PoliticsLike Buhari, Like Akufo Addo. Ghana's New President In Plagiarism Mess by Cire80(op): 9:54am On Jan 08, 2017
It appears portions of H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo's inaugural speech at the Independence Square on January 7, 2017, was lifted from inaugural speeches delivered by former US presidents, George Bush and Bill Clinton.

President Akufo-Addo while addressing the gathering urged citizens to be active partakers in the running of the country.

"I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building your communities and our nation. Let us work until the work is done," he said.

However, checks reveal that the above words were contained in George Bush's 2001 inaugural speech.

Another portion where Nana Addo urged the citizenry to believe in their strength in tackling challenges seems to have been lifted from Bill Clinton's 1993 inaugural speech. Per checks, the only difference in the statement was the replacement of 'Americans' with 'Ghanaians'.

"Though our challenges are fearsome, so are our strengths. Ghanaians have ever been a restless, questing, hopeful people..."

The development has been greeted with mixed reactions from the public.

We're not talking about marginalization. Almost all parts of Edo States cry of marginalization. In Delta, Isoko cry of marginalization from both States and FG, even the almighty Urhobo are crying of how the FG is using Anioma to marginalize them which is true because if you check the federal appointments slot for Delta, Anioma always has the highest percentage and always occupy the most significant posts.

We're talking about language and not even culture as Ika practice Edo culture from time immemorial.

There is a reason I'm not taking you serious. Seems you're not familiar with Ika area of Delta and Edo States. Igbanke people are not the only Ika speakers in Edo State there are many others. And these people are originally Bini speaking or bilingual but some of these places are losing their Bini language instead of the other way round like you made it seem. Even the Bini in Ika areas of Delta State are getting Igbonized day by day.

NB:I'm not claiming any of these communities as Ika. My point is that some places in Edo speak and understand Ika some speak Ika and Bini either more of Bini or more of Ika while some only understand little Ika. I've been with people from this area.

Who's this one? Do you know the distance between Abudu and Ogan, Owa, Iru and other Ika speaking parts of Edo? In my first comment, I made it clear that some of these communities are bilingual and some speak Ika as a second language. I've been to many of these Ika speaking communities in Edo. I've never been to Abudu but I have friends from there that speak Ika and they said they speak Ika in their place.

And what do you know about Ogbaru? You think it is only in Anioma that you have communities with some Bini or Igala elements? Go to the southeast, especially Anambra and Enugu and ask them about their history, and you'll be surprised how many communities have Igala roots.

Ossomala and Oko are brothers, with Oko being the elder brother. Ask any Oko man about what i have just written. Oko and Ossomala share much more kinship than Oko and Agbor will ever share. Anioma oneness is recent and artificial.
your comments make me laugh. All your explanations doesn't indicate any form of kinship. If you are not an Anioma, don't come here and start telling us about Anioma oneness which you would never understand except you feel it. I'm from Anioma and I know my people well, especially those of still in Delta and Edo. See...of all the LGs in Edo state orhiomwon is the one am most interested in bkos of two reasons
1]it surrounds the ika part of delta on almost three sides..only the Eastern border of Ali Ika is with the Enu Ani
2]almost 80% of ika communities outside delta are located in orhiomwon. Igbo-akri(igbanke) that is struggling to have its own LG is located here.

Since you claim that communities there even up to Abudu speak ika, why are they then marginalizing the ika still found in Edo state??
Why are the Bini trying to erase the language and culture of the ika still in Edo and replace them with Bini ones?
you're obviously from one of those Eastern States. I don't involve in Edo politics but what do you mean Bini is trying to erase their language and culture? These communities were originally more Edoid than they are now, including Igbanke.

And please there's nothing like Igbo Akiri. It's Igbanke and it was derived from the two biggest igbanke villages of Igbontor and Ake. Please even if you're desperate to claim them, respect their names. Igbo Akiri sounds offensive.

He's correct on that premise...we're all called ika Igbos before and during the war. After the war,the name gradually came to be used on the clans inhabiting the Western parts of Anioma. Here's a 1931 map of the tribes in Igboland backing that up....thats why we laugh to scorn those of them who woke up after the war to claim they're now Bini undecided
there's nothing like Ika Igbo. That was added by desperate Igbos. If Ika obviously was Igbo, why did they have to indicate it there when it was never part of our name?

Ika has never been under the Igbo even from the colonial era. If I'm talking about history I don't like to involve anything European reports because it's always full of errors of completely changing people's name, village names and words. You read some of these their book and have to be the one guessing what they're talking about.

@cheruv, you might know the answer to this question that that Ika guy refused to answer.
there is no direct answer to your question but I've answered your question indirectly. That issue arose probably because he's including the parts of Anioma that has been cut off from Anioma for a very long time. These communities will understand Enuani more easily because it's the most Igboid of the dialects and they've not been in contact with Ika speakers but they've been in contact with Igbo people in the East . If you're talking about the three major groups in Anioma, this issue will never arise because there's no standardized form of Communication e or lingua franca in Anioma. Each group stick to their tongue

And Ika being the generic name for Anioma doesn't necessarily mean Ika was the dominant language but there are many Ika words in all the Anioma languages. It's this shared words that aids easier intelligibility even though our intonation is completely different. Ika is leaned more towards Bini while Ukwani is lean more towards Urhobo and Enuani is mixture of Ika and Igbo with more Igboid intonation among the groups.
CultureRe: 23 Year Old : Obi Nduka Ezeagwuna II Crowned 20th Obi Of Issele-uku - Pictures by Cire80: 12:12am On Jan 08, 2017
The Anioma groups outside of Delta have been cut off from Anioma for decades or even centuries and they shouldn't be a yardstick in measuring anything. It's just like talking about Yoruba dialects and you start including Itsekiri and Olukumi, that would only cause more confusion.

You've changed your tune... I thought you said that the whole of Anioma used to be called 'Ika'? huh How is it that such a dominant group such as the Ika who were so dominant that the whole region was named after got overtaken by another group so quickly?

What are you talking about? There's no context needed here; the Enuani dialect is the most dominant in the region and is "comprehensible to all". We're talking about language here so obviously it's saying that it's the dominant language of the region. As for your point about having extensive knowledge about the topic... well, what can I say? I don't pretend to have extensive knowledge on the subject but going from your posts, neither do you undecided.
There's no Anioma language that's not comprehensible to all Anioma. The confusion will come in when you include those Aniomas outside of Delta State. Maybe. But I'm limiting my scope to the Aniomas in Delta State which I'm 100% familiar with.

Ika was the general name for Anioma even from the colonial era.

Then why is their dialect the most dominant in the region? huh
There's nothing like dominant Anioma dialect. All Anioma dialects are regarded equal in Aniomaland. No Anioma dialect is inferior to other. If two Anioma indigenes want to communicate, each use his language. Even when we as Ika people go to Enuani and Ukwani area for marriage or burial, we speak Ika and they understand us well. We don't even try to speak their tongue because we're in their land.

I read online that there are quite a few dialects spoken in Anioma, both Igbo and non-Igbo, but the Enuani one is the dominant dialect and is somewhat understood by all due to their influence on the people there. Do you know if this is true or not?
All Anioma dialects are understood by Anioma. It's funny you're asking someone who doesn't know shit about Anioma to explain this to you. Igbanke is not the only Ika speaking community in Edo. There are lots of Anioma communities in Edo but some of them are bilingual. From Ekpon to Ughomose, Igbogiri, Abudu, Owa RI Uzor, ogan, Iru speak Ika language. Even farther Down deep inside Edo, Ika is spoken as a second language. If you include Ika speakers in Edo State, Enuani speakers are not more than us.

I do not believe you know what you are talking about. Anioma 'oneness' is artificial and very recent. The kinship between communities in Enuani (especially the Oshimili part of Enuani) and Ogbaru is much more organic and dates back to antiquity.

If you think an Oko man from Oshimili-Enuani will feel more at home with an Agbor man than with an Ossomala man from Ogbaru, then you do not know Oko and you do not know Ossomala.
The oneness is recent? Lol. No need responding to this. What do you know about Oko? Oko that I know are greatly Igala. Even more Igala than Asaba.

Those people are not Enu-ani but they're Anioma in diaspora. There's no way an Asaba man will feel more at home with Ogbaru man than an Ika man. Not possible at all. Except maybe someone that grew up outside Anioma and is completely out of touch with his people

Lmao. If this is the case then I wonder what will happen to the Bini people as a result of their actions during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade cheesy. A Bini poster on this thread even praised his people for selling people from other ethnic stocks but not their own. What a shame... undecided

Compared to the other 2 major tribes in Nigeria, I would say that the Igbos have been the least violent to their surrounding neighbouring minority tribes. Look at the Oyo Empire expansion and how the Christian and Animist minority groups have been treated in the North. Btw, 'Anioma' is not in itself a minority group, I'm tired of people acting like everyone in Anioma is the same. I have more of a connection to an Enuani person in Delta state than an Ika person does and I belong to a majority ethnic group.
you're wrong. If you're from Ogbaru, you might feel more connected to Enu-ani than you feel connected to Ika but please don't don't try to compare the connection you feel with Enu-ani to Ika Enuani connection they're not even close at all. If you're not in Anioma, you will never understand us

I agree with you ultimately.
The Benins shot themselves in the foot.

Initially they wanted to have the midwest to themselves and rule over it as supremes, and having some sort of pseudo empire, where Benin city would be Alpha, thinking that we were still in the age of empires.
By the time everyone is done. Benin might end up being just Oredo, Egor and Ikpoba Okha.
And god help them by then.
Anioma people were not marginalized in Midwest. I know many people from my area that were ministers and also held many good positions in both Midwest and Bendel. Even the Edo States government house is still named after an Anioma man from Asaba.

lol. Or have the Benin's been lying about the might of their empire and the origin of those towns?
lol.... As a Yoruba man my being is going with the first, that these towns were Originally Benin. But thinking more deeply I am inclined to go with the second. These towns were never fully Benin but nixed Benin and Igbo, with igbo being the majority constituent.
These towns were never fully Bini of course but Igbo is never the majority constituents. Anioma for example is mixed with many different people but Igbos are on a mission to wipe out any trace of Bini in Anioma land. They plan to achieve this through propaganda and fabrications and if you put their population into consideration, you will understand how simple this is for them to achieve.

Moreover I've a very bold plan that I want to set in motion by 2020. This plan would see the complete Igbonization of Idu by 2100. Moreover the Igbo I'd use isn't that spoken by the Ika but the one spoken by the Isiama people. Just like the khitan, Bini people would only exist in folklore grin
This has been the mission of the Igbos and they're already succeeding in Anioma and other minority groups around them. You people use your population to achieve this evil. Sometimes I wonder if what is happening to the Igbos is as a result of how they treat the minority groups around them. This may be karma catching up with you people.
