Hello everyone. Kindly advice. Abeg, don't air me, please. So, I'm expecting my COS any moment via the skilled worker route. I stay in Enugu with my family. We intend going to Abuja for both Tb test at IOM and biometrics, hoping we get appointment days apart (cost of transportation is high, hence travelling with family twice is not a good option). My challenge is this: Given that we would upload our documents when applying for visa (without the TB certificate) and hoping we have the certificates at our biometrics, can we request assisted service at the centre just to upload them? If so, how much is it in recent times? Abi we should wait till UKVI sends a mail, then send to them? What if they now deny us? (Haaa...God abeg) If not, how best do I approach this? I have two toddlers and this to and fro travel would be quite hectic to make twice. Ejor, help my life... Thank you in anticipation ๐ |

Nancystan: Hello Sis. Your nephew may have either Gastroschisis or Omphalocoele (a clinical evaluation would make a definite diagnosis). I worked at NAUTH Nnewi and had a rotation as well in Paediatric Surgery so I can tell you that your nephew is in good hands. They should just follow all of the doctors' instructions and management protocol. He'll be fine, God willing. 7 Likes |

Good evening everyone. Been following the EE threads actively since part 9. I have a few queries though directed mostly to medical doctors who are currently in the process or have scaled through. 1. When creating an account on physiciansapply, which surname do I use because my MBBS Cert bears my maiden name while my passport bears my new surname bearing in mind svr to my school later? 2. I have read the post by drcynthia, sometime in 2019. Do we still need to notarize our MBBS cert copy and copy of our passport before sending? Can any notary public serve abi the specific ones listed in one of the sister threads? 3. Do we still send our packages via courier to MCC or are there better ways now especially via soft copies? Also, pay for courier for delivery of ECA to Nigeria? 4. Just to confirm, Since most of our medical colleges are located in campuses different from the main campus site (mine for one is), the svr should be to our medical school right? Thank you in anticipation Cc ednut1 vcole drcynthia Other doctors |

BS! BFP So, while dressing up for a training that fateful January morning, I realized my period was meant to have showed up. I made a mental note to pad up so it does not disgrace me at the training. Just as I was pulling out the pad, I saw one remaining pregnancy test strip in the bag (hubby and I actively tried two months before and after 6days of delayed period and false hope, aunt flo came in torrents; reason I still had an available test strip). I just decided to use this last one and dispose so I could put my mind to rest. Tested, placed on top of the pack on the table and went ahead to finish up dressing. One look at the test strip and I saw two huge lines staring at me... Jesus! My very first BFP... Wao... Was I really prepared for this? Next was to call hubby and we both called my mom... yen yen yen (you know the drill...the oohhs and ahhhhs and do's and don'ts). Blood test and abdominopelvic ultrasound were all positive with the good news. First Trimester Mehn, first trimester came with lots of nausea and tiredness, no vomiting though... I could only take sprite and fanta for a whole day. On some other days, I craved something and went all the way to find it on such days, no matter the stress ooo. One time like that, my craving was sniffing mint money, lol... Hubby had to change money to mint ni, I go just arrange am for purse, small time, I go comot am to inhale... chei God! Aside some of these silly things, first trimester was somewhat uneventful and I commenced ANC at 10wks +6days (EDD: 11th September, 2020). Second trimester Second trimester came with spitting which stopped after a while. Then came the excruciating pains of myoma degeneration... kai... ended up in the hospital and there started my journey into using opiods to stop the pains when they start. This was about the 18th week and that was when I was told I was going to have a princess. Appetite improved and I rested the most part. When we were about rounding off, my feet started swelling, though no other symptom of preeclampsia was on the radar. So I just cruised past. Third Trimester I was quite expectant. I actually felt I would port to August sincerely cos my bump was big sha, at least compared to my slim frame. I finished packing my bags by week 32. Eh he, thirst from nowhere... I was drinking water on a regular, each trip to quench my thirst saw me downing nothing less than two chilled satchet water and in a day, I could finish 10-12 satchets of water or more. Frequency in urination and insomnia started full time... I was so jealous watching Hubby sleep most nights, lol. Anyway, August jejely passed me by, so my porting dream died a natural death. Hehe! Labour and Delivery Woke up on Sunday 6th September, 2020 about 5am and realized I was having contractions at 39wks + 4days. the contraction timer app on my phone showed it was somewhat regular initially, then just became irregular most times. So by 6am, woke Hubby up and we went for a long walk. Came back, rushed and made food but nausea could not let me eat well and having vomited the week before also while eating Sunday rice, I was scared of vomiting again(I usually do not vomit). We had some errands to run so we set out but with my bags in the car. I insisted on a brief stop at the hospital first before we started our wakawaka. Got there, my cervix could only admit the tip of the finger... yuck... on top this discomfort! Okay ooo. Sha, show started dropping after the examination. I was advised not to travel far though and to come in if anything changes. By the time we were leaving the first place to the second that evening, na better pain dey worry me though contractions were still irregular. By 9pm, I could not bear it any longer, had my bath and left with Hubby to the hospital. Brethren, I was just 2cm gone... oh Lord! I sha told them I rather stay the night than go back home and was admitted for observation. Had contractions throughout the night, could not sleep... Hubby was there all through (God bless that man everyday!) rubbing my back and praying. I practically had to beg him to get some sleep which he succumbed to almost at dawn. I was hopeful that we should have made progress as per dilation by Monday morning (7th September, 2020). My dears, morning came and I was just about 4cm. Dear Lord! Infact, contractions stopped just before that examination. My obstetrician just told me he was going to augment labour... haaa, me sef know how painful that stuff can be just by observing my own patients... I just laughed and told him I was not prepared for it. He just said he'd send for me later. Men and brethren, I was sent for ooo and misoprostol tabs inserted... within 15mins, the real madness started... there was no breathing space, the contractions were just hitting me back to back... no position could make it better... I lay down on the hospital floor, knelt down, walked on all fours, lai lai... the tears started flowing, I was shaking the hospital bed eh... Christ! I remember telling my lovely husband he should not touch me again, to avoid slap... next moment, I was apologizing, lol. I saw myself going into another realm... just told hubby to go tell the doctor to section me. My doctor sent for me, I was taken to the labour room, behold, I was 8cm gone within one hour. Next thing, these people set up an infusion and added oxytocin to it... I just asked my doctor "Chief, do you want to kill me?" Kai... poo catch me by force, but I had pooed twice way earlier that morning and there was actually nothing to poo again, lol. Within 15mins, I was fully dilated, they were encouraging me to push but nah, at that point, I was exhausted... very exhausted. I just could not. I only kept saying "please section me"... my obstetrician begged, encouraged, said he could see baby's head... I just could not... I was not seeing anymore, I just wanted to sleep and I begged them to let me sleep. So I was taken to the theatre and knocked off with general anesthesia (I travelled to the US and was performing surgery on someone sef, lol). When I started coming to, I was being stitched up. Over time, my eyes became less heavy and I could open them well and communicate coherently. By the second day, I was walking around though the pains sha. My princess weighed 3.7kg at birth (2.7kg was estimated fetal weight on my 36wks obstetric ultrasound...I was hoping las las, we no go pass 3.2kg at birth...for where?) Currently still healing... baby colics be keeping us awake at night... but we are surviving. Baby dust to all TTC mothers! Bye team September. God will make it easy for all of us both in childbirth and in upbringing. Amen! cc mayluv... BS submitted! 75 Likes 1 Share |

Cappo, good evening ma. We are fine ooo...threw up today for the first time ever in this pregnancy. Maybe cos I took zobo with my food. Was seriously craving zobo and made some. Been scared to eat since then..took a little quantity much later on hubby's insistence but still feeling nauseous. Called my obstetrician and got an anti emetic recommended. I'm feeling sick sha. Aside that, we are still here ooo...marching into 39wks. Bags have been packed on or before 32wks sef, lol! God will make it easy for us. Amen! Was hoping to port but what can I do? Lol. It's well. @sugah @Fertilady It was just some education as a medical doctor. But as always, everyone is entitled to their opinions. Cheers! P. s: Same way Gestational Trophoblastic Disorders would give you a positive pregnancy test... Same way an ectopic pregnancy would give you a positive pregnancy test. All these, until an abdominopelvic ultrasound is done to rule in or out. I'm tired abeg. Just believe what you can 7 Likes |

Fertilady: No ma'am. Blood pregnancy test is NOT confirmatory for pregnancy. The ONLY confirmatory test for pregnancy is an abdominopelvic ultrasound. Blood test is just one of a series of test for pregnancy but NOT confirmatory. Soloblincus Sir, no one says it'll turn negative after an abdominopelvic ultrasound... Nah. But it's good to know. Also, if there are other underlying stuff in the pelvis say fibroid, they could be seen and the size noted so that incase it increases in size, there is already a known baseline for comparison. Another advantage of a first trimester ultrasound is that it makes for a better calculation of estimated gestational age and EDD. Let us be guided, please... So we do not sound somewhat uninformed when we speak outside. Cheers! 7 Likes |

rhosmherhy: Mehn, this same degeneration of fibroid that dealt with my life almost at the same gestational age as yours. The pain aint funny. I had to be admitted for observation and the pain knocked out with IM analgesics because paracetamol was doing nada. I had to take an opiod(Caps. Tramadol; which is usually not sold over the counter in big pharmacies without prescription) to relieve the pain afterwards. Hope you know NSAIDS like Diclofenac and the likes are not good for you in pregnancy. Whatever pain Paracetamol/Tylenol cannot handle, discuss with your doctor and most likely, one of the opiods may be prescribed (I'm a doctor too, but I have my own doctor(s)...pregnancy no be by knowing book, lol). Good thing is that the pain reduces over time. You'll be fine, mama! 11 Likes 1 Share |

FloraEC:Hello Mama...kindly note that no pelvic examination is done during the first trimester. None at all! Meanwhile, how can the pelvis of a mother whose developing embryo/foetus have not even gone close to achieving expected fetal birth weight be checked? To what end and for what exactly? Even clinical pelvimetry done at 36wks or slightly later than that depending on the doctor is no longer routine practice. Let us be guided 3 Likes |

[quote author=Adedoyin20 post=91121614]Good morning sabi mamas. Hope we are all fine. I'm 37 weeks. Went to the clinic today and told to get ready for vaginal examination next week. Pls can anyone share the experience with me. I'm a first timer. Will like to know what to expect.[/quote Hello Mama. The procedure is called clinical pelvimetry. It accesses the adequacy of the pelvic outlet. The clinician aims to achieve an insight on what you should expect and profers advice accordingly together with your clinical history on possible modes of delivery. Some pelvises are normal gynecoid shaped...others may not be...however baby might still be able to pass especially if foetal weight is not above normal or on the high side of normal usually seen in cases of borderline pelvis. Some Mamas however have contracted pelvises, hence, pushing a baby is a no no... It can be quite discomforting usually though procedure lasts less than 3minutes and you might spot a little afterwards but it is good to have an idea and help your clinician to manage you better. In recent times though, it may or may not be carried out...it all depends on the discretion of the managing clinician. The disclaimer here is that pelvis being certified adequate does not rule out any other complications (God forbid though) that may arise immediate pre- or peri- labour that may lead to major decisions being taken on route of delivery. The choice is yours though... Cheers! 8 Likes |
