An experimental drug, Remdesvir, has proved effective against the new Coronavirus in a major study done by the National Institutes of Health, the US Government has announced.

White House health advisor and top US infectious diseases expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci has revealed that data collected from the Coronavirus drug trial testing with the antiviral drug Remdesivir showed ‘quite good news’ and has set a new standard of care for COVID-19 patients.

According to the study led by the US National Institute of Health, the drug shortens the time it takes for patients to recover by four days on average, and it is the first drug treatment to pass such a strict test against the virus.

Remdesivir, produced by Gilead Sciences was tested in 1,063 hospitalized Coronavirus patients around the world and according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the drug reduced the time it takes patients to recover by 31%, 11 days on average versus 15 days for those just given usual care.

Anambra state government says sixty-three markets in the State will re-open on Monday, 4th of May, 2020. Governor Willie Obiano announced this today, shortly after a closed-door meeting with market leaders in the state. He said that markets will open only after they must have participated in the training organized by the state government.

Governor Obiano said that each market must have a COVID-19 team that will have the responsibility of enforcing COVID-19 preventive codes and guidelines which includes the compulsory wearing of face masks, provision of running water, hand sanitizers, physical distancing, among others.

The Governor urged industrialists in the State to re-open but having the COVID-19 directives in mind. He stressed that the only condition for re-opening of the markets is to have the COVID-19 teams ready, saying that markets which are not ready, will not be allowed to open.

In staying healthy, one must learn how to release mental tension, anxiety, anger, stress, and grudge; shake it off, or simply walk away especially in this period of global pandemic with total lockdown.

The fact is we all have a certain degree of pain inside of us, although some persons are better at dealing with it than others. What most people never understand is that unbalanced mental health leads to depression, which is not always because of extraneous variables but arises from within. Sometimes we have feelings of impending doom, other times we may feel alone, but nothing makes us feel more isolated and terrified than anxiety “the fear of the unknown” causing a high level of mental stress in the present moment because we feel tensed, fearful, and sadness which can be overwhelming disarming our ability to cope and participate in our activities, enjoying leisure time, and maintaining relationships.

Mental illness is a mental health condition that gets in the way of relating to others, thinking, feeling and day-to-day activities. Although dozens of mental health illness exist but the most common is anxiety and major depressive disorder (MDD); the former is characterized by fear about current or future events; these feeling may cause physical symptoms, such as a fast heart rate and shakiness.

There are several anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, panic disorder etc. These disorders differ by what resulted in the symptoms and most times people often have more than one anxiety disorder. While the latter simply known as depression, is a mental disorder often accompanied by low self-esteem, loss of interest in normal enjoyable activities, low energy, and pain without a clear cause. Those affected may also occasionally have false beliefs, and see, or hear things that others cannot. Major depressive disorder usually affects a person’s personal life, work life, or education, as well as sleeping, eating habits and general health negatively. About 2–8% of adults who may have major depression often die by suicide.

What could have resulted into an explosion in Lagos State  was averted, yesterday, when a  pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, was discovered to have been tampered with by some unknown persons.

A  combined team of emergency responders was able to avert the disaster.

The Director General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the pipeline, supplying Premium Motor Spirit (fuel) along Aboru/Mosan Bus-stop, off Cacatin Area, Ipaja, was discovered to be criminally diverted at about 6am but as soon as this was noticed, emergency responders were deployed to the area.

He said their prompt arrival revealed that the leakage was from a major NNPC pipe which had been tampered  to continuously divert and siphon fuel.

The race to trace the contacts of a man who died of corona virus in Lagos on Friday began yesterday. His corona virus status was unknown because his friend who took him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on Thursday unconscious didn’t disclose it.

The 55-year old victim just returned from Holland.

He earlier performed a coronavirus test at Yaba, according to a statement by LUTH’s Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, which turned positive.

The statement also revealed that the victim was a diabetic hypertensive patient who had a transplant for chronic kidney disease and was on immuno-suppressant drugs.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, described as unfortunate the news of the first COVID-19 death in Lagos but the fourth in the country.

The other deaths were recorded in Edo (two) and Abuja (one).

As of yesterday, there were 209 confirmed cases in the country spread across 13 states and the FCT with 25 patients discharged. Lagos topped the  list with 109 cases. The breakdown:

FCT- 41, Osun- 20, Oyo- 9, Akwa Ibom- 5, Ogun- 4, Edo- 7, Kaduna- 4, Bauchi- 3, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 2, Rivers-1, Benue- 1, Ondo- 1

No new cases were announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) yesterday.

The developments on the Lagos death came on a day the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, met with the leadership at the National Assembly on an executive proposal to establish a N500 billion COVID-19 Crisis Intervention Fund.

The LUTH statement said its Department of Community Medicine had moved swiftly to trace, follow-up and assist gallant staff who managed the deceased patient.

It further implored all LUTH staff to continue observing strict standard protocols while handling all patients as medical personnel are especially at increased risk from such undisclosed exposure.

The latest United Kingdom coronavirus figures have been released by the government.

Officials says that as of 17:00 BST on Friday, 3 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 4,313 have died – an increase of 708 from the previous day.

As of 09:00 BST on Saturday a total of 183,190 people have been tested of whom 41,903 have tested positive.

As the news of the Corona Virus first presence in Nigeria spreads, Gist Vile has detailed the itinerary of the infected Italian who is a consultant to Lafarge Africa Plc during his short stay in Nigeria before going to his final destination which is Lafarge Africa Plc, cement factory in Ewekoro Ogun State, where he became ill and developed fever and was treated at the clinic located in Lafarge facility before he was rushed to Lagos on Wednesday 26th February 2020.

The infected Italian arrived in Nigeria on Monday, 24th of February 2020 at about 9:00 pm through Murtala Muhammed International Airport via a Turkish Airline flight.

Before arriving in Ogun State, he had made contact with three people, spent the night at an undisclosed hotel near the airport in Lagos and arrived on Tuesday 25th February 2020 morning in Ogun State. He stayed at a guest house and at about 4-5 pm on Wednesday, he developed body ache and fever. The staff clinic of Lafarge was very sensitive to the case.

They responded speedily and contacted Lagos, they had a high index of suspicion and once they contacted Lagos, the protocol kicked in and the individual was transferred to Lagos in a closed ambulance according to protocol. “He was transferred to the infectious disease centre in Yaba, Lagos where tests were conducted and a definite confirmation came out earlier this morning hence, the press release nationally and from Lagos.

Authorities here in Colombo, Sri Lanka said an international terror group likely supported an obscure local Islamist group in carrying out a series of bombings that killed at least 310 people on Easter Sunday, weeks after the government had received warnings from the U.S. and India about a possible attack.

Government officials of this island nation said some of the suicide bombers and others arrested were linked to an obscure radical Islamist group known as National Thowheeth Jamath, a group the government singled out to police for monitoring as a possible threat after the foreign security services issued their warning.

The sophistication of the Easter-morning attacks indicated to Sri Lankan and international terror experts that whoever carried them out likely had help from experienced international terrorists, perhaps even al Qaeda or Islamic State, Sri Lankan officials said.

Black box found among the wreckage of doomed Ethiopian Airlines plane as eyewitnesses describe the horror


As passengers and governments grow increasingly nervous about MAX 8 aircraft, the regulators have issued strict orders to Boeing.


The US Federal Aviation Administration has demanded Boeing make design changes to its 737 MAX aircraft by next month as doubt continues to set in over the safety of the best-selling aircraft used worldwide.


In a notice to the international community a day after the fatal crash of an Ethiopian Airlines MAX 8, the FAA deemed the US-made 737 MAX planes airworthy but outlined changes Boeing needed to deliver by April.



They included “flight control system enhancements” and changes to an automated protection system called the Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS.



The FAA also said Boeing would update training requirements and flight crew manuals to reflect those updates.



It had been reported Boeing had planned design changes after the fatal crash of a Lion Air 737 MAX 8 in October, but the FAA notice is the first public confirmation of this.



The notice from the FAA also noted external reports had drawn similarities between both crashes.

“However, this investigation has just begun and to date, we have not been provided data to draw any conclusions or take any actions,”

according to the Continued Airworthiness Notification to the International Community for Boeing 737 MAX 8 operators.


Airlines in China, Indonesia, Ethiopia, the Cayman Islands and Singapore have grounded MAX 8 jets in the wake of Sunday’s tragedy while passengers grow increasingly nervous about flying the planes.


Earlier, US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said there would be “immediate action” if regulators identified any safety issue with the 737 MAX planes.

“If the FAA identifies an issue that affects safety, the department will take immediate and appropriate action,” Ms Chao told reporters.

“I want people to be assured that we take these incidents, these accidents very seriously.”

Google Currency Indication is currently showing that one dollar is exchanged for N184, but this is just a glitch in its software.

Colossus Gists recall that the football world is still in mourning following missing flight saga involving Cardiff City signing, Emiliano Sala.

Mikel and the other Middlesbrough players were at risk, as the club had to call off their flight home from Newport County as the plane was grounded due to engine failure.

And Obi Mikel was among the Middlesbrough players.

The officials of the English Championship club called off a flight that would have taken the squad for their next league fixture.

Mikel and other members were forced to about-turn on the Cardiff Airport runway, following their 2-0 FA Cup defeat to League Two, Newport County.

They then re-boarded the team bus and returned to Middlesbrough by road, meaning the team did not return until 7am, with the players having to sleep on the way home.

President Muhammadu Buhari today received the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by President Comrade Danielson Bamidele Akpan and other Members of the Executive Committee of the Association at the State House, Abuja.

Reports reaching us has it that a sum of One hundred and fifty million naira (N150,000,000) was doled out to the leadership of NANS during this visit as it is believed that their job is to hold protests against ASUU and other striking units instead of holding the govt accountable.

Anyway, if you are still wondering why the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been quiet all these while, the NANS president promised President Buhari 20million vote from Nigerian students. He was quoted to have said ASUU is being hypocritical and that Buhari is a wonderful Man!
