TravelRe: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by coachee1(m): 4:48pm On May 09, 2016
@lady Guinivere
Please i need guide on how to properly present my case during my interview
I got an iv from my brother in law
And im currently a full time university student here in nigeria.

1. Do i present my student status as a tie(azin izit strong enough)
2. Is it an advantage or disadvantage for my brother in law who invited me to be footing the whole travel bills
3. Do i need to have any other purpose of travel aside visitation eg. Like student's conference/work shop.
4. I know i'll get the visa but what is the possible length of approved stay if i use my student status as a tie.

One love.

djunit1: If asked, and you reply "my grand mother is an alumna of bla bla bla" That can almost guarantee you your visa
Thanks. Nice tip

bigfrancis21: Yes. The reason is plausible enough. Put it this way, 'my paternal/maternal grandfather is a distinguished alumnus of the school who studied B.Sc/MS in xxxx(say his course). He's of the class of 1970(the year he graduated) and he told me a lot about the school'.
well noted. Thanks boss.

bigfrancis21: Replied you. We're now connected.
thanks.
My man, I wan ask this questione mek others learn too....... My grandfather attended the same school where am heading to for his masters. Though he is retired now here in Nigeria. When asked how did i get to know my school, is it bad to say: "actually, my grandfather attended the school so thats how i got to know about the school?"
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by coachee1(m): 12:31am On Jul 25, 2013
bigfrancis21: @Bolded...Kunle that is your greatest undoing. Adults from 25 and over going for undergraduate study are a big no-no for the VOs let alone someone of 30+ years. How do you intend to catch up when you left high school over 14 years ago?shocked (I'm assuming you're 32 and you left high school at 18). When the US educational system leaves no chances for gaps in education? These and many others are exactly what run in the minds of VOs when they meet cases like yours. Your type of case is not a case the VO will be willing to grant visas except you have a very cogent reason.

Please for your own sake and improved chances of getting the US visa, forget your paroles whatsoever of undergraduate study and switch to masters. Apply for masters to a good school that has 'university' in its name. Write either GRE or TOEFL and go back again. Your next interview story here will be a success story. I can assure you that.
mr Biggs(bigfrancis) I sent you a mail pls reply so i can fully hala you on my status. My interview is next week. Thanks

Go get it and bring the good news here for us to celebrate......

topzy2000: My Interview was just about 3 minutes. Nice and jovial looking VO. She doesn't really type anything on her system, probably cos have been there before. It went like this...

VO: Morning. How are you.
Me: Am great. Thank you.
VO: So you will be going to IIT right ?
Me: Yes
VO: So who is sponsoring you.
Me: My Dad
VO: What does he do?
Me: He retired from civil service some years ago. He works as a consultant now based on his past work experience and he is into real estate. He has properties in Lagos worth millions of naira
Vo: Do you have any proof he can take care of your expenses ?
Me: Sure. I pass my financial statements.
VO: She checks them in 10secs and passes it back.

She then passes me a paper that I should pick up my Visa on Friday. smiley smiley smiley smiley

I would confess I prayed and fasted on this matter and God favoured me. Prayers indeed work.

A student guy also did just before me and he got his Visa also.

I see a lot of peeps getting their Visas this week. Amen smiley
congrats topzy.... I cant wait to go get mine too.

vivysparkles: If I remember correctly, during ur last interview, u failed to properly explain to the VO what uve been doing from ur graduation till now. Ur response was ' working in the church for 5yrs' . I hope uve found a better response than that now. Also ur sponsor affidavit/letter dint have a specific amount on it. Hope uve made dt correction too. Also find a compelling reason for why your employer is the one sponsoring ur studies
Good luck!

yeah bro. But i already filled my ds160 for abuja. Can it be changed?
bigfrancis21: If I remember, you were denied initially at Abuja, right? Why don't you try Lagos this time? Abuja has been having an awfully low approval rate this season and Lagos a higher approval rate. Try Lagos this time. You surely do not want to come back to this thread bemoaning again.

bigfrancis21: Actually, the Abuja VOs tend to be more relaxed than Lagos VOs because they don't tend to experience the huge constant swathe of visa applicants that Lagos receives daily. Because of this, they tend to give you more time to explain your case.

However, student interview is unique to each person. The same dreaded Chinese (Chinko) lady known to be very stingy with visas granted some members here their visa. My cousin going to TSU first went to Abuja for her interview and met this same man you met who denied her. She then applied again to the Lagos embassy solely because she didn't want to reapply to the Abuja embassy again only to meet the same man, and this time she got her visa. Imperiouxx was denied at Abuja only to go to Lagos and got granted.

Its left for you to choose which place you want to go. I'd suggest you go to Lagos this time but whichever embassy your mind tells you to go, go there.

bigfrancis21: Yap. You'll meet whites there too. To avoid meeting the same man again, I think you should apply this time to the Lagos embassy.

As for airlines, I would suggest Emirates or any arab airline because they are usually very cheap. Avoid American/European airlines like a plague!!! They are very expensive. Since there's no airport in Abilene, you'll fly from Lagos to Houston (since Houston is still in Texas) and take a cab, bus, or the Greyhound bus to Abilene, Texas.
I heard that lagos interview is tougher than that of abuja and that there are slimmer chances of getting a visa in lagos than in abuja. Is that true?
Also will my previous visa denial affect my current visa decision?
