I think Nigerians can be funny and at worst careless with words sometimes. I don't know who the poster is but from his question he sure needs some education on what a financial crime is or is not. For example, the guys charged with oversight in UK,Europe and America banking system under whom the banks collapsed.Where they ever charged to court or arrested for being negligent?Citigroup,Royal bank of scotland,Northern Rock,Lehman Brothers all had big financial issues but the Federal reserve and the Bank of England respectively couldn't do much to stop them from caving in.Lehman brothers is dead but nobody said Alan Greenspan or Mervin King of UK should be arrested. And somebody is saying Soludo should be arrested. Please my advice for you is to go and read up and learn more about the world around you.Nigerians most times cloud politics with common sense.I use to have respect for this EFCC and CBN guy but it's clear they are simple guys and not really intelligent as i thought they were. Why do i say so? Reason is because it is not a criminal offence to default on a loan,if a loan or debt facility is non-performing,the rules are clear on what to do and not to criminalise them by threatening them with prosecution and jail. You freeze their assets(collateral) by obtaining a court injuction. It has nothing to do with crime please. It's not different to obtaining mortgages and borrowing with credit cards. If a debtor defaults,it doesn't call for sending him/her to jail because it is not a financial crime.Unless we run a different system in Nigeria.I stand to be corrected though. |
@Poster Onovo is not the acting IG he is the Inspector General dude. |

@MUZBO so what makes you think Nigeria cannot do what INdia and China have done too. Just listen to your line of reasoning:The English incoporated Greek/Latin into their language in the sciences, the Chinese worked/incoporated theirs too, same with Indians and then Nigeria should be an exception. You believe Yoruba, hausas are too lame to do the same things the chinese,English etc did. Think again my friend I understand you,we believe in ready-made goods,ready-made life,ready-made everything,ready-made foreign language. TRy and manufacture your own and the world will respect you for once Funny, |
@nameoh But what makes you think that india is secured. INdia just recently recorded the biggest coporate fraud bar Madoff this year. Go and research about Satyam Computer services ltd and then weigh it up with your security excuses. Insecuirty has so much in connection with corruption and India is almost at par with Nigeria in terms of insecurity. Infrastructures are the main problem dude |
@MUZBO you haven't answered my question about chinese, japanese,Hindu languages that are being used to teach science in their various countries. are they English, greek or Latin?Your so called original science languages. You have to weigh things up before you speak or write. |
@wavemasta My point is that good command of English is not a sign of a sound educational system Even your so called Profs, where they taught in English language? You might want to go and ask them. First things first. Its not about getting jobs with English. Just like a poor command of English will deny you a job in Nigeria. There is currently an international job interview going on now. ANd the interview is,where should we outsource our business to including customer service. Your country Nigeria keeps failing the interview even though we speak better English than India and Philipines. Why have we failed ihe job interview? Because we have no basic infrastructures and facilities. The educational system is poor.I repeat poor English command is not sign of a bad educational system. It goes beyond that. |
@eldee so why do the French and the English train up there kids in their indegenous languages. you need to find a system that works for you. That's how original people think. The West sells the idea of capitalism, privatisation and open market to you lots knowing quite well you don't even understand the pricipiples. You will always coma back to them begging. While China is proving the West wrong by running a State-sponsored economic system that best suits their millieu. I don't see the reason why Hausa should not be used in state house of assemblies in the North,Yoruba in the east etc.It will make them more effective in their business than using English.Even here in Britain whom we always like to copy, the Welsh assembly is run in the WELSH language in spite of their long affinity with England. If you leave your language only for informal purposes and not for official/formal purposes too then it will die a natural death. Common sense should tell you that. The rest of the world have long understood that and the most populous black nation is yet to see that.Shame |
@Uchek That's another crap from you. Is it poor English skills that made our politicians to always loot the treasury and leave the country's infrastures in dire state? Corruption has brought us to where we are and not our poor English skills dude. |
@MUZBO so can you tell me what i=the original language of science is? is it English? You need to travel out to know what is happening in the world today. Most Indian graduates applying to UK schools translate their transcripts from Hindu to English.Same with China and the rest. So do you want to tell me Hindu was the original language of science? Thats crap coming from you. Language is dynamic and evolves. We can inculcate those science terms into ours if need be as long as you communicate your idea. That's the spirit. English borowed heavily from the Romance languages(Spanish,French,Latin) So there is no ill in borrowing. |
@proudlynaija if you take a look at the BRIC nations(Brazil,Russia,India,China) which together represent the emerging economies. what do you find common in all of them? The language they use for business is their local language.Nigeria has many strong spoken and written languages when compared to Brazil who are more or less a predominantly Portuguese speaking people. I am yet to see a major economy in the world that developed using a language it struggles to understand and communicate with. Look at Asia and tell me how many of the former British colonies that do not use their own language or at least put a local language alongside English in the running of schools and business.Malaysia?Indonesia? India? Hong Kong? When will you learn that as you develop you have to carry your language along? What i am saying is that it doesn't really matter if a graduate can speak/write well in English. What matters is his REAL value to the economy.what can he produce? Can he contribute to the development of policies for the government? Can he design, use and deploy the latest technologies that drive the modern economies today? These should be your yardstick for rating a graduate and not the ability to speak/write English. |
@poster Good English language skills is not the hallmark of a sound educational system. You really need to change your mentality because that is how slaves think. Indians are very bad at speaking/writing the so called English language yet, India today is the world's back office inspite of there poor English. China has the fastest growing economy yet they don't speak English. I live in London and i can categorically tell you that even the ENGLISH themselves do not know how to read and write properly but nobody will accuse of them of being less intelligent or endowed than those who can read and write properly. Please understand that English is not our first language. Nobody cares if you can speak and write English when you can't even afford the basic necessities of life like electricity, good roads and affordable primary health care. You were sent to university not to learn how to speak/read/write English like the Queen but to acquire the skills needed to place Nigeria in the world map like technology, science, financial skills etc I for once advocate that universities start teaching science with local languages or even pidgin so that communication can be opened up and knowledge can easily be transfered. Others like India and China are doing that already. Those candidates with poorly written CV could be dedicated, intelligent and hardworking candidates. It is not a sign of inferiority when you can't speak the language of the Imperialists. |
Nigerians can be funny. You just got Internet a few years back and you are calling Nipost out-dated.Meanwhile the people who had Internet and emailing before you are still using effetive postal services. You need to step out of the prison called Nigeria and travel out to advanced countries to know the place of postal services to modern society. It is still relevant guys,it has been evolving with time dear. I thought the thread should have been "how to make Nipost work better?" Funny people. @poster Postal services do much more than posting your letter(s) okay. Goodluck. |
@Meldrick I would recommend NIIT for you.I don't know how good they are at the moment.I had my first exposure to Oracle and Java in 2003 with them. But most of what i know today was from dogged self-practice and reading of books in Oracle and Linux administration. I will suggest you first go for a training because there are so many things about Oracle that you can't learn on your own anyway. So you would need an instructor to point out a few things to you. But NIIt training or not. There is no substitute to learning on your own.Oracle software can easily be downloaded from Oracle's flagship website onto your linux box/windows box and then with the right materials you can hit the ground running. Computerwarehouse group training with expertedge is also good i think. Goodluck brother. |
@kvolander There are so many Nigerians who come to UK in there droves, gaining admissions into universities to study IT/computing related programmes. Most of them after paying enormous fees for their studies still do not get IT jobs after school'. Sometimes I just wish i could get into the heads of my fellow country men studying in UK and give them some tips for IT jobs in UK. I don't really know how it works in Nigeria. But i think one thing is sure,no IT driven business in Nigeria will employ a novice to handle a sensitive technical position in the business even with your connections, unless you want to start out at a junior level. Just like somebody asked. You need to find and identify your flair and ability in IT.The iT industry is way more than you think.I will suggest you start with system admistration.Put your emphasis on self learning and training first before certifications. The problem that bedevils my beloved country is electricity. You need to buy your own computer box and set it up at home and then practise, practise, practise, practise, practise and practise. But i wonder how you can do that without constant supply of electric power.I suggest you go for MCSE training and later certifications if you are a windows person. I don't know much about linux training in Nigeria. But there is a certification for that(RHCA,RHCE).IT job is a pressure cooker job.So you need to be a very fast learner and intuitive. It depends on your flair like i said and again the IT market in Nigeria.Maybe the IT guys in Nigeria can tell you what the trend is like in Nigeria so you can know the one to go for. I wish you all the best of luck dude. You can always get me on this email ad: charles.ajah@googlemail.com(because i seldom come on nairaland)if you need further clarifications from me Good luck mate. |
Hello, I think you will have to be a fast and dogged learner to start up with Java and get a job with it in 2 years time considering the pressure you are putting yourself in. I am an IT professional living in UK and i can confidently tell you to forget about Java dear. Dont't even try Oracle(am an Oracle DBA).The easiest thing for you will be simple systems administration/IT support. You will have to start learning from there and climb up gradually. I know the advertisements that go on nigeria for Oracle/Java training from companies like NIIT etc ,just to take your money. infact,at this point, you should have known the basics/fundamentals of systems administartion/IT support if you want to get a job soon. otherwise i wonder how you will work out. Charles |
You could try out World of War Craft It is the most popular multi-player onlime game in the world. Infact its the best. |
Obasanjo was interviewed by BBC's Steve but he got angry at allegations of corruptions against him. He thought he was at Ota, enjoy the video http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00j6bhx/HARDtalk_Olusegun_Obasanjo_Former_President_of_Nigeria/?src=a_syn31 |
@Fhemmmy it is a different thing to be voted for and another thing to win.Nigerian politics is too dirty for a woman to handle. She will gossip away classified information to her fellow mates. |
It will be very difficult in a place like Nigeria.I don't really see Liberia as true blooded African nation coz a good number of them were repatriated from America,so they wouldn't have the mindset of most Africans. That explains the reason why a woman is their president. @Poster:you got it all wrong,Nigeria needs a LEADER and not a RULER. Traditionally in Africa women do not lead nor rule. That's the bitter truth but you have to accept it. I can't imagine 100 million Nigerians voting a woman into power.Think about the North were women are more or less like slaves. You think the North would let a woman lead this country? It is utterly impossible here. |
are you talking of CYGWIN? IT IS NOT ENTIRELY VIRTUALISATION.YOU CAN USE IT TO ISSUE LINUX COMMANDS ON YOUR WINDOWS SYSTEM.YOU CAN EVEN HAVE THE CROND UTILITY RUNNING AS A SERVICE. THANK YOU. |
Larryoncol How can you say that two databases cannot be running on the sasme machine. It is not true. Multiple databases can be running on the same machine. Charles |
why do people compain about how bad ones written english is ? Nigerians can be foolishly arrogant on how well they can speak or write another man's language without even knowing how to write the simplest words in their mother tongue. The essence of a language is for communincation. If you understood what the thread starter wrote just react to it and stop trading insults on the person.Informal languages, bad spelling and errors are allowed here, this is not a place for official write-up. So please leave your excellent mastery of English at your house before you come here guys. |
does he know that you have a vibrator? |
