SportsGovernor Okezie Ikpeazu Contributes To The New Enyimba Stadium - Allsoccerplanet by Coldplayz2(op): 11:16am On Apr 07, 2016
Allsoccerplanet crew visited the Enyimba Football Club home ground located along Ngwa Road in Aba on Monday to see how far the club’s stadium renovation has progressed.

The Elephants project manager chief Reuben A. Chukwu, who was our tour guide around the 16,000 capacity stadium on the day revealed part of the renovation process is to change the natural grass and completely replace it with artificial turf (AstroTurf) and also change the old scoreboard to the modern electronic type.

https://www.allsoccerplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/ey3-1.jpg

Reuben also added that work began on the ground in January and is financed by the state government who have teamed up with club chairman Ayansi Agwu though development has stalled due to ‘financial’ paucity.

Paul Aigbogun’s side have been training in Port Harcourt since their pitch was ripped up as they prepare for Sunday’s CAF Champions League clash with Warri Wolves before they take on Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel on the 18th in a two-legged affair.

“Work started on the stadium in January and so far we’ve achieved some considerable success,” Chief Reuben told Allsoccerplanet empire.

“Though work has stopped for some weeks now because money is not available but our workers are always on ground.

“So as soon as the ministry of sports release more funds we’ll get back to work.”

President general of Enyimba Supporters Club Steve Ukweni Eke Ukoha added: “We really appreciate the efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his selfless support so far.

“We are hopeful the stadium will be ready for use before the end of June. I really hope we finish up before rains start pouring.”

Jobs/VacanciesPART 2: Important Things Recruiters Want To See On Your CV by Coldplayz2(op): 9:51am On Jul 20, 2015
In writing your CV in Nigeria, presentation is everything! Your content, layout, template, font type, font size, line spacing, bullets and borders are all crucial in achieving a great looking CV. If someone has 3 years of experience and another has 6 years of experience, and they are both applying for the same job, the ONLY thing that differentiates them is the way they both present their work experiences.

The basic elements of your CV in Nigeria should be profile, work experience, achievements (if any), trainings (if any), educational qualifications, bio-data, hobbies and referees. Please note that no particular format or template is cast in stone, every template can be amended to suit a particular requirement at any given time.

Profile

I would rather a profile to an objective. An objective is simply a goal while a profile is a brief description that summarizes your qualities, vis-a-vis where you are coming from and where you hope to be. It shouldn’t be more than two sentences or three short sentences at most.

Experience

Your experience(s) should indicate the name of the company, your designation/title, your job description and the duration of service. The address of the company is not compulsory except you are applying for a job outside of your state or country of residence. Your experience(s) should follow a chronological sequence (most recent to least recent). Also stick to the present tense when describing your current job description.

Achievements

This is a run-down of exceptional accomplishments you have bagged over a period of time. It can include a record breaking GP, an award, a surpassed target, an impeccable record and the likes. Your achievements are supposed to score you extra points with a potential employee but if it does otherwise, chuck it.

Bio-data

Your bio-data which consists of your date of birth, s*x and state of origin are not necessarily your most important details. Infact, it could serve as a disadvantage. Should you apply for a particular vacancy and you are past the age requirement, if your age is the first thing a potential employer sees, you are likely to be disqualified even before your CV is given a proper appraisal. So it’s best to keep those details at the tail end of your CV.

Things to Note

Chose bold and legible fonts
Use simple and unambiguous words. Leave no room for vagueness.
Have a focus and find a way to infuse your interest and specialization into your CV
Be accountable. Always account for time spent. Ensure your CV reflects that you are constantly adding value, honing your skills or getting more education.
Never include in your CV what you are not a 100% certain will be a plus.
Keep your CV to a maximum of three pages except you have had several years of experience.
Ensure that you can defend everything that you have written in your CV

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Checkout 20 Things Recruiters Do Not Want To See On Your CV by Coldplayz2(op): 9:23am On Jul 20, 2015
watch out for the second part of what should be on your CV
Jobs/VacanciesCheckout 20 Things Recruiters Do Not Want To See On Your CV by Coldplayz2(op): 8:56am On Jul 20, 2015
Recruiters have to get through hundreds of resumes in a short time.

Research suggests that the average hiring manager takes less than one minute to peruse a resume. Other studies show that they can do this initial check in six seconds. Larger companies use applicant tracking software to make the initial selection and they do that in a split second!

So, what are they looking for and what should you avoid mentioning? You have to try and get inside the typical recruiter’s mindset, which will reflect what is in the job description. If you can do that, you can enormously improve your resume.

Here are 20 things that will guarantee your resume ends up in the trash:

1. They do not want to see your duties listed.

All the day to day stuff you do to keep afloat is not necessary and nobody wants to know, least of all the
hiring manager. They just assume you know how to do these! Instead, focus on results you have achieved, how you increased revenues, cut costs or how you played a key role in improving productivity.

2. They do not want to see your life history.

Many applicants want to present a comprehensive resume and include all sorts of irrelevant information. For example, you might include summer jobs which are of no real interest to the recruiting manager.

The solution is to include information about experience and skills which are closely related to the job you are seeking. If the company is looking for someone with marketing skills, the manager will be looking for lots of relevant examples and successes in your marketing. If these are not prominent, then your resume is headed for the bin.

3. They do not want to see vague objective statements.

Writing about your rather vague objective of gaining more skills and experience is a real turn off for the
hiring manager. A classic one which cuts no ice at all is, “Seeking a challenging position that offers professional growth.”

Focus instead on this job. Concentrate on listing your experience and skills which will help you to land the job.
Read the job description again and again to make sure you have matched up the requirements with what you have to offer.

4. They do not want to see a line about references.

Did you know that 99% of applicants write a line stating, “References are available on request”? This is a waste of a line because space is precious when you have to keep your resume to a maximum of two pages.

A much better idea is to leave that out and have a list of reference names ready, should you be asked for them at the interview. Make sure that you have already contacted them so that they are ready to give you a reference, if requested.

5. They do not want to see your work email address.

Hiring managers do not want to contact you at your present workplace, for obvious reasons. It is also safer and more confidential for you.

Always leave a personal email address which has your real name, rather than your ‘cute’ email address.

6. They do not want to see unexplained gaps in your resume.

Courses, lay offs or even getting fired can result in a gap in your resume. Maybe you went freelance for
a while? Employers and managers are familiar with this and there is no problem with a gap.
When you are not prepared to explain the gaps or put a positive spin on them, then there may be an issue. If the courses or freelance jobs improved your skills in certain areas, then by all means include them and relate them to the skills required for this new position.

7. They do not want to see your skills that everyone else has.

When job applicants mention that they are completely at ease with the latest versions of Microsoft Office and Excel, hiring managers will yawn. Everyone working in modern offices have these skills.

If you are working on software development and applying as a software developer, then it might be relevant. If it is just part of your normal skills set for routine jobs, then do not mention this at all.

8. They do not want to see a messy and untidy resume.

This is a real turn off for recruiters because they cannot find the information they want quickly. The
best approach is to be as clear and concise as possible. Mention your name, present position and then relevant experience by mentioning the posts you have held. Make sure you put in start and finishing dates and use bullet points to mention responsibilities and main achievements.

9. They do not want to see your photo or other pictures.

Generally, the photo on the resume is superfluous. Also, the hiring manager does not want to be influenced by gender issues. Why should she waste one second of those precious six viewing your stunning beauty?

As we live in such a visual age, your photo is going to pop up sooner or later, for example on your LinkedIn page. The best thing to do is to make sure that your page does actually have your photograph!

10. They do not want to see irrelevant personal details.

Let us suppose that your church and sporting activities are not applicable to the job you are seeking. If that is the case, they are superfluous and should not be on your resume. The same goes for marital status and other personal details. Most of these are, in fact, illegal for a hiring manager to ask during an interview. So why include them in the first place?

If, on the other hand, you were managing public relations for a charity in your spare time and are applying for a job with a similar profile, then by all means, mention this.

11. They do not want to see fancy fonts or creative formats.

Did you know that many tracking systems strip out all the fancy stuff and the actual viewing format a
manager sees is in plain text? This means that, in many cases, your creative talents will go unnoticed and are a waste of time. If the manager is actually reading the hard copy or attachment, then creative formats may be a distraction and a hindrance. The solution is to keep it simple, clear and concise.

12. They do not want to see empty and poorly managed social profiles.

Yes, your social media profiles are looked at in the job hiring process. In one survey, more than one third of the recruiters are looking at these to filter candidates. Some estimates say that 92% of companies are using social media in their hiring process. If your LinkedIn or Google+ pages are not showing useful and stimulating content, nor connecting sufficiently with people in your industry, then forget it.

Always make sure that you are up to date with developments in your industry and that you are actively engaged. Show that you are a resource and help your connections solve problems.

13. They do not want to see resumes written in the first person.

Yes, they know it is YOU who is applying so there is no need to overuse the word ‘I’. Most applicants start
with ’Responsible for’ which is another way of saying ‘I was responsible for’. The best approach is to make it much more action oriented and start the sentence with ‘Managed…’ ‘Co-ordinated…’, ‘Designed….’, Cut
costs….’ Resolved issues……’ and ‘Led a team of 10…..’.

14. They do not want vague statements of success.

When you state that you have achieved something, you need to quantify it. It is not enough to say that you completed X project within the deadline. You need to go into more detail.

A good example would be: “Played a key role in the opening of a new branch. Since inception, client
numbers have tripled. There are at present 600 individual client files, with about 33% of these active at any one time.”

15. They do not want to see just a list of bullet points.

It may seem easier on the eye at first but when hiring managers are presented with only bullet points, it is actually difficult to read. The ideal resume will contain a mix of sentences interspersed with bullet points which are best for lists of figures or facts.

16. They do not want to see lies or exaggerated claims.

The hiring manager wants the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Some applicants think that a lie here or there is not going to matter one way or the other. They can also embellish their successes with exaggerated claims. Stick to the truth!

17. They do not want to see a one-size-fits-all resume.

You apply for lots of jobs and you always send the same resume. This is a grave error because each job is different requiring particular skill sets, experience and so on.

Remember that each recruiter is looking for a resume that matches their company profile and the skill set for a particular position. A one size fits all resume can never do that.

18. They do not want to see cover letters.

There is a fair amount of debate about this but the consensus is that a cover letter is actually clogging up vital space and time. No one reads it.

Sometimes, though, a cover letter is required. It will depend on the company where you are applying. So pay attention to whether one is asked for.

The best solution is to concentrate on hard hitting statements in your resume which match the skills sets and experience and qualifications required.

19. They do not want to see your cool Word Header feature.

Many applicants want to make a good impression by using the Word header feature with their name. It looks prominent and cool. They are unaware that some scanning software cannot read this header, so your resume ends up as being from an anonymous applicant! Basically, stick to more conventional methods for displaying your name at the top.

20. They do not want to see positions dating back more than 15 years.

Did you know that ageist attitudes are still rife in the job market? By listing all the positions you have held since graduation means that you are going too far back. There is no need to put the date on things like your degree.

The general rule of thumb is to cap a limit of 15 years so that it does not become a historical or autobiographical document.

As we have seen, a resume is rather like an advertisement in which you show off your main features to entice the hiring manager to actually find out more.

If you avoid the 20 mistakes above, you could land that dream job. Good luck!

SportsSani Kaita Declared Missing by Coldplayz2(op): 4:53pm On Jul 07, 2015
The management of FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi has declared one of its players, Sani Kaita, missing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kaita, an ex-Super Eagles player, had joined the club on a three-year deal in May.

Coach John Obu however disclosed the player’s disappearance told on Monday in Awka.

He said the development was the reason why he could not successfully execute their match against the Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday because the player was not around.

Obu said the last time he knew anything about Kaita was when they went to Port Harcourt for the match against Heartland of Owerri on July 1.

He threatened that the club would report to the League Management Company (LMC) if the player failed to make himself available.

“What happened is, when we travelled to Port Harcourt, we were to leave immediately after the game and he was not part of those of us who left and up till now, we have not seen him.

“But, I don’t need to look for him, he needs to tell me where he is. If he fails to tell me where he is, then we will report to LMC of his absconding.’’

Obu however expressed satisfaction at his first win on Sunday in charge of the club, and promised that there would be improvement after assessing the contributions of the players.

He said every game would be tackled as a special task.

Kaita , a former Enyimba International midfielder, has played for Sparta Rotterdam (Holland), Monaco (France), Olympiakos (Greece), Lokomotiv Moscow, Kuban Krasnodar, FC Alaniya, Tavriya (all in Russia) and Metalist Khakiv (Ukraine).

BusinessENTREPRENEURS: How To Start A Catfish Farm by Coldplayz2(op): 9:42am On Jun 02, 2015
“Kafayat Food Canteen (KFC) is draining my pocket. I can't continue to buy catfish pepper soup at this exorbitant price!” Yes I love catfish but the cost price is what I hate. As a young exploring bachelor, I hardly cook; perhaps the reason for Kafayat’s incessant increases on the price of her point and kill catfish pepper soup. Enough is enough! I decided to visit my friend who is a catfish farmer to help teach me the rudiment of growing catfish at a non-commercial size.

Olusola, my age-long friend, told me that raising catfish can be fun and exciting for me but it can be a very expensive experience if I don’t follow a few basic rules.

Rule 1

I should not overstock. He said that the stocking density of a table sized catfish is fifty cubic metre and for me to determine the number of fish to stock in any rearing facility, I should simply multiply the length and breadth and height (in metres) of the water by fifty. Overstocking according to him will create food shortage, reduced oxygen in water for the fish and these can lead to cannibalism among the stocked fish and water pollution.

Rule 2

Feed stocked catfish well. Catfish convert feed at an average yield of about 1 kilogramme of fish for every 2 kilogramme of feed. He advised that I should feed twice a day but warned me against overfeeding because feed is money. The best time to feed the fish is in the morning around 8 am- at this time dissolved oxygen levels have started to rise- and no later than mid-afternoon around

Jobs/Vacancies10 Ways To Detect A Scam Recruitment Agency by Coldplayz2(op): 9:08am On May 25, 2015
What if you suddenly discover that job offer or interview letter you just received is a scam? Well...that scenario may not be really strange as many had already got their fingers burnt from fake job offers.

This article will enlighten you more and give you tips on how to prevent yourself from becoming prey for this scammers.

Employment scams are all over the place and much more in Nigeria where there are countless graduates roaming the streets, surfing the web looking for a fix. Scammers predates on unsuspicious job hunters who most times fall victims because they are also desperate to get a job. Tony Levene of theguardian.com said, “As the internet continues to evolve, so it offers ever-cheaper and easier methods to operate scams. Typing "graduate job opportunities" into a search engine returns a random mix of legitimate and fraudulent sites”. So how would a novice job seeker find a dream job without getting the fingers burnt? Here are ways you can tell if an offer is a scam.

Job Title or Description is Unclear
An advertised position must be specific, realistic and understandable from the go. If a position doesn’t spell out the role of the employee, you’ll help yourself by staying clear of it. The job title should also correlate with the job description. If you notice any information is been hidden unnecessarily then you may have to walk away.

You’re been asked to pay some money
According to ask metafilter.com if you have to pay for anything to get a job, it's a scam and anything includes instructional stuff, tests, and interview prep sessions. Legitimate job recruiters levies charges on the companies they hire people for and not the job seeker. Another thing they do is to take a cut of job seekers' pay checks (that’s after they might have secured the job). In some cases however, it’s the recruiter that is getting the paycheck and just giving the employee the cut. Whichever way, you have to be careful before signing any agreement with a recruitment agency. You must be sure you understand the terms before signing. Ask questions in areas where you are not clear and never pay anyone money to get a job.

Your pictures and personal information are been requested
When you’re been asked to send your photo along with your CV, be sure it’s a scam. No company requests for your photo with CV. All a company needs to shortlist you is your CV and nothing more. Don’t divulge any other information to avoid any case of identity theft or fraud.

It’s a Get Rich quick Scheme
Wages are expected to be reasonable and commensurate with the value of service being expected and the financial strength of an organization. But what can one say is the rationale behind some unrealistic jumbo pay some jobs offer? Jobsearch.about.com advises that you should avoid listings that guarantee you wealth, financial success, or that will help you get rich fast. They are pointers to scams.

You got Unsolicited Job offers
Miracles do happen but it has to come through a link. If you’ve never submitted your CV to a company or website and you got a job offer from them…please be careful. Scammers also look for email lists of job seekers and send unsolicited emails to them for a job that doesn’t exist. Such send you mails more often than not and can even be disturbing you with text messages or phone calls. That itself is unprofessional. Most genuine companies or recruiters won’t disturb you with emails, text messages and phone call. They can only send you reminders at reasonable periods.

You’re been offered transportation to the ‘place of interview’
If you’ve been asked to come to a place that you don’t know then you should run for your life. Scammers can offer to take you in a vehicle to a particular place for interview. Don’t be deceived, never enter any such vehicle. There have been cases where people are disposed of their belongings and left in jeopardy. It is even more dangerous in this era when kidnapping is on the high rise in Nigeria.

The building and interior of the recruitment center looks shoddy
Any well to do recruitment center would do their best to find a suitable environment for their services and since they make lots of money from the companies they recruit for, they have enough to properly furnish their centers to taste. Watch out where you go for recruitment or interview, it shouldn’t be a shack or located in an obscure place.

The email address is inconsistent
According to blog.ngcareers.com, a lot of scammers use common email service providers such as Gmail, Yahoo etc in their email correspondence. For example, a scam email address may look like this; careers@gtbank.org, careers@gtbank.net or careers@gtbanks.com meanwhile, the domain of GTB is gtbank.com. So you have to check the email address very well to know if it is consistent with the email of the organization it claims to be. You can lay your hand on a genuine product of the organization to be sure the email is correct. You can also check the website and look for their contact email if it is consistent.

There are grammatical errors or spelling mistakes
Genuine recruiters ensures high degree of professionalism in their correspondences therefore finding grammatical errors and spelling mistakes in an email can be an indicator that it’s a job scam. Every professional email should follow email etiquettes and abrupt use of exclamation marks and unnecessary word capitalization are unprofessional. You can also look for their website to spot these inconsistencies.

Before you go far with any job offer or recruitment agency, make sure you research the job and the company properly both online and offline. Look for their site to find how professional it is and whether they have jobs and career information posted on the site. Search for the company name on Google or any other job search directory. Jobsearch.about.com advises that you can go a step further by searching for “company name scam”. This would help you know if a scam has been reported concerning the recruiters or company before.

10. Oliver Kahn

The German legend is hailed as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all times, but his irascible nature often got him into heated disputes with the opposition players. During a match back in 1999 against Borussia Dortmund, Oliver Kahn nuzzled Dortmund striker Heiko Herrlich’s neck. To add insult to injury, Kahn went with a kung-fu style kick towards Dortmund striker Stephane Chapuisat. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

9. Jermain Defoe

Back in 2006, Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe reacted rather violently to a challenge by the Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano. He reacted to a nasty tackle from behind from the Argentine, who was playing for West Ham United at the time. Defoe moved his head towards Mascherano in retaliation, and bite his arm through his shirt, as a skirmish between the teams followed.

https://www.allsoccerplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Nobby.jpg

8. Nobby Stiles

England and Manchester United midfield legend Nobby Stiles is another player who joins the list of footballers who have taken a bite into the opponent’s flesh. During the 1966 World Cup final against West Germany, England’s midfielder Nobby Stiles is thought to have gummed at least one opposite players. Dubbed “The Toothless Warrior”, Stiles is still fondly remembered by United fans.

7. Vinnie Jones

Back in 1995, before England’s ultimately abandoned match against the Republic of Ireland, former Wales midfielder Vinnie Jones, on a drinking session, grabbed Daily Mirror journalist Ted Oliver in a Dublin hotel, put him in a headlock and bit him, leaving blood pouring from his face. Jones didn’t show any remorse, jokingly saying that he always did that to people. A complete psycho!

https://www.allsoccerplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Dennis-Wise.jpg

6. Dennis Wise

Former England and Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise was renowned for his competitive and aggressive style of play but he carried it too far when he nipped Real Mallorca defender Marcelino on the hand, back in 1999. Wise escaped punishment by Uefa after his alleged bite on the Real Mallorca centre-back. The Chelsea captain had been sent off four times that season, a clear sign of his eruptive nature.

https://www.allsoccerplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/soccer-bite.jpg

5. Francisco Gallardo

Players who have been allegedly accused of biting, have usually acted upon an opposition player, but Francsico Gallardo chose his team-mates instead. Back in 2001, the Sevilla striker Franscisco Gallardo decided to get a taste of his team-mate Jose Antonio Reyes during a goal celebration. Alas, he chose a rather delicate piece of the anatomy of the target, bit Reyes on the penis. Gallardo was later suspended by the Spanish Football Federation.

4. Joss Labadie

Dagenham’s midfielder Joss Labadie is the type of player who doesn’t learn from his mistakes. The 24-year-old was accused of sinking his teeth into the hand of Stevenage defender Ronnie Henry in Dagenham’s 1-0 win on March 28. The Football Association banned him for six months. Labadie had earlier been suspended for 10 matches last season after biting a Chesterfield defender while playing for Torquay United.

3. Gianmario Comi (aka ‘The Vampire of Serie B’)
Avellino striker Gianmario Comi sparked huge controversy after biting Bari’s striker Giuseppe Di Luca during a Coppa Italia clash last summer. Surprisingly enough, Di Luca was shown the red card for his reaction and he tried in vain to show the mark left by Comi’s bite to the fourth official. No action was taken against the Avellino striker, as there was no footage of the incident, according to the league rules.

2. Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez is perhaps one of the deadliest strikers around and without doubt one of the best finishers, but he is also renowned for his antics on the pitch. With much of the world watching, Suarez was found being up to his old antics once again. During the clash between Italy and Uruguay last summer, Luis Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder. The Uruguayan striker was banned for 4 months.

1. The Swiss Super League pine marten

Back in 2013, an unruly marten invaded the pitch during a Swiss Super League match between Thun and Zurich, expertly evading capture by any means necessary. After running across the pitch once, the little animal was captured but eventually broke off and ran across the pitch before getting tackled by Zurich’s Loris Benito. The furry pest bit Benito on the finger, but he held on and carried it off.

Jobs/Vacancies12 Must Have Skills For Startup Employees by Coldplayz2(op): 9:52am On May 20, 2015
These are important skills every Startup Employee should have

1. SELECTIVE BLINDERS
“The ability to focus and execute is essential in a startup business, and the employees who can ignore bright, shiny objects and accomplish their objectives are golden. It’s a balancing act, surely, but the essential and well-executed project is more valuable than a dozen could-have-been-great and abandoned projects.”

- Kelly Azevedo | Founder, She’s Got Systems

2. PROFESSIONAL FRIENDLINESS

“Many people, especially Millennials, want to work with their friends. Knowing how to share or take a joke and balancing openness with professionalism are both important in making the work environment comfortable and sustainable.”

- Lisa Nicole Bell | Founder/CEO, Inspired Life Media Group

3. THE COMPLETE PACKAGE

“In Gran Torino, Clint Eastwood’s character says “I finish things, that’s what I do.” That’s what I want in a startup employee. I want them to start a project and then finish it. If it’s successful, even better, but if it fails, that’s fine too. Just start and finish. If you do that, you’ll go far.”

- Nathan Lustig | cofounder, Entrusted

4. CAN YOU USE GOOGLE?

“At a startup, employees are constantly needing to grow their skill set so they can manage more projects, clients, and other employees. Much of the time, their managers or the founders don’t have the time to teach everything, so an employee who can look up how to do a lot of things proves to be invaluable. That employee also is well positioned to do more and be recognized for it.”

- Victor Wong | CEO, PaperG

5. ABILITIES IN AMBIGUITY

“The most successful startup employees are comfortable with uncertainty and the likelihood that circumstances can and will change on a dime. They thrive on the pressure of doing the best work they can in the moment.”

- Alexandra Levit | President and Founder, Inspiration at Work

6. SELL, SELL, SELL!

“One of the most important yet hard-to-find skills for startup employees is sales. If an employee can sell — whether to customers, investors or fellow employees — s/he will be more likely to get promoted. If you’re looking to get promoted, sharpen your selling prowess; it will serve you well throughout your career, and especially at a startup where all sales are an uphill battle.”

- Doreen Bloch | CEO / Founder, Poshly Inc.

7. WHERE’S YOUR INITIATIVE?

“Apples don’t usually fall off trees into waiting baskets — and neither do opportunities. If employees want to get promoted quickly, they should show initiative by seeking out opportunities actively — in everything they do. Initiative is especially fundamental quality for a startup or small business because there is always more to be done, and never enough people to do those things.”

- Vanessa Nornberg | President, Metal Mafia

8. PROJECT MANAGEMENT, PLEASE!
“As an employee, if you show your attention to detail when juggling multiple projects at once, you will be in a better position to get noticed and promoted quickly. Moving up the ladder means more responsibilities and more “management” and overseeing of projects. That’s why management and organization are so important as you move up to higher levels in the company.”

- Logan Lenz | Founder / President, Endagon

9. THE OPPORTUNITY MAGNET

“Employees should try to be an opportunity magnet. Employees that bring value to a startup or small business are the ones that are promoted. If you bring opportunities in the form of clients, partnerships, or valuable connections, your boss will know that you are a future leader of the company.”

- John Hall | CEO, Digital Talent Agents

10. “INSANITY” MANAGEMENT SKILLS

“I can only speak for my business, but I’d imagine other startups experience those insane days, weeks and months when things are not going to plan, deadlines are tight and approaching, and the only way to have enough hours and get everything done is by inventing a time machine. Show me you can weather the storm and perform under pressure, and you will grow with us.”

- Justin Beegel | Founder, Infographic World, Inc.

11. IDEAS FOR CHANGE

“You must have the ability to solve problems. Most people can execute fairly well when told what to do, but very few people can valuably decide what needs to be done.”

- Brent Beshore | Owner/CEO, AdVentures

12. PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS

“Being able to work independently and solve problems is crucial to success at any startup. If you want to be promoted, come up with solutions you weren’t expected to deliver. Using the excuse “I couldn’t get it to work,” is not acceptable at a startup! Building problem solving skills and confidence is the fastest way to a promotion in a startup culture.”

- Lucas Sommer | Founder CEO, Audimated
