You never hear of Bill Gates slapping his employees. You never hear of billionaire Mark Cuban slapping his basketball players. You never hear of Warren Buffet slapping his shareholders. Only stupid arrogant nigerian billionaires think they are greater than thou. Imagine slapping a grown man just because you got money. They should've fined him N20billion or banned him for life.

LOL poverty mentality. So spending N5-7 million ($15,000 -20,000) on a wedding now means someone has made it in life? Funny dude. I attended my Indian's friends wedding where they spent a whooping $150,000. All hands are not equal, rather than attacking a faceless person on nairaland, you should be happy for others and pray that God blesses u.

And then live in a rented apartment or do I assume the groom has his own house? With that amount, you can build a small 2/3 bedroom bungalow in a suburban housing estate and live happily thereafter. smiley Too far? You can let if out to subsidise your rent in the city.
The wedding is just an event preceeding the marriage which is the real deal. Invest for a joyful and less stressful future together if you have that much. Avoid debt as your expenses are bound to increase after the wedding. Be wise!
Key phrase if you can afford it. Affordability doesn't mean if you have N10 million in the bank you now spend N7million on a wedding that's not affordability. Get it? Just because you have enough money to buy something that doesn't mean you can afford it. Let people spend their money how they want.
EventsRe: Wedding In Nigeria: At What Cost? by Clone2020(m): 7:24pm On Mar 22, 2016
I like how people always wanna tell you how to spend your money. This is a good advice but if you can afford a very good wedding, go for it. Left to me, an average wedding should cost btwn N5-7 million.

There is a united states law that states that anyone who invests 1 million dollar or more in the US economy automatically becomes a citizen. So I think I know why he bought it.
Yes if you invest $500,000 or more, you get a greencard. It's called EB5 visa. But that's if the house is worth that much and if he paid cash for the full amount and not mortgage.

"The woman wrote that she felt Udeh has given all black men a bad name and that she was now afraid of black men. She said she won't get into a taxi now if the driver was black." OK this is plain old foolishness cuz it could've been a white rapist.

The foolish man probably lied about his sexual orientation and lied that he was being threatened and persecuted as a gay man in Nigeria to get this asylum visa. Since homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria, these western countries would grant visas to gay men fleeing for their lives. Now they will wake up and block this immigration loophole being exploited by idiots like this guy.

I'm happy for this woman and I wish her well but I feel like these companies signing her up to advertise their products are just bandwagon fans trying to share the limelight. Instead of heaping her with so many endorsements, why don't they go on the streets and make another person's dream come true? They are just forcing the issue. I get it that they are all trying to continue this Cinderella story but this is so unrealistic and I hope she knows this fame won't last for too long.

I now sell Shea Butter and cocoa butter on Amazon. I buy them in Nigeria, package it and sell on Amazon.. I'm also in the process of supplying yams to African Markets on New York. A cheaper naira actually favors me cuz I can buy agric produce cheap and sell high. It also favors me when I change dollars to naira to take care of expenses back home, but as a true Nigerian, I would rather see our economy grow and currency streghten.

Well, back in the year 1973.....something happened. Oil prices shot up by 400%....thanks to OPEC raising the oil prices to ''deal'' with the Americans for backing Israel during the Yom Kippur War. (google for it).

As a result, a lot of oil producers had money flowing in.....dollars.

This meant that most oil producers had lots of dollars. For Nigeria....enough dollars meant a stronger Naira.

That is why by 1978....N1=$1.

(At the same time, America had a lot of economic problems,. and the dollar was not as strong as it used to be. Add the rising power of Japan...and you get the pic)

By 1982,however, the oil price per barrel dropped. This led to a drop in forex holdings for many oil producers. For many of them it was a nightmare (The Soviet Union for example went into economic crisis which was one of the reasons why it collapsed by 1992.). For Nigeria....less dollars meant economic problems. And thanks to the massive corruption of the Second Republic....we did not have the forex to buffer the naira. By 1983....Shagari was already talking about austerity. When Buhari took over on Dec 31 1983 via coup.....the situation was serious. Buhari kept the problem at bay via certain economic measures....but inflation kept rising because we did not have enough forex to import . Buhari's answer was import substitution. Then Buhari was overthrown.....IBB came in, the oil price stayed low,our debt was rising....and SAP came around.

Your dad had a good time in the early 1980's because of high oil prices. If you listened closely....he would have told you that from 1984....things got tougher.

Nigeria was to remain in the economic doldrums until oil prices rose again by 2003.....
Very well said. Your analysis paints a broader picture. Our reliance on oil has been a roller-coaster ride.
