funny thing is that any acting we have to do should be as fast as possible (at most first quarter of 2018) all these long essays here won't help us.... by mid next year, every attention will be towards 2019 elections. Atiku has already defected to PDP. |

ladybug2: I have emailed again to ask about the timeline of payment not expecting any response anyway. However, I did get a response and all I was told that a specific date or timeline cannot be given as payments are handled by the commission and CBN. So it sort of depends on CBN processing. Fingers crossed. I will inform the house if I have received payments. hi ladybug, is this CBN payment for the past scholars only..or is it inclusive of 2017 prospectives and the promised t.fare? kindly revert. |

softwareplus: Here is my testimony on freelancing;
i have always known about freelancing and upwork ever since my university days but never took it seriously or pictured it as a source of income, not until after my NYSC, when reality dawned upon me that i had to irk out a living for myself. Graduating in the buhari era was not funny at all, the recession had kicked in strongly with cost of living on the rise, i spent a lot of jobless months in my fathers house receiving insults from parents who were obviously tired of fending for me, all my efforts to get a job even if it was a menial one proved abortive, frustration slowly kicked in but i had to resist it, either by book or crook i vowed to make a way for myself, even in the midst of the recession people were still progressing, building structures and acquiring exotic properties, i just couldnt take that as an excuse.
Some how i managed to get a laptop and a mifi from a 'God sent' friend with the motive of going into yahoo yahoo or any other fraudulent means of getting money, little did i know that God had another plan all setup for me.
Anyway to cut the long story short, i had a change of mind about the 'yahoo' thing because deep down i knew that wasnt the way out for me. A week later i opened my upwork account and luckily i got approved in no time, (i hear a lot of people complain about how hard it is to get an upwork account, as for me it was a very easy process, maybe because of the niche i applied for)
On Approval of my account, i went ahead to apply for jobs but i got no reply till about 3 days later when my very first client 'James Talton' initiated a conversation with me on one of the jobs i applied for, Being a newbie to the game i felt a bit nervous because that was the very first message i received from a potential client on upwork. We started getting along as he told me all his requirements and how he wanted them met, and i kept giving him polite and direct answers being overtly careful not to say anything that would deter me from winning his heart and landing the job, Just after a few minutes of conversation i saw an offer request pop up on the conversation screen, i was actually numb for a few seconds because the whole experience was new to me and i didnt know exactly what to do and how to do it, i just applied common sense (that i believe every learned person should have), read the terms and accepted the offer.
That was how i landed my first job on upwork, it was a $60 fixed price job, not an easy one though but i had to do everything possible to leave my newly found client smiling. it took me about four days to get the job done exactly as the client stated,i was given a week deadline so i still had reasonable time on my side but my urge to satisfy the client by finishing the work in lesser time couldn't stop me from submitting immediately and request approval of my very first milestone.
All this while i kept wondering how the money would get to me. i read about all the payment methods available then i opted for the direct to my local bank option(which i used my zenith bank account). i requested for my first withdrawal immediately after the four days it takes for the funds to appear on your timeline. i read all the instructions and did everything just exactly how i was instructed then waited for a miracle to happen.
To my amazement i received an SMS alert on my phone of the exact naira equivalent of the withdrawal i requested for in less than 10minutes. YES believe me when i say 10 minutes because thats exactly what happened, i was so amazed, the whole experience was so new to me. one unique thing about my upwork experience was that i never seeked enquiries from anybody. it was all an experiment i did all by myself.
From then on, i kept submitting job proposals tirelessly and landing jobs (no matter how small) till the day i met my very surest client (names withheld) and ever since then i have been smiling to the bank constantly. Some timid neighbors be thinking i'm a yahoo boy, i feel so sorry for them.
As of today 21st of november 2017, after 7 months of constant freelancing (since may), i can proudly boast that i have made millions from freelancing and the good thing is that the recession has been an advantage to freelancers this buhari era due to the high exchange rate, I make all my withdrawals at N332.143 per dollar. Presently i was hired by a Construction company in New york and i have been in charge of all their major estimating works since September.
I cant keep hiding this secret from my fellow Nigerians out there because it is too good to be true (anyway it is for those whom it may concern). Now i earn more and work at my own pace without having to answer 'sir' or 'ma' to anybody. isnt that cool?
Just yesterday i became TOP RATED on upwork and i feel so proud to have achieved such heights before the year ends, it took a lot of hard work and dedication, i had to deny myself of so many frivolities, when some of my friends were out partying i'll be in the house working for my clients.
At the moment, i am happy to say that i have moved out of my fathers house to an apartment of my own, own a cool ride, taking care of my girlfriend and our kid, with intentions of getting married next year. 2017 was a good year for me indeed, i dont intend to quit freelancing any time soon because it is my full time job. i keep wondering which job will pay me at least $1500 monthly (with the current exchange rate) if not an oil company job.
My Advice to upcoming freelancers Coming soon. pls can I pm u....I'm having problems getting my upwork account approved |

leksmedia: Hi I have been on upwork for over 3 years and for me I started it just for fun , but even when I don't apply now , I get free invites , its amazing , back to your question ,about relating with the employer please don't develop this oga mentality please I have worked with senior professionals from over 20 different countries , UK, USA, Israel , China , Kenya , South Africa just to mention a few. Act to them normally , do their job on time and always send the report of your activities even if they don't ask for it . About getting your funds , there are several ways , you can do direct bank transfer, they charge you $30 for that and in less than 3 days you get your fund. u can also apply for a payorneer card, (though I won't advise you keep money in it , its not too safe , prone to hacking mine has been hacked and that of a friend ) I only use this when I need small cash cos it's instant payment , and u they u $5 for the transaction and u subsequently get charge $5 for every transaction you make even if u just check your account balance. Hope this answers your questions and please some of us are trying hard to create a good impression about Nigeria online don't disappoint or spoil the name of this country , always do your job on time and with excellent quality . I have a 5 star review on over 30 jobs you know what that means right ?? hi leksmedia, I just sent u a pm...its regarding upwork. I'm new there, and having my account approved is the headache. kindly respond. |

dannysugar: We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Now that this scholarship issue has been debated on the floor of the Nigerian Senate last week,it was encouraging to see both APC/PDP Senators condem the way the agencies (NDDC) have mis-managed scholars welfare to the embarrassment of the nation. The senate president also lamenting the welfare as being insufficient. It will be interesting to hear his(MD) defense in his call-up for enquiries. It musn't always result in these national embarrassments for things to be done properly.
I hope these payments will be done soonest so we can all forge ahead. Interesting! didn't know it had reached Senate. please keep us updated. I follow NG Senate on Twitter, didn't see anything last week. |

xenaaa: Hey sethmelia002,
Here's what happened,
I sat in Nsima Ekere's visitors room on the 7th floor yesterday from about 1pm to 8pm. He had given word that he will see us as soon as he could ( a handful of us maybe 10 or so)
Just some mins to 8pm. The guy packed up,his aides made way, he was out of the building. Left us all there.
My anxious self was back there this morning. By 3pm, guy hasn't showed up for work. After thinking hard, couldn't do much so I left.
My thoughts, he would tell me the same thing hes been saying " I will do it". I could try to push it but who knows. Certainly can't compel him seeing that I didn't bring a pistol.
My Advice(even though you ain't asking), Speak to your school and see if you can push your start date to early next year. Just to curb the anxiety.
Let's wait for him to feel the need to conclude the scholarship. I think he will eventually do.Take the "next week" speculation with a pinch of salt. I heard his response on the subject as of last week. He said "I will do it" he was careful not to say when again.
I'll post if I have any update. Cheers. well done @xenaa, I applaud your approach and courage thus far. na una dey near Papa Nsima. |

I'm happy they are playing with our destinies like this, and they ll do so with many more young ones by publishing nddc scholarship 2018, 2019, 2020...when the previous years are owed tons of tuition money. I'm affected also, I'm not immune to the pain but I say.. we the NigerDeltans are chicken hearted, I watched as most of us said (wait and pray) by the 2nd week of September when schools abroad had started, I tell you, if this scholarship was for youths in the North (for instance) and their awardees list hadn't been published.. it would have been in the news (Channels, AIT.. etc) cos of some protest or riot, let us learn something from the northeners. My advice to us is fall back to ur plan B or plan C, we are in for a boat ride with Papa Nsima. the nddc skill acquisition programme is a subtle way of telling us to come and learn welding and carpentry to better the region. |
