I applied for study permit and open work permit to Canada with my spouse and was refused based on insufficient funds and assets. My Aunt was our sponsor even though I included my bank statement and that of my spouse.
Now we would like to apply again with my step mum as main sponsor and my aunt as co sponsor.
What advice can you give me on how best to go about this.

Regardless of who your sponsor is, try to ensure that the minimum financial requirement for you to stay in Canada is achieved by the main applicant. The IRCC officer wants to know if you are able to take care of yourself and your dependents while studying in Canada. You need to calculate the total value of your school fees plus living expense estimated to be 10,000 cad per annum (better to be $13,310 cad) + miscellaneous (+/- 2500cad) for you. You must also take into account the dependent's welfare that is coming with you. If your fund is not enough, go alone at first and let your dependent apply for SOWP while you're already in.

You either go there to pick it up before 10 am or pay for their in-house DHL delivery service that costs 18k or so.

PPR for i and 2 children, it was a very long wait but God did it !

My children got their PPR on the 28th of February but I only received a correspondence letter after almost a month my PPR dropped on the 23rd of March. Wishing everyone still waiting the best and congratulations on advance

My brother, it doesn't matter. Once you meet the minimum requirements, you are good to go. Your business account being busy is a good sign that your business is active. This is also a good feel for it to be viewed as tied to your home country. Use your personal account and keep the balance in good shape through the application. Then only use the business account as a home tie under the additional documents section where you will have your letter of explanation.

Please i have a question, the travel date on that application submitted was October for my flight ticket however, I had to open the ticket and cancel the hotel reservation done as the application from July 16th is still being processed, please what do i do? I can't spend money buying a new ticket again, i opened the current one i have but they can't issue me another ticket until i have a travel date and seeing that the application is still being processed, i don't want to spend more money choosing a date and i don't even know when the visa would be issued. What you need to use was a Ticket reservation for Visa Application, not the confirmed Ticket. However, what you should do is keep it open. Do hotel and ticket reservation only not confirmed if needed for the purpose of your application.

Police and medical reports are not required for visitors visa

They are not required for Visiting/Tourist. However, if you have them and they are cool, you can add them to the additional document section.

I will suggest you use your personal account that has your name as it is on your passport. 10M naira(equivalent to > 25,000 cad officially) is more than enough if you are a tourist/Visitor for just 1 month, depending on your planned stay. I am not sure if you are the single signatory to your company account but know that it is a separate entity to you. However, on the additional documents, you can include the company account also to show a strong tie to your home country. If your statement is busy and shows a consistent business transaction, you pay tax, and have all related company registration documents, it is more than enough tie to bring you back to your country in addition to your family.

Nevertheless, make sure you clearly explain in your letter of explanation. You scan the letter of explanation on the first page and list the sequence of documents in it.

Follow the process as highlighted on the IRCC portal. I will assume they are coming purposely to visit you, so their visa application will be under the category of a family visit. And as you are a temporary resident in Canada, you will need to present the following documents:

Letter of invitation - A letter written by you to your parents. Details of expected info are below:
Travel History - A clear copy of 1 or more of the following: Your parent's previous passports and/or visas (used within the last 10 years to travel outside Nigeria), Entry and exit stamps, Study and/or work permits that indicate their duration outside Nigeria, Expired or Valid visas.
Itinerary - Copies of any of the following: flight details and hotel reservations - Very Important.
Account statement of your parents - I want to believe that your dad will be the main applicant and mum will be his spouse, Bank name and contact of his account (Just give MBS for this), Proof it is their account - Their name and address on the statement show that the account is theirs, Account details - At least 6 months of account details, including balances, helps IRCC understand their financial situation.
Employer information - If dad and/or mum still working, A letter from his/her employer can confirm that they have a stable job and will return to it. It can also show that his/her employer supports his/her visit to Canada. The letter should be printed on his/her employer’s official letterhead.
A clear color copy of his & her valid passport or travel document that he/she'll use to travel to Canada.
A completed IMM 5476- Use of a representative (IMM 5476)form - I believe you will be the one that will apply on behalf of the applicant. You need to complete this form.
A completed IMM 5645 form - This is where you will specify that his spouse, your mum will be accompanying him.

You need to scan all the pages of the passports both current and expired and join them together to attach them to the section. Also, please, let them show the financial capacity to take care of their trip themselves even if you are the one planning to house them. Tie to the home country is key, show more interest on the letter for them to come back home to. There is a section for additional document, this is where the letter of explanation will come in and if there are property documents/ business occupying their attention back home, you want to put them there together. Make sure the main applicant is any one of them that has a higher range in terms of finance/travel experience. Then your mum will be his accompanying spouse. Your letter of explanation should also be detailed and clear with purpose of visit detailed.

Alternatively is for them to visit as a tourist, on this, you do not need to issue any letter of invitation. Here, travel history, itinerary, account statement, passport, Filled use of a representative (IMM 5476) form, Authority to release personal information to a designated individual (IMM 5475) form and completed Family information (IMM 5645) will suffice.

The guru's in the house can add what I might've missed.

I am not too sure about this but perhaps you should use the web form to include the passport copy details of your child, the revised filled IMM5645E form where you will now indicate that your child will be accompanying you, and a detailed LOE. That might be cheaper to do, and i believe it will work as such, otherwise, you might have to raise another application for yourself while adding him to accompany you.

Note also that your inputs might need to change on other forms. You need to pay attention to the declared amount available for your trip also to include your child. Good luck.

There’s nothing like lead applicant. Since you’re funding the trip, and possibly you’ve got a good job with enough funds in your account, you’ll apply as a family. Remember, you have to show strong home ties since you intend going with your family. Give it your best shot by packaging your application very well. Remember, your LOE is as important as any document. All the best.

Yes, my bro/sis is right! On the IMM5257B, you will be the principal applicant and your form will have the travel history as shown below. Your wife's own will be the other option while her travel history will also be on the sheet. It is very good to have a detailed LOE to support your application if you are all going together. However, you should not rely on her sponsoring anything. Show the financial capacity to sponsor yourself and show a strong inclination to come back to your business/work if employee. If you are able to, secure some organized trips while in Canada and show booked itinerary.

Applications are processed in the order of receipt. Processing usually takes 15 business days from receipt by the Embassy of a complete application and may take longer during peak times and in exceptional circumstances. This estimate excludes the shipping of applications to the Embassy and the return of passports to applicants.

With respect to the second question, there is a correspondence letter that will come after you have been issued the counterfoil. it includes information with respect to what to bring with you when coming to Canada on a study permit for example. I believe VV will also have something like that. However, the basic thing you should at least have will be proof of financial capability to sustain yourself during the declared period in Canada, if you have paid hotel, and sightseeing paid details, you should present that as well. If you have been given a leave letter from work which is part of what you probably used for your application, you might also want to come with it.

Anyone with exact experience should share.

Lest I forget, seeing that what you originally wanted is a spousal open work permit instead of Visiting Visa, an alternative option is to put the Visiting Visa application on hold while you push forward on the SOWP. as of this morning, the processing time on SOWP is 25 weeks from Nigeria while that of Visiting Visa is 359 days. If you do not wish to withdraw the VV application, you can choose which application is processed first. A note will be put on the other application and the local office or the CPC-S will hold it pending the outcome of the chosen application.
If the application is successful, the application on hold will be designated "incomplete", the file retired and the appropriate fees returned.
If the application is unsuccessful, the suspended application is released from hold and processing continued.
The client should be instructed to advise CIC if their application is unsuccessful in order to ensure that their second application is released from hold and processed promptly. I hope this answers your question.

When an applicant submits more than one application before an earlier application is formerly finalized, CIC must determine whether the later application should be processed at the same time as the earlier application is being finalized. If you’re applying for a work permit, and your family members want to come to Canada, they must also apply to visit or work or study in Canada. They can apply at the same time as you.CIC has an obligation to avoid duplication of work or unnecessary costs in the processing of an application. They specifically mentioned that, unless a client specifically requests CIC to process two or more applications at the same time, all applications will be held by CIC until processing on the initial application is completed. This means you are allowed to submit the 2 applications running together, you only need to specify. I will perhaps advise that you use the new portal for 1 and the secure portal for the other. Applicants are encouraged to submit new applications only if they have new facts or evidence.

Are you referring to a study Permit or Visiting Visa? It seems you are referring to a student study permit from your information. Regardless, medicals might not reflect on your account until 30 days after or until your application is finalized depending on whether you did the medicals upfront or you did afterward. If you applied last week Monday, I am assuming you did medicals upfront. If you did medicals upfront, I want to assume you already uploaded your result via web form. However, congratulations ahead! there is a high chance you passed the medicals if your eligibility has started.

I applied for the same Visiting Visa on June 30, 2022, and still waiting on their response. There is no strategy to this except, patience. IRCC treats applications on a case-by-case basis, hence, difficult to compare. Some might have some advantage over others, like, having a US Visa, running or expired for example. Going by what the estimated processing time from Nigeria is as of date, your application is still a toddler! . Just make sure your application is tight and in line with requirements, wait patiently, and pray if you roll that way! It will end in praise.

I applied on June 30, 2022, As I did not receive any mail from IRCC, I will never be sure of the exact date the status of eligibility changed. But I requested for my GCMS notes on February 6. 2023 and received a response on March 11, 2023. I guess the update came thereafter.

Hello guys, I need help. We got a message from vfs that the passport is ready for pickup at their lagos office.
I initially paid for a one way courier for drop off. Can I go to DHL and pay for pick up? The reason I asking is because vfs said that to use their in-house courier services, we have to pay for each passport. We applied for family visa and paying for each passport will be expensive. Also, the DHL services is way cheaper than vfs in-house courier.
Also does anyone know if vfs refunds for in house courier services that was not used?

You can not use your own DHL pickup services to pick up the passports. That is the annoying trend currently with VFS Lagos. You will either have to use theirs which is like 18k plus per passport or go there between 8:30 and 10:00 am to pick it up yourself.

When I applied, I downloaded so many times facing the same issue. The way I resolved it then was to use chrome. However, you need to go to privacy, security, and site settings.

Click site settings, you will see PDF documents under Additional content settings, click it and set it to "download PDFs" instead of "Open PDFs in chrome".

Once this is done, the forms will be downloaded into your system and you will be able to fill it on the system accordingly.

It shows your application is still under active review. FCC means the five country conferences. Simply put, the Canadian authorities are asking information about you from the USA. The reason you see" Ready to be Assessed" USA.

But nothing to be worried about if your travel history is without issues.

I applied through the privacy act route on the 7th of February 2023 and got my GCMS note on March 11, 2023. I can't make any sense of what is there though. I applied on June 30, 2022.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my initial post. This group is very helpful. Has anyone used courier to collect their passport back? Unfortunately dhl was not doing two way courier so that was not an option at the initial point of transmission.

You can go to collect your passport if you applied through VFS Global office at the Manor house in Lagos between the hours of 8:30am to 10am Mondays to Fridays.
