adewumiopeyemi: On Akin Ambode: Egungun Be Careful, Na Express You Dey Go
When I read online what Governor Akin Ambode said at his World Press Conference, three things came to my mind: the passage in the Holy Scriptures where Samson was captured, his eyes plucked out and he became a sport to his captors. The second thing was Abass Obesere's song, 'Egungun be careful'. The third was that I rushed to Wikipedia to check Ambode's profile.
Up till now, I've refrained from joining the discussion on how Akin Ambode was told he won't get a second-term ticket and all the issues surrounding it. I've read so many comments but I feel most people are guided by sentiments rather than logic. I've not seen any CEO of any State humiliated in such a manner before. Different people turned him into a sport including a musician. He was stripped naked in the market place and turned into a punching bag.
The most dangerous person to fight is the person whose back is already against the wall and who believes he has nothing to lose. Beware of him. Ambode's back is against the wall. That is why his issue must be approached with caution. He has already lost everything so there is nothing more to lose. With the Press Conference, I honestly don't think he's interested in any second-term ticket again. His speech says as much. He is now like a bull in a china shop. You underrate such a man at your peril. And this is where it gets interesting. Like Samson in Judges 16: 29-30 (KJV), we read that "Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life". Ambode can play the Samson option. He won't be a beneficiary neither will anyone else within the structure. I've found out that in power games like this, the most dangerous people to spar with are your own 'sons'. They grew up with you and know you inside out. When sons decide to spar with their fathers, the fathers are toast- except God helps them. Ask David about Absalom. Ask Olusola Saraki about Bukola.
In his hand is the control lever of the biggest state in Nigeria. Here is a man who worked through the system for 27 years and rose to the zenith of his career, having worked as Council Treasurer, Auditor, Permanent Secretary and Accountant General for 6 years. Ambode is no fool. He threw chinks at the armour of respected poster boy, Babatunde Raji Fashola at the inception of his administration. He had to be restrained then and till date, BRF still carries those scars. Ambode may not have the gift of the garb but he is an extremely intelligent individual. He has worked with so many Governors including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and he became one himself.
I urge caution from every side. This situation is an ill-wind that will blow no one any good. The big masquerade has to be careful. The express way is full of danger. He can't afford to get into the ring with Ambode. Does he think Ambode would have addressed that Press Conference without due consultations? Who is playing the drums for him that is making his waterfly erupt in a dance? Think. The big masquerade may just have feet of clay. That is why he must be careful of taking a plunge in the river. And like my egbon Kehinde Ayoola J P wrote, "When a blind man threatens to stone a man with two eyes, let the two-eyed man beware. The blind man has a stone in his pocket already"!
So I'm here playing that Obesere blockbuster in my head....

Romance › Re: I Love My Boyfriend But I Am So Scared Of Lending Him 700k by cmikel: 8:50pm On Sep 23, 2018 |
Suzzyyy: Hello Nairalanders! Plz help! I hv been scared and confused abt a risk I want to tk so I decided to share for advice.
Im 29 and I hv a boyfriend who is 33. We hv been happily dating for close to 3 years now, he once helped me financially in a good way with 100k when I had problem with my little business, then he was doing pretty fine with his business, I sell plastics and hez into cloth business. But somtin happened last 2 months, he had terrible problems with his business and lost almost everything including his shop and in a bid to salvage his situation he ended up owing many pple, when all these started he didn't tell me, thou hez a kind of person that likes handling his problem alone without disturbing or telling me which I don't like bcus it somehow makes me feel less important and useful to him, I got to know when he changed, his attitude, moods and everything changed, hez always disturbed, thinking and always visiting pple, he payed less concern and attention to me, don't even call and when I call, he will be in a haste to end it, I became confused, so I had to asked what was going on, he said nothing, I got upset and insisted he must tell me, he then opened up, I felt so bad and almost cried, since then I have been trying to maintain his upkeep and sometimes give him money which hez not comfortable with.
The problem now Is that im scared, he asked for a huge amount of money from me which is 700k, he wants to start all over again in his cloth business and also clear some debt, and I can only boast of 820k home and abroad as a business woman, i just feel he saw my account balance before asking for this, Im scared to loose the money and him too. I love this guy but im so scared of doing this, he helped me when I needed money, but this sacrifice is bigger than me, he showed and detailed everything he will be doing with the money, Im just confused to gamble with my life savings, I know I might sound ungrateful what if the business or our relationship crumble? Won't I be stranded and doomed? My business is not that strong and we all know how most of sacrifices like this ended for people. Is this kind of risk worth doing for a boyfriend
Plz advice me on what to do, plz. Let him get u engaged ND married so u know u are safe and doing it for a husband Secondly invest wisely in him give him 400k and watch if the need and business grows up den u can put in the 300k to boost it up But to be safe let him have a low key trad marriage on you first. If he is genuine wt u he shldnt hesitate Money can rely cause a lot of problems btw pple unless u r ready to forfeit the sum |

bilms: Aspirant berates APC over expensive nomination form
A presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has berated the All Progressives Congress for charging N45m for his expression of interest and nomination forms in a country where an average citizen lives on less than a dollar a day.
He described as bogus the claim that a group contributed N45m to purchase the forms for President Muhammadu Buhari, contending that the money was most likely pulled out from the government coffers.
Olawepo-Hashim, who is aspiring to be President on the platform of the Alliance for New Nigeria, urged Nigerians to reject both President Buhari and all the people “regrouping to present themselves as credible alternatives to the failing APC.”
“And for those hapless members without access to government coffers, it is regrettable that they are selling their assets to raise the funds, with the mindset that such will give them licence to the public till when the time comes,” the presidential hopeful said in a statement on Monday.
He noted that the world over, the only legitimate way through which political parties raise money was a collection of dues from members.
“And it is the reason why the ANN is following this path, as a party of new ideas, and as a party that is ready to bring in a new beginning.
“In ANN, our nomination fees are modest, and the average aspirant is not likely to imagine that he has paid for a licence to dip his or her hands in the public till at the end of the day.
“The earlier we got things right as we are doing in the ANN, the better for us, our nation, and the future generation,” he said.

Politics › Re: Tinubu Instructed Us To Work For Sanwo-olu's Emergence As Governor -APC Elders by cmikel: 11:26am On Sep 12, 2018 |
nairavsdollars: The scenario that played out in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the build-up to the reelection of Babatunde Raji Fashola, former governor of Lagos, is repeating itself as the chances of his successor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who is seeking a second term is slim.
Daily Independent had last week exclusively reported that Ambode may have incurred the wrath of some elders in the party who felt shortchanged by his administration.
Sources even alleged that the demand by Bola Tinubu, National Leader of APC, during the last stakeholders’ meeting of the party on August 14 that the Lagos State chapter will go for direct primaries is targeted at the governor.
As at Tuesday, all the 20 local government chairmen and 37 Local Council Development Areas’ (LCDAs) chairmen in Lagos have endorsed the governorship ambition of a dark horse, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a former Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions, who is now the Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSDPC).
Daily Independent gathered that the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms were purchased for Sanwo-Olu by the Mandate Group, a group of party leaders and local government chairmen loyal to Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
In a viral video circulating on Tuesday which was seen by Daily Independent, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, the APC State Vice Chairman, Lagos East Senatorial District, said their leader, Tinubu, has instructed them that Sanwo-Olu is the next governor of Lagos State.
Speaking further, Olusanya, who was a former Commissioner for Agric in Lagos State added that it was Tinubu who instructed them to queue behind Babatunde Fashola in 2006, queue behind Governor Ambode during the 2015 election and now support Sanwo-Olu as the candidate for APC in the 2019 elections.
He said, “In 2006, we were in the council, cabinet of Lagos State. We have a large number of aspirants wanting to be governor. When Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) gave the signal, those of us who believe that this is a visionary leader who can be trusted, because it is God who appoints a leader in a season. This season, this is the man whom God appoints and we all accepted.
“Where (he) Tinubu directed us then, many protested then that his preferred candidate doesn’t know anybody in the party, be it ward, women, or party leader. Then, we went to Adebola House, it was a serious fight but our oga (leader) insisted that this is my preferred candidate who will succeed me as governor of Lagos State? Did we enjoy him or not? We enjoyed him because he performed creditably well.
“During the 2015 election, our oga again gave signal. Some people again protested, saying this person you are canvassing for the position is just a civil servant. Each time oga makes recommendation or say this is where we are going, some of us who believe in him, we don’t question it.
“We follow it and we have never regretted it. This one that oga has again given us and we accepted it because we believe our oga and we believe in God because it is God that chooses a leader in any season. The leader God has chosen for us, this one he has given us as his preferred candidate, we will be successful.
“We may be wondering why is this so? But if we yield to our boss’ direction wholeheartedly, we will be happy at the end of it. His preferred candidate right now is our man, our brother, our son, our member, our friend. It is the person Jagaban hands over to us as his choice, we will follow. By the grace of God and the support of the people of Lagos State, we will assume the leadership in the State House by God’s grace. Sanwo-Olu will sit as the next governor of Lagos State. If he assumes the position, none of us will be missing in action”.
Olusanya’s position was corroborated by Cardinal James Odunmbaku, the former Deputy Chairman of APC in Lagos, who emphatically said, “Honourable Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the incoming governor of Lagos State”.
Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, a local government chairman who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they have respect for Ambode as governor but their ultimate loyalty as far as Lagos politics is concerned goes to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the political godfather of the state.
The female council boss when asked about the earlier endorsement of Ambode by the 57 council chairmen in the state said, “Yes, we all endorsed Ambode for second term given the fact that he performed and the tradition in the state since 1999 where serving governors are asked to return. But now that our party leaders have withdrawn support for the governor, we have no option than to toe that line”.
