Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by chimdilawson: 12:19am On Feb 21, 2017
Kashif:
Wow! What an ordeal! I empathise with you, but with all I have read above, that your transmission could be toast. Why on earth would they change the pump?? Anyway, that was a lie, because it is impossible without dropping the transmission. How is the fluid now? Burnt? You may have been better off not listening to your mechanic when he suggested service.

I am afraid you will need to replace it with the correct transmission - U151(13pin). That may be the real reason for selling the vehicle.
At the point of purchase, we noticed oil was dropping under the car, one was close to extreme left, that he said was steering oil pump ish and might need replacement if it isn't as a result of hose leakage, the other leak was more like at the middle, like directly under the position of the gearbox, he identified that to be gearbox oil pump/seal, and said changing the seal alone may not be the best option as it might leak again, and such leaking could lead to loss of ATF and subsequent frying of the transmission... All these conclusions from him led to the dropping of the transmission and all the fixes done on it that has now made it a jerk.. I drove the car myself on our way home before the seizure that occurred with the front legs, the transmission was smooth, I had driven like 30mins into the journey before the pot hole ish...

When the axle differential was dropped, he opened it and said oil was supposed to be inside, that lots of car users think the ATF also plays the role of the oil in axle differential, that the axle differential was dried up and got burnt, that as there was no lubrication so metal to metal grinding went on there until the pot hole incident then crashed it as a result of the impact from the shock..

After all him conclusions and fixes them, gearbox performance don bad!!! huh huh huh

You advise I stick with the 13pin, how much would it cost? Plus, can the 10pin be fixed? Perhaps I could place it for sale so I can add money to get the 13pin.. huh huh

They did dropped the gear, I was present when the supposed specialist came to pick it up to go change oil pump/seal, same time the axle differential guy came to pick the axle differential for repairs as well.. I wanted he let the gear guy fix it right there at his shop, but the gear guy said he has to take it to his own shop as the tools he require for the fix and all are over there.. I outrightly told my mechanic what if this tranny comes back not healthy? He said the gear guy would pay should he damage it....

Now who go pay na? Nobody.. .I'm just in a mess right now.. Prior to the cleaning of the filter or so that after which the car could now move and not stop moving upon accelerating after 10mins drive (when car heats up), he tried to check the ATF gauge when I arrived from the test drive, it was like a frying/severe burning was going on in there, smoke kept evolving from the opening where the ATF fluid is poured into, but that stopped after the cleaning of the filter, he said it was blocked with much debris and prevented air from going in blah blah.... Currently, this transmission is just not performing well....

The 13pin, how much would it cost to have it on this car? Thanks boss!
Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by chimdilawson:
Mr. Kashif, well done boss! I stumbled on this thread whilst searching on net for a forum that has useful info relating to gear issues, what more? This thread you created is undoubtedly the best! To think that you ain't really a mechanic but dedicated so much time to finding a solution to what transpired on your transmission, mehn, I'm perplexed! Your own engineer na talent/gift.. Lemme briefly narrate my ordeal.

So "recession" is here and a young man decided he should use his life savings so far to get a vehicle and make ends meet from transportation... I opted for a Sienna, tokunbo is quite on the high side, way above what I had, so Nigerian used was the alternative... So I saw this 2005 AWD Toyota Sienna on OLX, went along with a mechanic recommended by a friend to check the vehicle out, he drove it, said engine and transmission were good! "Minor services such as working on the suspension, changing steering oil pump and gearbox oil pump/seal", so I got the car.. Whilst driving down home, got into a pot hole with both legs on speed, 5 mins later, front legs sized whilst on speed (thank God it didn't result to an accident), tried moving the car and it kept on this struggling to move thing with a severe grinding sound, had to park and had it towed down the next day to his workshop. On getting there, started the car and discovered the seizure was not longer there and the car was moving normal front and back, told him it seems this ish was gone, he insisted it's a problem with "axle differential" and had to be worked on else it would repeat again.. Lemme cut this story, after spending so much for the fix of the axle differential, change of gearbox oil pump and the suspensions, now I went back to check on the progress, went for a test drive, it was a whole new problem huh When car was driven for like 10mins, it stops to move, would remain static, I kept firing and no way! Turned off engine, returned gear selection to neutral and pushed the car outta the road, turned on engine again and selected reverse, it moved, sent back to drive and it moved, back to the workshop, he called someone who's supposedly a gearbox specialist, and he recommended a filter should around the gear really don't know what that meant, should be changed or cleaned properly.. I came back the next day he said he had done that.. I went for a test drive again, now car doesn't stop moving on it's own, but I noticed too many abnormalities....

When I turn on the car and select reverse, it doesn't move, once I take it to drive and move forward a bit and then return it to reverse then it moves, the reverse can't/struggles to climb a hill, each time I transmit it, it makes this "giggi" strong sound, doesn't pick up fine from start but pick later and comes with a really rattling noise!

Help!!!! huh I'm feeling the transmission is ruined!

The mech guy said the gear is 10pin, that it comes with 13pin but it seems the previous owner prolly changed it to the 10pin..

Please I need your professional advise /suggestion, I reside in Port Harcourt... I'm afraid of taking it back to the mechanic guy as I feel they would destroy more things in course of repairs cos this ish started after the supposedly axle differential repairs..

slimmy05: Chimdilawson, its very hard to get visa with your profile. No working experience in aviation, this exactly was I was pointig out to one dude on here and he's of the opinion that I am threatening him.

You need prior experience in the aviation and a strong profile to be able to secure an M1 visa. Stewee has a good profile as he is going for pilot training and it takes a year or two.

Vocational training in aviation can be handled by Landover aviation and other credible aviation company. There is no biggie in the training, so if you're seeking further training your profile should be one that has 2-3years experience in aviation preferable in flight dispatching or baggage handling. Engaged if not married or single. The age is not a problem but not over 40years. Job awaiting you after completion.

So sorry about your denial. Get a better profile. Probably applied for a better aviation programme. I am of the opinion that even of you have immigrant intent, you don't need to make it so obvious with your profile. Make your profile very good, outstanding and convicing that there is no immigrant intent. NB: The VO already knows you're not coming back grin But don't make it obvious to them.
Lol! slimmy i gat it! I guess she tot I was not gonna come back, buh datz way far from it, am nat an intending Immigrant trust me! as far as am concern I only had intentions of training dia cos of d FAA license. Slimmy naija sweet o! I cant actually find any reason why I shud in the US if not for studies trust me, if na money making, diaz a lotta cash to be made in dis country! tanx all dsame bro! the denial did nat come as a shock to me tho, I knew it waz a two way tin, outta d thousands of persons applying, US Embassy will certainly not grant everyone visa, and trust me, all dey need its a lil or no reason to pass u the 214 (b) paper. I checked the LABS recently, finking of getting in dia, get a prior knowledge of the course, probably work for a couple of years before toeing stewees line.

juntod: Ah, you are on track. You have no gap to fill at all. You can do without the work experience. Letting them know about your NYSC program which will not be concluded until after your resumption date is risky. The one year gap between your graduation and now can be easily explained. You've been researching on good schools in the US and also preparing for the standardized tests.

But you may also want to put a voluntary job there if you have any means to back it up.
Itz actually not a standardised test required school or course, itz jez a 2 or 3 months training in aviation field. same school Stewee is in for. he's in F-1 Visa category while i am in M-1 category.

plz house I really do need ur advice and suggestions on this. I already scheduled an interview for September 15th, but I'm yet to submit my DS-160 form. and the reasons are as follows;
I dont know if I should fill that I am employed or not, the decision will be reached subject to your opinions. I am still on NYSC, I am actually not employed yet, so I dont know if my unemployment state will raise a red flag as I am considering filling that I am unemployed. on a second thought I was considering using NYSC as what I am doing currently, but the NYSC will terminate by October 16, my classes its supposed to start by October 13th, and I am making travel plan in respect to October 5th so as to meet up with the class on Oct. 13th. Now if I am to use NYSC, would it not raise a red flag considering the fact that I dont have a discharge letter yet to show for that and the date of the start of my classes happens to be before passing out of NYSC. The possible way to explain that to the VO would be if I have an approved letter from DG of NYSC stating that I am permitted to go, and the possibility of getting such approval letter is tiny considering the fact that it's not on health ground, besides I dont think there's enough time to wait for such approval letter if I should apply, so I was thinking of taking the NYSC thing out of the scene, and if I should take it out it means I am unemployed and doing nothing currently. So guys I really do need your advice and opinions on what to do about that. Which do u suggest I go with? unemployed or currently on NYSC? and plz do give me suggestions on how to maneuver either options. any advice and opinions are welcomed.
Thanks.
