Haha! You should to insult me but you ridicule yourself. India is bigger than Germany, France, Israel, US, UK etc. Binis were bloody warriors. They beheaded 3 or 4 whitemen and sent the others back to tell the story thats why the british came in all their might. They had fucking balls. Did you know the notorious northern jihad got there from Kwara (if I’m not mistaken) and were defeated?? And thats the background story of how some part of it are moslems My people read! This is where the Binis have it going. Their history is too solid. In the whole South, it is unravelled. They do not have any written text but you see all those arts and sculpture of theirs They’ve all got meanings and tell stories dating as far back as 500 years ago. No tribe in the south has that. People pay good money in Germany and Uk to go and learn their history in museums. Walkee: 5 Likes 2 Shares |

If you remove him you still have to puck from the ruling family. All of them are brothers. You’ll only replace him with one of his brothers. That would be an effort in major futility. Emilokoiyawon: 1 Like |

These things dont just happen. They have an origin. Any student of history understands this. That the whole world wear suit now doesn't mean it belongs or it came to everyone at the same time. It has an origin!!! Komu1048: 1 Like |

Haha! Even the Oba of Lagos and all the ruling families knows they’re from bini. The oba of lagos had a clash with the ooni years ago and declared his allegiance is to the throne in Benin and not Ife. Do a google search. Unless they have pulled it all down but anyone who was old enough then and abreast of the issues will confirm this here! Emilokoiyawon: 2 Likes |

History discuss that ends in the us vs them debate is always worthless and thats where this is headed. All of these happened years ago and hold no significance now but we must speak it as it is for proper understanding not to soothe any ego. Even within the yoruba, all of you ondo/ekiti and even lagos are not really seen as proper yorubas. You have to travel to places like ibadan and kwara to understand this. Have you sat to ask yourself what is the reason. Food is an important part of culture, why is everyone of the same ethnic stuck dressed differently or eating differently. There are cogent reason for the mind that wants to learn. The complex contrast in your indigenous languages is also telling. No one is trying to take anyone’s identity away. Even the great bini empire is now a minority now. Its just about understanding our past. Komu1048: 4 Likes |

We are saying mostly the same thing. I cant tell who the portuguese met first but history has it they first landed in Lagos. They probably met the king their who is a descendants of the bini throne. I use the word ‘is’ because they are still the kings in Lagos. There has never been a shift since they took power in Lagos. Techguy96: |

When you conquer an area, you don’t have to go into every of its towns and villages to do so. Once you attack and capture its seat of power, it’s considered that you have captured the whole area under the influence of that power. It is for a reason that the Oba of Lagos is in Eko yet he is not called Oba of Eko but Oba of Lagos. But the Oba of badagry is called Oba of badagry not Oba of Lagos. Now do you get? zinizta: |

Can you avail me your source please. Why do you think that a lot of Ekiti/Ondo culture tilts towards the Edos other than the yoruba? Even the Iyan they eat or claim as theirs is Edo’s food. The core yorubas are known for Amala, lafun etc. Even their indigenious language is arguably Edoid. Christistruth00: 3 Likes |

On a second thought: “ The Roman Catholicism, through the Society of the African Missions, came in 1862. The ex-slaves were organized and stations established in Lagos and Abeokuta. When the Italian Priest, Father Broghero, visited Lagos in 1863, there was a catholic church in Yorubaland.” golddust6000: |

Hahahahahahaha! So what war brought catholic to the SW & SS. Even the first church in Nigeria was in Abeokuta. Christianity was first brought in by the Portuguese but they didnt set up any church. Go and read extensively. This is not to bring down as tribe or people. It is what it is. The Christianity in Nigeria today came through the Church of England! golddust6000: 2 Likes |

Leave the Yoruba & focus on this one - Itsekiri. This is what the Britannaca had to say about the Itsekiri: “The Itsekiri live on the coast in an area of extensive mangrove swamps and freshwater wetlands. ... Myths of origin establish that Ginuwa, the Itsekiri founder and first olu (king), was originally a prince of Benin, so that subsequent kings are descendants of the oba of Benin.” If you please and wish to discuss, create a separate thread on the relationship between Edos & Yoruba. I’ll meet you there! jneutron4000: 2 Likes |

Haha! Dreamer. Who did you conquer and took as slaves? What battles did you fight? Did you even have an established monarchial system? When the British came, while the Binis fought and stood firm, didn’t you bend over and took it all? Or why do you think the catholic culture and priesthood is well rooted in igbos than anywhere else in the south even though they crossed several southern tribes to get to you. You couldn’t resist, after you heard of the fall of your masters - bini throne to the British, you bent over easily. You took it all. Hardfacts234: 9 Likes 1 Share |

Even the Itsekiris were under the Bini. Reno is being smart by half for saying the Itsekiri and the Binis. It was actually the Binis. The Bini empire was the only one in Nigeria the Portuguese and later the British referred to as ‘Great’ in all of their text. Its influence spanned into the south west to present day lagos, ondo & ekiti, beyond the river Niger up to the kalabari and even cross rivers. Its was for the untainted loyalty of the king in calabar to the Bini throne that he choose to be banished there by the British. AfricanColumbus: 143 Likes 12 Shares |
