I was financially comfortable but that didn't discourage me. When I left my place of work, I was mocked from all angle even my family members but today I'm in my 4th year going for 5th. Though, my businesses are really shaking but I know what I'm pursuing. So, save money and be ready to be mocked even in your class but medicine is a lifetime surebet.

No I'm not actively writing production code. I'm currently working in Business telephony aka VoIP. So I write and tweak config files to implement several dialplans (how calls get routed to what end user). Mostly Database and XML file config

A Software Engineer with a degree in Software Engineering is not self-taught, but has a solid understanding and knowledge of both Software Engineering and Computer Science and to also write robust software for industrial use.

This thread is not Computer Scientist vs Software Engineering but to show what a Computer Scientist can do that a Self-Taught cannot do which a lot of people who are not Computer Scientist are not aware of if not why then are all employers not saying they only want a degree in Computer Science.

First of all remove that picture you put there, if i was an employer, that would be the first red flag because it makes you look like someone that doesn't know what he is doing, and nobody like to employ those kind of people. With this kind of flashy & bright design, i can tell you were an electrician before jumped into programming. Just go back to your former job because i don't think you can make it in this field with these kinds of childish UI's.
