A young boy from Mubende Uganda has invented something worth talking about. The young boy carved out a land-rover and a laptop from wood. This got lots of his community people amused at his highly creative stance. Not long ago, two Nigerian teenagers, a 13-year-old Osine and 15-year-old Anesi Ikhianosime built a web browser named Crocodile Browser Lite. Earlier this year, we reported about Adebambo Oyekan Oyelaja, a Nigerian-born software developer, who founded a social network that allows users to share prayer points, testimonies and religious activities with friends and people from around the world. OFFICIALS of United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and other stakeholders in the protection of the rights of the child were shocked, yesterday, to hear of the case of a 40-year-old man that raped a four-year-old girl to death in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The revelation was made by the State Coordinator of Child Protection Network, CPN, Mrs. Mariam Kombo-Ezeh. She also revealed two other cases of child abuse, which occurred in the state, including the death of a seven-year-old girl of complications from HIV/AIDS after being raped and infected by a man, and another 13-year-old girl gang-raped in Yenagoa, the state capital. Speaking on Advocacy Engagement with Policy Makers on Domestication of Child Right Act in Bayelsa, Mrs. Kombo-Eze said cases of child abuse and inhuman treatments were on the rise in the state. She said: “It is pathetic and the cases are on the high side. There is the need for speedy passage of the bill on Child Rights into Law.” In her speech at the stakeholders meeting organized by the state government in collaboration with CPN, with the support of UNICEF, Enugu Field Office, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ms. Nengi Rufus-Spiff, said the present administration was shocked by the revelations and would never support child abuse under any guise. According to her, children in Bayelsa State will be properly protected under the proposed Bill, adding “the parents too should rise to the realities of training the boy-child to respect the girl-child. It is a thing of regret to know that the rate of such abuses is high.” In her message at the event, Chief Field Officer of UNICEF, Enugu office, Mr. Nwanaka Chude Onwurah, commended the state government on the existing policies on the protection and welfare of Bayelsa children. Onwurah, who was represented by Charles Nzuki, expressed optimism that the Child Right Bill would soon be passed into law in Bayelsa. http://www.chuzzyblog.com/2015/09/4-year-old-girl-raped-to-death-by-40.html

Top Nigerian Blogger Linda Ikeji, has shown that her passion goes beyond writing and blogging. She has shown she can actually be passionate about changing people's life and giving them an empowerment to be self made. The Major aim of her project "I'd Rather be SelfMade" is to empower ladies in Nigeria to get started their own business and become their own boss! She wrote on her blog and i quote; "I am so excited and I can't wait to help more young ladies start their own businesses. So earlier this year, I announced that I was going to set aside a N10million grant to help young ladies with dreams, ambition and great business ideas to start their own small scale businesses. (Read here). And finally, I've done it. I've spent over N5million on 15 girls...and I have another N5million to give away before the end of the year. You have a great business idea and need start up capital? I'm here to help! .:-) So here's how it happened. I met with over 800 ladies in January this year, I got a panel to look at their proposals, we asked about 50 of them to present their ideas to us and then we shortlisted to 15 girls who are the first beneficiaries of the 'Linda Ikeji I'd Rather Be Selfmade' project. Above are 11 out of the 15 beneficiaries. Four girls who live outside Lagos (Jos, Umuahia, Ibadan and Warri) couldn't make it to our meeting this past Sunday August 23rd. See some photos and more below" Read More http://www.chuzzyblog.com/2015/08/photos-linda-ikeji-spends-over.html

Over the weekend, a video emerged on YouTube on Sunday evening, which shows a man sleeping in his bed unaware of what was about to befall him. When a woman approaches him and puts some flammable liquid on his underwear. She then takes a flame to the area, which set his pants ablaze. The sleeping man then springs to life, shocked and alarmed at the rude awakening before the video cuts off. Some YouTube users think the girl did a good job, while some others think the girl would land in jail and few think the video is fake. The promo kicked off as quietly as possible, without the usual buzz that preludes such epochal trade promotions. People, who bought their Lumia smart phones on konga.com, did not know that they are entering into a venture that could give them a lifetime experience, an all-expense-paid trip to London. They were asked to simply "Share a story describing how they intend to achieve more with their new Lumia device". In the first week of the promo, which had seven entrants, Kingsley Obodo emerged as the 1st of 5 winners in the Konga-Microsoft Lumia Competition spread which will run till the end of August 2015. Obodo, a 200L, Public Administration student of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu shared a story of how his Lumia phone will aid the achievement of his everyday goals, a story that was adjudged the most innovative and fascinating of the entries, showing the innovative essence of the Microsoft Lumia smart phones. “With my Lumia phone, the world is at my fingertips, as I can browse news all over the world without worrying about the battery life. Life needs to be captured everyday with the lens, no need of carrying bulky cameras because my Microsoft Lumia is just the perfect tool for me to expand my hobby that is photography. Microsoft Lumia offers me so much more that no other device can and that is why I ordered for two (mine and for my wife),” Obodo wrote. Olatomiwa Akande, Head PR & Brand Management for Konga, speaking at the ticket presentation on August 12, 2015 informed that the Konga-Microsoft partnership is set to reward customers who purchase the Microsoft Lumia smart phones from the konga.com over the five weeks of the promo.“The competition, which started on June 26, 2015, will be rewarding five other customers - based on the boldness, innovativeness and fascinating nature of the buyers’ stories of how they intend to improve their lifestyle with the Microsoft Lumia smart phones - with all-expense paid trips to London,” she said. Also commenting during the presentation, Yemi Orimolade, Communications Lead for Microsoft Nigeria said we are excited to be partnering with Konga to reward those who purchase Lumia smart phones from the e-commerce platform. “This partnership with our friends at Konga is our little way of re-enforcing our mission to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more, ensuring our proud winners get the opportunity to achieve more during the course of their visit to what is an amazing city.” “This promo is meant to encourage smart phone and gadget lovers, who purchase their Lumia range of phones on the Konga.com to explore the capabilities of the Lumia range of phones. We hope the winners will make good of this opportunity and be inspired to explore the capabilities of the Lumia phones during their visit to the city of London.” Obodo, whose major interest in the transaction was to own a Lumia smartphone, was full of excitement over the prize. “I feel excited and happy. I wasn’t even thinking of being the winner. I decided to participate and I was selected. Shopping on Konga was awesome and the delivery was very fast. The Lumia phone is everything I could ask for, the phone is wonderful,” Obodo said. So here’s a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to London. All you need to do is buy the Lumia 540 Dual SIM or the Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM or any Lumia smart phone from Konga.com and describe how you intend to achieve more with your new Lumia device. Yvonne Adkins, 32, left her sickly 3-month-old baby, Chantelle lying in a baby rocker and went to indulge in a nine-hour sex romp with a man she met at a bus stop. She awoke the next morning to find her baby dead in her rocker with no blanket or bed clothes. Adkins who pleaded guilty to child cruelty was given 18 months in prison, suspended for two years. Judge David Fletcher who presided over the case said; "Your desire to engage in some sexual activity with someone you hardly knew resulted in you leaving your child downstairs when you knew it was not appropriate to do that. You made a catastrophic decision that you will have to live with for the rest of your life." INTROVERT:Well.... i am not a student of uniport. i graduated from Michael Okpara Uni.. From experience i speak, in my 4th year in school, i was the Hostel Governor of my Hostel block. The rugged and ugly looking shape of things in the hostel was something i complained about for a whole session and nothing was done. I went extra miles and at some point it seemed like i was about to have issues with some of the portals... I had to back out at some point. Nairaland is a forum where most organised bodies have reps who come to see information relating to them. Sometimes, sensitive things like this needs to be brought here... This news has been making the rounds in both the conventional and internet media that President Muhammadu Buhari is to assume the position of Minister of Petroleum when he appoints ministers next month Ordinarily, this should be a welcome development for several reasons. Number one is that the president’s reputation as “Mr Clean” remains intact, even among his political adversaries. Number two is that the fight against corruption, especially in the cash-cow oil sector, has been a major concern of Nigerians which Buhari promised to address during his campaigns. Number three and most importantly, is that President Buhari is a veteran in the management of the sector. He spearheaded the establishment of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) when he was oil minister in the late 1970’s. He has the cognate experience to do a thorough job and creating the right template before ceding the position to a cabinet minister. However, we are concerned about issues of transparency and accountability if the president chooses to take up the post in addition to his onerous and overloaded duties as the nation’s Chief Executive and Security Officer. The nation is still at sea over the way in which former President Olusegun Obasanjo handled the same job for six years from 1999 when he assumed power. A number of turnaround maintenance projects were undertaken and billions of naira sunk and yet the refineries remained comatose until after Buhari took over, and they started bouncing back, as if by magic. We do not want a repeat of the nation being put in the dark about proceedings in the industry. One big disadvantage of having the president of the country as Minister of Petroleum Resources is that it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for him to be summoned by the National Assembly to be grilled over any misgivings that might arise, and to supply information that will help to set the minds of Nigerians at rest when the “clean-up” of the industry begins. The story will be different if a minister is on the job. We suggest that the president appoints a person of proven competence and integrity to carry out his mandate in the industry and be available and accountable to Nigerians through the federal legislature, the media and civil society. Once bitten, they say, twice shy. A minister should be put on the job for greater transparency, accessibility and accountability. http://www.chuzzyblog.com/2015/08/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-buhari.html |
