derecho: OK o. All I'm saying is don't be bitter against the igbos( a whole tribe) because of a few soldiers assuming it actually happened. And don't stereotype people. They're good and bad people everywhere.
Ko ju be lo they also attacked Ore, for them to attack Ore means they also attacked the Binis but you don't hear the Binis screaming marginalization. as long as people like you who don't see anything wrong in killing people of a different ethnicity than you are still alive then I have to continue to protect myself and ethnicity and there are millions like you.. I am not bitter against the I:gbos and I don't stereotype people.. I profile people.. I know and accept that people will put their ethnicity first but people like you call it bitterness when you meet someone who put their own ethnicity and interests first and that's greedy and evil of you. people like you that cannot condemn your fellow igbo men for killing yoruba indiscriminately that are filled with bitterness and the fact that you're even saying "assuming it actually happened" shows your bias, bitterness and hatred towards Yoruba people.. you even started speaking Yoruba just to deflect and you also started hiding behind the "They're good and bad people everywhere" excuse.. you're a stone cold violent Igbo supremacist ... |

derecho: Oga be objective na...so if a Yoruba soldier does same in the North, he automatically becomes a pro-Yoruba nationalist?
It's not a matter of non-igbos being fools.it's a matter of perception. Once a person is biased, he is likely to see everything through a jaundiced standpoint. For example, an igbo person who believes Yorubas are fetish would never believe a Yoruba Pastor no matter how clean he comes.
The nzeogwu you are even mentioning wasn't in support of Biafra Try to read up about him. I am a very objective person... the killing of Yorubas by Nzeogwu happened in the north... so if a Yoruba soldier does it then yes that soldier is a violent pro-Yoruba supremacist not nationalist... the important word here is violent... you can be pro-igbo, pro-yoruba e.t.c. and not be violent especially violent towards other ethnic nations.. but the problem is most Igbos who are pro-igbos and most ful:anis who are pro-fu:lanis are violent towards other ethnic nations and are supremacists and they want to practice their supremacy outside their ethnic regions.. How can one of the main igbo soldiers whose supremacist actions led to the coup and civil war not support Biafra that's like saying because a ful:ani soldier is married to an I:gbo woman and the ful:ani soldier shoots indiscriminately at unarm ig:bo women and children then that fu:lani soldier is not a pro-fu:lani supremacist just because his married to an Ig:bo woman. you see your logic |

derecho: You clearly don't understand what happened. It's unfortunate that the coup was daubed "Igbo coup" because of the key officers involved.
E be like you don't understand what it means to be marginalized. Azikiwe ruling Nigeria doesn't detract from his people being marginalized thereafter. Even the Fulanis in power today can be marginalized when Buhari leaves. So let's not dwell on that You don't know what marginalized means... It is impossible to marginalize an ethnic nation that has a region to itself or is the majority in a region.. It is not marginalisation when Buhari leaves because that's what government and politics is about, there will always be change of staff and ministers when a new president is elected. The people and ministers that worked with Trump are no longer at the white house but to you that means Biden is marginalizing them. You have a long way to go |

Nzeogwu was OBJ's guy and never supported Biafra So somebody that kills Yoruba soldiers who were his superior then shoots indiscriminately at unarmed Yoruba women and children is not pro-igbo or pro-biafra to you.. you must think I'm a fool and this is another issue most Igbos have... That said, do you think the Southwest won't feel marginalized if the same thing meted out to the igbos was done to them? Do you honestly think, Yoruba nation wouldn't have been birthed by now? Igbos have been in the center many times.. Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first president of Nigeria from 1963 - 1966.. why will the Igbos do a coup when they already had the president.. even after the civil war, many igbos have served as vice presidents of Nigeria under military rule... so they have never been marginalised.. |

derecho: If any tribe has ever experienced war in their homeland. It is the igbos. So they know and ordinarily won't want war. What I think is the matter is the marginalization and hate. If after the war and loses, the Igbo man still opt for secession even if it ends in another war, then know that they know that it's worse to stay with those who hate them. My prayer is that it doesn't get to that because the length and breadth of Nigeria will feel it and it wont end in 30months. Africa sef will feel it.
Though, I don't see why we need to go our various ways but I hate slavish existence. If you want them to be part of Nigeria, then treat them as one Igbos are not marginalized.. the way Nigeria is structured, ethnic nations that control a state can never ever be relegated, igbos control at least 5 states, the states means indigenous government officials ( Igbo officials ) will always receive funds. If Igbos were marginalized then that means that since 1970 they have not received any allocation from the FG and they have never held any federal government political appointments.. |

Vado: Shut tha fork up and stop preaching crap to the Igbos. They have proven their bravery during the Biafran war and they certainly don’t have a problem standing for their cause. Even as a Yoruba man , I respect that. Mistakes obviously were made in the past, chiefly by Aguyi Ironsi for this unitary bullcrap but that doesn’t stop people with sense to initiate processes to right the wrongs. Freedom comes at a price and if it’s blood it’s going to take, so be it. Even Christ cleansed us with blood.
Let people chart the course for their destinies and quit being a lilly liveried alarmist. No Yoruba person will ever say the bolded... below ( gotten from wi:ki ): "According to a Nigerian Police Special Branch Report, nzeogwu executed at least 4 army and police security personnel including one of the men on his team (Sergeant Daramola Oyegoke). nzeogwu also participated in the execution of Col. Raph Shodeinde, his superior officer at the Nigerian Military Training College and is reported to have shot indiscriminately at fleeing women and children..".. the statement above shows pure hatred for Yorubas and a lot of igbos all have this similar behavior towards Yorubas.. the aim of the Igbos like Azikiwe, Ironsi, Ojukwu e.t.c. was to control the revenue of other regions especially the western region ( Yoruba region ), that's one of the reasons why Ironsi abolished the regional system of government. In summary, the bravery of the Igbos in killing Yoruba soldiers, Yoruba men and women and children is what you say you respect.. if truly you are Yoruba then you are a disgrace to the Yoruba nation.. JohnBullMySon: Oga their duty is to develop grassroot sports generally and development of young people. Check their Act of establishment and definition of statutory powers and duties. If you don't know the role of your government ministries you'll keep on blaming the wrong people all the time. The ministry doesn't fund NFF. NFF is obligated by FIFA to be self reliant so as to avoid government control. But due to inability to meet that. The Federal government gives NFF something called Subventions or Intervention fund. NFF sole job is to support and regulate the national team as well as professional football in Nigeria.
Go and read your legislative acts your senators and reps wrote and amended. They're not there just to collect salary and share bags of rice in your village. How can a federation support and regulate the national team as well as professional football in Nigeria without developing grassroots that's like saying parents should only support and regulate their children and its the job of the government to develop the children.. |

We're talking about one of the most corrupt countries on Earth.
We're so holy but we're number two in the world when it comes to paternity fraud.
We're so respectful but people still have the mind to rape women in God's church.
We're so caring but we kill cats on a daily basis because we think they're witches and wizards.
We're so honest but every year we pay for runs when our children want to write exams.
We love to criticize politicians but we keep quiet when a family member becomes one.
See don't even get me started. I don't want to derail this thread. Nigeria is not corrupt, Nigeria is greedy... European countries are more corrupt than Nigeria they call corrupt. Most Nigerian women usually get pregnant for their boyfriends before they marry so that paternity fraud rank is very fake.. women get raped in europe and U.S.. Only a section of the country thinks cat are wizards and witches... there's a stray cat on the roof of the bungalow beside my house and no one has killed it.. Only a section of the country pays for runs for their students.. Nigeria's problem especially southern Nigeria's problem is lack of ownership of companies and relying on FDI while northern Nigeria tries their best to use their favorite billionaires to own companies. because the person who owns the company keeps the profits so more foreign owned companies means foreigners take the profits out of Nigeria and this under-develops Nigeria... more northern Nigerian billionaires owned companies means northern Nigerian billionaires take the profits out of southern Nigeria... so politicians aren't the problem, the problem are the governors who can't build state owned companies so that they can keep the profits.. for example, what will it cost Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom to build state owned oil companies and keep their profits and also get 13% derivation. |

Danielnino00: You guys are being unnecessarily petty... Going after foreign borns isn't an issue.... I don't know what angle thegoodjoe is getting at, but for me, the NFF shouldn't be spending so much resource just to convince one or two foreign born players to represent us when such resources could be channelled into developing our grassroot football back home . It appears that the NFF don't have much interest in developing our grassroot football, which is unfortunate, seeing as it has always been a source of pride for us. See, I'm also a big basketball fan and I support our national team passionately.. The men and female team is filled 95% with foreign born players and i totally support it.. Why? because we aren't a basketball playing nation! We don't have the talent and resource for it.. But you see America, we have plenty of people there who develop the passion for the sport back there . But the same can't be said of football... The NFF shouldn't, in the in their relentless pursuit of FB players forget their primary responsibility of developing our football back home.. Nigeria is a basketball playing nation... In Universities and stadiums, people play basketball in their free time, even Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis.. Nigeria's major problem is creating and maintaining a league structure annually and the reward system... the reward system is important because it also affects our Football with players complaining about bonuses not been paid and some Nigerian officials who think and believe Nigerian athletes shouldn't be rewarded at all same reason Nigerian officials took phones and other gifts that Japan rewarded all athletes at the Olympics.. the reward system will be different in countries. If a University hosts a football competition and says every person who can make their Department team even those on the bench will get ₦1,000,000 everyone in the department will go for trials.. |

Football development at the grassroot level lies with the ministry. the sports ministry is a ministry for all sports not just football so football development is not business... their duty is to provide funds to the NFF and other federations to develop their sports... Excellent knowledge of the round leather game but poor man management skills. Same thing destroyed Oliseh.
Whether you like it or not, Nigeria will always remain second choice to 99% of these foreign born players and the last thing you can do is to blame them.
What has Nigeria ever done for them? What has Nigeria ever done for their families? Is it not the same Nigeria their parents ran away from? Is it not the same Nigeria that is known for poor treatment of its players: both old and new?
What is so attractive about our football both on and off the pitch that they should feel so excited to commit to?
Why do you feel so entitled to their loyalty when you contributed absolutely nothing to their growth?
Or you want them to commit just because you are Nigeria and you feel you are worth it
We should even be ashamed to still call ourselves the Giants of Africa. We lost that attribute a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.
I used to blame these foreign borns a lot but I sat down and had a rethink. I am against BEGGING them but you can't tell me that trying to convince them to weigh their options and choose us is a bad thing. Ashleigh Plumptre made Nigeria her first choice... Nigeria educated their parents. Nigeria gave their parents jobs which their parents used to save up enough money to be able to migrate legally and seek permanent residency... Nigeria gave their parents a network of other Nigerians like them in the diaspora to relate with.. Nigeria gave their parents a stable life so that when they migrate they can also have a stable life there and avoid police troubles.. Nigeria ensured their parents were mentally stable and healthy to teach right from wrong.. How many Foreign Born Nigerian players parents call them out the same way Ainsley Maitland-Niles mother was calling him out in the media How many Foreign Born Nigerian players have you ever heard that they have been accused of rape or beating a woman How many Foreign Born Nigerian players have you ever seen their brother or relative recording them beating a cat that's due to their Nigerian parents upbringing.. |

charlesemeka85: sports development in general is the sole responsibility of the ministry of youths and sports not the nff JohnBullMySon: I agree with you. But honestly, truth be told, it is not the job of the NFF to develop our grassroot football. It has never been their job. They can't even do it because they lack the finance. It takes a lot of money to achieve what is needed. Ahbi is it the cost of flight ticket to England and hotel or Airbnb to visit Olise that will be used to develop grassroot football?
Grassroot football is the responsibility of the sports ministry. It is called the Federal ministry of youth and sports development for a reason. The name is not a mistake. Go to their website and see their proper role. NFF is primarily for care and regulation of professional footballing activities in Nigeria and concerning Nigeria. That's why they visit our National team players often. Sports development is merely in a supporting role.
Whether it is due to corruption or lack of finance that made the ministry forget their duties, I don't know. The only thing they seem to know how to do is fight with pinnick over who becomes the SE coach. They'll leave their job to do another man's job. It is the responsibility of the federations to develop grassroot sports and not the responsibility of the sports ministry that's why the sports ministry funds the federations.. the sports ministry can also participate in grassroot football development but that is not its responsibility... It is called sports ministry so it has to participate in all sports grassroots programs not just football.. Its the NFF job to focus on football development and regulation. |

charlesemeka85: you said it all
Those against luring of diaspora born players are just emotional but for an enterprise to flourish one has to get rid of such mentality
A good example which is normal in Nigeria is employing your friend or relative who is not experienced or qualified for a particular post in your establishment at the expense of a top professional with years of experience just because of mere sentiment of helping a relative
By doing such your are doing your business no good and the chances of grumbling is high If the govt or private sector invests in football by building academies or stadiums.. roads that will lead to the academies and stadiums will have to be built and everyone will benefit from the infrastructure. If we rely on foreign players then that means no infrastructure will be built by the government and Nigeria will continue to rely on private academies. This is not a case of employing your friend and even if it is a case of employing your friend then that friend or relative will be qualified because people who own companies will not be friends with uneducated people. If you graduate with 4.8gp in accounting and my relative or friend graduates with 4.1gp in accounting then my relative or friend will get the job because they are also qualified for the job and I own the company so I decide who to employ.. and that is the advantage of the quality of your network and is also the same reason FBs like olise and eze and iwobi will get a club in the England before HBs like Nwakali and Sadiq and Awoniyi.. |

chrisooblog: I appreciate your concerns about the risk of the national team being populated with mercenaries like the Kevin Prince Boateng's of this world but the brutal reality is that if we want to stay competitive we would need the foreign based contingent to seriously beef our ranks.
The foreign born players get early and quality coaching unfortunately our bright young stars don't get.
Football like someone said has gone fully scientific. Even when you discover talents local talents you still have to rely on foreign clubs to polish them something most foreign born players have already under gone.
It's good we continue to groom and encourage our young talents but not shun the talented foreign guys too. These two approaches can be adopted simultaneously. The important goal in all of this is getting the best players to rep Naija. No single approach should be followed so single mindedly that the quality of the team suffers i.e. giving chances to a local prospect who is yet to live up to expectation while ignoring a genuinely talented foreign born player who might need just a little convincing. Maduka Okoye had not lived up to any expectations before he was called to the S.E |
