Politics / FG Partners China For New Steel Plant - The Nation Newspaper by Chukwudi87(m): 6:46pm On Jan 04
The partnership hopes to also commence the building of military hardware in the Ajaokuta Steel Plant.

The Head Press and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Steel Development, Salamatu Jibaniya made this known in a statement.

She said this formed the crux of the visit by a delegation of the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Steel Development, Mary Ogbe in their tour of Luan Steel Holding Group in Hefei and Guangzhou Regions of China.

Jibaniya said Prince Audu stated that the trip to China is one of the steps being taken to realise the goals of reviving the Steel Industry in Nigeria in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

She said, according to Prince Audu, work has commenced to create an operational Steel Industry that would attract billions of dollars of foreign direct investments into the country, open up the nation’s economy, and create hundreds of thousands of job opportunities, which form the core of the renewed hope agenda.

He further noted that building Military hardware in the Ajaokuta Steel Plant is also timely, considering that Nigeria is faced with security challenges. Adding that this would help in the fight against insecurity and terrorism.
She added: “We had very meaningful discussions with the Chairman of Luan Steel Holding Group, Mr Wang Jianbing, the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr Xiao Weizhan, and other senior Executives of the Luan Steel Holding Group.

“Like several other international and local investors, Luan Steel Holding Group has indicated interest in setting up a new Steel Plant in Nigeria, as well as handling a component of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant for building military hardware in Nigeria.

“The Minister of Defence and I led this delegation, which includes the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Steel Development, Dr Mary Ogbe, Sole Administrator/Managing Director of Ajaokuta Steel Company, Mr Sumaila Abdul-Akaba, to enable us to have a first-hand look at the Luan steel plants before arriving at a decision.

“With all the commitments on the ground, we are optimistic that before the end of President Tinubu’s administration, we will commence commercial Steel Production in some of the government-owned entities in Nigeria.”

Politics / Umahi: Tinubu Has Approved Over 260 Emergency Road Repairs by Chukwudi87(m): 6:48am On Oct 13, 2023
Works Minister David Umahi announced this while addressing reporters after a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa yesterday in Abuja.

The minister, who said the emergency repairs would gulp about N217 billion, added that the President had approved more road interventions, including project upgrades.

He said President Tinubu had also approved the resurfacing of the Third Mainland Bridge, construction of Lekki Deep Seaport road, both in Lagos; re-construction of two collapsed bridges in Enugu, and reconstruction of two locations on the Onitsha-Owerri road.
Other roads approved for construction include the upgrading of the ongoing Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road, and the dualisation of Lafia by-pass.

“I’ve always commended Mr. President for his deep interest in reinstating most of our roads in the country. Everyday, we get a lot of concerns from the public on the very deplorable situations of our roads. But there is no paper I brought in respect of this that Mr. President has not approved.

“Just yesterday, he approved over 260 road interventions across the 36 states and the FCT. You will recall that, last week, he approved a lot of emergency roads and bridge repairs. We have three bridges that collapsed on the Southwest roads that he approved for reconstruction immediately. We have the Shendam- Lafia that collapsed; we also have the approval for its repairs.

“We have about 17 points along the East-West Road that have been destroyed by flood. Mr. President has approved and released money for the immediate repairs. Of course, the Third Mainland Bridge’s resurfacing and repairs of some noticeable deflections, which have to be done under the deck on top of the water with equipment, he has also approved that.

Two bridges that collapsed in Enugu approved by Mr. President. The two locations on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Mr. President approved its reconstruction. for Lokoja-Abuja Road, Mr. President approved the reconstruction.

“I can name them, apart from the 260 emergency repairs all over the country that are worth about N217 billion. So, I’m quite glad.

“This afternoon again, Mr. President approved upgrading of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road. Of course, it’s ongoing. But it’s a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Chinese and we’re paying 15 per cent.

“Also, the construction of the Lafia bypass dualisation from Makurdi through Oturkpo, through Oboloafor, down to Ninth Mile. It’s a major one, but Mr. President has approved it. This is also being financed by the China EXIMBank; the Lafia-Keffi Road is also financed by Chinese EXIMBank.

“Then the Seventh AXA Road, Lekki Deep Seaport (access) in Lagos; you know the Lagos State government is building the deep seaport, meaning that all the cargoes that cannot berth at the existing ports in Lagos can now come to that location. That’s where the Dangote Refinery is located.”

Politics / Seyi Tinubu Sends N15m To Mohbad's Son, Liam by Chukwudi87(m): 11:46am On Sep 21, 2023
Seyi Tinubu, son of President, Bola Tinubu, has transferred N15m to Liam, son of late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as MohBad, who passed on Tuesday, September 12.

Although the transaction receipt date shows September 20 with no narration as to what the money is for, it was announced by the Special Assistant to Tinubu on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, on Thursday, September 21.

Sharing the reciept, Olusegun said: "The figurative apple that did not fall far from the tree #RIPIMOLE. Thank you ST❤❤🙏🏿"

Netizens have since reacted to the new information with some worrying that the funds not be mismanaged.

Omotayo of Lagos wrote: "Seyi Tinubu sent the sum of 15 million naira into Mohbad son's account this morning, one thing is certain, that boy is definetely going to have a better life while growing up, i just hope and pray that those who are in charge of the account don't mismanage all the funds.

Popular crossdresser, Bobrisky also wrote: "First Son of Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu gifts Mohbad’s son, Liam, 15m Naira. God bless him 👏🏾"

"I supported PBAT, and I am still a huge supporter of his him. But please, I think the first son must understand his position, and keep a few of his dealings off the press. It will do his father's position some good," Emeka wrote

Speaking about his fears, Classik wrote: "The biggest fear am having I hope the families will take care of his son with all this money🙏"

"What is his net worth that he is donating such amount of money?" Otuekong Akwa Ibom asks.

Travel / Canada PM Justin Trudeau Stuck In India After Plane Breaks Down by Chukwudi87(m): 9:04am On Sep 12, 2023
Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and his entire delegation have been forced to extend their stay in New Delhi for the G20 summit by an extra day after his aircraft broke down, Canadian officials confirmed.

Trudeau arrived in India for the meeting of the leaders of 20 leading economies on Friday.

He was due to return home on Sunday after laying a wreath at a memorial to Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, but a mechanical fault kept him in India overnight.
The Canadian High Commission in New Delhi referred AFP to a statement from Trudeau’s office saying that the Canadian air force, which operates the plane, had informed the delegation it “was experiencing technical difficulties”.

“These issues are not fixable overnight, our delegation will be staying in India until alternative arrangements are made,” it added.

Canada’s CTV identified the plane as an Airbus, saying it was not clear when it would be able to return, adding it “isn’t the first time” it had had problems.

Trudeau’s presence at the G20 summit was lower-key than some of his G7 counterparts, and came against a backdrop of tensions between his government and host India over Ottawa’s handling of rightwing Sikh separatists.

New Delhi accuses Ottawa of turning a blind eye to the activities of radical Sikh nationalists who seek a separate Sikh homeland in northern India.

Trudeau is not the only world figure to have been a victim of problems with an aircraft issues in recent months. In August, Germany’s foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, was forced to abandon a trip to Oceania after a problem with her government plane twice forced it to return to Abu Dhabi.

In June, the New Zealand defence force plane ferrying the country’s prime minister, Chris Hipkins, to China was judged so unreliable that a backup plane flew in reserve. Former prime ministers Dame Jacinda Ardern and Sir John Key have previously become stuck during trips around the world after RNZAF Boeing 757s and Hercules aircraft broke down.

Politics / US Chamber Of Commerce Invites Tinubu To Ring NASDAQ Closing Bell Sept 20 by Chukwudi87(m): 12:54pm On Sep 11, 2023
The United States Chamber of Commerce has invited President Bola Tinubu to ring the closing bell of the NASDAQ on Wednesday, September 20.

NASDAQ is an acronym for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations.

It is a stock exchange market based in New York, US.

NASDAQ is the most active stock trading venue in the US by volume, and is ranked second behind the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on market capitalisation.

The ringing of the closing bell signifies the end of a trading session on a particular day.

In a statement on Monday, the US Chamber of Commerce said the bell ringing ceremony with Tinubu will take place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The organisation said the ceremony “symbolises the significance of the economic ties between the United States and Nigeria”.

The ceremony will take place at NASDAQ headquarters, New York.

“We hope this celebration and the discussion as part of the U.S.-Nigeria Executive Business Dialogue serve to further strengthen economic ties and enhance collaboration between the U.S. and Nigerian business communities,” the statement reads.

The US Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business organisation representing companies of all sizes across every sector of the economy.

Members range from small businesses and local chambers of commerce to leading industry associations and large corporations.

First of all, before you say the president is not your president, look at the 2nd page of your passport. The page directly opposite your data page. You will learn a thing or two.

The beauty of activism is that you don’t have to be intelligent. You only need to know to make noise or create drama around yourself. The bar of entry is so low anyone can get in. It’s why I like it though. Everyone can participate in noise making. To make change happen though, you’d need thinkers and those who can engage issues with a sense of understanding, tact and intelligence.
