Lol. Typical Nigerian with warped sense of reasoning and poverty induced mental slavery.
Contrary to that misinformed minister's claim. Nigeria is not the only country where education is free. Germany. Sweden. Finland to mention but a few offer free education to their citizens up to the post graduate level.

America is not the only the developed nation out there. And even then you can't compare the quality of education at an American University to the piss poor, overly cramped, one microscope to 50 students campuses we have in Nigeria.

And no, the child of a Janitor is not cursed to follow in his father's footsteps because unlike you bastards in this country who subjugate uneducated workers, Janitors in America probably earn more than your father and his neutered kin have ever made in their lives. I'm not even kidding https://www.indeed.com/career/janitor/salaries

Stop being a child of hate and mediocrity. Stop being a fool who dances to the whimsical tunes of crass politicians. Stop being a daft, easily manipulated bastard.

It is better you think or read twice before saying anything. "Given all the choice hostels"... Are you sure you ever schooled in the country? Can we have an idea of your "choice" hostels? Which system are you talking about here? The same system that ill-treat the said students with lack of basic amenities? Or which system?

Your own case is entirely different
There is a reason I quoted choice.

It's not the best but they are given preference.

Cost of education has nothing to do with wages.

Wages are a function of how much you value their work and clearly health workers in Nigeria are not valued so they leave.

This simple concept is what you can't understand.

How will this measure solve the doctor shortage?

You are just letting emotions overtake whatever small sense you have.
Err,it keeps you in the country longer.

Who knows after 9 years you just might not want to leave.

Because there is debt in the market US you want to replicate it?

What is the salary of an average doctor in the US compared to Nigeria, then we will talk properly.

Until then you're just talking emotional nonsense.
Idiot.

I've told you.

We don't have to pay the same wages especially because the education is far cheaper.

If it was terrible, nobody would employ them.

Nobody says you can't go abroad after.

But since your Education was subsidised, you must serve a certain number of years before you can.

Yet you dey vex.

Do you know how much they are paid during residency? It can cover such costs. Nigerians also spend money to get there as well....it’s not like USMLE, PLAB or even MCCQE1 is free or something...some of these exams that the students abroad don’t write (apart from USMLE) Just so you know, a Nigerian planning to relocate to Cananda will spend over 900k to write the MCCQE 2...and it’s not like when they write these exams, it is guaranteed they’ll pass at once o.
Their choice.

They want to leave.

Or should government pay for that too?

Sharap you idiot.

The average medical school debt in USA is 215,000 dollars but idiots like yourself always believe you must insult the country first before using your brains.

At the height of Coronavirus, despite the so-called inefficiencies and substandard, UK sent a plane down to Nigeria to pick doctors who enjoyed highly subsidised education.

Idiots like yourself can't see that it is wrong and must be addressed.

Yes, they leave because they wish to earn more and live better lives... I never disagreed with Ngige!

So, my question persists??! Why can't all political appointees be compelled in the same vein to strictly use all medical facilities in the nation and be banned from traveling to access health care??!... If our well trained doctors must remain here for a number of years to give back, why can't politicians and political office holders be compelled to ensure they and their families are treated solely by these doctors within the hospitals here??!

These are the issues! You can't separate them!!!
Because they can and because you allow it.

Nigerian medical students also have the opportunity to take loans. In Niger Delta University, Amassoma, students pay as much as N200,000. They can take a loan and when they start working the government takes it back in bits from their salary. I know, for some people, N200,000 is small money compared to the big big school fees people pay overseas but it is commensurate to what you get - bad classrooms, 8 to 9+ years in school e.t.c Somebody will enter school at 18 and graduate at 31...our mates abroad don’t experience such.
What are you talking about?

So, why do the same government fail to strictly use the health care facilities within the nation starting from Mr. President??!

Why should Nigerian leaders earn fat off the country and travel abroad for health checks and treatments??!...
Because they can afford it and you also let them.

Wow! So, what is your point? Are you saying Nigeria is better?

You honestly why some Nigerians are like this? Someone who sat down in his stupid cubicle and be writing epistle of RUBBISH.

How many children of a janitor do you see that are out of school in a sne clime like the US?

Yes, they collect loan for schooling and that is a very good way to ease the parents but that doesn't mean they can't afford it. It all depends where the child wants to school.

Yes, there are heless people globally but in most cases in a sane clime, it is hardly poverty. It might be drug abuse, illegal immigration and the rest.

Comparing a saner clime education system to this country makes you sound somehow.
You haven't said anything.

The average medical school debt in the US is 215, 000 dollars.

A Nigerian who was trained in Nigeria, giving all the "choice" hostels, giving higher stipends at youth service, would be the first to be insulting the entire system.

You are majoring on minor and mundane things, leaving out the main issues...

What stops the leaders from stepping up and upgrading the nation's health care sector to the level abroad??! Why pay political appointees 10 times more than senior health workers??! Did our senators and ministers pay far more while schooling in Nigeria??!
Is it not more sensible and leadership worthy to address the root cause of such migration of skills rather than looking for excuses to justify your poor leadership!

Mind you, I don't disagree wholly with Ngige's point, but it is moot compared to the pressing issue of poor allocation and investments in this nation's health and education sectors...

I would expect a learned person to be smart enough to dissect issues beyond party affiliations and ethnicity!!! This is why Nigeria remains behind globally!
Is that why the doctors leave?

Say the truth.

They leave because they can earn more.

I am resisting the urge to insult you right now but let me just say this.

Serving your fatherland isn't slavery, pay doctors and they won't leave, it is that simple.

If all the doctors leave who do you think will suffer, us or them?

These foolish politicians run abroad whenever they get simple ear ache while poverty stricken supporters on nairaland will support them when they don't even have a primary health care center in their local government.

Stop thinking like a primary school child.

You just wrote a wall of nonsense.

Will you work for 6 months without salary?

Nobody says you can't go abroad.

All they've said is, since they are sponsoring your education, you must serve for a number of year before you leave.
