Omo, me I been in situation were I never chop for four forking days and I had a database full of my clients customers debit card details and authorization codes, with login access to paystack dashboard, but am proud to say I didn't do anything shady.

Dats one of the reasons why my clients got my back cuz I can be trusted.

Cuz other states are still behind and Lagos is like the tech hub of Nigeria.

Got my first real tech job in Lagos, I had to relocate. I really enjoyed working for the company the salary was fair & perks made sense. The boss was a socialite and very generous, meaning alot of enjoyment for staffs and TGIFs. Fun times.

It's hard to find a naija tech company that is fun to work with these days. Most bosses have gone greedy or wacko. If they exist in 2024, it will be 1 in a million, very rare.

Omo I love this post. The truth is, it's not easy to freelance in naija, hunger will beat you. People will take advantage of you, regardless of what you know or how good you are.

Number 1
You are working full-time for a company that pays well. I bash & curse naija tech companies alot cuz there are a lot that still pay 40k & 50k salary, but I know a few real ones that pay their developers well, they exist. Note, the highest salary or ceiling is 1M dats N1,000,000 or N1,500,000 naira for naija, qoute me if am wrong.

Number 2
Except you have strong contacts in high places to funnel good paying projects to you. E.g you know one big man with connections and he or she link you up to local gigs that are worth ur while. This one no be those useless gigs you see here on nairaland o.

Number 3
Except you work remotely for a foreign company. If you are lucky to land that gig, you're set.

Bottom Line
The Naija Programmers Or Developers that are making money and not broke are silent. They don't make noise cuz work won kill dem, dey don't have time to even enjoy the money that's the truth. If you see dem, you won't even know cuz dey don't have time to barb their hair or shave their beard....lol

So for instance you working for a company and all the projects you coded are in the company's private GitHub repository. You resign & sign non disclosure, and maybe * don't have time for personal projects while I was working for company "A", you'll now ask me to provide github link & judge me with it?

That's why I have been saying some Naija know, know tech gurus or whatever are just sooo DUMB as fork & very stupid. They think very narrowly atimes, na only Python & React full their head.

Programming is just like joining puzzle pieces together. If you understand how to join the pieces together & a foundation of how each puzzle piece is made you are good.

Though there'll come a time when you need to show you're a real wizard by force, esp when you face some problems you can't see code on Google to copy & paste and your survival depends on it, you will code from your head by force that's if you're really a programmer, am not talking computer science graduate.
