lastpage: I have decided to maintain a "dignified silence" on this issue (thats why l said encore, in my post) and as a show of respect to other posters like George_D, who has sued for peace on more than a few occasions.
Whether the other party and his "Otimkpu's" like 'that one' who was not bold enough to come out and abuse me face-to-face, will let the matter rest, is another scenario.
Like someone said, "I rest my own case too" Why are you still replying if your talking about dignified silence?? Why not stop all this?? |

Politics › Re: Is The Average Nigerian An Ethnic And Religious Bigot? by Choco5: 3:07am On Jan 09, 2010 |
Kobojunkie: Up North? Are you joking? See this is the sort of thing that brings up these issues. You don’t just have to look up north for these problems cause they are all over the country.
We all want to believe life is a bed of roses as well but that ain’t the case. By the way, your statement about the politicians is actually FAR from the truth. They FEED the people what they believe the people want in this case. The only reason a POLITICAL bigot will get elected is if there are people out there who back him and they are all over the place. Under millitary rule, it rarely mattered what ethnicity you were from but as soon as we talked of having equal rights, everyone decided their ethnicity ought to matter.
You know what? I will just take it that you are ONLY here to tell us what you think of this, right? I mean do you really want to know what the average Nigerian is all about. If yes, take a LOOK at the people around you; ask the PROBING Questions and WATCH THEM BE THEMSELVES. If NO, then it is OK for one to continue to ASSUME those around us are exactly the way we imagine them. But come on, do you really believe that the reason there is corruption, bigotry etc in all places in Nigeria is simply because a MINORITY want it that way?
It is sort of like coming on here to open a thread asking if the average Nigerians is living in poverty, or not but then going ahead to conclude that is not the case when the evidence seems OVERWHELMING that that is the case.
Now, I am not saying you are wrong or the sort but I am saying sometimes it is best to look around and accept things as they really are. I grew up in the same Lagos, and I am not a Lagosian by birth but I can tell you that from Primary School on, I heard it; I even saw and experienced it. I definitely denied it often but I could not shake the reality. It’s in the people, even my own people, and it is not something that just goes away. Even in my own house, we have em. It is just there. Families were ruined by it, and continue to be, and what you see here on nairaland is people FREELY telling you what they would normally hide from you.
I have come to respect that people will always have these views as long as we continue to place so much importance on such. Even here in America, you meet people daily whose words will tell you almost immediately that they are not only Nigerians but Nigerians from a specific area of Nigeria. Even Americans who have an idea of the Nigerian issue are quick to ask you what part of the country you are from. Many of them have come to realize it is OF GREAT importance to establish that association for some reason. Seriously, I have never heard anyone of them ask an Indian what part of india he/she is from, lol .
Some of the bigots you meet here on nairaland are professionals, who wear suits and ties and act as if they are above it all. But reality is they are not, and that should tell you a bit of what you know of the average Nigerian mind. What do ethnic bigots look like? They look like average Nigerians; they look like you and I, and act like normal average people do. Most of these dudes are Masters, PHD holders, who have experienced life in Western world and know what it means not to care much of ethnicity but they still choose to make theirs all and all.
We all saw what happened in South Africa, Kenya and even Zimbabwe only recently. Nigeria is not immune to the same and we know this. I am not saying we should MAKE IT ALL but just being aware of it is not a bad idea. This fool is not even in Nigeria! |

Politics › Re: Nigeria Classified Amongst 14 Terrorist Nations - CNN by Choco5: 7:03pm On Jan 04, 2010 |
The State Department lists four countries as those that sponsor terror: Cuba, Sudan, Syria and Iran.
The other 10 countries of interest are Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen, the government official said.
Look at the bolded words. Nigeria is among countries of interest, not terrorist nations. Lets be factual. |

I guess now that all American citizens going to America should be searched and added to that list they put Naija on.
The only way they can change the worlds view of them is by changing their foreign policy of us versus everybody, and lies. Economic power means nothing if everyone you know is trying to harm you. Israel is a relatively rich country that is surrounded by enemies, constantly living in fear. |

naijaking1: In the US, they say the 2 things you can't burn are the dollar bill and your trash. I was in Lagos and Abuja last week, and I saw people frequently gather their trash in front of their houses/stores, set it on fire, and then sit back and inhale the very toxic trash they were trying to discard. Do we need a white man to "insult" us into knowing that our own trash is going to kill us? No. I have a whiteman here who needs his arse to be cleaned. Come and wipe his arse for him you goon! |

naijaking1: The whole issue of desert encroachment would have been improved if only our policy makers would take just one credit hour of ecology. Not just the whiteman, but anybody flying from America or Europe would immediately notice the man-made desert we're creating all around Nigerian cities in the name of development. Even Abuja, with it's purported modern planning looks bad from the air and much worse when you land. Today is a new day. Go and thank the whiteman for giving you a new day. Goon |

naijaking1: The general Nigerian attitude to problems vs the problems themselves, I don't know which is worse. Somebody tells you, hie, you have a piece of leaf hanging from your teeth since yesterday, instead of thanking him for reflecting the obvious, we spend a huge amount of time, energy, and even money attacking the person. First, we attack the way he reminded us that our tooth is dirty, then launch an attack on him and possibly his family too, finally, we disagree with the manner he spoke. We do everything but pull the dirty leaf from our teeth, rinse our mouth, and correct the problem. Subsequently, the leaf continues to decay, rotten and possibly subject us to disease as we spent energy in the wrong direction. If it takes a whiteman, a foreigner, or an alien to remark that our town planning efforts are actaully detrimental to our own very existence by way of not having enough greenery to absord carbon dioxide, release oxygen, check erosion, and reduce the impact of thunder storms, then so be it. It's possibly only in Nigeria that government official routinely ignore environmental impact of trees, vegetation, and other ecological enhancements. Thank a whiteman for bringing this up. You are a naijaking? Why not thank a whiteman for giving you life and the air you breath, you goon? |
