RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT IMPLEMENTS FULL MINIMUM WAGE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

- Sets up Tripartite Committee to Address all Pending Labour Concerns

The Government of Rivers State has stated that it has agreed with the Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), to address all pending labour concerns in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, said that an agreement on the implementation of the National Minimum Wage of N30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Naira) which took effect on 1st January, 2020 has been executed.

The Secretary to the State Government disclosed this in a press statement after a meeting between State Government and Labour in Port Harcourt on Friday, 12th February, 2021.

According to the Secretary to the State Government, a Tripartite Committee to undertake detailed discussions of all outstanding issues has also been set up.

The SSG said, “Rivers State Government has agreed and commenced implementation of the payment of check-off dues and the payment of arrears of salaries of Health workers in the Rivers State Public Service who participated in the sympathy strike of 2017 under the auspices of JOHESU.

“Other issues which were raised by Labour such as: Need for payment of arrears of minimum wage, Promotion of civil Servants from 2012, Payment of gratuity to pensioners, Payment of arrears of salaries to some civil servants who were not paid their February and March, 2016 salaries due to the aborted 2016 biometric verification exercise etc," he said.

According to the SSG, several other matters will be discussed in details by the tripartite committee.

“The tripartite committee is to commence sitting immediately for a period of six weeks after which a report will be submitted to the Government," he said.

The meeting was attended by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Rufus Godwins, Esq. On the part of Labour Union were the Chairman of the State Labour Congress, Mrs Beatrice Itubo, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Pastor Jonah Austin, Chairman of the Joint Public Negotiating Council, Mr Emecheta Chukwu and other labour leaders.

The tripartite committee will resume sitting next week.

Her appointment is with immediate effect.

Many subjected to rigorous mental exercise to get confirmation letter as files can't be found, the one found documents missing! Who removed them?. The non-indigene! Thank God for God! I think you have to pay for the stuff before you got it. What about the medical certificate you submitted during documentation!?the only board where embargo is on transfer for someone in a ppa for, more than 9 years whereas secretly some are being moved.... Those who need it may not get it even if their bidding is done..... Let there be complete dissolution and flushing away....we crops of administrators for repositioning in the fear of God...

Governor Wike dissolves Board of Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dissolved the board of Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board with immediate effect.

The leadership of the board has been directed by the Governor to hand over to the most senior civil servant in the board.

I just spoke with my aunt who attended the NUT meeting yesterday. She said the State Chairman asked teachers not to embark on industrial action and teachers present in the meeting became angry and informed him that a teacher just died the previous day from illness because there was no money for his treatment and that their children have stopped schooling. In the midst of the chaos, the Rivers State Accountant General called the NUT Chairman who now put his phone on loudspeaker for all to listen. The Accountant General apologized for not picking the NUT Chairman's calls or replying his texts. He also apologized for not paying the 2 months arrears this week because he wasn't in Rivers State but they will pay us the 2 months arrears next week. Teachers present agreed to give them only next week before embarking on industrial action and that the strike will involve all teachers whether paid or unpaid.

I felt like crying when I had the Rivers State Govt through the education comm. Saying they are not owing any teacher...... I hope some of us have now see the difference between Wike and Amaechi..... I will forever remain grtful to Amaechi.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) and her cohorts plotting to transplant the Edo State rigging model in Rivers State will fail as the people of the state will resist them.

He stated: "Anyone planning to steal our mandate will be resisted. Nobody can intimidate us. They will rig themselves into the water".

He spoke on Wednesday while flagging off the reconstruction of Bonny Jetty at the Bille/Bonny/Nembe Waterfront in Port Harcourt.

The governor stressed that INEC and pliant security agencies will not be allowed to use the Edo governorship election model in Rivers State.

"I hear some persons celabrating that they will repeat what they did in Edo State, here in Rivers State. Somebody who is suffering from malaria can say anything. But nobody will use the police to rig the rerun elections in Rivers State

"If you want to take our mandate by force, you will go by force. All the people of Rivers State must remain vigilant. INEC may want to take us unawares ", Governor Wike said.

On the flag off of the reconstruction of Bonny Jetty, Governor Wike said that the project is aimed at developing a quality water transport jetty where safety and security is promoted .

He said that the reconstruction of the jetty is in fulfilment of the pledge that he made to the people of the area during the electioneering campaign.

He said: "The day I came here to inspect this facility, I wept because of the condition of the jetty. We will develop it into a modern jetty.

"All the roads in the township suburb will also be rehabilitated by Julius Berger."

Governor Wike while asking the residents of the area to support the contractor to deliver the contract on schedule, he charged the contractor to employ the residents of the area in the course of reconstruction work.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Transport, Mr Akie Fubara said the Bonny Jetty will have a new jetty walkway and platform, terminal building housing arrival and departure lounges, improved driveway, retention wall and enhanced car parks.

Managing Director of Raffoul NigeriaLimited, Mr Hana Raffoul assured that the jetty will be constructed in line with international standards.

Thousands of residents turned out to welcome Governor Wike and celebrate the project. The Bonny Jetty was to left to degenerate several years after it was constructed.

It is the main gateway to Bonny and Bille in Rivers State and Nembe in Bayelsa State.

May God direct whom ever that is incharge and responsible for our remaining 4,5&6 months salary to pay all our money between today Wednesday, 14/SEP/2016 and next tomorrow Friday, 16/SEP/2016.

Indeed many of us have a lot of bill to settle like; debt owes to friends, house rent, children school fees and others.
How can we maintain this our noble profession effectively with huge bill hanging round our neck?
