N’Assembly committee to lay PIB report on Tuesday
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, yesterday, said Nigeria is a poor nation that has no option but borrow to fund infrastructure development.

He said such requests would be subjected to thorough scrutiny by the parliament before approval, to ensure the use of the loan is monitored via an oversight arrangement.

The lawmaker further indicated that there were other outstanding issues requiring the attention of the parliament including the need to consider the President’s request for a loan before the Assembly proceeds on its summer break.

“We also have the loan request from Mr. President. The request is to fund the 2021 Appropriation Act and, of course, this is not a new request. It’s something that we had passed in the MTEF and it’s something that when we passed the 2021 budget, we also passed that.

“So, it’s only to give the necessary legislative approval for the administration to go further and collect the funds.” he said

He said: “Whenever we have to approve any loan, we have to insist on the details of what projects will be funded by those loans. We’ll have to look at the conditions that are attached to the loans. They must be favourable conditions before we approve and we will be up to date with our oversight, to ensure that what we have approved is directly deployed and on those projects that we have also approved for implementation.”

On the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), Lawan explained: “At the moment, we are dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s on the PIB. And by the grace of God, our committees, the joint committees, will finish their work on it by the end of the week, hopefully. The reports would be laid on Tuesday in both chambers.”

The wife of the late Nigerian pastor and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Evelyn Joshua, is poised to become the head of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

The church's elders met recently and declared Everlyn as the successor to the Nigerian televangelist TB Joshua .

“Someone must take charge immediately and give spiritual direction on the mode of service continuity. So much spiritual and financial efforts went into building SCOAN and it cannot just waste away,’’ a top aide said. Evelyn met the late pastor in 1990 when she had traveled Egbe to visit her sister.

The two were married for 25 years and they had three children.

It was further reported that she had gone to meet him for counseling and spiritual guidance.

TB Joshua proposed to her on the same day they first met after a 45-minute session.

Evelyn would later marry the self-proclaimed prophet to become second in command of the Synagogue, Church of All Nations.

Local Nigerian media estimate TB Joshua's networth at $10million, placing him among the top richest pastors on the continent.

Apart from preaching, Evelyn also offers counseling among the church followers.

The two were married for 31 years and have three children until his death on June 5, 2021 .

Family sources say the leader will be at his church in Ikotun, Lagos state.

The distributed statutory revenue of received for May was lower than the previous month by N69 billion.

The Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) on Wednesday said it shared a total of N605.958 billion as May 2021 revenue to the Federal, States and Local Governments as well as other relevant agencies.

Charles Nwodo, Director, Information, Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, in a statement in Abuja, said the amount was shared during a virtual conference of the committee.

The committee, in a communique, noted that the N605.958 billion shared included cost of collection to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The committee also stated in that the Federal Government received N242.120 billion, the states got N194.195 billion while the LGs received N143.742 billion.

It added that the oil producing states received N26.901 billion as derivation (13 per cent of mineral revenue).

According to the committee, the Gross Revenue available from the Value Added Tax (VAT) for May 2021 was N181.078 billion as against N176.710 billion distributed in the preceding month of April 2021.



This resulted in an increase of N4.368 billion.

It said: “The distribution is as follows; Federal Government got N25.260 billion, the States received N84.202 billion, and Local Government Councils got N58.941 billion.

“The distributed Statutory Revenue of N428.198 billion received for the month was lower than the N497.385 billion received for the previous month by N69.197 billion, from which the Federal Government received N175.541 billion, States got N89.037 billion, LGs got N69.644 billion, and Derivation (13 per cent Mineral Revenue) got N24.666 billion.”
