Health / Sharing Ventilators Is Possible For Covid-19 Patients—but Not Ideal by chily11: 4:47pm On May 13, 2020
As severe cases of COVID-19 spiked in northern Italy, emergency medicine doctor Marco Garrone paused during a chaotic shift to tweet a photo: two patients, next to each other in hospital beds, with arcs of tubing connecting them to the same ventilator. “This is what we are down to,” he wrote. “Splitting ventilators, and facing serious dilemmas like choosing who will be actually ventilated when everybody should. #TakeThisSeriously”

A month later, as caseloads skyrocketed across the pond in New York City, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital hurried to draft protocols for ventilator sharing. And around the same time, an emergency medicine doctor in Michigan named Charlene Babcock posted a YouTube tutorial featuring step-by-step directions on how to modify a ventilator so it can accommodate multiple patients. That video racked up nearly a million views in the ensuing weeks.

Foreign Affairs / Kenya governor under fire after putting Hennessy bottles in coronavirus package by chily11: 7:09am On Apr 18, 2020
Recipients of Nairobi politician Mike Sonko's Covid-19 care packages can expect to receive the typical food staples except for one item -- alcohol.

Sonko, the governor of the Kenyan capital city, Nairobi, confirmed in a media briefing on Tuesday that his care packages include a few small bottles of the cognac, Hennessy.
The governor justified the inclusion of alcohol as "throat sanitizer."

"I think from the research conducted by the World Health Organization and various organizations, it has been believed that alcohol plays a major role in killing the coronavirus," Sonko said in a video.

Politics / COVID-19: Atiku Pledges N50 Million Naira As A Relief Fund. by chily11: 5:00pm On Mar 25, 2020
Atiku Abubakar has pledged N50 million to a relief Fund that will form part of the stimulus package.

As the coronavirus pandemic ravages the world, I applaud the various Nigerian state governments who have proactively taken measures, such as issuing stay at home orders, and shutting down non-essential markets and other places of mass gatherings, while also giving guidelines for social distancing.

However, we must accept the fact that much of the Nigerian public have a subsistence existence. A large percentage of our people do not have the financial capacity to withstand long periods of self-isolation and even lockdown. It is, therefore, incumbent on the Federal and state governments to provide palliatives to the Nigerian people to enable them to survive, even as they abide by these necessary measures put in place for their safety.

At an approximate 30 million households or thereabouts, the government should devise modalities to distribute N10,000 as a supplement for foodstuff to each household, among other palliative measures, with no one left behind.
It is thus time for the National Assembly to reconvene in an emergency session, perhaps by teleconference (in line with the demands of social distancing), to legislate a Stimulus Package Act that will cater for all Nigerian citizens.

I also call on all Mobile Telephony Companies in Nigeria to urgently develop mobile money platforms so that the government can reach the unbanked with financial assistance. I also urge these telecommunications firms to offer each of the 100 million mobile phone lines in Nigeria free credit of at least ₦1500 per mobile line, so that Nigerians who show symptoms, or those who just want information, can call the nearest available health facility, or even an ambulance service, as the case may be.

I commend all individuals and corporate organisations who have one way or the other provided some form of relief for the Nigerian people. In essence, this is what makes Nigeria great, when we help each other at such crisis times as this, irrespective of any differences. I further call on more corporations and individuals with capacity, to assist the public in these trying times.

To this end, Priam Group pledges N50 million on my behalf as my humble contribution to a relief Fund that will form part of the stimulus package.

Religion / Pastor Introduces Anointed Pant And Bra With A Print Of His Face by chily11: 5:12pm On Jan 26, 2020
An Abuja based Pastor Dr. JS Yusuf has introduced anointed underwear with a print of his face to attract men for marriages for the single ladies seeking for life partners.

The anointed underwear is said to be blessed as instructed by God to the Senior Pastor of Touch for Recovery Outreach Int'l, Abuja to release marriages in the new year.

The underwear are said to also help women from women related diseases and give them good luck with men.

He added that wearing them will make men look at you on the streets and want to marry you.

He quoted Number. 23:20 which says "Behold I have received the commandment to bless; and he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse".

Politics / PDP Press Statement On Supreme Court Judgement by chily11: 10:16pm On Jan 14, 2020
Imo Guber Election: The @OfficialPDPNig is surprised at the judgment of the Supreme Court on the Imo state governorship election describing it as yet another very sad commentary on our nation’s democratic order.

The Party finds it difficult to understand how Senator Hope Uzodinma/APC, who came 4th in the March 9, 2019 governorship election, with just 96,458 votes, will suddenly, by the token of the judgment of the Supreme Court, defeat Gov Emeka Ihedioha/PDP that scored 276,404 votes.

In fact, the @OfficialPDPNig and indeed, most Nigerians are still at a loss as to understand the basis upon which the Supreme Court arrived at its decision.

The party says it is lamentable that the destiny of the people of Imo state is being taken from the governor they chose and voted for and handed over to individuals and a political party that do not have their blessing and mandate and which they rejected at the election.

The people of Imo state are now confronted with the challenge of having a government that they cannot identify with and which cannot connect with them, having not emanated from them.

Moreover, all the gains, including the development and stability already achieved by the people-based government, under Governor Emeka Ihedioha/@OfficialPDPNig administration in the state are now heavily jeopardized.

Indeed, the mournful and despondent ambience that now pervades in Imo state is a loud testimony that the judgment did not reflect the expectation of the people of Imo state as expressed at the polls.

While recognising that the judgment of the Supreme Court is final, the @OfficialPDPNig however urges all party stakeholders in the state to remain united and calm, and await further instruction from the national leadership on this very sad development.
