Nope..

Just like you're seeing with Senegal Nempalys Mendy and Gueye starting

S.E needs Ndidi and Onyeka to always start with Bonke and Onyedika as subs. Then Aribo, Iwobi or Nwakali playing CAM.

I had to watch that Tunisia game again early this morning, around 2am, I replay that goal 3times, and from what I saw, it was not maduka faults, he go down low to save the ball, only for it to bounce in front of him, he could not use bot hands in reflex,

he even got a hand to the ball, but not strong enough to prevent it from going in,

And again it could had been 2-0, there is another shot he palmed over at full length, Maduka is young, he will come good, thing is we had a shirty goalkeeper coach, to inspire he and Uzoho
It was Okoye's fault... stop making excuses for him...

it could have been 3 - 0, Aina also cleared the ball off the line in what was another mistake by Maduka Okoye because he completely missed the ball...

S.E can't wait for Okoye to "come good", Okoye needs to be benched, he conceded 4 goals today, If S.E concedes first against Ghana then all Ghana has to do is defend and drag both matches... Is it until Ghana beats Nigeria 4 - 0 that you will admit that Okoye is not good enough for the S.E...

Apart from Okoye, Awoniyi does not work well with Eguavoen's tactics and must be benched, Chuks needs to be benched and replaced with Ejuke or Amoo..

Ihenacho must never play midfield if his not striking then he should be benched....

He was very good in that Swedish league but it doesn't always translate that he will perform at a more competitive league.

He needs to prove himself first and preferably in a better league. So he is showing potential let's see.

the fourth thing is ensure Amoo is called up replaces Ihenacho's midfield position...

When RB Leipzig used that approach against Manchester City, it worked brilliantly. Maybe you will call that abysmal too.

It was a sound strategy and it would have been wrong to just press carelessly and get the team tired. It was sound process but the goal and red card disrupted the strategy.
We're talking about Tunisia not Man City and RB Leipzig..

Tunisia had at least 6 players out due to covid and other injuries.

They were a weakened team which means it's Tunisia that was supposed to use and was even using this defensive tactic until they noticed the S.E despite having all it's key players available was also playing defensive.

It wasn't a sound strategy when you consider Tunisia's situation..

It is called game management. It was not a defensive tactic but a mid block. If you go gung-ho against a side good at keeping the ball, you play into their game.

He kept a midblock meaning you press when the ball gets into the mid-zone.

Also, to keep the player fit for a high press in the second half. In the second half, you will watch the clock and increase the press as time ticks.

However, that goal spoilt the Dynamics but did not ruin he plan.

To me, that was sound strategic planning.
There was nothing sound and strategic about such tactic it made the S.E look abysmal and very negative.

A team can like that when they're leading not when it's 0 - 0..

It's was a show of poor game management..

I don't understand how issues are analysed here. Under Rohr we played drab football, anywhere-belleface football and lost to CAR and other low ranking teams.

Under Eguavoen, in just 3 weeks, we played just the normal Nigerian football. Nothing spectacular about it yet after we lost, the narrative - and the mockery from zuchyblink - is that we lost because we played champagne ghen ghen football but you overlook the fact that the champaign football took us to the 2nd round.

That match against Tunisia is the ugliest football we played at the AFCON. It was the most unchampagne like football we played at this Afcon. It was as if the team was channeling it inner Rohr spirit. Rachety, tetchy, broken football.

I know we lost but there's a promise in this team if we do not let that defeat to define this moment. Will Eguavoen learn nothing like Rohr learnt nothing if he stays five years on the job?
Two years contract won't be bad.
Eguavoen changed his tactics against Tunisia to be defensive, instead of sticking to his strong method which is attacking football and pressing football... He showed Tunisia too much respect maybe due to the fact that in 2004 he lost to Tunisia and then Okoye's error messed his defensive plan up...

Nigeria does not need a coach who changes tactics due to the opposition they are playing or what happened in the past between S.E coach and the opposition team.

How are you sure Eguavoen won't play defensive against Ghana or play the inner Rohr spirit. Rachety, tetchy, broken football they played against Tunisiahuh

If Eguavoen retains the job then he should stick to attacking football from the 1st half till the final whistle is blowned...

I still remember complaining about not crossing the ball sometime back. I just do not understand why we keep doing this.
Same reason Onauchu will look like a useless player in SE, but back to his club he will be scoring goals for fun.
Mind you crosses do not necessarily have to be high, main aim is to get it to the striker any which way.
timay1:
A good cross can always break the tightest of defense.
Just look at how Cameroon scored from a good cross.

So far in this tournament, Cameroon has scored a lot of goals just because they have good crossers of the ball.

Our own wingers and full backs are terrible at crossing the ball despite the fact that we have abundance of CF who are good in the air.

What a waste for us
our wingers were playing in positions that didn't favor them for crossing due their favorite foot..

Simon is right footed and playing on the left side so if he wants to cross he has to move the ball to his right foot then cross with his right foot.

Chukwueze is left footed and playing on the right side so if he wants to cross he has to move the ball to his left foot then cross with his left foot..

that's why they seem terrible at crossing... apart from that, its also possible that Eguavoen didn't instruct them to cross since they are players that like to hold on to ball they have to be instructed to cross the ball.

apart from that again, Super Eagles didn't usually have players in the box to cross to..

the Cameroonian player that crossed is right footed and playing on the right side so he doesn't need to move the ball to his favorite foot since he is already on his favorite foot.

Ihenacho's goal against Egypt was from a Simon cross that Egypt didn't clear properly..

There were a number of errors that led to the goal.

Aina rushed in to make an interception on the half way line against the No. 7 , misses and sprints back overtakes Msakni and blocks him off, ushering him on his inside at the same time getting back into position as Egyptian left back was on his right side.

Ndidi who is backtraycking Msakni tackles doesn't block him off but dives in and he get sold. Omeruo who is right in front of Msakni, just looked at him and doesn't block him off or attempt to put him off , he just looks.

He then gets a direct shot at Okoye who is asleep and not concentrating or had any anticipation, fluffs it like a school boy, terrible error.

Who is to blame, Ultimately Eguavon .

We are playing a very good team that's a wounded Lion. They have always had good team cohesion. That means your Midfielder need to work hard very hard to close down and break up the Tunisian play.

That means water carriers, hard workers, Midfielders that will tackle and make interceptions, that will backtrack and also attack, and Midfielders that run on diesel not petrol ,long lasting with huge amounts of stamina.

Certain player's are immediately excluded such as Nwakali, KC they will not NEVER work hard and backtrack.

That means wingers who press in unison and also defend. That excludes immediately Chukwueze he just does not do that both for club and nation. Ejuke or Iwobi would have been a better option.

Awoniyi was pressing mostly on his own.

The midfield duo of Onyeka and Ndidi would have presented a different option that would have protected the back four and contained Tunisia.

I probably would have started with Awoniyi and sub him with a very hungry Olayinka who would work very hard as he has a point to prove.
Finally, it's Eguavon fault , irrespective of whatever politics is at play. He needed to man up because it's reputation on the line. He had spent enough time with all these players to know who is who and make the best selection, he did not.
Not Eguavoen's fault..

No matter the amounts of clean sheets; if the strikers don't perform and the coaches do not have plan B, there won't be any trophy.

Tunisia was missing 12 players, had no coach, and was a team we should have easily beaten if Eguveon had a plan B..

CAR, Cape Verde and others have had success playing us by simply crowding us out and cutting off the wings. The thing that gets me is that it always seems impossible until it's actually done.
Plan B won't stop okoye's goalkeeping error.

Plan B won't make KC and Chuks to track back and help the defense.

Plan B won't make KC and Chuks to press the Tunisian defense.

In fact it was Eguavoen's plan B we played.

Eguavoen's plan A like we saw in the group stages was to press the opposition and attack.. unlike the match against Tunisia when the team was more defensive..

That loss was more a case of Eguavoen been tactically clueless.. The same way we effectively nullified Salah in our opening group stage match against Egypt, was the same way they marked out our most dangerous player..

I blame Eguavoen for not been smart enough to pull Simon out or switch him to another position while bringing in someone like Ejuke earlier on in the first half break to disrupt the "focus on Simon Moses" tactics of the Tunisians, he failed again in providing a balance in that midfield even when it was an obvious pattern right through the first half that Ndidi and Aribo were willfully crowded out by the Tunisians, given us no room to press forward...

A smart coach shouldn't have waited late into the second half when we were trailing by a goal to REACT, right on the hour mark of second half an intelligent coach should have already prepared subs and tweak his formation with Onyeka coming in to support Ndidi; thus nullifying the Tunisians in the midfield and give Aribo more luxury to press forward with Simon playing a more inverted role with special instructions to either of the full backs playing behind him to stretch out the flanks more by providing overlapping runs...

I no be coach, I no get UEFA coaching badge... But I have more IQ than most of these pretenders who call themselves coaches, any average coach with a brain would have beaten that Tunisian team, they were so poor that they were easily there for the taking...

Lastly; i for one don't think Okoye was responsible for our loss, however, he was responsible for the goal by Tunisia ...Those are 2 separate things..
Eguavoen is not tactically clueless..

It is not Eguavoen and Simon's fault that Chukwueze's wing was toothless, that's Chukwueze fault.

It is not Eguavoen, Ndidi and Aribo's fault that Ihenacho and Chukwueze did not track back and help the midfield and also track back to help the defense..

To lose a match, A goal has to be conceded, the goal the S.E conceded was due to goalkeeping error and since the goal was due to goalkeeping error then that means Okoye was responsible for our loss..

same way Edouard Mendy cleansheets last season helped Chelsea win the UCL..
same way donnarumma helped Italy win the Euros...

In fact, Now that I'm thinking about it, sometimes the difference between some teams is the quality of their goalkeepers and strikers but especially their goalkeepers..

Please African federation should get world class tactician with good backroom staffs at every level from under 17 - to the senior team..

It's embarrassing some scenes in this afcon, especially the refereeing, very appalling, like is our football a joke to caf?
some of this "minnows" like you call them also have footballers playing in euro:pean/asian/saudi/qatar leagues, If you follow news on players like Sadio Mane and Alfredo Morelos and the things they do for their communities back in home countries like building football academies, buying football boots, scholarships e.t.c then you'll realize the "minnows" also have football infrastructure from their players and also from euro:pean football clubs...

Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka e.t.c. are from the same FC Mid"tjy:lland in Nigeria.. and I'm sure other euro:pean clubs also have academies in the countries you call "minnows"..

A football team has only 23 players , so all the "minnows" need are the best 23 players or best 15 players who are playing for eur:opean/asian/saudi/qatar clubs to represent the country...

apart from players playing outside Africa and eur:opean clubs building academies, this African "minnows" also have natural resources that they can use fund their sports or football especially with Ch:ina giving out loans.. Corrupt "minnows" govt officials can invest money in sports or their govt itself can invest in sports..

In the 90s, there was no country giving out billions in loans to African countries to help build their infrastructure and ensure that infrastructure gets built.. It was all about poverty, coups and under-developing Africa...

so please don't compare 90s Africa to 2020s Africa, even eur:opean teams will struggle to beat a lot of African teams...

One of the key performance indicators in midfield above all else. Is WORK RATE, it doesn't matter how much dribbling you can do or skills you may possess. Without work rate you will amount to nothing.

When a Midfielder has the ball he is an attacker when he does not have the ball he is a defender. Thats the basics.

What makes your Ngole Kante so good is his phenomenal work rate. Then you add all the other attributes, interceptions, tackles, passing range , pace , shooting accuracy, skill and Excellent first touch.

This is why I was bewildered how Onyeka did not get into the team. Add to that Iwobi, the last two seasons has seen Iwobi work rate go tremendously up. Because Everton is a very hard working team , there are no passengers in the team.

In the Tunisia game we had a Midfielder who doesn't work that's KC. Him and a few others were lethargic and did not do the high press as s collective that got us so much success in an previous g as me. In addition they did not backtrack and defend.
you're not fully correct and this is where a lot of people mis-understand sports....

when a team has the ball they all change to an offensive approach while when a team doesn't have the ball they all change to a defensive approach when I say "they" I mean the entire team no matter their position..

In the Tunisia game we had a Midfielder and a winger that didn't want to defend and that's KC and Chukwueze..

which keeping error are you talking about? That was a swerved low rocket which will expose a lot of keepers. Am not trying to make a case for okoye but many goalies will be expose by that low drive

Also the midfield and defense didn’t provide any cover

Bros that game was won tactically by the Tunisians and from the very start of the game their game plan was obvious which is to hit us on counter

A tactical superior team doesn’t mean he will take over possession entirely but the work but in place when with the ball and off it as well

They carried their game plan perfectly by clipping our wings and wait for us on counter through the middle after noticing we normally hv only 2 players in that part of the pitch
The shot wasn't a strong shot..

it was goalkeeping error..

nothing like inferiority complex in the teams play, they were only outclassed tactically

Also subbing chukwueze for Chidera wouldn’t hv made any difference because both are similar

A case where the to flank players deployed were caged by the Tunisians what eguavoen needed was to instruct Moses Simon to dribble less and tuck in to the middle a bit then bring in an iwobi for chukwueze who naturally loves to drift to the middle from the flank to link up play with the forwards

An Onyeka pairing ndidi will automatically block the Tunisians from penetrating through the middle while aribo will be deployed as the teams AM and instructed to be present in the oppositions box when ever the team is attacking as well as track back to thicken the middle when the team losses possession
How can you call a win that was due to goalkeeping error mean they outclassed the SE ...

The SE weren't outclassed , their performance was below par compared to what they played in the group stages.

When we look at everything honestly, our biggest problem in this tournament was not taking our chances. We had the problem in each of our games. What helped us was that our defense did really well in the group stages. The only times we had defensive lapses, we were punished. Unfortunately, one of them came in the knockout stages.

Most of what people are saying now is because we lost. If we had taken out chance and won, the story would have been "even with a man down, we still played them and won". Na so football be. But now, some are saying Rohr would have not lost, forgetting that we were already on a downward trajectory, even losing to CAR at home.

We weren't supposed to have played well. We weren't even considered favourites until we started the tournament. All this anger is understandable sha. It is emotional and understandable. In my opinion, we should let Eguavoen continue if he's willing to. There's a lesson every coach learns and I hope this one is his.
Eguavoen should only continue if his never going to play the "inferiority complex" football we saw.... That's why people are angry...

he must also start with a midfield of Aribo, Onyeka and Ndidi in every starting eleven with Iwobi, Nwakali and Bonke as replacements.

then Ejuke should replace Chuks in the starting eleven then Onyekuru, Olayinka, Ebuehi, Aina should be ahead of Chuks on the bench..

Take it or leave it; Eguavoen got outcoached..

The 442 is outdated and 442 not only isolates our wing forwards leaving them to dribble into culdesacs, but we lack in the middle both on the defensive and creative sides...

We entered the tournament as underdogs so our group opponents had no idea was brand of football we would play. After the surprise factor was gone and the spotlight pointed at us, then it became a different story..
Eguavoen wasn't outcoached take it or leave it...

In the first 10 mins of the 1st half the Tunisians were defensive and playing with inferiority complex but they noticed we were also defensive and playing with inferiority complex just like them so they capitalized on it..

Plus the referee was not giving SE free-kicks and fouls.. SE should have had a penalty in the 1st half..

there was never any "surprise factor"...

In the group stages, SE played attacking football and off the ball they played pressing football..

Against Tunisia, SE played defensive and inferiority complex football and a totally different game from what they played in the group stages...

the loss was caused by goalkeeping mistake and not playing the football they played in the group stages..

Thank you,

and instead of the dribbling inwards, from the approaching of the 18yard box, they will rather stay on the flanks till they got there, then attempted to dribble in, Plus they were bereaved of ideas,

A Vicmo would had use those 3 to 4 players marking his, to draw fouls upon fouls, and it would had been them getting red, not us

Btw it is well, it had come and go, we hope for the best moving forward
the referee wasn't blowing for our fouls... so if Vicmo was here he will have just been frustrated by the referee because Vicmo is falls alot..

Even Omeruo was shouting at the referee...
