Goke7: Bulgaria was an excellent team, remember our group was one of the toughest with Argentina so our beating Bulgaria 3-0 with the likes stoichov, balakov, and all the other kovs was a shock to many so they coming third was a just a reflection of the group as all three countries had 6 points each with us topping the group by just goal difference. Bulgaria also beat Argentina we lost to confirming how strong they were. Compared to Italy who only got 4 points in fact all the teams in the group all had 4 points with Italy scrapping through on goal difference. I watched the games in that group. The Italians were just lucky getting out of the group stage. For me they weren’t that inspiring even after eliminating us. Na experience carry them all through. The same score line they beat Spain and Bulgaria to get to the final. If they met more experienced sides they would have been eliminated much earlier. Argentina placed 3rd in our group not Bulgaria as we all ended on 6pts but we had +4 goal difference while Argentina and Bulgaria had +3goal difference and Argentina lost 2-0 to Bulgaria in their 3rd group match. |

No be all these ones wey dey draw 5 matches in 9 games. Drawing Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
For instance, if we had beaten Italy, who we likely to meet... Damn.
Can we ever get to that level. One more thing, is Kanu not in that team?? Kanu was dropped after our friendly with Sweden where we lost 3:1 in preparation for USA 94. I think same as Wole Odegbami. |

AndSunGorilla: In the early 80s, we had a certain John Chidozie (Lifebuoy soap) was an established player in England, but when he came home, he wasn't able to deliver like the Odegbamis and Adokies of this world. Sorry, was he established in Leyton Orient or where and established in what terms? Don't be quick to forget the likes of Efan Ekoku who had a decent record in English premier league whilst with Wimbledon and also did not find his feet in the Super Eagles possibly because of the style of play he was used to and relatively none of our main stars played in England at the time. |

BlueRayDick: The guy say na since 1993 he don dey watch Serie A and the current crop of defenders in Serie A beat all defenders EPL is parading. You quote wrongly and out of context to achieve what exactly? I said I had watched Serie A mainly up till 1993 and from 1996 I started supporting Chelsea. I also said the calibre of defenders Osimhen faced whilst at Napoli were better than the Calibre of defenders in the EPL at the same period. You proceeded to ask me to list quality defenders that you will compare with their English counterparts on the grounds of their respective matches in EUROPEAN CLUBSIDES TOURNEYS which you haven't done. |

forgiveness: Yekini, Rufai and Stephen Keshi were product of 80s. What do you have to say about that?
Segun Odegbami was not hype. The reason he made 2nd and 3rd best African player in 1977 and 1980 respectively.
He was crucial to our first AFCON glory and African league glory by winning the first Africa club trophy. Africa cup Winners cup in 1976. He made world Team of the 20th Century first 11 for Africa in "1998". Why was he included ahead of others?
Most of you didn't know that the 80s set played at the Olympics. It was not under 23 but full football tournament rivaling FIFA.
Adokiye Amiesimaka was a master dribbler better than any left wingers we ever had but problem is he doesn't know how to score goals.
Nevertheless, a fine player. The 80's set of Green Eagles went to the Olympics in USSR because Ghana withdrew (in boycott of USSR invasion of Afghanistan) hence we replaced them. That is a more complete narrative. |

For me any starting 11 should be as good as their National, Continental and Local league abilities with the 1st two abilities being of greater significance. Note that Continental implies UEFA CL, EUROPA LEAGUE UEFA CONFERENCE LEAGUE(OR THEIR PREDECESSORS), COPA LIBERTADORES, COPA SUDAMERICANA(OR THEIR PREDECESSORS), CAF CL, CAF CC(OR THEIR PREDECESSORS). National implies qualifiers for Nations Cup and Nations Cup proper as well as World cup qualifiers and World Cup proper. Local implies leagues in which the player was/is based in and maybe quality of oppositions |

BlueRayDick: I asked him to name the defenders to see if there are some other defenders in the league other than those we all watch play regularly.
I was surprised because even teams like Crystal Palace in the EPL parade quality defenders like Guehi. Maybe he doesn't watch EPL often and watches more of Serie A sha On the contrary, I am a Chelsea supporter and watch both. Growing up in Lagos we mostly watched Serie A on Saturdays and Sundays before 1993 and I was a fan of Juventus. I started supporting Chelsea in 1996 after the emergence of Ruud Gullit and Gianluca Vialli as managers. |

We will also look at the defensive performance of Serie A teams against other European teams while at it. Currently, Alessandro Bastoni , Denzel Dumfries Federico DiMarco and Francesco Acerbi of Inter Milan, Matteo Gabbia of AC Milan, Jhon Janer Lucumi of Bologna, Odilon Kossounou and Berat Djimsiti of Atalanta. |

Mention the defenders of note that are currently plying their trade in the Serie A and let's check their defensive stats both in their league and against other European teams. I will but true objectivity starts with understanding the point of analysis was from when Osimhen played in Serie A till date. |

Kog45: Oh very sad day for me,even till date I hate watching the match...Oliseh due to inexperienced cost us the game, all he needed was a simple tackling but wanted to win the ball I do not think it was Oliseh's inexperience because it would have shown in the group stages of USA 94. In retrospect the Azzuris led by Arrigo Sacchi did some chess moves on us and even with 10men crippled us. When Amuneke was injured and YEKINI somehow phagocytosed in that game reasoning was not to feature Oliha but bring in Ikpeba or Even an Ekoku to create more instability for the Italians. We rather opted for a defensive approach and if you remember that game yes Oliseh seemed like the culprit but twas really our dear Austin Eguavoen's wing that was exploited. |

Kimbeast: You are now sounding incoherent. Mbappe has world cup and champions league performance Pedigree before going to Spain. Lack of playing in the two biggest leagues is one of the reason he hasn't won the Balon dor despite world class seasons in Ligue 1.
You are only deceiving yourself cus everyone including you knows Seria a level is not comparable to England or Spain but whatever floats your boat. Isak has shown his goalscoring ability in the two best leagues unlike Osimhen. EOD I will rather rate goals scored in Italian Serie A higher than the English PL. THE DEFENCE IN SERIE A WAS AND STILL IS STRONGER THAN THAT IN EPL. |

My Super eagles all time XI 1 Goalkeeper-Vincent Enyeama
2.Right back- Efe Ambrose: Defensively and offensively astute with a minimum to zero rate of gifting the opponents dangerous freekicks or penalties.
3.Left back- Ben Iroha: Injury prone but top notch in his performances barring France 98.
4.Center Back- Stephen Keshi
5.Center Back- Uche Okechukwu
6.Defensive Midfielder- Sunday Oliseh
7.Central Midfielder- John Mikel Obi
8.Attacking Midfielder- Austin Okocha
9.Right Wing Forward- Finidi George It's rare to see someone move from Sharks(or was it Iwuanyanwu Nationale)in Nigeria to Ajax and displacing a known Marc Overmars. All these on the basis of National team contribution/significance.
10.Center Forward- Victor Osimhen: Despite not winning AFCON yet but emerging from Serie A as your teams goleador. And replicating it a season later with another in Turkey yet consistent in European main competitions and effect in the National team makes me drop YEKINI for OSIMHEN.
11.Left Wing Forward- Emmanuel Amunike.
If I didn't explain on certain people, to me they were and are still simply astounding to be compared |
