In an interview with CNBC, Cameron Winklevoss explained that the properties of bitcoin allow it to operate as a premier store of value that is in orders of magnitude better than gold in many aspects, including transportability, divisibility, and monetary supply. “We’ve always felt that bitcoin, given its properties, is gold 2.0 — it disrupts gold. Gold is scarce, bitcoin is actually fixed. Bitcoin is way more portable and way more divisible,” said Winklevoss. He added that if bitcoin can continue to disrupt the $6 trillion gold market in the long-term, it will be able to hit a trillion dollars in a relatively short period of time, given that the market valuation of bitcoin already remains close to $300 billion. “Long term, directionally, it is a multi trillion-dollar asset — I don’t know how long it takes to get there,” emphasized Winklevoss. Bitcoin is rapidly transforming the global finance industry as a decentralized store of value. If the bitcoin market is able to sustain its growth rate over the next few years, it will penetrate into the gold and offshore banking industries. The combined market cap of gold and offshore banking industry amount to nearly $40 trillion. Winklevoss noted that other currencies and cryptocurrencies are not the competition of bitcoin. Rather, other safe haven assets and store of values such as gold are the real competition of the cryptocurrency. He explained: “Bitcoin is not competing with those other currencies. It is competing with gold. Bitcoin is the oldest, it has the first mover advantage and there’s tremendous liquidity,” A study conducted by Asset Protection Planners in April of 2015 estimated the amount of cash and assets stashed in offshore bank accounts at over $32 trillion. At the time, tax lawyer and Liechtenstein wealth adviser Philip Marcovici, stated that the motive of both individual and institutional investors storing money in offshore banking accounts is not to avoid taxes, but to obtain privacy and financial confidentiality. “For most people, it is not only the objective of not paying taxes. It’s the objective of obtaining the right to privacy and seeking financial confidentiality,” said Marcovici. Structurally and conceptually, bitcoin is a significantly better system to store money for individuals and institutional investors than offshore bank accounts, primarily because governments can still crackdown on offshore bank accounts. In 2016, the US government fined Swiss banks $1.3 billion, involving more than 43,000 offshore bank accounts holding $48 billion. https://go2pedia..com.ng/2017/12/bitcoin-market-cap-to-surpass-trillions.html

Ford has put a lot of focus on China’s electric vehicle market — with a local joint venture expected to lead to 15 electric or hybrid models on sale in the country by 2025 — and today the automotive giant announced a tie-in with Alibaba to fulfill its ambitious goals. The scope of alliance is fairly broad and vague at this point, but a large chunk of the”strategic collaboration” appears to be based around developing a direct sales channel to reach consumers in China. Alibaba is the country’s largest e-commerce firm that’s best known for its Taobao marketplace and T-Mall service for brands. The alliance could see Ford utilize T-Mall to sell cars to consumers — the company has sold items like cargo jets via Taobao before — but there could be room for collaboration within Alibaba’s ‘Next Retail’ strategy that unites online and offline commerce. The Chinese giant recently invested in national hypermarket operator Sun Retail in a move that it hopes will increase the synergies between e-commerce and physical retailing, and automotive is one vertical where that mesh is more obviously beneficial. People like to touch, feel and drive cars before they buy them, but yet doing basic research and purchasing online is more productive than visiting multiple showrooms. |

Participants in the study were rated for sexual orientation based on their self-reported sexual identity and sexual feelings. Men were asked to provide DNA by blood or saliva samples that were then genotyped and analysed. Although previous studies have pointed to a genetic predisposition for homosexuality, it is the first time researchers have studied the entire genome of individuals and so is the most comprehensive assessment of the genetic basis of sexuality ever undertaken. However British experts said more work was needed before it was possible to identify ‘gay genes’ because the genetic differences could point to other traits shared by the homosexual respondents. For example the variations may simply predispose people to be more open or candid about their lives. “The topic of this paper is important if we are to learn more about the influence of genes on aspects of our behaviour, but this is one that is notoriously difficult to study", Prof Robin Lovell-Badge, Group Leader at The Francis Crick Institute, said. “Even if a gene variant does show some correlation with sexual orientation, this does not mean that the gene is in any way responsible for being gay – it just means it has some association with a trait that is more likely to found in the relatively few people involved as subjects in the study. “This could be better social awareness or being brave enough to acknowledge that they are in a minority.” Cc. lalsticlala https://go2pedia..com.ng/2017/12/homosexuality-have-been-discovered-to.html

A lot of people are talking about cryptocurrencies these days, probably because they've gone so much higher this year. The most important thing to remind ourselves is that anything to do with bitcoin or ethereum right now is pure speculation. Prices are rising because there is a finite supply and people are betting that other people are going to buy at higher prices later. There are zero fundamentals involved because these digital assets produce no cash flows, like a stock or a bond. Whether or not cryptocurrencies represent the future of commerce or are just in a giant bubble, people are curious about how they can experiment. I do not recommend that people risk their money in cryptocurrencies, but I have been experimenting personally, just to learn and see for myself what it's all about. This video is for people who are curious and it's not an endorsement of any particular coin or service. Okay, with that disclaimer, I'll tell you a little bit about how I've been doing my research. I chose to use Coinbase.com to buy my first bitcoin this July. It's a brokerage and handles storage for people who want to buy and sell digital assets. To get started, I created a login and an account. I was then prompted to link a bank account, which took 48 hours to establish. I was able to execute my first purchase, locking in my price immediately, although it took almost a week before the money was transferred in from my bank and the coin purchase showed up on the screen. The first thing you'll see when you log in is a dashboard. It defaults to showing you Bitcoin's recent price activity, although you can toggle over to see prices of Ethereum and Litecoin, the other two digital assets Coinbase currently allows you to buy and sell. Below, you'll see the holdings in your account. The buy/sell page is where you place an order. It looks like an online stock brokerage page, and that's probably not an accident. You have the option of buying fractional amounts of cryptocurrency. You don't have to buy one whole coin at a time. I believe that this has sped adoption among young speculators first starting out with lower dollar figures. You can also see that there is an option to place a fixed dollar amount at a specified interval. For example, you can have the same dollar amount move into your account daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly, making an automatic purchase regardless of price. It's sort of like dollar cost averaging, which in the long-run can be converted to your local currency. The most popular news source for all things crypto is called Coindesk. Coindesk has set itself up to be something like the Wall Street Journal for digital assets. The news coverage goes on throughout the day, written by analysts and journalists who cover the space. It is, of course, highly biased toward being bullish on crypto in general so it's important to take everything you read with a grain of salt. Let me remind everyone that so far, Bitcoin has had a parabolic rise and has turned into something of a mania, and there is no reason to think that this could go on uninterrupted. In fact, one of the most enduring features of the crypto-space is the periodic crash, which comes without any warning, even though all of the crashes have led to higher prices so far. Storage and custody is another tricky issue, with hacks of these exchanges having occurred on a regular basis. For that reason, many players have been taking their digital coins off of the exchanges and storing them on a chip that is not connected to the internet. Timing a mania or a bubble is very difficult, so my attitude is to expect that every dollar I experiment with could be lost. The world of cryptocurrencies is both exciting and fraught with danger, volatility and the chance of theft. It's very early right now and anyone experimenting should do so with eyes wide open and a high risk tolerance. Ethereum might not be as intuitive as the web as we know it today, but still, anyone with a computer or a smartphone can try the platform out as long as they own 'ether' – unique pieces of code that allow updates to the blockchain's ledger. The thought of using ethereum might sound intimidating, but it could be rewarding. If the 'unstoppable world computer' develops according to plan, it could provide alternatives to the Facebooks and Googles that many people use every day. What is Ethereum? Before you can understand ethereum, it helps to first understand the internet. Today, our personal data, passwords and financial information are all largely stored on other people's computers – in clouds and servers owned by companies like Amazon, Facebook or Google. Even this CoinDesk article is stored on a server controlled by a company that charges to hold this data should it be called upon. This setup has a number of conveniences, as these companies deploy teams of specialists to help store and secure this data, and remove the costs that come with hosting and uptime. But with this convenience, there is also vulnerability. As we've learned, a hacker or a government can gain unwelcome access to your files without your knowledge, by influencing or attacking a third-party service – meaning they can steal, leak or change important information. Brian Behlendorf, the creator of the Apache Web Server, has gone so far as to label this centralized design the "original sin" of the Internet. Some like Behlendorf argue the Internet was always meant to be decentralized, and a splintered movement has sprung up around using new tools, including blockchain technology, to help achieve this goal. Ethereum is one of the newest technologies to join this movement. While bitcoin aims to disrupt PayPal and online banking, ethereum has the goal of using a blockchain to replace internet third parties — those that store data, transfer mortgages and keep track of complex financial instruments. In short, ethereum wants to be a 'World Computer' that would decentralize – and some would argue, democratize – the existing client-server model. With ethereum, servers and clouds are replaced by thousands of so-called "nodes" run by volunteers from across the globe (thus forming a "world computer" .READ MORE https://go2pedia..com.ng/2017/12/ethereum-moving-forward-from-bitcoin.html |

The statement read: "Our attention has been drawn to the claims made by the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima on Thursday at a book launch to the effect that former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan wasted the goodwill he commanded because of bad governance and poor choices in office. He was also said to have accused Jonathan of believing that he was behind the kidnap of the Chibok girls. "As a man who had never seen anything good in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan on account of party and other differences, it has remained our considered view that in a democracy, Governor Kashim Shettima and others like him are entitled to their opinion, no matter how jaundiced. "However, it is a sad commentary on the character of some of our politicians that they go to any length to make spurious statements, in pursuit of the sad narrative to remain politically correct. We cannot be deceived by his crocodile tears and patronizing claim that “Jonathan is essentially a decent man”, which is a ploy he deployed to justify his false allegation of a lost glory. "The man who today speaks of squandered goodwill should be able to tell Nigerians what percentage of the votes Jonathan got in 2011 from Borno State at the height of that his envisaged glory according to Shettima, and what it became in subsequent elections. What was obvious yesterday and has remained so today is that Governor Shettima and those who think like him never liked Jonathan based on some parochial and paternalistic sentiments. "We didn’t expect anything less from Governor Shettima, knowing the ignoble roles he played in frustrating the war waged by the past administration against Boko Haram, even in his own Borno State. "He should be able to tell us if it was Jonathan’s poor choices that led the Governor to expose students of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok to avoidable danger, in total disregard of a Federal "Government directive to the Governors in the three states most affected by Boko Haram to relocate their students writing the West African School Certificate Examinations to safe zones. "The governor is now denying that he had no hand in the kidnap of the Chibok girls even before anybody accused him of culpability. However, we share the view of those who insist that the governor had other things up his sleeve when he promised the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) that he would secure the girls, and ended up doing the very opposite, by deliberately abandoning them to their fate, without any security presence in their school. "It is instructive that while other governors in the zone heeded the security advice, Shettima remained the only one that flagrantly flouted it. Should we also fail to point out that his decision to reward the principal of Chibok Secondary School, who was uncharacteristically absent on the night terrorists stormed the school, with the post of a commissioner, did throw up more questions than answers? "Talking about accountability, perhaps, Shettima should also do well to explain to the good people of Borno State and Nigerians what he did with the over N60 billion Local Governments fund, left by his predecessor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. https://www.naija.ng/1138298-my-achievements-matched-jonathan-fires-governor-shettima.html |

In parts of Libya, African migrants are being sold into slavery for as little as $400. Human auctions, where migrants are sold like cattle have becoming a chilling reality for many in the North African country, an exclusive report from CNN last week has revealed. "Does anybody need a digger? This is a digger, a big strong man, he'll dig," a salesman dressed in camouflage reportedly said during one auction. "What am I bid, what am I bid?" Help let the world know to rescue fellow blacks. https://go2pedia..com.ng/2017/11/black-people-are-being-sold-in-tripoli.html

Dogs typically focus on the most remarkable aspect of each situation, such as threatening stimuli in a frightening situation. Recognising and interpreting threats quickly is important for survival. Dogs under the influence of oxytocin were more interested in smiling faces than they were in angry ones. It seems that the hormone oxytocin influences what the dog sees and how it experiences the thing it sees,” says doctoral student Sanni Somppi. Researchers in the Canine Mind group showed 43 dogs images of smiling and angry faces on a computer screen. Each dog was tested twice: once under the influence of oxytocin, which was administered as part of the test, and once without oxytocin. The dog’s gaze on the images and pupil size were measured with an eye-tracking device. Emotions and attentiveness guide the gaze and regulate pupil size, making eye tracking a window into the dogs’ minds. https://go2pedia..com.ng/2017/11/smiling-human-faces-are-attractive-to.html

A senior security official in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sparked outrage after calling for the bombing of Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based media network. In a series of posts on Twitter on Friday, Dubai Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan launched a scathing attack against Al Jazeera, accusing it of provoking a bomb and gun assault on a mosque in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula earlier in the day. "The alliance must bomb the machine of terrorism ... the channel of ISIL, al-Qaeda and the al-Nusra front, Al Jazeera the terrorists," the former police chief and now head of security in the Emirate told his 2.42 million followers on the social media site. Khalfan then posted an image of Al Jazeera's iconic logo superimposed in front of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, head of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group, former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and 91-year-old Islamic theologian Yusuf al-Qaradawi. What Dhahi Khalfan is doing is incitement to terrorism. Terrorism is not just limited to committing a crime, but any act or statement that paves the way for a terrorist act or incites it, and incitement to terrorism is terrorism itself. Yaser Abuhilalah, managing director of Al Jazeera Arabic, said Khalfan bore "full responsibility for any attack against Al Jazeera and its employees". "The UAE needs to respond [to Khalfan's comments]. He's not just an Emirati citizen but an official in the UAE government," Abuhilalah told al-Quds al-Arabi on Saturday. "He is using a moment of anger and grief over the terrible attack in Sinai to fuel his hatred against Al Jazeera. "What Dhahi Khalfan is doing is incitement to terrorism. Terrorism is not just limited to committing a crime, but any act or statement that paves the way for a terrorist act or incites it, and incitement to terrorism is terrorism itself," he said. Stoking controversy Khalfan has made several controversial comments in the past but has never been prosecuted under the UAE's anti-hate speech laws. In March of last year, he made headlines after urging Arabs to ally with Israel against "enemies of the Middle East" - a veiled attack against Iran and the region's Shia Muslims. And earlier this year, the 66-year-old tweeted his "complete support" for US President Donald Trump's Muslim ban. Khalfan railed against Iraqis, Somalis and Iranians, nationalities included in the US travel restrictions, calling them "unproductive groups", mocked the war and poverty afflicting Iraq, and would also call on the UAE to annex Qatar, referring to it as an "eighth emirate." The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting "terrorism", an allegation Doha has vehemently denied. As part of the blockade, the UAE made expressing sympathy towards Qatar a punishable offence, with a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine of at least AED 500,000 ($136,000). On June 22, the Saudi-led group issued a 13-point list of demands, including the shutdown of Al Jazeera, the limiting of ties with Iran and the expulsion of Turkish troops stationed in the country, as a prerequisite to lifting the sanctions. Qatar rejected the demands as an infringement on its sovereignty. Since its launch 21 years ago, Al Jazeera's offices have occasionally been bombed or shut down in many places, including Kabul, Baghdad and Gaza.
