The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-ife has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) h for all courses in the Faculties of Law, Dentistry, Basic Medical Sciences and Social Sciences

It was gathered that the NUC had in 2018 withdrawn the accreditation for law, dentistry and other programmes at the OAU.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, he said that the NUC, with the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian universities, had fully accredited all the programmes.

According to him, programmes being run by other Faculties were also accredited by the NUC while all programmes at the Postgraduate level were also fully accredited. With the latest accreditation of 42 undergraduate programmes, all the 107 programmes in the university are now accredited.

Thirty seven (37) out of the fourty-two (42) courses run in the University were granted Full Accreditation while five (5) others were given Interim Accreditation.

The statement quoted the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede to have praised NUC for giving in its best to ensure that all academic programmes being run by the universities in the country were of international standards.

He also appreciated what he called the institutional spirit of the institution’s Governing Council, led by Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi, the Senate as well as all the departments, faculties and alumni associations.

The vice-chancellor said that their commitment had assisted, in much greater measure, in ensuring all the necessary facilities are in place, which eventually culminated in the accreditation of all the courses, particularly those with initial outright denial or partial accreditation.

According to a new report by PWInsider, Michael Mansury, the Vice President of Global Television Production, departed WWE last week.

Mansury is said to have given his notice months ago that he would leave in May 2020 and concluded his responsibilities last week.

Mansury held the position of Vice President of Global Television Production since 2016. He was a big part of the Paul “Triple H” Levesque regime and considered to be the replacement for Kevin Dunn when he decides to step down. Mansury was hired in 2009 as a Production Assistant and gradually rose through the ranks of the company.

Mansury has been the director of many WWE PPV and television events in recent years. With his departure along with Kerwin Silfies, Kevin Dunn and Marty Miller will be directing WWE broadcasts.

Globacom head of public relations, Andrew Okeleke, lost his wife, Grace Okeleke in an accident involving a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle with registration number EPE 59 XR in Ikorodu, Lagos on Monday around 7:20pm.

A statement issued by the family on Thursday, confirmed that Mrs. Okeleke was crossing the road after her driver dropped her off around Agric Bus Stop, inward Ketu.

She died on the spot.

Police in Lagos have begun a manhunt for the BRT driver, Collins Nnodi, who fled after knocking her down.

Speaking on the incident, the Chief Security Officer, Primero Transport Services Limited, the franchise holder of the BRT buses, Cletus Okodolor, condoled with the victim’s family.

He also criticised the BRT driver for abandoning her at the scene of the accident and not informing his employers of the incident.

“We sympathise with the family and we are shocked at the action of the busman. The accident involved one of our buses, with number 344. The bus was coming from Ikorodu inwards Mile 12, and she was trying to cross to the other side of the road without actually looking properly; she entered the BRT corridor to cross and there was contact,” Mr Okodolor said.

Former Nigeria striker, Odion Ighalo, has been ranked second-richest African footballer aged 30 and below in the Premier League according to The Sunday Times.

The ranking by the newspaper placed Mohammed Salah of Egypt as the richest U-30 African player in the EPL.

Ighalo, who will be 31 in June, is in 15th position and is among the five Manchester players on the list and he was estimated to have £18m wealth while Salah has an estimated £19m net worth.

Qatar Airways has said it will give away 100,000 free tickets to the front-line healthcare professionals to commend them for their heroic work during the current COVID-19 crisis.

The airline, in a statement on Wednesday, said it had maintained 24/7 operations in recent months, including the provision of over 100 chartered flights.

The new coronavirus may never go away and populations around the world will have to learn to live with it, the World Health Organization warned Wednesday.

As some countries around the world begin gradually easing lockdown restrictions imposed in a bid to stop the novel coronavirus from spreading, the WHO said it may never be wiped out entirely.

The virus first emerged in Wuhan in China late last year and has since infected more than 4.2 million people and killed nearly 300,000 worldwide.

“We have a new virus entering the human population for the first time and therefore it is very hard to predict when we will prevail over it,” said Michael Ryan, the WHO’s emergencies director.

“This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away,” he told a virtual press conference in Geneva.

“HIV has not gone away — but we have come to terms with the virus.”

More than half of humanity has been put under some form of lockdown since the coronavirus crisis began.

But the WHO warned there was no way to guarantee that easing the restrictions would not trigger a second wave of infections.

Governor Willie Obiano has expressed dissatisfaction at the low level of compliance at Anambra Bridgehead boundary, Onitsha.

Some 190,000 people in Africa are likely to die from the corona virus and 44 million could get infected in the first year of the pandemic if containment measures fail, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

The warning comes as the continent has registered 53,200 cases and 2,027 deaths.

The United Nations agency said 3.6 million to 5.5 million people could be hospitalized due to the virus. From this figure, about 82,000 to 167,000 would be severe cases requiring oxygen, and 52,000 to 107,000 would be critical, needing breathing support.

This is a lower projection from the initial figures from the UN Economic Commission for Africa, which estimated that at least 300,000 people on the continent were likely to be killed by the virus and 29 million pushed into extreme poverty.

The WHO regional office for Africa said 83,000 to 190,000 people could die from Covid-19 and 29 million to 44 million get infected in the first year of the pandemic if containment fails.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has revealed the worst hit sector since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Nigeria.

Siriki during COVID-19 media update on Thursday, said the aviation sector is the most hit, adding that airlines have lost nearly N17 billion monthly since their operations were grounded.

“We are in very difficult moments like everyone else. All of this started because someone traveled and unfortunately came back home with it and the consequence is what we’ve been going through.

“We are the worst hit, than any other sector. Some N17 billion naira monthly is being lost by the airlines, thanks to COVID-19,”

An army barracks had four soldiers guarding a concrete slab in front of the barracks at all times. Different commanders came and went but the tradition remained; the soldiers changed shifts guarding the slab. After 80 years, a new commander was assigned to the barracks.

Amongst the things he did was to ask why things were done the way they were. When he asked why soldiers were guarding the slab, he was told: We’ve always done it this way. It’s our tradition. Our former commanders instructed us to do that.” The commander was bent on finding out the reason for this practice. He went to the archives to look for answers and came across a document that had the explanation. The document was very old.

It had instructions written by one of the retired commanders who had even passed away. The new commander learnt that more than 80 years ago, the barracks wanted to build a platform where events could be performed. When the concrete slab was laid, wild animals walked over it at night before the slab would dry. The soldiers would fix it the next morning but when evening came the same thing would happen. So the commander ordered that four soldiers should guard the concrete slab for three weeks to allow it to dry.The following week, the commander was transfered to handle another assignment elsewhere, and a new commander was brought in. The new commander found the routine and continued to enforce it without asking any questions. And since then, every other commander that came did the same. But remember that it was supposed to be for just 3 WEEKS! Wow!

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the WHO African Region has increased to over 44,000.

The WHO Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, gave the update on its official twitter account @WHOAFRO on Monday.

“There are over 44,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent – with more than 1,700 associated deaths,” it said.

The figures on the dashboard showed that South Africa, Algeria and Nigeria had the highest reported cases on the list.

It showed that South Africa had 6,783 cases and 131 deaths followed by

Algeria with 4,474 cases and 463 deaths, while Nigeria had 2,388 confirmed cases with 85 deaths.

According to the dashboard, Comoros, Mauritania, Seychelles are countries with the lowest confirmed cases in the region.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says all those who attended the funeral of late Abba Kyari, the former chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on April 18, have tested negative for COVID-19.

Lets recall that the Late Kyari died on April 17 as a result of COVID-19. There was an outcry from Nigerians after videos and pictures from the funeral showed that those present at the funeral, disregarded all the prevention guidelines issued by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), such as social distancing, to limit the spread of COVID-19.

All those who attended the funeral were asked to immediately isolate themselves while those that work in the presidency were asked to distance themselves from the presidential villa.

“14 more #COVID19 Lagos patients; 6 females and 8 males, all Nigerians were today discharged from our Isolation facilities at Yaba, Onikan, LUTH and Eti-Osa (Landmark) to reunite with the society.

“The patients; 7 from Onikan, 2 from IDH, Yaba, 4 from LUTH and 1 from the Eti-Osa (LandMark) Isolation Centres have fully recovered and tested negative twice consecutively to #COVID19.

“With this, the number of patients successfully managed and discharged in Lagos are now 261,” the government said.

Gigi, as she was familiarly called, would have been about to finish the eighth grade at Harbor Day School, after which she’d spend the summer shooting hoops and gossiping with her girlfriends as they got ready for their first year of high school—where she would have crushed it playing for her school team, while still being coached by her legendary athlete of a dad, Kobe Bryant, at his Mamba Sports Academy. Even with physical distancing orders in place, we know Kobe would’ve figured out how to keep his daughter’s ball-handling skills sharp with home workouts.

Instead, Kobe and Gianna are gone, having died along with seven others, including two of her young teammates, in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 when they were on their way to a routine Sunday game.

Barcelona and Argentina football superstar Lionel Messi said that his son Thiago talks about six other players, one of whom is his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi told Mundo Deportivo that the other players are Paris St Germain duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar and his own Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Arturo Vidal.

“He talks a lot about Luis [Suarez], with whom we have the best relationship, about [Antoine] Griezmann and Arturo [Vidal] since the first day because of his hair and all that,” said Messi.

“Also about people from outside, [Kylian] Mbappe, Cristiano [Ronaldo], Neymar. Yeah, Thiago knows them all, he asks questions and likes it a lot.”

Messi said that Thiago and Mateo are taking an active interest in football.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan Thursday ordered civil servants on Grade Level 14 and above to resume partial work from Monday, May 4, 2020, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.

In a circular issued in Abuja, the Head of Service said workers on essential services are expected to be working in line with government’s guidelines.

She said offices are to open three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and close at 2:00 pm.

The circular reads:

“Further to Mr. President’s broadcast on a phased and gradual easing of the lockdown measures occasioned by COVID-19, officers on GL. 14 and above and those on essential services are hereby directed to resume work with effect from Monday 4th May, 2020 in the first instance.

“Offices are to open three times a week • Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and close at 2.00pm on each day.
