Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo formally took over the leadership of the Villa Chapel on Sunday. The chapel was built by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The chapel had always been controlled by a president or vice-president of Christian faith as the political head, while the president’s or vice-president’s chaplain is the spiritual head. Former President Goodluck Jonathan would have handed over the chapel to Osinbajo penultimate Sunday when he attended service in the worship centre for the last time but for the vice-president’s absence. Osinbajo attended service in the chapel for the first time yesterday accompanied by his wife, Dolapo; Bishop Wale Oke of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries; Senior Pastor, Living Waters Unlimited Church, Pastor Ladi Thompson and other clergymen. The vice-president, who himself is a pastor, delivered a goodwill message to the congregation and did the benediction. He later proceeded to the children church where he prayed and took photographs with the children, along with members of his entourage. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/osinbajo-formally-takes-over-villa-chapel/210842/ |

Enockia:@bolded, that's your own definition & opinion bro. And your opinion is yours alone. It does not affect what happens in other families. If your sisters see no problem with marrying a man that feels emasculated if he enters the kitchen, that's their decision too. NB: I have no problem in ladies cooking or entering the kitchen . My displeasure lies with the "ideology" 'which I think that's what the op is pushing' that only the ladies should know how to cook. Cooking is a skill that everyone should endeavor to acquire not just a specific gender. |
agarawu23:Good enough. We all do the screening, just that our criteria might be different. As you are screening out the terrible cooks, the good cooks might also be screening you for same. |
lexy2014:Cook for boyfriend eeikwa? Have you stopped to think that:- Maybe that's how she was trained. Maybe she grew up in a house where cooking is not gender specific. Or maybe she grew up seeing her dad & brothers entering the kitchen like everyone else to cook for the whole family without feeling emasculated. Thing is, do what works for you and stop judging/criticizing how others live their lives. While you see it as a terrible thing another may see it as a normal necessary avenue for family bonding. |
agarawu23:Really Keep deluding urself. As long as you end up with someone who has a similar notion as yours, no wahala. |

One of the reasons many of us have financial challenges is because we don’t have an understanding of money. Our parents never taught us about it, and the schools totally overlooked this field of study. Our children therefore deserve better so we must commit to providing financial training for them. Various experts differ regarding when to start training children. Lessons should begin when a child starts to handle certain responsibilities in the home, which is usually from the age of five. During this time African children are taught mostly moral values, however money values should also be inculcated. Having financially illiterate children is costly in the long run due to the fact that: These children will end up continually demanding for financial assistance from their parents far into adulthood. They were not taught that all their wants cannot be met. They possess an entitlement mentality that manifests in them believing that their wants must be met always. Financially illiterate children are more likely to explore other means to acquire the resources that they require. They delve into crime and other vices to get money. They were not instructed on how to acquire wealth properly so they believe that anything goes when trying to make money. Resources given to them will be squandered away. They don’t understand the purpose of money, thus abusing money will be inevitable. Children must be taught right from early childhood that money does not fall from trees. Money is gotten as a result of labour. It is earned not wished for. They give money too much place in their lives. There are people whose every actions are guided by money, to the detriment of good relationships, peace and joy. Money has become their master and it determines their moods, attitudes and beliefs. There is more to life than having a lot of money, many who have lots of it are equally unhappy. Your children are unlikely to be of much help to you in retirement when you can no longer work as they will still be struggling to develop financially. It is a desire of many parents to expect support from their kids when they grow old. Children who can barely support themselves cannot support their parents. The predicament of living in lack and poverty will be transferred to the next generation of family members with the cycle repeating itself if the children lack financial literacy. Education is the best legacy you should leave your children, most especially sound financial education. The likelihood will be high that they will live a life devoid of meaning and purpose when they don’t understand finance. Lack is likely to birth frustration and anger towards others who have and to their parents who they may feel did not work hard enough to provide wealth for them. Wealth and riches abound in Africa, why else are African countries filled with plenty of foreigners looking for opportunity? Sadly we seem not to know what we have, precisely because we have not been properly equipped to create wealth. Wealth creation starts from the home. The truth is that parents cannot give what they do not have. The onus is therefore on you to start developing yourself financially so you can share this information with your offspring. It is your responsibility to ensure your children are put in a position to exceed your achievements and not be a burden to you later in life. An investment in your kid’s financial literacy will pay huge dividends in the future. ![]() The federal government on Tuesday commenced the distribution of N5 billion smoke-free cooking stoves meant for rural women across the country. The stove was launched at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa by the Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo. At the launch, he said the stoves would in no small measure reduce desertification in the country. Sambo equally noted that the stoves would boost job creation and reduce smoke related diseases among the rural women. “One of the important global problems today is environmental problem. And desertification in Nigeria is one of our major environmental problems. And as a result, one of the major causes is this problem of cutting the trees and using the wood as a source of energy for cooking. “This idea then came up to have alternative cooking device for our women. So, this programme, which Mr. President has graciously approved for the initial take off under the Environmental Ministry with the sum of N9 billion to procure these cooking utensils and distribute it all over the country to our women. “And by so doing, contributes to stopping the usage of trees for firewood for cooking. In addition to that, it has added the value of saving women from inhaling the smoke, which is responsible for the yearly death of about 90,000 women. “We believe this is a very important contribution towards arresting desertification in Nigeria” the vice-president said. The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laraba Malam, said only 15 percent of N5 billion amounting to N1.3 billion had been paid to the contractor for all the supplies so far made. “We have only paid 15 per cent to the contractor and he has supplied. There is no controversy about the cost of the contract. The truth is that Mr. President and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved N9 billion for 750,000 pieces of the clean stove. The minister stressed that the stoves will be distributed through the Ministry of Environment in every state of the federation and the local governments. The prices of the stoves locally assembled in Nigeria ranges between N3,000 and N36,000. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-commences-distribution-of-n5bn-smoke-free-cooking-stoves/210385/ |

Attention, Although long thought of as a man’s disease, heart disease afflicts as many women, though women tend to develop and die from it about 10 years later. And while coronary mortality rates have declined over all, there are signs that the disease, its precursors and its potentially fatal consequences are increasing among young women. A 2007 study in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology referred to the rise in cardiovascular risk factors among young women as “the leading edge of a brewing storm.” While so many women worry about cancer, only slightly more than half realize that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More women in the United States die from cardiovascular causes — heart disease and stroke — than from all forms of cancer combined. Numerous campaigns by the American Heart Association and other organizations have raised awareness among women of their mostly self-inflicted risks and of symptoms that are typically far more subtle in women than in men. “Even if they believe they’re having a heart attack, 36 percent don’t call 911,” said Dr. Holly S. Andersen, director of education and outreach at the Perelman Heart Institute at Weill Cornell Medical College, citing the latest heart association national survey. “Women are more likely to wait when they have symptoms and, when they get to the hospital, say that they have indigestion, not chest pain — a big mistake.” Rather than crushing chest pain, women in the throes of a heart attack more often experience discomfort in the neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdomen, dizziness, nausea, right arm pain, shortness of breath, and sweating or unusual fatigue. Almost two-thirds of women who die suddenly of a heart attack had no prior symptoms. Doctors too often fail to take a woman’s risk seriously and treat it aggressively, or to provide adequate recommendations for prevention, Dr. Andersen and other experts say. “This is especially true for young women,” she said. Yet, she added, “among women between the ages of 29 and 45, it looks like the incidence of heart disease is rising.” There are ample reasons. Stress, for example, is a known, though not often cited, risk factor, “and the youngest women in this country are more stressed than ever,” she said. “They’re always ‘on’ and self-comparing.” Smoking — marijuana as well as cigarettes — is a coronary risk. And while smoking has declined among older women, “young women are the ones still smoking,” Dr. Andersen said. Women on birth control pills who smoke are especially at risk. Two other major risk factors, obesity and diabetes, are more rampant than ever, especially among Hispanic women born in the United States, half of whom develop diabetes by age 70. When women with high levels of artery-damaging LDL cholesterol are prescribed statins, the treatment often provides “false reassurance” that the drugs “can compensate for poor dietary choices and a sedentary life,” Dr. Rita F. Redberg, a cardiologist at the University of California, San Francisco, and editor of JAMA Internal Medicine, wrote last year. In one study she cited, “statin users significantly increased their fat intake and calorie consumption, along with their B.M.I. (body mass index), in the last decade. Focusing on cholesterol levels can be distracting from the more beneficial focus on healthy lifestyle to reduce heart disease risk.” A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which contain natural antioxidants that statins don’t provide, is more important, Dr. Andersen said. “So is getting regular aerobic exercise, spending time with friends and getting a good night’s sleep — six to eight hours,” she said. “Chronic lack of sleep doubles the risk of heart disease.” Coronary risk is also greater among women who carry extra weight around the abdomen — the so-called apple shape. Abdominal fat is metabolically active and can result in high blood pressure and diabetes, even if a woman is otherwise slender. “One’s waistline is more important than B.M.I.,” Dr. Andersen said. “Skinny people with big waists are less likely to live long.” Depression and lack of social support, more common among older women, are also often underappreciated risk factors. “Social isolation is detrimental,” she said. “Women who regularly spend time with close friends live longer and have less heart disease.” A positive outlook on life — laughing a lot, having a sense of humor, being optimistic and seeing the glass as half full — is also protective, Dr. Andersen said, adding that “15 minutes of laughter is equivalent in preventive value to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.” Although “marital stress increases a woman’s risk of coronary heart disease,” having a compatible partner or a pet is beneficial, she said. Several factors that women may experience early in life, especially two pregnancy-related conditions — pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes — have been linked to a greater coronary risk years later. Additional risk factors now emerging for women include migraines with aura and inflammatory diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Two other conditions more prevalent among women cause symptoms that are often overlooked by them and their doctors as likely due to heart attack. Women are more prone to develop blockages in the small vessels that feed the heart, which can cause pressure or tightness in the chest rather than crushing pain, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. They are also far more susceptible to “broken heart syndrome” brought on by events like the sudden loss of a loved one, the loss of a job or money, divorce, a bad accident, a natural disaster, or even a surprise party. The resulting intense stress reaction of chest pain and shortness of breath, although usually temporary, can mimic a heart attack, though it rarely causes one. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/04/13/young-womens-hearts-at-risk/?_r=0

The Inspector General of Police (IG) Task Force charged with enforcing the ban on police checkpoints, yesterday arrested two policemen on illegal checkpoint duty at the Okota area of Lagos. The IG, Solomon Arase, had as one of his cardinal progrmmes pledged to clear police checkpoints, even as he deployed 16 teams nationwide to enforce the ban. The incident which was witnessed by THISDAY, saw the patrol team swoop on the three policemen at their illegal checkpoint duty. The policemen dressed in camouflage, had parked their motorcycle in front of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) as they stopped vehicles for stop-and -search, as well as fleeced them before releasing them. Probably acting on a tip-off, the enforcement team stormed the area and immediately gave a chase as the three policemen made to flee on one motorcycle. As the policemen fled, they released shots into the air to scare motorists to clear the way for them to escape. While one policeman was left behind, the second fell off the speeding motorcycle and the two were promptly arrested and transferred to the patrol vehicle. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ig-taskforce-arrests-two-policemen-on-illegal-checkpoint-duty/210203/ |
