If we want to improve the NPFL, submitting a bid for AFCON wold be a great step. The cost implications of building an international seaport in Onitsha will be like quadruple of that needed to construct one at Ibeju Lekki Lagos, and you know why? Because of the enormous dredging project that needs to be done to widen and deepen the River Niger waterways to enable it carry large international cargo vessels. Such investment is beyond the capability of a small state like Anambra. It wont even be easy for richer states collecting huge federal allocations and IGR like Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Delta.


Only a federal government can carry out such massive project, and possibly through foreign loan or PPP.


Such project can only be embarked on if by any means Nigeria divides and Southeast becomes an independent country, by that time, the Southeast federal or central government won't have any other option than to embark on the project for their nation's economic and trade survival.
