Gabaleve:There was a post concerning this issue yesterday, now the truth is gradually coming out. Bayelsan be vigilant. Stand and protect your votes. |
NOTWITHSTANDING its resolve to conduct a credible election in Bayelsa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not have the powers to stop suspected hired and fake voters as long as they present valid permanent voter cards (PVCs). The commission added that it was in the process of distributing sensitive materials to all local councils of the state. The commission spoke in response to allegations of the presence of fake voters in the state, who were said to have been brought by politicians to distort the outcome of the governorship election in the state. INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Timidi Wariowei, told The Guardian that the body was incompetent to intercept or prevent persons who succeeded in the updated registration recently undertaken in the state from casting their votes. He, however, stressed that it was the duty of security agents and residents to fish out manipulators and ensure they were prevented from circumventing the electoral process. “There is nothing we can do if someone comes to the polling booth with a valid PVC, even if we have reservations. If they have successfully registered for the exercise before, we cannot prevent them from voting. “However, the onus falls on the people of the community and the security agents to fish them out and do the needful. It is the residents who can identify themselves and they are the ones who would be able to point fingers at infiltrators because they know themselves,” he stated. culled from Guardian |

IPOB blames APC Still wallowing in the confusion that followed the killing of nine of its members, Wednesday, in Onitsha, the IPOB, also yesterday alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was behind the crisis that led to shooting to death of nine people and injuring of over 18 people that sustained various degrees of injuries at the Niger Bridge Head Onitsha and other parts of Onitsha and its environs. Spokesman of IPOB in Anambra State, Mr. Emma Powerful disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Onitsha, saying that it was a calculated plan by the APC government in the country which became unsettled with their peaceful and non- violent protests in South East, and had been looking for a way to provoke violence in their protests to justify the continued detention and incarceration of their leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. culled from Vanguard |

Nigerian authorities have reduced the $5.2 billion fine imposed on MTN Group Ltd. in October by $1.8 billion, the company said Thursday. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) informed MTN on Nov. 2 that it had reduced the fine to $3.4 billion, payable by Dec. 31. In October, the NCC fined MTN’s Nigerian unit roughly a quarter of the country’s federal budget for allegedly missing a deadline to deactivate 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards, under regulations meant to combat terrorism. MTN, which is Africa’s largest telecommunications company with 233 million subscribers in 22 countries, said it is carefully considering the NCC’s reply, but added that Executive Chairman Phuthuma Nhleko “will immediately and urgently re-engage with the Nigerian authorities before responding formally,” to ensure the best-possible outcome for the company. MTN advised shareholders to continue to exercise caution when dealing in the company’s securities. culled from The sun Newspaper |
Eduardo Cunha ,President of Brazil’s Lower House, on Thursday said that the parliament was set to commence impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff. Cunha said Rosseff was suspected of falsification of state accounts, among other crimes. Reacting to the development, Rousseff denied any wrongdoing and said she was indignant at the accusation. If a special committee that includes representatives of all parties accepts the impeachment, it will go to a vote of the full lower house. The impeachment process needs a two-third majority in the lower house followed by the same majority in the upper house to remove the president from office culled from Vanguard |
The National Association of Stevedoring Companies (NASC) on Thursday kicked against the decision by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to lay off 5,000 tally clerks and onboard security men. The President of the association, Mr Bolaji Sunmola, gave the indication in an interview with newsmen in Lagos. Sunmola said the matter would be taken to the Federal Ministry of Transport for resolution, adding that the NPA was ready to throw thousands of workers into the labour market alongside their employers. NPA had indicated at a stakeholders’ meeting on Nov. 10 in Lagos that it would disengage tally clerks and onboard security men by Dec. 15. Culled from Vanguard |
