Constituency in the Edo Assembly.

Mr Ogbodu Orlando, Spokesperson of PRPP comprising the Independent Democrats (ID), Accord Party, ANP, SPN, NPN, DPP, UPP, BNPP, JNPP, among others, said the group had followed Obahiagbon’s political career and was happy with it.

Orlando who is the state Chairman of ID, said: “we stand here today to adopt Patrick Obahiagbon for the Edo South Senatorial District election and Washington Osifo for the House of Assembly election.

“We believe in Obahiagbon because we have watched his antecedents from when he was a councilor to when he was in the State Assembly and the House of Representatives.

“We all believe in him and know that he can perform.”

In his response, Obahiagbon, who praised the group and said it had made democracy to thrive in the area.

He gave the assurance that the partnership would be sustained while he would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, if elected.

“I am delighted to have been endorsed by 13 vibrant political parties.

“They decided to, on their own, adopt my candidacy for the Edo South Senatorial District election and Hon. Washington Osifo for Uhunmwode Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

“It shows we are popular outside our party. These are popular people and we know that this will translate to victory for us in the February elections,” he said.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has retracted his earlier story of speaking with the widow of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba, killed by Boko Haram at Metele last month.

He now said he spoke with the slain soldier’s sister, Maryam.

Naija Politico learnt that the PDP candidate had opened himself to widespread derision following his online post that he spoke with Seun, Sawaba’s wife.

But the woman denied she received a phone call from Abubakar and wondered why the 72 year-old politician lied.

Abubakar has now set the record straight and apologized for the “erroneous communication”.

Following the death of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba during the Boko Haram insurgents’ attack on 157 Taskforce Battalion in Metele, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s staff has made efforts to get the contact of his widow to enable the former Vice President express his condolences over the loss of the fallen hero.

Over the weekend, Atiku Abubakar was availed with phone numbers of Mrs. Sakaba and Maryam, younger sister of the late soldier, in the alternative.

On Sunday, the former Vice President tried albeit unsuccessfully to contact Mrs. Sakaba but was able to eventually speak with Maryam, younger sister of the gallant soldier during which he expressed his deepest condolences to the family.

However, this communication was erroneously communicated. The error is regretted.

Atiku Abubakar, however reaffirms his deepest condolences to the Sakaba family, which sacrifices, like those of their brave son, keeps us safe.

President Muhammadu Buhari gave it back to the unruly legislators of the PDP in the National Assembly on Wednesday in a photo now going viral online, when he gestured with his fingers 4+4.

Symbolically, it means the President was telling the rude legislators that he would spend two terms of four years each, despite their animosity.

Senate President Bukola Saraki was certainly not happy with Buhari’s non-verbal gesture. But there was nothing he could do about the inevitable tide of history.

The Rivers State Government has approved the termination of the Share sale contract for the sale of 70-percent equity of the State Government owned power generation assets held by First Independent Power Limited in Omoku, Afam, Trans-Amadi and Eleme Gas Turbines to NG Power-HPS Limited.

The Rivers State Government also terminated the concession of the Rivers and Bayelsa State owned Olympia Hotel to Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited.

Naija Politico also learnt that the State Government further terminated the concession agreement between the Government of Rivers State and Kild concession Limited in respect of the construction of a Toll road and Secondary developments in Abonnema Wharf, Port Harcourt.

These were part of resolutions at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The three companies that had their contracts/concessions terminated are subsidiaries of Sahara Energy Limited, used by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to acquire state assets.

Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, Information and Communication Commissioner, Emma Okah said that the State Government arrived at the resolutions in line with yet to be implemented recommendations of the White Paper on the Report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry for the Investigation of the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on the sale of Valued Assets of Rivers State and other related matters under the chairmanship of Justice George Omereji.

The Rivers State Government directed the Honourable Attorney General of the State to take further steps as contained in the White Paper.

Mr Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC) has called for a united Labour movement that would confront the challenges bedeviling workers welfare in the country.

Oshiomhole said this at a programme in honour of the new President of the International Trade Union of Confederation (ITUC), Mr Ayuba Wabba, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Naija Politico reports that on Dec. 5, Wabba, who is the President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was elected President of ITUC in Copenhagen, Denmark for a term of four years.

ITUC is the largest trade union federation in the world and represents 207 million workers across the globe with 331 labour centres in 163 countries.

Oshiomhole said that the unity had become necessary as there were a lot of distractions to divide the labour movement in the country.

He said: ”I congratulate Comrade Wabba. But this must force us to do serious reflections if we are going to preside over the workers of the world.

“What do we do to deal with the distractions at home when we still have some of our brothers and comrades who still think that at this time, we can make sense out of a divided labour movement.

“The slogan that united we stand, divided we fall will always be valid; I hope that the spirit of your election will touch the heart of those who seems to be confused.

“There can be no question that united we stand, divided we fall.

“There is only one organised Labour and I am happy that President Muhammadu Buhari, speaking through the lips of the Vice President has reassured Nigeria Labour Movement that his government will not provide a platform for anyone to factionalism Organised Labour.

“You are not under the kind of threat that we faced when I was President of NLC when the former President sent a law to the National Assembly, not only to deregister the NLC, but also to make it possible for any three or four unions to form a Labour Centre,” he said.

He said that Buhari believed that the country needed more national institutions and that organised Labour was a potent unity bridge that must be sustained.

He added that under this government, there would not be another registered Labour Centre in the country.

“We need to be fired by the spirit of our people to work together and deal with all the issues that are bedeviling our country,” he said.

He therefore, charged the new president of the ITUC to confront the new challenges as it concerns trade unions around the world.

Also speaking, Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) said the Presidency was delighted about the international recognition.

“I want to congratulate Comrade Ayuba and assure you that as a government, we will give you all the support that you desire to succeed, because we believe that from this elevation, you have become ambassador of Nigeria to the international arena.

“They will watch you as they will watch the President of Nigeria because by extension, every decision you take there within the context of the fact that you are first a Nigerian before leading the world.

“I plead with you that in your representation, let the spirit of excellence with which you have led in this country be reflected in your leadership so that for once, it will be adjudged by the entire world that Nigerians are competent, efficient, and effective when it comes to the provision of leadership.

Mustapha, however, said that Nigeria would continue to give effective leadership to the different organisations to which Nigerians have been appointed.
