President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed that he would not disappoint Nigerians in the task of rendering quality services, if re-elected. Jonathan made the promise on Thursday at the Aso Rock Villa when he had an interactive with members of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Alumini Association, of which he is a member. “ I promise you that the day I leave office, you will be proud alumni of the UNIPORT. I will not disappoint you. I will not disappoint Nigerians,” he said. He said that some people do claim that his administration has not achieved anything but he took all the criticisms in good fate, knowing that some others also appreciate all he has achieved so far. He said his administration had intervened in many critical areas, such as railways and road infrastructure, reviving more than 80 per cent of the existing narrow gauge and even doing more. According to Jonathan, his administration inherited a total of 5,000 kms of motorable roads which his government has now increased to 20,000 kms out of the existing 35,000 kms. On the nation’s health sector, he said if there was no new outbreak of polio by June 2015, WHO would certify Nigeria as polio free. Jonathan also said access to quality education had been improved through the establishment of 12 new universities and also ensuring manpower development. He noted that the the raising of the pump price of fuel, which some Nigerians protested against had yielded good dividends as the proceeds were invested in reviving ailing infrastructure. Jonathan said his administration had also recorded success in job creation as through the `Youwin’ programme alone, more than 3,000 graduates had become employers of labour in the manufacturing and services sectors with some of them already exporting their products. He also expressed optimism that in the next 10 years, Nigerians would marvel at the input of the `Youwin’ beneficiaries to the growth of the economy, adding that Nigerians were equally reaping benefits from the power sector reforms. Jonathan further assured his guests that the recommendations of the National Conference would be implemented, to improve the polity. Assessing his five year reign as president, Jonathan said that Nigeria had moved “several levels higher.” “ We have done quite a number of things but people will still say that this government has done nothing,” he said. http://www.today.ng/news/re-elect-me-for-a-second-term-i-promise-not-to-disappoint-you-jonathan-pleads-with-nigerians/

Politics › Re: Gej Campaigned With PIB In 2011, Today He Is Campaigning On The Confab Report by Clerverly: 7:23pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
barcanista: When someone goes out of logical argument they resort to name-calling. Well I will pretend I didn't see it!
The NASS sent delegates for the Confab, they were not there for a tea party. The President only need their endorsement or resolution. It is not a regular bill that will require formal readings upon readings(except they have any plans to modify it). But again your insults makes you appear like a deranged fellow which I hope you are not.
Thanks for the time There is no short cut in passage of bills (be it executive, legislative or private member bill) in the National Assembly except you are talking about motions! It must pass through the stages and accented to or vetoed!! So learn and stop running round faulty lines! Good night! |
Politics › Re: Gej Campaigned With PIB In 2011, Today He Is Campaigning On The Confab Report by Clerverly: 7:08pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
barcanista: Obiagelli has no point. The role of the President is to sign bills into law. He doesn't participate in bills reading neither does he have powers to vote for or against a bill. The PIB is an executive bill, tell your people to pass it and see whether or not Mr President will sign it like he did FOI.
[s]As for the Confab, the NASS won't go through their loooong process, because there will be no need for that since everyone was involved. The President only need to get their formal endorsement and implement it...
Or there be a referandum... He can exploit any option![/s] Have you seen, you are not as intelligent as people thought. Since you shifted to the. other side of divides, your intellectual emptiness and hollowness is now very obvious!! So because everybody was involved, it won't to go the NASS for debate? Even your jonathan has said in numerous occasions, he would send the report to the National Assembly for debate and passage, but here you just want to hang on to a faulty position. Please dust up the constitution and re-read without TAN eyeglasses! |

Politics › Re: Gej Campaigned With PIB In 2011, Today He Is Campaigning On The Confab Report by Clerverly: 6:55pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
barcanista: When GMB said he will implement true federalism, do yu think he will do that via executive order? Sometimes I wonder you people basis of criticism That is different between the two leaders(GMB and GEJ)! Just like Obama who always displays political sagacity and sincerity in getting some of his policies scale through the congress while jonathan always depend on bribe and coercion which has seen him collide with the NASS on many fronts! Moral Lesson: so it is with PIB, so it will be with the Confab report! |
Politics › Re: Gej Campaigned With PIB In 2011, Today He Is Campaigning On The Confab Report by Clerverly: 6:49pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
barcanista: So why are you trying to blame the President for the failure of NASS with respect to PIB? Is he a legislator? You can only blame him when he refused to sign it into law.
As for the Confab Report, that isn't a problem because NASS was part of the Confab. A formal passage of it by the NASS or a Referrendum by the people of Nigeria is enough to get the Report implemented. This is no rocket science Stop twisting words here! There is no two ways of getting the Confab report working without the NASS! If he cannot get it right with PIB, he can NEVER get it right with the Confab also. So what Obiagelli is saying in essence is, for jonathan to stop fooling people with promises he knows deep inside, he has no will or power to fulfill!!! |
Politics › Re: Gej Campaigned With PIB In 2011, Today He Is Campaigning On The Confab Report by Clerverly: 6:32pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
barcanista: [s]The PIB issue is a matter of the National Assembly. Some Northern legislators are vehemently opposed to some provisions of PIB and that is the basis for the stalmate. Though I believe that the President could do a little more in influencing his party men, it again bothers on the NASS members to pass the Bill and send it to GEJ for ascent. The President has said he will sign the PIB when it gets to his table, so far it hasn't got to his table.
As for the Confab report, I believe he will implement it when he get re-elected.
Recall that He said in 2011 that he will sign the FOI when it gets to his table, it got to his table and he signed it within 24hrs. The same FOI that Governors Fashola, Ajimobi, Amaechi etc are fighting tooth and nail to subdue.[/s] Stale lines! How does he plan to get National Confab report implemented without recourse to the same NASS, he blames for his inability to get the PIB working? |
