Everybody got up at once, some searched for their phones in the bucket and they got it while some could not find their own. It was 5am when a group of DSS agents came to take the senator and his friends’ home, madame was shaken and lost for words while most of the staff left the club immediately with the remaining guests. Nobody wanted to wait for the sun to come up, everybody wanted to leave as soon as possible. I went to one of the rooms and brought my backpack and put the money inside it before I left the club without speaking to anyone, I got to my room and locked the door. I brought out the bundle and tossed it into my bag, I didn’t bother to look at the notes since it was not bulky besides I already calculated the amount to be about 50k. I lay down thinking of the ordeal I just went through until sleep came and I didn’t resist it.
Hunger woke me up and I had to go out and look for what to eat. I came back satisfied, took my bath before I checked the money I brought home. I looked at the bundle with shock, I had to wipe my eyes to be sure it wasn’t a dream. The bundle contained 100 dollar notes, I hid it under my pillow and checked to see if my door was locked, I also drew the curtains just in case someone was watching me. I felt excited and cold all of sudden, so many thoughts went through my mind and I wondered how I was going to change it because I had no idea how to do that. I hid it in a secure place and the next couple of days I rarely left my room except to the club when we were summoned for interrogation by the policemen who were assigned to investigate the robbery incident. We were interrogated twice and it seemed everyone had well-rehearsed lines except me, who kept adding and subtracting information. One of the policemen was a bit sympathetic, he felt I couldn’t cope with the trauma that came with the incident but I was scared that someone would accuse me of taking money. Some of the staffs resigned without waiting for their salaries while some had made up their mind to leave by the end of the month. The security men were always present at the interrogation so nobody could tell if any of them were among the robbers. I had no idea who was among them that day since I don’t easily recognize people’s voices. The club was shut down indefinitely while the investigation was going on, I had to rely on Justina to help me with the exchange but I didn’t tell her the amount, she even offered to go with me but I told her not to bother since she had already called person to let him to know I was coming. I took 200 and I was successful so I told the man to expect more some days later. I decided to leave and maybe travel to an African country with the funds I had. I wanted to be as far away as possible, Justina had told me about her relocation to Dubai but I wasn’t sure I wanted to hang around her again so I told her I wasn’t interested. It took me four weeks to get the necessary travel documents and I had to pack out when my rent expired. I sent the little furniture I had home and also visited my family but I didn’t tell them which country I was heading to yet……

The Red king did not reopen again and everybody was laid off. I didn’t bother to go and find out if I would collect any salary because Madame Nora traveled to London and no one knew when she would come back besides I had no time to do so because I was too busy with my travel plans, I decided to travel to Seychelles (that was what I could afford at that moment) and spend some time there before thinking of the next thing to do. The bouncers and bodyguards were brought together and handcuffed to two strip poles so they were helpless. One of the men took an empty ice bucket and ordered everyone to drop their phones inside it. Four men came in through the back door dressed in black with masks on their faces, they also had weapons and they brought some bags with them. They shook hands with the officers before two men got on stage to pack the money, I peeped at them until I felt I would be caught starring at them and lowered my head but it was too late, I felt a heavy boot land on my back. The person removed his feet and dragged me to the stage, he then ordered me to join the other men but they didn’t want me to join them but they could not stop me. I shivered as I put the notes into the bag without separating the foreign currency from the local one. I came across a bundle of notes but I didn’t want to put it in the bag, I concentrated on single notes scattered around. The men stopped picking for a while, they left me to finish up while they smoked, the lights went off all of a sudden and I took that as an opportunity to tuck in my t shirt and hide the bundle.
I was lying down on the floor when some of the lights came on because the current was low and the men laughed when they saw me before one of them ordered me to hurry up so that they could leave. I packed the remaining cash quickly and gathered the bags together, they had a slight quarrel on the sharing formula as the officers wanted a larger share. The other group wanted an equal share and then two of them spoke in a strange dialect which I recognized, I guessed that one of our security men was among them. They stopped arguing when they discovered that time was running out so they took some expensive phones from the bucket before they left the building.

A few days before the party, we were given new uniforms which consisted of a white t-shirt and black shorts. We had to buy white sneakers for the outfit and we also did the same hairstyle. A security company was contracted in addition to the available one on ground. The new commissioner for police was invited to the party so he was coming with his men. I counted the days wishing that the event would just come and go so that I could rest. The day finally came and all the staff were screened before they stepped into the building. I decided to come with my backpack that contained my uniform since I came too early. The bar manager ordered us to go and change immediately when a few security personnel came into the club, they came to check out the area for the event and to make sure the celebrant and his guests were safe. Everybody were on their feet most of the time before the guests started trooping in, the scent of expensive perfumes filled the air as the celebrant who was a former minister and now a senator came in with his entourage. All the mobile policemen who came with them were instructed to stay outside for a while. They were initially ushered into the VIP section but they chose to stay in the lounge. The Mc for event kept announcing the dignitaries that came in at intervals till he got tired and instructed to the DJ to play some music while we served them drinks. A big cake was presented to the Senator by Madame herself and he was visibly excited when he received it from her, more drinks flowed while the strippers were getting ready to thrill the guests. Justina was surprisingly absent and I did not bother to call her to find out why because I was too busy taking orders and serving drinks. We couldn’t run errands for them as usual because most of them relied on their P.As and their security details to get them anything they wanted. I felt a bit light headed so I sneaked out with a bottle of chilled coke to the back to receive fresh air. The security men were not around but I saw some mobile policemen patrolling the area. I stood at corner and drank my coke quickly before I went back into the building. Everybody seemed to be talking at once despite the loud music but they reduced their voices when the song “work” by Rihanna announced the presence of the strippers on stage. The ladies danced until the celebrant and some of his friends went to the stage to spray money on them. The other guests took it as cue to join them and the whole stage was littered with all types of currencies. As they were leaving the stage after dancing for an hour one of the cleaners used a long broom to pack the money to one side because the next set of ladies were coming out to dance. The next set of ladies danced to the voice of Wizkid, some ladies joined the men while they were spraying cash. A few minutes later some mobile policemen came into the club to escort the commissioner because he wanted to go home, he bid farewell to the host as he left the building with some of his friends and security escorts. A popular song brought everybody to the dance floor, madam even came out of her office with her bodyguards to join them and I didn’t want anybody to push me around so I decided to stay at the bar. Four mobile policemen came into the club, nobody paid them attention because they assumed some of the important guests were about to leave until they raised their guns and shot it in the air. Some of the guests screamed before they lay down while some tried to hide behind the chairs. Everything happened so fast that I couldn’t even look for a place to hide. I had to lie down when I saw everyone on the floor. The celebrant kept pleading as he was forced to lie down, one of the ladies wailed until one of the men hit her on her back with his gun and she kept quiet.

The robbery incident left me a bit traumatized and I wondered if working at the club was worth the risk but then if I wanted to quit the job there was no way I would go empty handed. My phone rang and interrupted my thoughts, Justina called to know how I was doing because she heard about the incident from reliable sources since she had already left when the robbers came. We spoke for a few minutes then I promised to visit her so that I could end the call. The club was shut down for some days before they reopened again. Everybody resumed work like nothing happened but some of them had lost the zeal to work. It took almost a week for the regulars and new customers to spend more time in the club. The next month Madame hired some exotic strippers to train Justina and her crew because a top politician had booked the entire club to celebrate his birthday. The club was given a new look as usual while all the staff had to wait after work every day for five days just to receive instructions from all the managers concerning the forth coming event. I wasn’t keen on working on that day considering the fact that I might not even make money that night and I tried to take permission to be absent but unfortunately I could not get it. I resigned myself to faith and obeyed all the rules set for us and adhered to all the instructions. I became a little anxious as the days went by because I had made up my mind to quit once the month ended. I didn’t care if I had any money, I just wanted out before I witnessed another horrible incident. I told Justina about quitting and she tried to pressurize me not to quit but my mind was made up.

They had bags which they used to pack the naira notes scattered all over the stage. While they were busy, three armed men came out from Madame's office dragging her along with one of her bodyguard. Two men from the stage went to VIP section but there was no cash, their strippers usually took most of the money sprayed on them. The ordeal lasted for almost an hour as they hurriedly stripped some of the guests of their money and phones before they left and everybody got up.

They flaunted their expensive phones and car keys at intervals just to show off. I had to attend to them dutifully to see if they would drop some cash for me. They went wild at some point, pouring champagne on the strippers while some sprayed cash as well. I didn't leave the room but i stood at a corner observing them because I didn't want to miss out on the money. They wasted most of the champagne they ordered on crazy games like dipping their expensive watches in their drinks to find out if it would stop working. They enjoyed themselves because they said they would come again and all of them gave me some money while they were leaving.
I was heading to the bar when I heard a couple of loud gunshots and some people screamed before someone ordered everybody to lie down on the floor. I was already on the floor shivering but I tried to look up a little and saw four men dressed in black heading to the stage.

The next few months had me asking myself how I was going to make more money while working at the club, I had thought of quitting when I found out that Madame had reduced the number of strippers and I was one of them but finding a good job seemed impossible. I had to replace a waitress who resigned because I had bills to pay meanwhile Justina retained her spot at the VIP section and when I asked her to "show me the way" she feigned ignorance while mumbling something about luck so I decided not to rely on her.
A group of young men came into the club during the weekend. It was their first time at the Redking and they were a bit clueless about where they would stay, they wore expensive hoodies, t-shirts, jeans and white sneakers. I ushered them into the VIP section since they looked like they were capable of paying the bill.
