PoliticsObasanjo Condemnes Buhari's Refusal To Sign Africa Free Trade Agreement by Cletus77(op): 10:12am On Mar 23, 2018
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has described the action of African leaders absent at the signing of the African Union Continental Free Trade Area (AUCFTA), as criminal.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who cancelled his trip to Rwanda, was absent at the signing of the agreement.
Buhari giving reasons for his cancelled trip to Kigali for the signing of the AUCFTA agreement framework said enough consultation was not made before the Federal Executive Council, FEC, approved the signing of the framework agreement for establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area. http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/18/buhari-cancelled-rwandas-trip/
According to him, the agreement had the capacity to hinder local entrepreneurship and encourage the dumping of finished goods in Nigeria.
Obasanjo speaking in a video posted by NBS Rwanda at African trade agreement, criticised African presidents who refused to sign the trade agreement.
He described their reason not to assent to the trade agreement as ‘mere flimsy excuse and criminal.’
He said: “ “I’m surprised that any African leader at this point in time will be talking about either not understanding the Continental free trade area or not to support what we’re going to sign. I see that as criminal.
“The signing and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will enable a shift from dependence on assistance to increased trade.
“The establishment of the Free Trade Area will result in the establishment of a market of over one billion two hundred million people, with a combined gross product of over three trillion dollars.”
“That is where our salvation lies, trading amongst ourselves and consequently developing our economies. The agreement will inspire a change a perception of the continent by the rest of the world,” he said.
Meanwhile a committee comprising ministers of Foreign Affairs, Labour, Budget, Science and Technology and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been set up to look at the agreement and its security implications for Nigeria.

Politics2019: I Will Retire Ganduje From Politics - Kwankwaso by Cletus77(op): 12:15am On Mar 22, 2018
Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso representing Kano Central in the Senate has vowed to retire Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje from active politics come 2019 general elections.

In an audio voice message aired on a private radio station in Kano (Express FM) on Wednesday, Senator Kwankwaso declared that no amount of persuasion would make him change his mind over the stance to remove Ganduje.

He said the level of betrayal meted to him by the Governor was enough yardsticks to stage a comeback into Kano politics and unseat Ganduje from Government House.

Senator Kwankwaso also boasted of dealing and retiring, from politics, “those who have any link to the Governor from any quarters within the Country, even if that person is in Abuja” (an apparent reference to Buhari).

The fire-spitting Senator was also quoted as saying, “go and write it down, I will retire this betrayer (Ganduje) and his collaborators from active politics in a simple arithmetic of 1 + 1 which you all know the answer.”

PoliticsDapchi Girls: Nigerian Government Speaks On Paying Ransome To Release Students by Cletus77(op):
The Nigerian Government on Wednesday insisted that the federal government did not pay ransom to Boko Haram insurgents for the release of the Dapchi schoolgirls.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who spoke while addressing State House Correspondents in Abuja, however, admitted that the government negotiated with the sect.
He said, “The girls were released unconditionally, no money changed hands. They (Boko Haram insurgents) only had one condition – that they will return them to where they picked them. So, in the early hours of today, they did return the girls and most of them went to their parents homes.
“Like I said in the statement released to you early, once violence and confrontation was ruled out and negotiation started, there was a deliberate pause on the part of the military; in other words, it was agreed that there will be no force, there will be no confrontation, that was why it was possible for them to drop the girls. It was part of the agreement that when they release the girls, there will be no violence or confrontation. And don’t forget that the lives of this children are much more important to us than any cheap victory.
“As of now I can confirm that 91 girls and one boy have been released. The event is developing. Many of the girls that were released were not dropped in one place. Some were dropped on the road and they went back naturally to their parents’ houses. They are now being asked to come and be documented at a center and as at five minutes ago, I was told 91 girls and boy had been documented.”
On the boy released, Mohammed said, “I can tell you that is authentic. Whether they pick the boy or not I can’t hazard any guess but don’t forget even in a girl school, which is a boarding school there will be parents, they are teachers who can have children amongst them. But what I have been told is that 91 girls and one boy have been documented.”
